i loved the name Alyssa but i knew it was pretty common but we figured who cares and used it anyway:) pick the name u love and who cares where its ranked:)

That is DEF not up on the list as very popular and I dont know a single child with it which means it isnt that popular all over. I wouldnt ever not choose name I love because of that. 437 is pretty far down ~ only ones that I would avoid if I really wanted unique were the top 20.

Was was suprised that our choice was like 160 or something like that! I never heard of anyone with the name, and i was bummed. but we`re still keeping it bc where we live, we havent heard of anyone with the name. If I really liked it but had a cousin or something with the name, thats where i would draw the line and go back to the name books!

ive never looked to see if a name is `too popular` me and hubby go through names that we like and usually one jumps out at us. my kids names are Thomas, Taylah, Dylan and Charlie. we have a girl name picked for this baby but still need to work out a boys name. we look at lists but dont worry about where abouts they are if it is a name we love.

Yes, Ava. We were set on it. Googled the name and it was 5th last year on the top 100 names used in the US :( very pretty name just not for us

473 is not popular at all, i would say a name in the top 100 is popular. anything lower is fair game you definately wont be running into someone with that name on a regular basis.

I met a woman @ work and she named her son Zane. OMG I love that name. I never heard of it till I met her, So its not that popular. I would kept it. its a great name. =)

I found this site where you type in the name you like and it gives you a chart of about 5 years of popularity ranking. Keep scrolling down and you get more info. What`s funny is my son`s name jumped from somewhere in the 5,600s to 4,100s from 2007to 2010 and I was DISSAPPOINTED. 437 really is not that popular. I wouldn`t change a name I really loved unless it was at least in the top 100 and if I really loved it a lot I would even go higher in the list than that.

Isn`t it weird how tv and movies affect what names were popular for a certain year? Just looked them up.. Neveah just made the list and that name was featured in the TV series Teen Mom, and Micah made the list and that was in the movie `Paranormal Activity` last year...I thought about naming my child Micah myself if it was a boy, because I liked it from the movie! I had a girl though. :P Hazel

Social Security doesn`t release their list of names until May. That is the list I usually go by. This is only the top 1000 names for the UsA, i dont know how other countries pick their top sorry! Various naming websites have come out with 2010 lists though.

Please, WHERE did you find the top 1000 list for 2010?! I`ve been looking for it, but only found the top 100. I`d be really grateful, we`re working on names and are stuck on a boy`s name. I`m sorry it`s too popular for you. If it were me I`d use it anyhow if I LOVED it, but that`s just me. Personally I love the name Caine, which sounds very similar, but isn`t very popular. Kane is, but not Caine (also, it`s a different meaning than the biblical Cain when using an e at the end). Good luck, whatever you decide!
