At this point of your pregnancy, the crown-to-rump length of your developing baby is 1.25 to 1.68 inches. It is now easier to tell how much the baby weighs since he is beginning to put on some weight. Your baby weighs approximately 5 grams and is the size of a small plum! The baby has grown an incredible amount during these past few weeks, but you still aren't showing too much yet.
This week is somewhat of a landmark for your developing baby. By now, your baby's complete body plan is laid down. Your baby will continue to develop and grow for the remainder of the pregnancy. The fingers and toes have separated and the tail has disappeared now. Your baby has taste and tooth buds at this point, which will continue to develop. The brain will continue to grow at an amazing rate and nearly a quarter of a million new neurons are produced every minute! The embryonic heart is completely developed. External genitalia are not apparent until next week, but a male's testes will already be producing testosterone.
Because you have high hormone levels at this time, you may notice an abundance of emotional and physical effects. Most pregnant women find themselves getting distressed easily and have frequent
mood swings. Common physical changes include the beginning of real
weight gain, potential softening of the
gums and slightly swollen thyroid glands. Common emotional changes include feelings of unattractiveness, feelings of inadequacy and concerns about what the future holds. Some women are not excited about their pregnancy at first and question the condition. It is not uncommon to get upset easily, cry at the slightest things, feel moody or drift on daydreams.
You may have gained a little weight already.
Average weight gain during pregnancy is about 28lbs(13kgs), but most of that is gained in the second and third trimester.

I take an extra calcium supplement on top of the prenatal vitamin. The prenatal only has something like, 20% of our daily calcium in it (which I think is crazy). I read that our babies will suck calcium from our bones and teeth if we don't get enough. So I say: keep the calcium pills coming!CWolvy -

I am at week 10 and one day. No more M/S and alot less tired, still sore BB's. I'm showing a little and have gained about 5 pounds in a month, but I don't know really why since I work out for 30 min a day and eat pretty healthy :( I'm worried what my doctor will say when I go in at the end of the month since she says to only gain 25 pounds. *sigh*.
I am nervous and anxious, hoping that we will have another u/s at this appointment so I can see the growth over the last 4 weeks.

staceyL...about the dopplers. A reputable company such as stork radio (which is owned by on OB-GYN) only rents or sells dopplers that are FDA approved and requires a signed prescription by your own OBGYN. They come with clear instructions to only use twice a week and are very safe. No one should use without consulting with their own Dr. and certainly don't use one that isn't FDA approved. Otherwise, listen and enjoy! Congrats everybody!jenn5193 -

I hate to be a buzzkill since everyone seems so excited about their at-home doppler / heartbeat monitors but thought I would share the following warning as an FYI: http://www.fda.gov/consumer/updates/keepsakevideo032408.htmlAmericas-next-top-mommy! -

I just bought a doppler online and I am hoping it will be at home for me when I get there in about an hour so I can tear into it and hopefully hear the bbaies heartbeating! Has other people who have used a doppler got a heartbeat at 10 1/2 - 11 weeks? I am so excited!dc_finest82 -

WOW! I HAVE to recommend renting a doppler for home. I got one for $30 a month and you can return at anytime. It arrived today and I am now able to hear the heartbeat anytime I want from home...VERY reassuring especially with how scared I am of miscarrying again. There are tons of sites...just google it. congrats everybody!Everafter -

We could hear the heart beat and see the bladder, spine, heart...it was amazing! He or she grew so much since two weeks ago...I swear it must have quadrupled in size. We are so happy. I feel like I am glowing. missmoni -

Hey everyone! I am also having back pains but I am not sure if it is anything to be worried about or if they are normal... I did a lot of sitting this weekend while I was doing my homework on the computer and my neck was at a very weird angle. My back pain isn't in the lower area though... Its mainly in my middle back area and it feels like its in my lung or something... Its really weird. Anyone else have this?
About the baby shower, I know I can't stop thinking about it... I just can't WAIT! My sister already has the date planned out... She is going to do it the first week in March... I will be 2 months beofre my due date! YAY!kaharris05 -

My bf immediately said she wanted to do my baby shower when I told her I was pregnant (week 7). My little sister offered to do it this weekend, but she's only 13 so I wouldn't put that on her. I honestly haven't put any other thought into it though. I'm just trying to get to week 12.babyfoster09 -

MLObaby09- Thanks congrats to you!!! I have tried gum and it makes me very nauseated. I wish I could chew gum because all the candy i'm sucking on I'm sure is very bad for my teeth/gums. But, I can't help this taste in my mouth. It drives me nuts!!! if I eat anything salty...make it worst. I guess I should not complain I know some of you have M/S alot worst sorry! I know it's really early but, has anyone made plans for babyshowers? Me and my family were having our Sunday after football dinner's and we got into discussion. I had not thought that far in advance but, today that's all I can think about. greenebaby09 -

I experienced a really sharp pain in the middle of the night (pelvic area) after I peed (had to go badly) but it only happened once. I thought it was because I held it in too long. I am also having some low-grade aches and pains in the lower abdoman and lower back area. It's not intense, just annoying. I just figured it was my uterus stretching - no bleeding though. Had some mucus discharge in wk 9 - I know, gross. kaharris05 -

Hope09, I have started to use vintamin E already just because this is number 4 and I am already starting to show. I don't want to take any chances. It would probably help because it will allow your skin more elasticity for when you get bigger.sassytassie -

hope09, anything with vitamin E is good like Palmers coco butter or pure vitamin E oil. That is what I used with my other three pregnancies and managed to prevent them on my belly.nanners1975 -

i'm finally week 10 tomorrow. So far the only thing that i'm feeling different is being tired all the time, and also the change in taste of food..other than that...i'm feeling so normal that i question myself at times if i'm actually pregnant or not! but then i remind myself i had an ultrasound done, and that it showed the fetus was fine.. =)circle -

Well everyone.... I gave in! I just bought a Hi BeBe Fetal Doppler off of ebay... It cost me $110 but I dont really care. It will so be worth being able to hear our little angels heartbeat! I read all of the comments that buyers left and they were all really great! Most people can hear the heartbeat around 10-11 weeks so when I get it it should pick it up! I will let everyone know how it works! I hope you are all feeling fantastic and loving your little baby humps!1st time pregs -

Hey evry1! Had a good scare today. Had some spotting and really slight bleeding so I rushed to the doctor. Told me sex had aggravated my cervix and/or vaginal wall (sorry 4 the TMI). Got to finally hear the heartbeat and see the lil one again. Can't believe the changes in under 2 weeks time. Still checking my undies evry 5 mins lol but they said it may take some time to stop. Scary. Hope evry1 had an easier day then me :)lisad11784 -

hi babyfoster + congrats! I have the same issue with the exessive saliva. It makes MS even harder. I chew several pieces of gum throughout the day and it helps.
greenbaby... I have itchy stomach too. It's not really bad but it's definitely every day and I'm good about moisturizing. I think it's the begging of an expanding belly. My pants are fitting more snug lately and I look bloated (I'm usually pretty small in the waist area). sweetheart26 -

Hello, I'm new to this webiste. I have to say I'm really sorry for all of you that are having such a rough time. The only thing that bothers me is this watery/different taste in my mouth, I constantly have Lifesavers mints in my mouth. I was told peppermint candies help. I have lost 12 lbs and It's just that I really have no appetite. Nothing satisfies my hunger when I'm actually hungry. I don't have much of a belly yet but, My pants do feel snug. My skin is dry, but the weather is changing. Just wanted to say congrats to all the new mommies to be!! glad to be part of week 10!!!lisad11784 -

circle- I am feeling the same, but talked to the doc and she said everything was gonna be ok! I am so sorry they wouldnt let you hear the heart. When I went to my doc I begged for a US and they gave me one so I heard the heart on there, but they wouldnt put that thingy to my belly because I was only 8 weeks. but I did hear it over all, but this was the first place I had been to that doesnt. so I guess it is normal, but it sux! Im sorry...shelly32 -

circle - I lost weight the beginning of my last pregnancy and then didn't gain anything until 20 weeks...from 20 week until 41 weeks I gained 46 lbs!!!! So yes if you don't watch what you eat you can gain too much especially once the m/s wears off you might want to make up for all the things you've been missing haha. my thing was ice cream, i dont really drink milk so i guess that's why i craved ice cream so i ate a large bowl each day haha, i'm being much more careful this time for sure, and with my little one and the other one i watch i hardly have time to eat as it is! greenebaby09 -
