If you have not already found out that you are pregnant, you probably will this month. It is usually best to wait until you have missed your period to take a pregnancy test. As early as this week, the plate that will become the heart has developed. The babies' brain, spinal cord, muscles, and bone formation are also beginning to form. The baby's skeleton is forming at this time as well. The embryos have a distinct organization that has a top, bottom, left, right, front and back. It is important that you continue or begin to take your prenatal vitamins to prevent birth defects. At six weeks, the embryos are about the size of raisins. Towards the end of this month, all of your babies will have visible facial features and their eyes have a retina and a lens.

Whenever you get a positive home pregnancy test or feel as if you might be pregnant, call your doctor. Your doctor will want to see you to confirm your pregnancy and begin prenatal care. On your initial doctors visit you may be checked on Hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cell count, blood group type, Rh factor, antibodies to blood group antigens, VDRL, rubella anti-Body titer, hepatitis B, toxoplasmosis, urine culture, and HIV. If you have an early untrasound to confirm or date your pregnancy, you might be shocked to learn that you are carrying three babies!

Sometimes as early as the second month of pregnancy, the insides of your hands and the bottoms of your feet may itch and take on a reddish hue. This annoying condition is called palmar erythema. The increased color is nothing more than a curiosity of pregnancy. You may begin to have sore breasts, nausea, fatigue and some food aversions/cravings.

During your first visit with the doctor, he or she will be going over information regarding your pregnancy. Address any questions or concerns that you have. They will also be doing a complete work up on you, including:

2.)Physical exam-heart, lungs, breasts, abdomen, and pelvic
3.)Family history questionaire
4.)Urine Sample
5.)Blood samples
