Born & Birth stories

At this point of your pregnancy, the crown-to-rump length of your developing baby is 1.25 to 1.68 inches. It is now easier to tell how much the baby weighs since he is beginning to put on some weight. Your baby weighs approximately 5 grams and is the size of a small plum! The baby has grown an incredible amount during these past few weeks, but you still are not showing too much yet.

Fetus in pregnancy week 10 Click for a bigger movie of this busy boy

This week is somewhat of a landmark for your developing baby. By now, your babys complete body plan is laid down. Your baby will continue to develop and grow for the remainder of the pregnancy. The fingers and toes have separated and the tail has disappeared now. Your baby has taste and tooth buds at this point, which will continue to develop. The brain will continue to grow at an amazing rate and nearly a quarter of a million new neurons are produced every minute! The embryonic heart is completely developed. External genitalia are not apparent until next week, but the testes in baby boys will already be producing testosterone.

Because you have high hormone levels at this time, you may notice an abundance of emotional and physical effects. Most pregnant women find themselves getting distressed easily and have frequent mood swings. Common physical changes include the beginning of real weight gain, potential softening of the gums and slightly swollen thyroid glands. Common emotional changes include feelings of unattractiveness, feelings of inadequacy and concerns about what the future holds. Some women are not excited about their pregnancy at first and question the condition. Moodswings are not uncommon and many pregnancy women tend to get upset easily, cry at the slightest things, feel moody or drift on daydreams.

You may have gained a little weight already. Average weight gain during pregnancy is about 28lbs(13kgs), but most of that is gained in the second and third trimester.

much love to you beee, in this hard time

brookebaby3 - 33 days ago
Beee- I'm sorry Sweety! I hope you feel better soon!

ali*l - 33 days ago
I've been thinking about that too, milkyway! Baby A is on my right side (heart rate was 161 at 9 weeks), Baby B is on my left (heart rate 174). I asked the ultrasound tech if they were on opposite sides of the uterus and she confirmed it. I really think Baby A is my boy and Baby B is my girl!

milkyway - 33 days ago
Ali, I just read your post. Out of curiosity, what side are you feeling your baby A and B nudges on? I've been feeling little taps on the right side of my uterus since yesterday. You know someone posted the theory that 97% of male babies have their placenta attached to the right side. Would be interesting to see if the theory is correct later,

hopingfor - 33 days ago
Bee, big support going your way, hope ou feel better and get stronger over time. I will pray that you will be blessed again soon.

ali*l - 33 days ago
Last day in week 10! Ultrasound in 9 days! Nurse visit in 2 days. Hoping I can hear the babies heartbeats! I've been feeling a few little bumps and nudges! I thought I was imagining it but I felt three distinct nudges from baby A while checking out at the store. I've felt baby B too but not as much. Hoping to start feeling them more consistently. It's so awesome! I'm about to post a bump pic! Hehe!

Morning ladies! So I'm back to work today, so that's going to be interesting. Ms is still around so we will see how I cope with my day and my clients. I work with kids 3-14 years old.... I'm an educational specialist, so it's gonna be challenging with the nausea all day. Anyways, .gonna think positive and hope for the best. Will soon be over the first trimester, and praying the ms will subside. I must admit I allow a sudden feel like I have been pregnant forever, and 1o weeks seems like barely anything. Maybe as I start back work I will have more of my time occupied and it will go faster. My next appointment is in 11 days so I'm looking forward to that. Have a nice week ladies, and a great day.

preciousbabybump - 34 days ago
Just looking in from week 22 dont worry ladies MS will pass soon! Hang in there! lil tip for extreme MS i drank ginger tea after each meal and avoided vomiting it helped set my stomach.

sophie-hannah - 35 days ago
I still have pretty bad M/S been put off my roast dinner :(, i'm hoping it gets better soon, on a + note 16 days til my 1st scan x

hopingfor - 35 days ago
So I survived my very long day yesterday, and managed to be tucked in and asleep by 11pm. I am pretty exhausted today, as it was a very long day, so hoping I will be able to sneak in a nap at some point today. How's everyone else doing? Ms wise, so far tis morning I'm not too bad, but not great either. So hoping as the day progresses it may be better. Enjoy your Sunday!

tuhreesa - 35 days ago
Thanks Ali-l and Sophie-Hannah. Congrats to everyone and their babies!

dazieoo - 35 days ago
I actually felt alright today! I hope this keeps up!

brookebaby3 - 35 days ago
Hoping- that sounds fun! I'm sure you'll be able to keep up! Once your up and moving you'll be fine! After a long day like that and finally sitting on the couch is usually when I crash lol. Yes, I think I've posted before saying I need to wear a panty liner because I have a lot too.. It is normal. I think I read that the mucus plug starts forming around 10 weeks or so. So an increase is common. As every vaginal concern, watch out for unusual color, odor, and texture. Also we have a lot more blood flow to that area so its normal! Make sure if you do take the panty liner route you only wear them on a day like today lol wearing them too much can cause the vagina to not breath, causing a bacterial infection or yeast infection!

hopingfor - 36 days ago
Hey guys, my first day in week 10, and I'm happy to report today was a better day where ms was concerned. I feel a lot brighter today, so hoping that lasts from now on, and the ms keeps subsiding. Tomorrow is my hubby's birthday so wanna feel good, as we have a long day planned - breakfast, beach for the day then a gathering in the afternoon. I have no clue how I am gonna keep up, but will certainly try. Anyhow hope everyone is feeling and doing good. Have a great weekend. Oh wait, one more observation.... Sorry if tmi, but I noticed today an increase an almost overflow of cm, has anyone else experienced that, is that normal?

brookebaby3 - 36 days ago
Beee- hearing that there is a fetal pole is very reassuring! Ill be praying for you! Is that the first ultrasound? Some women have odd cycles and get a little thrown off on dates. Is your cycle regular?

Beee - 36 days ago
Brokebaby3-there was and am confident that all is well.My midwife examined touched me and said the baby is there and ok.Thanks for the concern.Am no more worried my partner has really been a companion always telling me to think positive. This is my first experience and I know I will succeed

brookebaby3 - 36 days ago
Beee- if there is a fetal pole or heartbeat that changes a lot! After my experience I won't believe it until I'm for sure having a miscarriage. I was told my baby hasn't grown in 2 weeks and had a weak heart beat. Plan to miscarry within the next 4 days.. It never happened. They were all wrong. A blighted ovum is an empty sack. If there's a baby in there it's not a blighted ovum.

sophie-hannah - 36 days ago
Aww congrats tuhreesa xx

ali*l - 36 days ago
Awesome news, tuhreesa! I'm having twins, too. :) I just bought a book called When You Are Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads by Dr. Barbara Luke. It's got a lot of good info!

tuhreesa - 37 days ago
Hi everyone! Well it's official, I am having twins. I am so nervous! I went to the hospital when I was six weeks for hyperemesis and had to get two bags of IV fluids and potassium because I couldn't keep anything down. They did an ultrasound and saw two sacs but only one embryo and one heartbeat, so for almost a month i have been freaking out about vanishing twin syndrome. Now I am on zofran odt 4mg but I only take it a couple of times a week because my doctor said it's not really good for the baby :-( I am so miserable and tired and hungry but I can't decide what to eat, everything grosses me out. For anyone else anxious to see your lil bean, check out your local ultrasound school. There is one not too far from me that gives free ultrasounds whenever you want, as long as you make an appointment. Sorry for such a long post, been lurking for a while. Good luck to all you mommys and god bless all our lil babies! xo

hopingfor - 37 days ago
Sophie, I have had that dizzy black out spells happening also. They were more frequent earlier in the week, but yesterday and the day before my ms got worse, was even throwing up. It's been a rough ride so far this pregnancy, as I don't have a minute in he day where I feel normal. I just prayer by the end of this trimester it will subside. I go to the doc n the26th, so think they will havego test my sugars again like in my last pregnancy.

Beee - 37 days ago
Milkyway/Brokebaby3 thanks for your concern......I went to the first place He said the baby was too small for the LMP am calling then I went to the second place he said the baby was 5ks 4dys both of them recommended I should come back for the U/S in 2wks time the blighted ovum was with a question sign as in ?.........any hope for me that my baby will still grow.

sophie-hannah - 37 days ago
Hello week 10!, God this is going quickly!,i passed out after getting out of the bath last night i'm pretty sure i have bad anemia just waiting for the blood test results now x Hope all you ladies and bumps are good xx

leezel - 37 days ago
I wish I could feel my baby already, i thought i did almost a week ago but idk. Just hate feeling like crap but wondering if everything is ok and still moving forward. have my 1st trimester scan next Thursday :)

brookebaby3 - 37 days ago
Beee- A blighted ovum is an empty uterus that thinks is still pregnant so it can continue to grow. There would be no baby to measure if that was the case. Did they see a baby? Or did they see a gestational sack measuring 5 weeks? Was there a heartbeat? I hope he was wrong and everything works out!!

ali*l - 37 days ago
Milkyway- I know right? LOL I had about two cups of oatmeal yesterday for bfast, peanut butter toast for a snack, bagel with about 4 tbsp of cream cheese with some watermelon and strawberries for lunch, a fiber and protein bar for a snack, a ribeye with Mac and cheese and broccoli for dinner and ice cream for dessert. I was at about 2400 for the day! How could I do 1100 MORE?? LOL

milkyway - 37 days ago
Ali, 3500 calories?!!!! Omg! That will be fun for you!

milkyway - 37 days ago
Oh Beee :( my only experience of this is when I had my missed miscarriage. At 11 weeks my baby was measuring 7 weeks with no heartbeat. In my heart i knew that pregnancy was over very early, but because of no bleeding my body was fooled. how are you feeling? what are your instincts telling you? Personally I would still try to remain positive because at 5 weeks the embryo isn't formed yet so there would be no heartbeat. You may have ovulated later than you thought. There was a woman on here a few weeks ago (I think she's a week behind us) who had a scan done where the sonographers were inexperienced and gave her bad news, then she went and got another scan done and the baby was measuring fine. I'm so sorry you're going through this we're all here for you x

ali*l - 37 days ago
Beee- I wish I had some advice. I'd be a mess too. Hope it's just a screw up.

Beee - 37 days ago
Hey Ladies am in a serious mess. Was to be 10weeks today but started noticing spoting two days ago which I posted her but today jst went for U/S and what am hearing is terifying that the bady is 5weeks and 4days how is that possible when my LMP was 30 jan. The doctor said I might have a blighted ovum that I should repeat the U/S in 2wks time.pls want to know is it possible that I can get a good news in 2weeks time........... Hv been crying all through.

ali*l - 37 days ago
Morning, ladies! It has been raining all week! Still feeling pretty good. Just want to lay around, eat, play on the iPad, and read! Haha! I just got a book yesterday 'When you're expecting twins, triplets, or quads'. The author is a professor at MSU which is about 10 minutes from my house. Pretty cool. She has done several studies on twin and multiple pregnancies. Most of the book is about making sure you get enough calories. For twins, at my BMI, I should be eating 3,500 calories a day. I'm pretty sure I'm not even close to that!

milkyway - 38 days ago
Girlfromab, I got headaches in my first pregnancy and they were horrible! It might be blocked sinuses, you could try taking in steam and see if it helps. Also drinking loads of water and keeping hydrated used to keep the headaches away.

milkyway - 38 days ago
Morgan, yes I get really tired showering too. My ŵhole body gets heavy and i feel really thirsty so when I get out I lay down for a bit. I try to shower at night so I can just go straight to bed after.

girl from ab (erin) - 38 days ago
Morgan- I had a period of about two weeks were I would throw up in the shower from the heat and stuffiness :/ i dreaded it but its getting better

morgan.young92@gmail.com - 38 days ago
Question. Do showers make any of y'all feel exhausted or like your going to pass out?

morgan.young92@gmail.com - 38 days ago
I keep hoping my m/s will go away in the next couple of weeks. I haven't had to really deal with the headachs though. For me it's smells. I swear my sence of smell has gotten 100% better and it'si awful lol. I actually had to quit my part time job because when the customers came in the perfumes or smoke smells would make me have to run to the bathroom because I would get sick. I hope that the morning sickness is over soon for all of you lovely ladies too!

girl from ab (erin) - 38 days ago
Milkyway- im the same, i retch every morning when I wake up but so far the vomiting has subsided. But the headaches are on full force :(

lawkcb2012 - 39 days ago
Where do you guys get your maternity clothes? They're so expensive!!

milkyway - 39 days ago
Hello week 10! Can't believe I've made it this far again! I met my midwife yesterday for the first time and have my dating scan booked for 12 weeks. On Monday I had my scan and baby was measuring 260mm. So amazing. Also....touch wood....I haven't had any morning sickness for about 3 days now. I'm still retching randomly but the actual vomiting has subsided so hopefully that's the end of that. I will be so annoyed if it comes back in later pregnancy! Hope everyone else is well!

1911naomi - 39 days ago
I am sooooo sick. I have rest of week off work sick. Didn't think my nausea tablets were working Maxalon) but I haven't had any today and I'm worse. Stomachs is just churning. Vomiting us not the worse bit. Hopefully this is my last week of sickness.

leezel - 39 days ago
I wish I had no m/s. Lol I am weak everyday. Maybe my iron levels to headaches to nausea grr!! Wishing it will end

mrsjdwilliams - 39 days ago
Today I am off to 11 weeks, see you all there. Today makes day 3 of no m/s...i am VERY thankful for that! We took professional family portraits on Sunday and we did a 'pregnancy reveal' and posted it on FB to make our big announcement yesterday. I have to have u/s every 3 weeks and have my next one on my bday the 22nd. I will be one day shy of 13 weeks...especially since my husband will be gone i am hoping an early sex guess will be my bday present :) Has anyone found out early?

girl from ab (erin) - 39 days ago
Well i think m/s is on its way out. I should be 11 weeks on wednesday. I am now getting headaches pretty often and still pretty emotional/ moody. I see my doctor in 3 weeks. And a long 3 weeks it will be :( on another note, i've decided to start making smoothies, to ensure I am getting extra nutrients :)

rebcatken - 39 days ago
Week 10! Yay! as far as maternity clothes go, I got most of my clothes from Target. they have cute and cheap stuff, plus an online store if you dont have a target nearby. i also got some at amazon.com and old navy. The old navy near me has a small maternity section, but you can get a lot more online. Also, motherhood maternity, they have inexpensive stuff, but more pricey things too.

ali*l - 39 days ago
We have announced to the world. :) Our almost 4 yo is excited but DD is only 21 months and still very much a baby. Another 2 weeks and I've got another ultrasound!! Yay!!!

girl from ab (erin) - 40 days ago

He also asks my mom and sister if they too have babies in their tummies lol. I've announced to family, friends and facebook since I Am feeling pretty good having the ultrasound done

leezel - 40 days ago
