At this point of your pregnancy, your baby is approximately 4.3 to 4.6 inches long and weighs 2.8 ounces. Not only is your baby growing, your uterus and placenta continue to grow to accommodate the growing baby inside of you! Just six weeks ago, your uterus weighed about 5 ounces. This week it now weighs 8.75 ounces! The amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby is increasing and there is about 7.5 ounces of fluid. You will easily be able to feel your uterus approximately three inches below your navel.
This is an important week for testing and you will most likely have an AFP test done. This is a harmless blood test that is done to detect abnormalities such as Down's syndrome or spina bifida. This is a non-invasive test and it carries no risk to your developing baby. Most doctors will offer the test, but in most cases it is completely optional.
Your milk glands start production at this time and this causes some tenderness and swelling in early pregnancy. Your veins will become more visible because there is an increased amount of blood flowing to the breasts.
Five and a half inches tall and only six ounces in weight. The child can grasp with his hands,
kick, or even somersault.
At this time, your baby is holding her head erect. Because her muscles are developing, she can make some faces now. Your baby is able to squint, frown and open its mouth. There is enough calcium in the bones that they will show up on an x-ray. Your baby's fingernails are well formed now and the legs are longer than the arms. Because your baby is moving well now, you may begin to feel his movements! Some women say that the early movements feel like gas bubbles or a slight flutter. If you have not yet felt the baby move, don't worry. Fetal movements are usually felt between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy.
You may feel your heart beating 'louder'. This is because there is a lot more blood in your body than normal. (about 20-25% more)

I haven't felt the baby move yet either. And also about the not showing, I'm 5'4 and started at 100lbs and I've only gained 5lbs since and I don't feel like I'm showing either. My pants size did change but when your skinny like me, 5lbs isn't nothing and it makes me sad. I want to show! And when I do bloat from all the eating I just feel fat haha.liznzad1 -

Thank you all so much for your support, Yesterday I had the laptop on my lap and was typing away and every so often I would bump into my stomach and all of a sudden something started bumping back. I was so excited I told my husband and all he said was 'Hum' and kept watching T.V., I cried all night and felt the baby move more than ever which made me cry some more because I kept thinking I was making the baby suffer. Today I feel better, it feels good to know somewhere theres someone who understands, I love you ladies!!Allecia73 -

Has anyone had a 3D/4D sonogram yet? I am thinking of having one at 19 weeks to tell the baby's gender and so that my whole family can be there this time when we find out. I get a regular 2D sonogram the following week but they don't really encourage your 'whole' family to be there and it's only in 2D. My Aunt is paying for the 3D so it won't cost me but am I just being silly? JAMIELIN -

Hi everyone, I have a really dumb question but it has been 6 years since I had my son those of you have felt your baby moving around, has it been low, high or in the middle of your stomach...because every once in a while I get this weird fluttering way up high and I dont think it is the baby but it happens quite a bit...just wondering if any of you have had this or I am just weird ;0)Allecia73 -

Heading off to week 17 tomorrow. So far so good that the doctor hasn't called regarding my Quad screening test for Downs ... I gave up my blood last Thursday and I was told if they haven't called by today, then I should think of myself as being in the clear ... Hope they haven't called and I've just missed the message. : )mynameisellie -

Violetts, yes. My husband read me that story last night about the freaked-up names. I could think of a few things that should happen to those parents, but it sounds like they're high all the time, so they wouldn't care or notice. redrose -

have a doc appt today and get to hear the heart beat. I get so nervous before my appointments before you can feel the baby cause feeling him/her move is just soooo reassuring! can't wait till u/s at 19 weeks so we'll know what he/she is! I also get scared at 16 weeks cause with my daughter they couldn't find her heart beat so they rushed me in to an u/s and she was ok just wanted to give me a gray hair I guess! hope this one lets us have a listen!mom-me -

Did any one else hear about the family in New Zealand that names their daughter...Talula does the hula in Hawaii. I'm not joking she's like 9 now and she had to petition the court to get it changed because her parents wouldn't do it for her. What is wrong with people? Violetts -

Safira~ OMG with my first son I had this exact same problem. I was told the baby was laying on my siatic (sp) nerve and you just have to wait for the baby to reposition s/he self. It will get easier but it can take awhile. It's pretty normal though. I didn't have it with my secong son and I'm praying I don't have that problem with my 3rd. It is so painful. safira -

I didn't know where to share or even IF to share this at all. I am suffering from depression but haven't had a problem before I don't know if im just being emotional and if I am what about. I feel this sadness I can't explain and just feel like bawling please don't take this as anything against this pregnancy I am so happy to be pregnant and so eager to meet my little one I just can't seem to get over it and nobody knows because I don't want anyone to think im unhappy about the baby.liznzad1 -

Don't worry it isn't just you im 5'6 and 150 and still not showing, I have a tiny bump but I kept my pants from when I was a little bigger and now you can't see anything. I can't wait until people can tell. I know when we get there we'll enjoy it for a couple of months and then we'll end up complaining to each other how tired we are of wearing this maternity clothes lollisaandandrew -

Is it possible to drink too much ensure? I know that certain vitamins, like iron, if taken too much can cause harm, and since ensure has vitamins in it plus our prenatal pills, I'm a little worried.naomi88 -

Ok so my dog has this annoying habit of chewing up any underwear or shorts of mine that she finds. I am so mad because I barely have any clothes that fit as it is and now there goes one less pair of shorts. I freaked when I saw her chewing them up! I am just so frustrated because I don't have the money to keep buying maternity shorts. It's m fault for leaving my laundry basket where my dog can get it, but I am still pist!!! twinbabiesjanuary -

I am a little worried I have had a bleeding nose on and off for months but the last 3 days every morning straight. It is not pouring out just that my nose id stuffy and I have to blow and then the blood comes out. I read it is normal but could be signs of high blood pressure or vitamin c deficiency? Anyone have any answers I don't see the doc till the 29th. I will be 16 weeks tomorrow.Allecia73 -

I've only had to potty train a boy but he was pretty easy. We have a very private backyard and I am a gardener so when I'd go in the backyard I would take all his clothes off and he'd eventually have to pee so he found it fun to 'pee on the bushes'. My Mother-In-Law trained her 2 boys this way so I thought I'd try. When we were inside I would drop a Cheerio in the toilet and he thought it was fun to pee on the Cheerio - so it was done! When it came time for #2 he was just starting a Child Learning Center (he just turned 3) and the first week he was totally potty trained - I guess from wanting to do what the other kids did and being a big boy, etc. From then on we switched to underware and that was it. Even now (almost 5 years old) I still tell him to go to the potty and try to pee especially if we're out at the mall or something. Sometimes I will turn on the water in the sink and it makes him go.liznzad1 -

I should probably clarify, I posted yesterday that i'll be having my baby Dec. 19th by c-section and that my doctor doesn't do natural births. what I meant was she doesn't do VBAC's, i've had 2 previous c-sections the good thing is my first 2 were normal.cheilman -

I think that I am going to be having a girl this time, things early on were different then when I was prego with my son, but I would still be happy with another boy because my sister and brother have girls.
My 2 1/2 year old has no interest in potty training, I had him sitting on the toilet this morning and he just kept farting but he thought it was funny but he still has yet to go.
Oh yeah I went to the county fair yesterday and I had a pork chop it was great, we are going to another fair this weekend hopefully they will have them there also or I will have to wait till the state fair and have a pork chop on a stick.Allecia73 -

I have a feeling that I am having another boy but it might be because I want my son to have a brother. I want a girl too so hopefully I will have one of both before I turn 40!!! The heartbeat at my last appt. said 150 so by old wives tales that would be a girl - right? And the nestbaby.com says it's a girl....hmmm. I want to go have an elective sonogram soon because my next sonogram isn't until after Aug. 13th and I'm dying to know!cheilman -
