mammawendy (527.2 days ago) I`m with the rest of the ladies on this one. As long as the guns are kept locked up and the children taught gun safety at an early age, I think having guns in the house is safe. We have a large gun safe that requires a pin code to access. Also we have a touch pad safe tha requires a digital scan of your fingerprint to open. I love it. It can be accessed quickly if necessary but my son can press the scanner till the cows come home and never get it open.
stylist.mommy(team blue) (546.9 days ago) We have a large gun safe that is taller than me, we keep it locked and it is physically impossible for a child to open, you have to have the code, a key and be able to twist the big wheel to open the safe. We also teach our kids gun safety from a very early age. Also, our children know they are NOT to go in our room because that is where the gun safe is and we don`t even like them being in the same room as locked up guns
luvbugs (546.9 days ago) We have all of ours in a safe..but before we bought the safe we kept them in their cases with a trigger lock-the locks are super cheap, and most police departments will give them to you for free.
allynne7 (Jaime) (547.1 days ago) We don`t own any weapons but my FIL does as he`s an avid hunter ((tears!)) but the guns are kept in a locked gun cabinet that is kept in a locked room and the bullets/arrows/ect. are kept in a safe (also in a locked room) on the other side of the house.
T-mobile (Pink) (547.1 days ago) We have a big safe that only the adults have the combo to. It is never left open and all guns are stored in the safe. We also teach the kids about gun safety from a early age.
tto (547.1 days ago) We have many in our house but of course they are locked up. Always keep the action open or get a gun lock- but I prefer to keep the action open so you don`t have to worry about the key. We teach to never point a gun at a person (except toys), always treat a gun like it is loaded, and if you are holding a gun use universal cover (which is keeping your finger straight onto the gun off the trigger, instead of having the finger on the trigger). I used to be scared of guns, but with proper care and education there really is no danger. Keeping the ammo separate is a smart thing to do. I don`t agree with canadababy about not teaching them about guns because ignorance can kill. They need to know the right and wrong things to do at an early age. You never know when they will go to a neighbor`s house and find a gun.

california-mom (547.1 days ago) My husbands a Marine and we have guns locked away separate and apart from ammo (they arent used for protection, theyre used for hunting/shooting for sport etc). The rules are almost exactly what babydecember said! Also, only point (loaded or unloaded) at what you intend to shoot.
BabySchofield (547.2 days ago) We don`t have a gun in our house but the kids have both shot guns at their grandfathers house and we have taught them gun safety, how they can get hurt or killed and stuff like that and they are not to be touched unless they are shooting with daddy or pop pop, (we`re a hunting family) my FIL keeps all the guns in the basement and no one goes down there, kids are afraid of the dark/basement anyways lol
ibaheir2dathrone (547.3 days ago) We have a pistol with a trigger lock. Bullets (and the clip) are not with it. Our children have never seen it. They know we have one. I plan on taking our son hunting next year (he`ll be 12) so he`s going to attend the safety classes in our town. All of the fellas in my family are hunters and gun collectors. I see nothing wrong with having one in the house As long as you take every precaution to be as safe as possible.
canadababy (547.3 days ago) In Canada the law (in most situations) requires the gun either be locked in a gun safe or have a trigger lock. Ammunition must be kept separate and locked. I`m not sure if I would teach my children anything about guns until they were older, say 10ish, until then I wouldn`t even let them see it. I don`t think kids can really comprehend the dangers of things like guns, even if you tell them they are dangerous and not to be touched.
monkeymamma (547.4 days ago) I have a pistol in a case, in a drawer for just in case situations. Our son doesn`t even know about it. My husband has several rifles which are stored in his closet behind his clothes. The bullets are in a separate place. Our son knows about them but could care less. We talk with him about what they are used for, not to touch them, and being carful. Same goes for at my parent`s, grandparent`s, and brother`s houses because all the guys are hunters.
ambielutz444 (547.4 days ago) my husband grew up in the country and his dad and him went/still go hunting all the time,... he keeps his guns in their cases and the bullets separate. he stores them in the basement and his barn. my boys are 2 and 4 but when we do go to my in-law`s the kids are never around them. as long as everyone is responsible and practice gun safety when they are out the kids will be fine! =)
mummyteegs (547.4 days ago) We have a hunting gun in our house. It`s in a gun safe that needs keys and pin code to get into. Keys and bullets are kept well away from the safe. My oldest is only 4 and all she knows about is that its very dangerous and only daddy is aloud to go near it. My husban is very safe with storage, transport and handling of the gun. Everything is emptied and separated right up until he is about to use it. Best of luck :)
