andriette and christians mummy liz`s poll Show results | Hide results

Pregnancy-poll poll Blah me again haha i know i know.Anyway,as im the avant googler i googled aterax(mild tranquilizer and anti hestamine) for it dosage and directions and came up do not use in pregnancy,so i googled some more and they say they`ve adminestered it to pregnant rats at a very hi dosage and produced fetal abnormalities.I have anxiety and now a new found lung inflamation,so my gp prescribed it for me for the lungs and my ob and doc said its safe for use for anxiety in pregnancy, they both prescribed me this and ive googled a woman that was prescribed it for PUPPS(in sa) but she was further along in her pregnancy.Ive also seein they say its contra indicated in early pregnancy, how do i classify whats early for them?Like under 12 weeks?Im now a lil shaky to take it but then again why would both ob and gp prescribe something thats so dangerous if it is?also this was american websites and im in south africa, and these docs are very carefull here, should i just drink it or what?My lungs draw close thats why he gave it to me.Arghhh help plz haha

i dont think i would take a class x drug during my first trimester. you can safely take a different anti-histamine and try relaxation excercises to help with your anxiety. prenatal yoga is great.

Trust me, I know about less than perfect healthcare, I`m currently living in Mexico haha. There`s been a few times now where the pediatricians down here have prescribed my youngest with a medicine that I researched, didn`t like, didn`t give, so I went to another ped who prescribed me with something I knew was safe and was comfortable giving my daughter. It`s very hard for me, an American, to live down here where medicines have different names, language barriers with doctors, and not having my children`s regular pediatrician who`s seen them since they were like a week old. I know what it`s like not to trust. I`m just saying have a voice for yourself! Tell them I don`t want to take this and this is why. It`s not worth the stress and worries when there`s other medicines out there that are safe that you could be taking.

And so he is great, better than the previous one,its not only him that prescribed it to me though, was the gp to,for use as an anti hestamine.i dunno maybe the research on google is out dated.I will be seeing another doc for my daughther ill just ask him and if he also says safe well then its safe and google sucks balls.Im sorry if i sounded rude in anyway,i do know it seems as if i distrust ppl, just plz remember the healthcare here isnt nearly the same as in the uk or us.But ill phone my gp`s nurse tommorow and just make triple triple sure with her, with the south african pages ive googled comes up with alot of woman taking aterax, but mostly after 12 weeks.the pages i researched was american websites not sa pages,so maybe its diffrent here i dont know.

If I were given a medication that I researched and didn`t deem safe to take during my pregnancy 1. I wouldn`t take it and 2. I`d call my OB, ask them why they prescribed it to me because of what I read about it, and then I`d go find a new OB if they didn`t pay attention to my concerns. You are the one who stated in one of your previous polls that your OB is great.

I dis trust doctors coz ive been put through hell ok,offcourse that sounded very rude but anyway im use to that.I did think this is a place that i can like ask advice but clearly its not.Like i said i googled the package insert coz i dont have it anymore and how would u feel if u saw that,i bet not very confident in using it.Its not like doctors know everything, they can also be wrong.Me knowing that and still taking it and something happens makes me a bad mom.I will ask and ask and ask over and over again if it helps me understand better.yes actualy i did see the class, its a schedule 5 med and is classiefied as a class x.But anyway ill ask ppl that wanna help.Thanx

I`m not trying to be rude but why do you second guess everything your doctors say/do? I doubt your OB would prescribe you something that would cause abnormalities in your baby because of the risk of him/her losing their job/medical license, not to mention sued for malpractice. Did you even see what class the drug Aterax is in? If you don`t feel safe taking it, then don`t take it. Ask for something different instead of wondering and asking people who don`t know any better if you should take it or not.
