Baby-poll poll What do you think about this whole `babywearing`? I was considering trying the Moby Wrap after reading an article about `baby wearing` but I feel like this could create a bad habit. I was only considering the Moby wrap at first since I already have 15 month old and thought it could make it easier on me as well as for breastfeeding. What do you think?

I'm all for "babywearing" and love the Moby wrap
I'm all for "babywearing" but I use a different wrap
Not into "babywearing" or never heard of it
I'll comment!

Point well taken Samantha and babydecember. I will def try to breastfeed in one. I do agree the all the time wearing and napping is a bit excessive. Besides I have another child who will need attention and will need to be held. I def want a moby and will now consider adding the ergo.. They both got great reviews...

oh wow- 2 and still using it? My son is 15 months and he`s just too heavy. What I meant about all the time was that this article by the popular doctor who coined the term babywearing suggest that we do it not only when it`s convenient but rather the ooposite. As oppose to leaving your baby in the cradle or basinett and only picking them up when they cry. Supposedly babies who are worn have an advantage as far as intellect and social behaviors and yada yada..lol. Found it interested but I thought of the bad habit as, `well, what happens when they are so use to it that they cry when you put them down? I will def only use it when convenient as I did with my son but was curious if anyone else had read about this. Here i found the site- http://www.askdrsears.com/html/5/t051100.asp

I`m one of the people that has raved to Lou-Li about the Ergo. Love the Ergo! :-) I also have a Moby wrap that I like, though I couldn`t ever nurse in it. I could easily nurse in an Ergo. Wearing a baby is simple and convenient. What bad habit would be created, that you are worried about? Yes, you put the child in a carrier when it is convenient for you and the child. (it certainly needn`t be `ALL the time`). For some, that may be more than others. Some may find it easy to do it very often at home, while cooking, cleaning, whatever. For others it may just be for going out on a walk, or to the store. Whenever you like, whenever it`s easiest to have your hands free and the baby close by. My daughter just turned two, and I still use a carrier way more than a stroller. :-)

I have both the moby and the ergo and I LOVE both equally! I never breastfed with the moby though so can`t help you there sorry. IMO I got the hang of the the moby in less than 10 minutes and never had any problems with it at all. I would never put my NB in the ergo though. I used my moby till my DD was 6 months then after that the Ergo.

sorry, I meant `Ergo carrier`, it`s not a wrap, it`s a carrier, and it looks more up my alley... you clip it on and it has straps that go over your shoulders, the weight is distributed evenly, people have raved about it to me, and i must say it does look good, it is expensive though, but the kind of thing that`ll last. good quality. google them and look at the website. www.ergobabycarrier.com

So I`m guessing the ergo wrap is similar but more expensive? What about breatfeeding in a wrap.. Is it practical? And, do you wear the baby ALL the time like `babywearing` suggests or only when it`s convenient?

they can be a little tricky, ialmost gave up on it cus i couldnt figure the stupid thing out but then i ran into a mom that was `wearing her baby` and she gave me some tips and i`ve loved my moby wrap ever since!!! just keep trying... it`s like learning to ride a bike... haha and trust me it does make things easier because i have a 22 month old

I`m definitely getting a baby-carrier for this baby, but I - personally - would never recommend the moby wrap. From my own personal point of view, it was a waste of money. It`s just a really, reeeeally, reeeeeeeeeally long piece of material, which you have to learn to wrap around yourself in intricate difficult ways, and was frankly a pain in the arse. I never used it. I am a no-nonsense type, couldn`t be doing with faffing around with yards and yards of material every time I wanted to put the twins on!!! Very impractical, to my mind, though I am sure people who are better at fiddly things like that find it great, they must do, since moby wraps seem to sell well! I just hated it. I think I will go with something like the ergo wrap.. whenI have money (!)

  1. Silly poll, just checking the odds.. for parents of 3+kids, did you have:
  2. Career conundrum... Opinions valued (particularly from teachers - but I would value advice from anyone). Details inside.
  3. At what age do you think it`s appropriate to drop your child off at a sporting training (not a school sport, a sports club such as soccer, footy, tennis, netball club etc), and come at the end to pick them up?

  6. Bookworms - is anyone reading the new Khaled Hosseini book `And the Mountains Echoed`? I pre-ordered it on kindle which should have arrived today (I haven`t checked yet) but was wondering if anyone would be interested in a group read?
  7. HELP - my 3 year old daughter is developing a phobia to fluff! I feel responsible, I have a ridiculous phobia of bees and wasps - to the point it hinders my ability to enjoy playing out in the garden during the summer, it`s detrimental. My kids have picked up on this and are sh*t scared of bees and wasps, but with my daughter it was soon spiders, then ants and now, tiny black bits of fluff - which she finds all over; on her pillow etc. It`s genuine terror in her face as she screams she can see them moving and they`re `going to get her` or `bite her`. What do I do? She`s old enough to be reasoned with that they don`t move and we pick most of them off before bedtime, but she wakes in the night and starts crying that `The Fluff`s coming...!!` How can I help her? Do you think this is just a phase or do you think it`s worth seeking some sort of external, professional help to nip this in the bud? I HATE the thought of passing on my phobias and anxieties to my children - it`s no way to live to be a constant worrier about things beyond your control and I;ve suffered with anxiety and panick attacks for nearing 6 years now and can`t ever remember just feeling `normal` and `well` - I can`t remember my life before my first panick attack. This is NOT what I want for my children...
  8. On Facebook I saw one of those like pictures, a mom who sent her child to school for days wearing out of style `ugly` clothes because she was bullying another girl about her clothes. Mom`s yourselves, what do you think of this type of punishment?
  9. Can anyone relate? My 4 year old is making all sorts of amazing connections which is great that he`s thinking about the world, but some of his thoughts are quite deep. He`s a natural born worrier (gets that from me!) and I try to protect him from as much as I can but there`s things that can`t be avoided. Ie, ever since Easter, he`s been plagued with fear about getting holes in him like Jesus (he learnt it at Kindy). Well just this evening he came out with `Why do you and Margo (Grandma) have holes in your ears like Jesus? Did you get your ears nailed to a cross?` He`s also obsessed with the fear of death.
