ady,may,and1ontheway (819.5 days ago) Is that not how all birth control works, I mean, unless your form stops ovulation all together (which the mirena actually does for me)? Are you implying that we walk around with no contraceptive and just pop out babies left and right, even if there is no means of supporting the child? And you think taxes are high with everybody getting state help now...let`s see how much taxes hike after everybody stops using BC because the chance that a sperm might meet an egg every once in a while. To somebody that has a mirena, and who has very unfortunately lost 4 babies, I find it offensive that you would try to implant the idea in the mommies on here that we are intentionally aborting children every month. Quite stupid actually. And yes, my doctor did explain how it works. It thins the lining of your uterus, along with many other things that have already been posted, that prevent an egg from implanting or even being released. EditDelete
julz (819.6 days ago) I don`t see how this can be considered and abortive technique, I don`t have an IUD, but I was on the Depo shot which does the same thing, it thicks cervical mucus so that sperm can`t get to the egg,but if the sperm does make it, prevents the fertilized egg from implanting into the uterus. Like kevinsmilfx2 says, you are not pregnant until the egg and sperm(fertilized egg) implant into the uterus. EditDelete
EandTsmum (819.7 days ago) As a Christian, I follow the Christian belief that life begins at fertilization, not implantation. Therefore for me personally, it would be the equivalent of aborting a life. I don`t care what anyone else does and don`t judge them for it. It`s just not for me. EditDelete
carolinagirls (819.8 days ago) Doesn`t bother me one bit. And no my doc didn`t explain that! EditDelete
kidzrblessingz (819.8 days ago) If someone doesnt like a poll or if u don`t like to have a debate about
Something then simply don`t vote or comment on it,skip it a go to the next poll EditDelete
MiniOface (819.9 days ago) Wow, I have an IUD and am pretty offended by this. To imply that I am having `monthly abortions` is disgusting. EditDelete
a.love::k.alexander (820 days ago) for me if the egg doesn`t implant its not an already-conceived child. If someone is meant to be in this world he/she will be born no matter what. EditDelete
Baby Bliss (820 days ago) IUD and abortive nature are two words that should not be put together. How ridiculous..and matter of fact my baby boy whom is 4 months old is here because I was on the IUD..how is that for abortion??? EditDelete
Holly28 (820 days ago) This poll just seems to want to try to stir the pot. How immature. EditDelete
m0m0f3 (820 days ago) also i wouldnt quite use the words `conceived child`.. EditDelete
hannahe (820 days ago) i was gonna say the same as girl from ab... same with the morning after pill, they prevent the fertilized egg from being able to implant and even turn into anything- no heart, no brain,no nerves, and that is IF indeed the egg gets fertilized. its a preventative measure in my opinion, i do not support abortion at all but i think iud`s especially mirena (which contains birth control hormones) are perfectly acceptable EditDelete
canadababy (820 days ago) That frickin argument can be said about having a period every month and releasing/losing an egg every month. Oh my god, that egg could have been a human being, I`m a horrible person for not allowing myself to become pregnant, now I`ve basically thrown that egg/potential person in the garbage. I`m on Mirena AND LOVE IT! And no, actually my OB didn`t explain how it worked but he also didn`t explain to me how the BC pill worked last year when he prescribed it for me. EditDelete
m0m0f3 (820 days ago) i copy and pasted that.. i am currently on mirena and im sorry it is far from me walking into a clinic and getting an abortion.. and i feel its a little ignorant to imply that. its ALL birth control. ( and i am even 100% against abortions!) EditDelete
RNMom2010 (820 days ago) My Dr was very informative on the action of the IUD. I can see how many see it as an `abortion` as it depends on when you define the beginning of life. The cells have met,and have begun dividing, but they do not implant into the uterine wall to allow for the nutrients to continue the growth and resulting in a pregnancy. I opted to not have an IUD after knowing this, as it just personally bothers me that my husband and my genetics have been combined, only to be wasted. EditDelete
m0m0f3 (820 days ago) How does Mirena work?
Mirena slowly releases very small amounts of the hormone levonorgestrel directly into your uterus.
There is no single explanation for how Mirena works. Mirena may:
Thicken cervical mucus to prevent sperm from entering your uterus
Inhibit sperm from reaching or fertilizing your egg
Make the lining of your uterus thin
Mirena may stop the release of your egg from your ovary, but this is not the way it works in most cases. Most likely the above actions work together to prevent pregnancy. Like other forms of birth control, Mirena is not 100% effective.

heavenleigh (820 days ago) i dont have any but from my understanding it creates a slight inflamation so that the egg never gets fertilized by the sperm. so its nothing like an abortion. EditDelete
kevinsmilfx2 (820 days ago) I wish there was a `like` button for the comment below. If I wanted to get pregnant, I would not have chosen an intrauterine device. That being said, I think this poll may be over-emphasizing and over-sensitizing with the term `abort`, as the definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy. You are not termed `pregnant` until the egg and sperm implant in the uterus. So nothing is aborted. EditDelete
Erin-Katherine (820 days ago) I was never told that I get mine at the end of June but I don`t really see an issue with what you say because without implanting it cannot grow therefor it is never a live thing in my eyes so I don`t really see that as an issue I guess EditDelete
EandTsmum (820 days ago) My doctor suggested the mirena but no, she didn`t explain exactly how they work. I didn`t ask either, as I already know how IUDs work and that is why I will never get one. For me, it would be no different to having an abortion. To me, that`s not birth control. You wouldn`t knowingly continue to get pregnant month after month, and have an abortion every time, so why use birth control that could potentially do the same? EditDelete
