MummyLJ (695.8 days ago) Wow nmck! I hope my daughter gets a teacher like you! Mommyof3... You sound like you`re on the right track- my 6 year old is always asking complicated questions (they get worse as she gets older lol) and it`s soooo hard to answer impartially and not force my views on her, but allow her to decide what makes sense (usually pertaining to veganism or religion- no politics yet thank goodness) I would think as long as we aren`t brainwashing them, we`re doing ok ;)
nmck (695.9 days ago) Sounds like you are doing a good job answering the questions. I am a 5th grade teacher and I get asked questions by my students all the time. I don't ever put my political thoughts into the answer, because that is wrong. I try to frame my answers in perspective of the constitution and ask students what they think. I also encourage them to ask their parents what they think about the issues. I often have them look things up, but encourage them to do so from multiple sources. One lesson we do in 5th grade reading is read some political articles from different kid magazines (like Time For Kids) and tear them apart for fact and opinion to see what spin each magazine puts on it. Then encourage the kids to make up their own minds on the issue instead of letting the reporters writing the stories sway them.
MommyOf3But4ToBe (696 days ago) Please let me start off by saying im not trying to start a poll where everyone says that libs or conservs are better than the other, please...
OK, so my daughter who is 11 is ALWAYS asking me odd and weird questions, some that make me think myself... Well lately she has been asking me a lot about politics. I try to give her the best answer possible, and if i dont know it we look it up. Some things i know that she will not fully understand so i just tell her that some things are like math. Some parts of math she will learn as she gets older, she did not always know what 2+2 was and until she was old enough to understand it she was not taught. Just wanting to know if how i am answering her questions are ok... Thank you...
