nmck (1170.8 days ago) Here you can contact Early Intervention services and have him evaluated for speech concerns. Call your ped and get the contact info for Early Intervention in your area.
LJM (1170.8 days ago) I would take him to see a speech therapist. When I was young I had problems pronouncing certain sounds like words beginning with `th` and `thr`. I was teased about it. Kids are cruel and if you dont want him to be teased at school about it then I would deal with it now.
canadababy (1170.8 days ago) Talk to his ped about speech therapy now. I don`t know what it`s like for you where you are, but where I am speech therapy is free before kindergarten, after that time you need to go through the school therapy program. Before kindergarten you go to private appointments, therapists have more time because it`s more one on one. Once you`re in the school system it`s slower. My friend is going through a speech issue with her almost-4 yr old and this is how she`s explained everything to me.....So, talk to his ped now and see what can/should be done at this time and if there is any benefit to starting something before kindergarten.
okynot (1170.9 days ago) I have 5 boys and they have all had speech problems of various degrees. A few of them have had speech therapy. I was told that They will grow out of it eventually and that the speech therapy just helps them to do it faster. The thing that they were most concerned with was the child having behavioral issues due to the frustration of not being understood. don`t worry about it! Look into the Head Start program through your school district, they offer evaluations for free no matter your income. Two of my sons were able to go to preschool for free with daily speech therapy through one of their programs.
RobinG (1170.9 days ago) At 4 it is very common but if it continues into school age he can get some speech therapy :) Mention it at kindergarten evals if it is still there so they watch for it :)
Lou-Li-Ro (1170.9 days ago) I wouldn`t worry about it at all!!! He is so young. And it`s probably really cute!!
numberj (1171 days ago) Go to your Doctor for advice. He may grow out of it, but may need a bit of help through a therapist...I would not involve a teacher, I would go to your GP.
heathert (1171 days ago) Here we have a pre school through the school district and they will test pre school age kids and have speech, PT, OT, and evaluate the child to see if they need services. They have a class also for hearing impaired that is great. SO maybe see if they offer something like this or you could ask your physician for his opinion.
phooey (1171 days ago) Don`t worry about it yet. If he still has it by kinder ask his teacher to refer him to the speech therapist, just for your peace of mind. But unless it`s really bad, they`ll let it resolve with time because it usually does. If he still has it by 2nd or 3rd then I`d be concerned. I`m a teacher btw.
