Week by week Twins calendar: pregnancy in weeks 32-36

4-8 8-12 12-16 16-20 20-24 24-28 28-32 32-36 36-40

This is the month that a multiple pregnancy will be so much different than that of a single pregnancy. The babies are not able to grow as much now as there is simply not enough room. However, they are relying on their mother's nutrition to help them put on the final layer of fat. Each baby will weigh around 5 pounds by the 36th week. If your babies are born now, they may need to spend a little bit of time in the intensive care unit. The babies lungs are beginning to produce surfactant , which will help the babies lungs to expand for their first breath. The placenta is still functioning well and nourishing the developing babies.

Your babies will be checked to make sure that they are in the head down position, which is needed for optimal delivery. The position that the babies are in at this point are not likely to change before delivery.

Your hips may feel like they are spreading and the diameter of your pelvis has probably increased a little by this time. The cramped uterus does not allow for intense fetal movements, but you should still feel subtle movements. Your extremities may swell more at this time, so it is important to get your feet up as often as you can.

Braxton Hicks contractions may be very frequent now. If you are experiencing more than four contractions in an hour, call your practitioner. Even if the contractions are not painful or intense, you could be experiencing preterm labor.

Due to increased urination, vivid dreams, anxiety and difficulty finding a comfortable position, you may be having a hard time sleeping. It is important that you rest as much as possible during these last few weeks.

Appetite may decrease because your uterus is increasing and your stomach is left with limited space. Make sure that you are drinking lots of fluids.

Backache
Nasal stuffiness

At The Doctor
Some women will deliver their babies around this time, while others will reman pregnant a little while longer. Your doctor will be checking the same things he has previously checked. At this point you will be monitored for any labor signs-dilation, effacement, contractions, water breakage, etc. In addition, your doctor will check for:
1.) Weight
2.) Blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate
3.) Heart and lungs
4.) Pelvic exam
5.) Urine screen for sugar, blood and bacteria
6.) Ultrasound assessment
7.) Fetal heartbeat
8.) Measure the fundus
9.) External palpation of the uterus
10.) Breast exam

My doctor won't schedule me until 38 weeks. I am pushing for 37w5d so I am induced on a Saturday but that will not be until December 5. My cervix is still 2 to 3 cm long and 1 cm dilated and no prgress over the last week. I am so ready but only two more weeks.

rachc - 11.8 hours ago
Wow, I don't know about the rest of y'all but my doctor says my girls WILL be here by 37 weeks (as in he is scheduling me for the hospital at 37 weeks). I'm a bit nervous and way excited, only 5 more weeks tops!

mommy2many - Thursday, 19 Nov
Still plugging along...32 wks with twin girls...Has anyone else started loosing their mucus plug? I have lost a few bits of it in the past few days. I has often happened for me starting about a month before I have delivered. So I keep thinking I could see my little girls a month from now. Exciting!!

kateo - Monday, 16 Nov
So....Twin 1 has now turned head down, in the last 4 days and I'm 36 weeks on Friday! Scheduled a c-section just in case she turns back around. I have a very active little girl in there. Hopefully she'll stay where she is=)

Kris1209 - Friday, 13 Nov
Growth ultrasound today 34 1/2 weeks and 5lb 10oz for A baby - head down against my cervix and 5lb 4oz for B baby breach and curlded up so it was hard to get a belly measurement so I expect he is bigger than measured. That is 11LB!!! of baby and a couple more weeks to go. Expected weight gain at this stage is 1/2lb a week so I am hoping for another two weeks.

kateo - Thursday, 12 Nov
Had an ultrasound today and both babies are still breech. 35 weeks today so chances are pretty slim that they'll turn. Twin A is 5lbs10oz and Twin B is 6lbs2oz. They've put on lots of weight since my last ultrasound 3 weeks ago. Wondering if the tech got it right? I wonder if this means the babies will ne born soon?

Kris1209 - Tuesday, 10 Nov
I agree I am ready for them to be here but I know they are not ready to be born yet.

steph2009 - Tuesday, 10 Nov
Ok, it's official, I'd really like these bubbies to come now! How's everyone else holding up?

Kris1209 - Monday, 9 Nov
piecesofyoukp - I am one week ahead of you with identical twin boys as well. I have been 1 cm for a long time (had my daughter vaginally 4 years ago and the doctor says it is normal for my cervix to be 1cm). As of last week no change. I have a growth US on Friday and I am going to try to get a date for induction of I do not go into labor before December.

tatsshorty - Monday, 9 Nov
I just posted some belly pic's all comments are welcomed

piecesofyoukp - Sunday, 8 Nov

asumta1 - Friday, 6 Nov
Hi All My babies, One Boy and one girl (surprise) were born on 3rd Nov. Patrick John weighs 6lb 8oz and Magdalen Sophia weighed in at 5lb 4oz. They are gorgeous. I had a vaginal delivery with epidural. I was 38 weeks 1 day. All of us are doing great. Will post photos soon

Kris1209 - Friday, 6 Nov
I am really getting tired of twicw a week NSTs and weekly US and doctor's appts and it has only been two weeks. Good news though the boys are still sharing, reactive and my cervix is not reacting to the contractions. One minus the right one has turned breach but his brother will be first and is still head down pressing against my cervix. Also got my H1N1 shot today now just need my husband and daughter to get theirs. Also treated myself to a manicure and pedicure whichalways makes me feel better.

steph2009 - Thursday, 5 Nov
My bubs almost arrived... just got home from 48 hours spent in hospital with lots of very regular, painful contractions and a lost mucous plug... Meds have suppressed them successfully for now so they've sent me home dosed up to the eyeballs... Had some steroid injections too which is a relief... but still, 34w2d is still a little early... even for twins! Fingers crossed we can keep them in for a little longer - as they say, every day counts at this stage. Hope everyone else is doing ok... xo

Kris1209 - Tuesday, 3 Nov
I feel like I cannot get enough to eat. I can only eat a little at a time but it seem like I eat every 2 hours. In the morning, especially on the weekends, hunger drives me out of bed when I just want to lay around in bed for a while.

happy out - Monday, 2 Nov
anyone else constantly hungry?

jennamoz - Monday, 2 Nov
kateo: Believe me, your belly can make it for another 3 or more weeks. It's hard to imagine, but it can! You should look up to see if there is anything you can do to reposition the lowest baby. Maybe some sort of exercise. Just thinking....take care

kateo - Monday, 2 Nov
Just went to the doctor this morning and it looks like both babies are breech now! Juts 2 weeks ago twin A was breech and twin B was head down. Now it looks liketwin B has turned around. The doctor said that it's pretty rare for both babies to be breech. Kind of a drag as I was going to try to go the natural route. Not sure if they will turn at this point. Good news is that there is no sign of labour,I'm almost 34 weeks. It's 37C (98F) today in Sydney and this heat is killing me, so it would be nice to have them out soon, BUT I would like them to be in there for at least another 3 weeks!!I wonder, can my belly stretch anymore????

Kris1209 - Sunday, 1 Nov
Full term for twins is some where between 36 and 38 weeks - depends on who you ask. But typically, they will induce twins at 38 weeks and singles at 42 weeks unless baby is stresses or too big. I was at the doctor on Friday and a 38 week twin mom was in a NST test and was complaining of contractions. They got her checked by the doctor and she was in labor. She was very happy as she was very uncomfortable.

kateo - Saturday, 31 Oct
Hi kynansmum! I live about an hour south of Sydney in Helensburgh,NSW. So, I'm guessing we're about 5 hours from eachother=) I've moved from Canada about 9 months ago. My husband's Australian. It's funny, b/c there is a woman that lives a few blocks down from me who just had twins 5 months ago and has a 2 yr old boy as well! I am planning on breastfeeding. I just ordered a pillow from a woman in Brisbane who had twins 5 yrs ago and specifically designed this pillow for woman breasfeeding twins. I should be getting it soon, I'll let you know how it is. It sounds like a gem! Her company is called 2 Easy Peasy Designs. It's a tad pricey, but hopefully worth it! So, you're 35 weeks now? Any sign of labour yet? So,I am told that 38 weeks for twins is like 42 weeks for a singleton? Anyone else heard this?

Kris1209 - Friday, 30 Oct
jana - just remember that is just an estimate. It's not about weight at this point its about lung development. Even at 38 weeks technically you are 2 weeks early.

janaesbbs - Friday, 30 Oct
im 36+4 and my bbs are estimated at 7lbs each. I feel like my stomach is going to rip in half everytime i stand up. i want to talk my ob into doing my csec earlier than 38 wks but i don't think he'll budge. im just worried now they'll be too big by then. i can't sleep or move its just too painful. how can i get labor going? sorry just venting a little. I spent the last 3 months trying to keep them in now i want nothing more than to get them out :)

kynansmum - Thursday, 29 Oct
Kateo - My bubs are weighing at 1.9kg and 1.6kg at 35 weeks.
Kateo - Hi there! I am in nsw central west. A little country town. Yes planning on breastfeeding. I know it is best for bubs and will help save some dollars on formula. Even if I end up expressing and bottle feeding them breast milk for as long as possible. I am buying a breast pump. Do you plan on BF? I am off for a scan tomorrow and a CTG on Tuesday. I hear you with the tired. I gave up work 4 weeks ago. I miss it terribly, but know that I needed to give up. WQhere abouts in oz are you? I am so glad I found this website... I am also lucky that another lady in my town just had twin girls 4 monmths ago and she too has a little boy already, so she has been a great help too.

kateo - Thursday, 29 Oct
Hi kynansmum, Kateo here, I am in Oz as well. Where abouts in Oz do you live? I'm almost 33 weeks now, and am very glad that we don't have to go through this in the super hot months. I'm having 2 girls as well and also have a 2.5 year old son to run after constantly. So so tired!!! my girls are around 1.75kilo each, so also on the small side, but they are healthy. Are you planning on breastfeeding?

Kris1209 - Wednesday, 28 Oct
I am so excited. I have actually slept the last two nights after not sleeping well for almost a week. I am still tired but not as bad. My girlfriend was over for dinner tonight (the 4 of us had girls night as our husbands play pool on Weds - mommies and daughters) and she said I am bigger than I was three days ago. I feel bigger too.

kynansmum - Wednesday, 28 Oct
Kris1209 - Hi there! I am 35 weeks today. Yes They are exciting. I am in Oz and they call ours a CTG... I had one last friday and both babies are doing great. That is when they would stay still!! I am booked for my C-section in 3 weeks. So this time in 3 weeks my girls will be born. If I dont go earlier. I have had a great pregnancy up until now. But I am just so uncomfortable and cant sleep at bight. I am soooooo tired. My girls are very small and I have gestational Diabetes. But I have managed through all that! I am just over it. need to sleep. Hard with a 2.5 year old boy to look after!. Hope everyone else is feeling well. It is just starting to get hot here in Australia, so I am glad I am almost done. Good luck ladies... I have really enjoyed reading evryones stories. I found so much in common with all you ladies, it made me feel I was not alone! Take care.

Kris1209 - Tuesday, 27 Oct
I went for my first NST today and isn't that just the most exciting thing to try and get both of them to cooperate and not move away from the monitor for 20 minutes each. The top one was very cooperative but the nurse had to baby sit the monitor on the lower one. Good results as both are reactive. Contractions measuring in the 80 to 90 range but not regular. US, NST and Dr appt on Friday. Twice a week NST and once a week Dr and US from now on. LOL

momof3twinsonway - Tuesday, 27 Oct
Hey everyone! My twins are now 10 weeks old! I can't believe it. I just wanted to say that I know you guys (women) are miserable but keep them babies in as long as you can. I wanted mine out also. They took mine at 36w6d because of my blood pressure. My son (kyle) came home with me and our daughter (kaitlyn) was in the hospital for 16 days becuase of immature lungs. I don't wish that on any of you. It was sooooo hard to have one home and one at the hosptial. They also thought at one point they were going to have to put our daughter on a respirator. She was on oxygen, feeding tube, she has to have a pic line inserted. She had blood drawn everyday, x-rays because of fluid on her lungs. Yeah, I know it doesn't happen to all twins but it does happen. My son was 5lbs 8oz and she was 5lbs 14oz and even though those are great weights for twins and she was bigger she was the one who had problems. Good luck to all of you and God Bless!

janaesbbs - Tuesday, 27 Oct
i also had that movement worry but the dr also told me their feet were in the same area so the kicking could be either one. my baby A is so low they can't measure her head anymore

steph2009 - Monday, 26 Oct
Thanks so much guys... I end up feeling so anxious when I don't feel Twin B... nice to know it's not an abnormal occurrence!

bbcoop - Monday, 26 Oct
I just posted in the previous weeks the same thing, baby A was totally comfy sitting low and waiting to be delivered while baby b moved like crazy lounging on the top!

sebjones - Monday, 26 Oct
My baby A is head down all the way into position and it is extremely rare that I feel her move. Baby B is transverse on top. I feel him move all of the time. I was concerned as well and asked the dr last week. He said Baby A is in safest position possible but just doesn't have much wiggle room. Hope that makes you feel better.

steph2009 - Monday, 26 Oct
I have a question... I was just wondering whether anyone else is having trouble working out which bub is kicking? I only ever seem to feel kicking on one side (in two distinct places but still...) and it worries me sometimes. Anyone else with the same problem?

AmandaMoon - Thursday, 22 Oct
Hello ladies, I've made it to 35 wks! Yay! But unfortunately I was at the hospital tuesday night. Contractions were ranging from the 80s - 90s on the monitor screen. But I didn't dialate at all which is great. Dr isn't sure I'm going to make it to my 36th appt, which is on wed (28th). She upped my meds to 20 mg of procardia every 4 hrs, but the contractions r still coming just not as strong. I'm so tired tho!

janaesbbs - Thursday, 22 Oct
im 35wks 3d and i had my ultrasound today, bbs measuring 6lbs 9oz and 6lbs 4oz!! Big huh? My dr couldn't believe im still prego but said he wouldn't schedule c-section until 38 wks but should be fine to deliver anytime. I'm so ready now, how can i get this moving faster? I want to walk around but im so big i can barely move. Im out of breath just going to the bathroom. I just went off procardia today though so that may make a difference.

sebjones - Thursday, 22 Oct
denise t--Congrats! What a blessing! Hope you are doing okay as well as the babies. kateo--My twins were also 3 1/2 pounds each at 32 weeks. Dr. said that they were in 28th percentile so on the small side, but everything looked healthy. I'm 34 weeks now and they only think they are around 4 lbs each. I wish they were bigger, but I am trying to rest as much as possible to prevent preterm labor. Already dilated 2 cm. Getting a little nervous.

kateo - Wednesday, 21 Oct
Had an ultrasound today and found out each baby is around 3.85lbs. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow. I thought I was 32 weeks last week! Preggo brain I suppose. Is this small for twin girls at this stage? The utrasound tech said they are a little below average, but all is healthy and good. I am so tired though. I feel like I can't do anything without sitting down every 5 mins. Sleeping is pretty hard at the moment as well. I'm up every 2 hours having to pee! I still have so much to prepare for these babies, but have no energy to do it!! Anyone else feel this way??

denise t - Wednesday, 21 Oct
had the twins today. water broke and 4 hours later they arrived by csection. Teagan Kai 4lbs 3oz. Torin Kole4lbs. i was 32wks 2days. Torin needs little help breathing but both are doing well.
SO happy to have made it to 32 weeks. I am getting really antzy to be off bedrest and meet these 2 already. I posted a new belly pic. I just wish the girl on bottom would flip around soon so I don't need a c-section.
steph- wow your babies are so big. I was scheduled to have a growth check this Friday but had it rescheduled for next Friday. This will be the 1st week in 10 weeks I haven't had to go to the doctor for a check. I am starting to see the light at the end of the 'bedrest tunnel' and so looking forward to being able to move a bit more in 2 weeks- 'legally' anyway. haha I have been feeling less like a ticking time bomb and getting around the house a bit more the last week. It was so nice to actually clean off the baby things that have been stored in the garage this past weekend. I got to sit and clean outside while the mother in law moved the stuff around for me.

steph2009 - Tuesday, 20 Oct
After much deliberation, I'm off to have my swine flu vaccine this morning. I'll let you know if I have any ill effects - fingers crossed, though, it will all be fine. On a cheerier note, however, I had an ultrasound on my twin boys this morning - and, although I'm only 32 weeks today, they're measuring at over 35 weeks already. Twin A is 5 pounds 7 ounces (or 2.6 kgs) and Twin B is 5 pounds 5 ounces (or 2.5 kgs). Looks as though they're going to be big boys - am getting very afraid of how big the ole belly is going to get by the time they're ready to come! Very, very happy they're doing well though... Hope you're all traveling well... xo

twhitehead - Tuesday, 20 Oct
Had my last ultrasound today at 35wks 2 days baby a (the boy) is head down and weighs 5.10 lbs and baby b (the girl) weighs 5.8 lbs and is breech they r measuring a wk ahead still and they said everything looked great now just waiting for them to decide to come hopefully sometime soon!!!

nyctwinmomtobe - Sunday, 18 Oct
janaesbbs- Congrats on making it this far. I can so relate, docs were talking about taking my babies out at 28 wks and here we are....36 wks on Tuesday. Prayer is powerful indeed. I'm hoping we hang on a little more until week 37 however I'm so grateful to have made it this far.

AmandaMoon - Sunday, 18 Oct
Feeling like total crud today. I don't have a cold but man my body is telling me 'I'm done'. Kind of wish I would just go into full blown labor so that this will be done. Ugh!!!

twhitehead - Sunday, 18 Oct
I made it to 35 wks YEA!! I am so ready for this pregnancy to be over with though I am starting to wonder how much longer that they can actually stay in there!

jennamoz - Saturday, 17 Oct
I have a questions for all of you mommies expecting twins that have had previous c-sections:::::: Is your Doctor saying that you'll need to have another c-section with your twins due to a previous c-section?
