Born & Birth stories

Your baby continues to grow and is now approximately the size of a large lime! The crown-to-rump length of your developing child is 1.75 to 2.4 inches. The weight of the fetus is approximately 8 grams at this point. The growth of your baby is phenomenal now and your baby's length will double in the next three weeks. The head is grossly out of proportion and is almost half of the baby's length.

You are almost at the end of your first trimester and while changes continue to occur quickly in your baby, they are happening at a slower rate in you. Your uterus has been growing with the fetus inside of it and is now almost big enough to fill your pelvis. Your uterus may be able to be felt in your lower abdomen, above the middle of your pubic bone. You are not able to feel the baby moving inside of you at this time. Some women think that they have felt their baby moving now, but it is either gas or a wrongly dated pregnancy. You might also be noticing changes in your hair, fingernails, or skin around this time. Some women notice an increase in hair growth and nail growth during pregnancy and others lose small amounts of hair. You are burning up calories at a faster rate than you did before you became pregnant! The amount of blood being pumped around your body will increase and you might feel warmer than usual.

This is the last week of the embryonic period. From now on, your baby will be called a fetus. Your baby's fingernails appear this week! External genitalia are beginning to show distinguishing features and the development of male or female will be complete in three weeks. The placenta's blood vessels increase to provide your baby with the nutrients and oxygen he needs for continued growth. Your baby's ears are gradually moving from the neck towards the sides of his head. Inside of your baby's abdomen, the intestines are developing. Because the intestines are so large, some of them project into the umbilical cord and they will return to the abdomen within the next week or two.

At the size of a plumb, your baby is now able to swallow. The urinary system functions. The baby swallows and urinates the amniotic fluid and the fluid is continually replaced. The baby is kicking but the mother cannot feel it yet. All vital organs are formed and, for the most part, function normally. From now on, they will grow in size and efficiency.

As a preparation for breastfeeding, your baby now has learned to swallow. Babies swallow amniotic fluid in the uterus.

Hello week 11! I am actually 11 wks 1 day. Week 12 will be on Thanksgiving...Thanksgiving this year is going to be great! I have a lot to be thankful for. My Dr thought my due date was June 2nd and when I went in for my 10 week check up turned out I was only 8 weeks and my due date changed to June 10th. I almost cried because my dear uncle Mike passed away in March, he was the greatest, and his birthday is June 12th. Uncle Mike is the best angel!!! If I have a boy his name will definitely be Micah. =)

sunbelle - 4.6 hours ago
Had my N/T ultrasound today. It was AMAZING!!! We could see the hands and the feet, and the little one was moving around like crazy! Doc said everything looked perfect but the official results won't be in for another week or so. Our little bean is measuring just over 2 inches and is right on track:)

@AmyandEric & jeskasapp: We purchased a Doppler last week and have only been able to find the HB a few times. It can be hard to find the HB this early, as the baby is still really small. It also depends on the type of Doppler being used. Some are very sensitive and very expensive, like the some doctors have. Others are not as sensitive and you need to be at least 12 weeks to be able to hear the HB. So it may take a couple more weeks to be able to hear the HB. Jeskasapp, we had the opposite problem. We were able to find Bean’s HB with ours the night before our appointment, but the Dr. wasn’t able to hear it at our appointment. It's just a hide-in-go-seek game right now. :)

AmyandEric - 6.9 hours ago
Jeskasapp - oh thank you!! You can imagine the thoughts running through my head, I haven't been able to sleep at all b/c I'm a nervous wreck - thanks for putting my mind at ease :)

jeskasapp - 7 hours ago
amyanderic- Ive heard my babies heartbeat on that but only when a doctor does it, My friend bought the doppler when she was pregnant so i use it a little & i cant find it for the life of me & neither can she but as soon as i go to the doc. she can find it in min. I guess they just know the right angles & stuff.

AmyandEric - 7.5 hours ago
Ladies - I got my fetal doppler 2 days ago and my husband and I are still unable to hear the hb! My husband thinks I got a flimsy doppler and he doesnt think it even works, but I am freaking out!! Has anyone else not been able to get a hb on that thing?? I have my NT testing on Monday and I am so scared to go now :( Modelimited - get as much rest as you can and I am sure the baby is just fine!!! You heard the hb and the doctor is not worried, all great stuff!! :)

modelimited - 8.9 hours ago
I'm home today with my feet up. Had some bleeding last night and cramping. Doc said I should be ok. We've already heard the heartbeat and she said that's a good sign. Freaked me out a little but so far nothing this morning.

terriann20 - 11.3 hours ago

Quiver Full - 14.9 hours ago

slibby - 22.1 hours ago
I am getting the NT u/s on Monday. NT stands for nuchal translucency (if you want to ask your doc for it). It tests for downs syndrome but also other genetic abnormalities. It doesn't tell you 100% either way, but does tell you your chances of having a baby with a genetic problem. I am just excited to be able to see my little bean again. I will post pictures on my profile on Monday!!!

marinewifemommy - 23.9 hours ago
ambersfirstbaby... So I called my dr and asked them about the NT testing and bloodwork and they didnt know what I was talking about so I told them its where they test for down syndrome and do an ultrasond and she said they dont do that til the 28th week and they dont do an ultrasound for it just blood work testing or something. I want them to do another ultrasound (mainly cuz I am high risk pregnancy and want to see my baby every chance I get) plus the chance of possibly being able to find the sex cuz I will be nearly 14 weeks at my next appt. Anyways, they just didnt know what in the world I was talking about.

ambersfirstbaby - 1 days ago
ms.kelly- NT testing is an ultrasound and blood work... it's to test for downs syndrome. We decided to do the testing just to see the baby, and because they told us we might be able to find out the sex early!=) Well I wish there was a way to show you the pic (I can email if it you want) ...basically the genitalia are still developing, but if its going straight up its a boy and if it goes more sideways its a girl... it's not DEFINITE ...but they said it's pretty accurate when you get a clear pic of the baby and we did!

wendy28 - 1 days ago
picked up my daughter early from daycare with a fever. This is the first time she have been sick since I have been pregnant. Man I hope I don't get what she has. Going to the doctor at 5:00

KylinnsMommy - 1 days ago
Hi ladies, I am from week 9 and just wanted to post about the h1n1 shot. I got mine 2 weeks ago only because a friend of mine got sick over the summer at about 33-34 weeks pregnant. well it got bad...REALLY bad and she literally almost died. She ended up in a coma for 2 1/2 weeks. Luckily she and the baby both pulled through, but with a daughter at home and another baby on the way, I just don't want to risk it, so I got the shot. Anyway, just a personal opinion.

ms.kelly - 1 days ago
Hello week 11. Hope everyone is feeling good. As for me the m/s is still going strong. 'AMBERSFIRSTBABY' what is a NT U/s and isn't it to early to know the sex?

modelimited - 1 days ago
OMG OMG!!!! M/S sufferers listen up! I just got back from my doc. I had to call because I was SO sick. Not throwing up but I just felt like a truck hit me. Almost felt like the flu. They got this new device in their office. It looks just like a watch! It sends pulses to your brain into your stomach and relives sickness! It's called PrimaBella. It's drug free and has zero side effects! You wear it almost like a motion sickness braclet...anytime you need it. I was in the office for 10min and feel so great STILL! I was there over two hours ago! I managed to eat an entire sandwich and a bag of chips for lunch....AND drink water!!! I haven't been able to eat anything but toast in days! I feel awesome! Hopefully the company will contact me today so I can order one. It's $200 but most insurances cover the cost so it will be free!!! I'll then overnight it so that's a fee but SO worth it! I feel better than I have in weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 10 weeks pregnant, but love to read a week ahead to see how everyone is feeling. It is so good to see people commenting about H1N1, my family too has not decided to get the shot, back in the 50s pregnant woman were given a shot, and the outcome for a lot of babies were that they were born with missing limbs or the children came out infertile... it really makes me nervous to think that I am put in a position to either catch h1n1 or harm my baby. My mother on the other hand is an H1N1 advocate, she gets to upset with us because she feels that we are putting our 4 yr old at risk. I just pray that we will be safe.

mtrue85 - 1 days ago
I enter 11 weeks today... at my ultrasound Tuesday I was measuring 10 weeks 2 days when I am 10 weeks 5 due to my LMP...OB is keeping me at June 10th since they are so close, so I am 11 weeks according to her today....and if I go by ultrasound it will be Wednesday....so somewhere in between but 11 weeks here I am! I was having horrible nausea that seems to be letting up a bit but is still there...and still ahving trouble wanting to eat....and feeling exhausted. I want to get more protein in to help with this, it is just so hard....

modelimited - 1 days ago
dad - I was craving cheese and potatoes as well. Had my fill though and now they make me sick! I don't know what's going on with my body but I just feel downright HORRIBLE! Not pukey feeling...more like I just got hit by a truck! I'm exhausted but not sleepy and feel like I weight a ton! I can barely get off the couch when I get home from work and have only been able to eat toast. Everything else feels so heavy.I'm very sad today too. So tired of fighting with the finance over stupid things! I know it's my fault because of the hormones but it's frustrating needless to say.

Jenny-May - 1 days ago
I am being tested for all sorts at the moment as they have discovered that I have really high calcium levels. Was just wondering if any of you know much about this? I heard the other day that my baby could be born with a mouth full of teeth?!? Is that true? xx

MILITARY~MOMMY - 2 days ago

Hello week 11, Today i saw the midwife and i heard my beans HB it was stronge. I was and am so happy and releived i heard it. I was really stressing due to all the cramping i was having, which i didnt have with my first, but she put my mind as ease and said its normal for the second come as everthing is streached already so is now moving and is moving earlier. I have also had spotting now and then which she said is normal too. I almost started crying when i heard my bean. Hope all you ladies and gents are doing well.

dadtobe2010 - 2 days ago
Hello Week 11!!! This evening upon getting home from work, we used the Doppler again. After not hearing it on Monday and the Dr. not able to find yesterday at our appointment, we were a little nervous. However, we were able to hear bean's HB this today. We really do love having a Doppler, it just so reassuring to hear bean's HB. Esp. when you get nervous about something and fear starts to set in. My Wife wanted me to let everyone know that she is starting to Crave cheese and bake potatoes. Anyone else craving those things? Also she has had a lot of bad heart burn. We read some place that means bean will have a full head of hair at birth, so we'll see. Hope everyone is doing well.

sunbelle - 2 days ago
Jamie - I haven't seen any bulging veins or anything, but I have noticed that I am covered in bruises and broken blood vessels. I think it's most likely due to the increase in blood volume. I look like a battered wife.

JamieGarcia - 2 days ago
Thwe wierdest thing happened last night........I had what looked like a huge, hard, sensative/painful varicose vein on the outside of my calf. I couldn't walk or anything without being in pain. This morning I woke up pain free but with a huge apple sized dark black bruise in it's place. It looks like the vein just exploded! Has anyone heard of this?

BabyMartinez - 2 days ago
I just joined today. I am 11 wks 4 days. This is my second preg and very excited. I had U/S 2 wks ago and everything looked great and hb was 160

glamour313....I too am not going to be getting the H1N1 Shot, my Dr. office called me yesterday to inform me that it was available....but something just doesnt feel right about it? Just afraid that 5 to 10 yrs from now something is going come up and they are going to blame it all on those H1N1 shots. Just going to try my hardest to stay safe and healthy. Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Best of luck to you!

glamour313 - 2 days ago
krickan- lol yes this is something I deal with. Its moreso one nipple always at attention rather both of em so its extra funny(hurts tho) H1N1- about 2 weeks ago I was all for it. Now im not going to get it. Not giving it to my 15month old son either. His doctor doesnt recommend it cause he said he doesnt know the long term out come of the shot and is not going to tell me thing will be fine.

krickan - 2 days ago
Week 11 today! Have discovered that my only 'real' way of telling that I am pregnant is that my pants no longer fit, bought a Bella Band and that has seemed to remedy the problem (just not ready to wear pregger pants yet)/ I also have a question? Does anyone else currently have problems with their nipples always being erect. Mine are ALWAYS erect, they never go down, and it is a bit embarrasing as well as uncomfortable, of course my husband thinks its great, but just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if so any suggestions to remedy not poking peoples eyes out!?

I hate it when vomit comes out my nose.

modelimited - 2 days ago
Amy - That's another thing!!! I got so stressed out at work yesterday that I got real bad cramps late last night. I'm just freaked I guess. Maybe because this is my last pregnancy I'm just overly concerned?

AmyandEric - 2 days ago
modelimited my dear you are NOT alone I'm right there with you! I have zero symptoms; no nausea, no breast tenderness, no tiredness, nothing! I keep on asking my OB if this is normal and she insists I'm jsut one of the lucky ones. I kind of wish I had something though to give me a sign that I'm pregnant, because I dont feel prego at all. I have had a mc in June so you can imagine how freaked out I am. I have been having some cramps but my OB says its just ligaments and uterus stretching. Ladies - I received my fetal doppler yesterday and my hubby and I tried for about 10 mins with no luck and finally gave up, could not hear a heartbeat - should I worry or is it just too early?? help!!

ambersfirstbaby - 2 days ago
DH and I decided not to get the H1N1 and then my last doctors appointment changed my mind. They had just lost 2 OB patients that week alone from H1N1 and so they got the H1N1 w/o mercury and vaccinated every one of their patients that would take it. My doctor and the nurses all insisted that it was safe to take. I hope I made the right decision. After reading some posts I am a bit scared!

mommi3for3v3r - 2 days ago
It is sooo uncomfortable to sleep or lay on my right side its like I can't lay on it for too long or else I get this weird feeling. Not pain a different feeling I can't really explain is anyone else feeling this too on their right side?

modelimited - 2 days ago
I feel so alone! All you women are feeling something - m/s, headaches, dreams, etc. I'm 11 weeks and don't feel much of anything!!! I throw up here and there but I don't feel sick first. I just puke! I asked my doc at my last app if I was still pregnant. She listened for the heartbeat and there it was beating away but I don't feel like I'm pregnant! Or maybe I don't feel 11 weeks pregnant! Maybe I'm not as far along as the u/s thought? Or my hcg levels indicated? I don't know what to think! About the H1N1....this is all I'm saying. I talked to my doc about it last week. She said ANYTHING in the first trimester is unsafe. She also said the H1N1 pamphlet that comes with the vaccine says in black and white that it is UNSAFE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN AND BABIES! I didn't want the shot to begin with but now I can feel at ease that I've made the right decision. She even said alot of the people who have died from H1N1 had other conditions prior to getting sick. I'm sorry but anything the gov has their hands in I have to question. Again, this is ALL I'm saying about H1N1. I'm not on here to fight (deal with enough of that at work)! I just want to share my experience and opinion....like everyone else.

sunbelle~ Have you tried caffine? Weird I know, but caffine and tylenol is what I was told to take for migraines last time around and it works.
