At this point of your pregnancy, the crown-to-rump length of your developing baby is 1.25 to 1.68 inches. It is now easier to tell how much the baby weighs since he is beginning to put on some weight. Your baby weighs approximately 5 grams and is the size of a small plum! The baby has grown an incredible amount during these past few weeks, but you still aren't showing too much yet.
This week is somewhat of a landmark for your developing baby. By now, your baby's complete body plan is laid down. Your baby will continue to develop and grow for the remainder of the pregnancy. The fingers and toes have separated and the tail has disappeared now. Your baby has taste and tooth buds at this point, which will continue to develop. The brain will continue to grow at an amazing rate and nearly a quarter of a million new neurons are produced every minute! The embryonic heart is completely developed. External genitalia are not apparent until next week, but a male's testes will already be producing testosterone.
Because you have high hormone levels at this time, you may notice an abundance of emotional and physical effects. Most pregnant women find themselves getting distressed easily and have frequent mood swings. Common physical changes include the beginning of real weight gain, potential softening of the gums and slightly swollen thyroid glands. Common emotional changes include feelings of unattractiveness, feelings of inadequacy and concerns about what the future holds. Some women are not excited about their pregnancy at first and question the condition. It is not uncommon to get upset easily, cry at the slightest things, feel moody or drift on daydreams.
You may have gained a little weight already. Average weight gain during pregnancy is about 28lbs(13kgs), but most of that is gained in the second and third trimester.

mainemomma- This is my 4th pregnancy and I have 3 girls. Every single pregnancy was different!! After I had my first girl I thought for sure that the second one was a boy because it was all different symtoms. Then with my 3rd girl it was all different again so I thought again that I would have my boy...NOPE! Well, this one is totally different than the last 3. Still hoping for a boy because this is going to be my last one. I took that intelligender test and it came out 'boy' but I am not getting my hopes up...LOL

mainemomma- i have a boy and a girl already and the two pregnancies were totally different. I wasn't sick even for a day with my son, and sick as a dog with my daughter. I just felt different the whole time, so I was pretty sure I was having a girl the second time around. This time I think it's a girl too, but DH really wants a boy...we'll see!!

i've had different symptoms and different sex babies i got no symptoms this time hope its a boy was really ill last time and had a girl
mainemomma - 2 hours ago
To all you mom's who have had several babies: How many of you experienced different symptoms in each pregnancy resulting in a different sex? My first was a boy and of course naturally I am hoping for a girl since it's our last. I was not really sick with him and this time I am super nauseous!! Last time McDonald's appealed to me this time I want donuts:) Thought this would be a fun question...only time wll tell what's growing in there:)

Swift heart. I have moved into stretchy pants because my normal pants are too tight, but like you, not big enough to fit in maternity wear yet. The other thing I have done is buy pants a size or two bigger and they are so comfortable.

well, we got some bad news last night that our land lord was selling our place and we had a few weeks to move out. I flipped out! but things are looking up now. But i did find when i get upset my stomach cramps really bad, and i almost pass out. we found somewhere to move, and thank god i don't have to change my son's school. all this in time for the holidays! so i will hopefully have christmas in the new place. all this stress is not good! plus my childrens bd's are in december! i'm trying to think positive!

Whoohooo I went to the doctor again today(b/c i'm a yeasty girl, i know, i know, TMI)and got to hear the heart beat again. And of course when i got home I got yet another 'wow your getting big' comment from a neighbor (not even a friend? What is that? now random people are starting to notice my rapid expansion?)but i think i did good considering i just smiled and didn't poke his eyes out, lol :) Lord knows i'm soooo ready to trade the mood swings for a prego belly!

My girls (ages 6 and 1) and I had the H1N1 virus 4 weeks ago, and I had the choice of using Tamiflu, and I opted not to used it, because of the risks it might pose to the baby. Only my youngest went on it, and we are all fine now. My husband didn't get the virus and he was with us everyday.

I know one thing, im going to have to retire the 'skinny jean' look. Oh they still fit but after i button i got this big ol bloated pot belly hanging down over em hahaha...if I dont laugh at these things I will cry.

Question: Is anyone else having a lot of trouble with tight pants at this early stage?? Everyday it seems my pants are tighter and extremely uncomfortable. My boss asked me the other day if I'd put on weight because my pants were looking very tight....grrrr. The thing is I'm no where near big enough for maternity wear yet....it's just a little frustrating!
Butterfly25 - 21.8 hours ago
I got the shot today! I feel fine so far and hopefully it helps keep the little one and me safe! Anyone that has other children are you getting the vaccine for them as well? I don't believe it is available yet for my daughter.
MayBebe - 23.4 hours ago
mainemomma- your right on the Tamiflu. Many people don't realize that if they are even exposed they are going to be put on Tamiflu which has bigger concerns. We still have to go through the whole flu season.
glamour313 - 23.6 hours ago
I will be gettin the H1N1 Shot as well, thats nothing to be playing around with.
mainemomma - 1 days ago
anw- I'll be getting mine too! My Dr. said it doesn't cross the placenta...not to mention if we get the swine flu we'd immediately be put on Tamiflu which is a class C drug which even says they don't know the risks to fetus! It only recently was approved for pregnant women...so you figure which is worse?? :)

I just got the H1N1 and flu shots today. I work with the public so I just can't take the risk!

First day of week 10! This was the week I had a m/c in last time around. I am excited to be this far, but also extremely nervous. My husband doesn't seem to understand my mixed feelings about this week and in particular of this coming Wednesday. He says not to worry....but that is so much easier to say than do! Morning sickness seems to be getting better now though! Fingers crossed.

mamakarr, i took the intelligender test and it said I'm having a girl (we're hoping for a boy!) I'm hoping its wrong, but I know of 9 or 10 diff women that have taken it and it was accurate. My sis in law, however, took the test with both of her sons and it said girl both times. Hopefully mine is wrong too.... but not yours!
mamakarr - 2 days ago
Anyone else done the intelligender test? I just did and it's saying BOY. My hubby will be very happy, since we already have a little girl. Guess we'll find out in about 8 more weeks if it's accurate (supposed to be 90% accurate b/c it reads your hormone levels).
Butterfly25 - 2 days ago
amyrob: I am having the early screening done. I had to call my insurance compnay to make sure it was covered for me because I guess if under the age 35 they don't always cover this screening. Luckily I am covered so I will have U/S done 11/23 and meet with the Dr 12/4.

afikpo: I am right with you!! Today has been the worst so far for me. I truly thought I was going to lose it and throw up. I felt so good when pregnant with my daughter. This time around I feel like crap and food does the same thing to me. I am hoping second trimester is better.

I can't seen so stay awake lately. Too bad I have to be at school in three hours, and have to read a chapter and study for two quizzes, and a presentation today or else I would stay home. Does not help that hubby and had a big fight last night and did not get to sleep until 12am and up at 6am.
I told hubby he cant piss me off anymore. It stresses me out.
Hubby did apologize for being such an ass. that was nice.

Its my last day in week 10... I can't wait for tomorrow! I'm excited for my 16 wk u/s and it can't come soon enough. Most of my morning sickness is gone, now I'm just EXTREMELY tired. I can't seem to sleep enough. I hope this goes away soon, I want my energy back! Question for all you ladies... as far as BD goes, has that changed much for anyone? It must be my hormones but its all I think about! For some reason, my DH is not as enthusiastic... he says he's still scared to hurt the baby (esp because dr said no sex because of bleeding around wk 5). Is anyone having the same problem?

CARRIEBABY28- congrats to ur 10 week mark!! 30 more to go and there will prob be a little more going on that will worry you. lol theres nothing to it really! eat sleep and excersise and try not to stress and usually everyone will come and rub ur tummy. the worry part is when people say things 'like wow ur big!! how far along are u again?!?!' and then the nearer to due date. and this is a good site to be on when u can. good luck and heres to our next 30 weeks ^.^

Is anyone else feeling a lot of pressure in their lower abdomen? It kind of feels like i have a rock in my belly... it's even hurting a bit in my lower back, no sharp pains, just a dull ache. Just wondering if this is normal at 10 weeks.
lovelyluney - 3 days ago
Afikpo Chic, i hate that feeling so much! right when i got the positive test i was sick. i couldnt keep down water! i was in the ER everyday bcuz of dehydration. i had heart failure bcuz of no food or potassuim. it was HORRIBLE! it ended around the 14th week for me. i still get nasious everyonce in a while. but its really crazy that if smell the perfume i wore at the time or hear songs i played in the car, i get sick!! its wierd! im so sorry you have to be sick like that. i tired out the sea bands and they gave me a head ache. i ate crackers and it wasnt much help either. try pop sickles and a fizzy juice or soda. anything you can keep down is better than nothing!

amyrob: I am getting the down syndrome test done at 12 weeks as well. Here in Australia if you are over the age of 30 then they highly recommend you get it. However its not a free one and you have to pay for it but for the sake of a few hundred bucks its well worth it. I have already had 2 u/s and saw the little heart beat at 8wks. Normally they only give you one u/s duing the pregnancy (at 16wks) but if theres any signs of problems like cramping then you can have as many as you need... I had cramping earlier in the pregnancy so I had one at 5wks and another at 8wks. I could have one everyday just to see the little jellybean :-)

This is my first pregnancy and I think I am about 10 weeks -- I conceived right after stopping the pill so I am not 100% sure when I ovulated. I am totally freaking out for 2 reasons: 1.) I am on a category B medication that I can not get off of and I am terrified it may affect my baby and 2.) I work with people with disabilities so I am super-paranoid because I know about all the things that could go wrong. I just need to vent because I am tired of my husband and family telling me not to worry and I was wondering if anyone is getting the Down Syndrome screening done in week 12-14?
aliya- - 3 days ago
TruLove3, your doctor is not going to send you for a sequential screening? You would usually get a scan with the screening. I think is done somewhere around 11 - 13 weeks.
The due date from members in week 10 is from Sunday 30 May 2010 up to & including Saturday 5 June 2010. See the full timeline here
