At this point of your pregnancy, your baby is approximately 4.3 to 4.6 inches long and weighs 2.8 ounces. Not only is your baby growing, your uterus and placenta continue to grow to accommodate the growing baby inside of you! Just six weeks ago, your uterus weighed about 5 ounces. This week it now weighs 8.75 ounces! The amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby is increasing and there is about 7.5 ounces of fluid. You will easily be able to feel your uterus approximately three inches below your navel.
This is an important week for testing and you will most likely have an AFP test done. This is a harmless blood test that is done to detect abnormalities such as Down's syndrome or spina bifida. This is a non-invasive test and it carries no risk to your developing baby. Most doctors will offer the test, but in most cases it is completely optional.
Your milk glands start production at this time and this causes some tenderness and swelling in early pregnancy. Your veins will become more visible because there is an increased amount of blood flowing to the breasts.
Five and a half inches tall and only six ounces in weight. The child can grasp with his hands, kick, or even somersault.
At this time, your baby is holding her head erect. Because her muscles are developing, she can make some faces now. Your baby is able to squint, frown and open its mouth. There is enough calcium in the bones that they will show up on an x-ray. Your baby's fingernails are well formed now and the legs are longer than the arms. Because your baby is moving well now, you may begin to feel his movements! Some women say that the early movements feel like gas bubbles or a slight flutter. If you have not yet felt the baby move, don't worry. Fetal movements are usually felt between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy.
You may feel your heart beating 'louder'. This is because there is a lot more blood in your body than normal. (about 20-25% more)

We've used cloth diapers on both our babies and plan to do again for this kiddo. I like pre folds and cute covers the best, because they are easiest and cheapest to wash and dry- we spent about 250 for both boys over the last 2 1/2 years at Greenmountaindiaper.com. I also make my own diaper detergent so it's dirt cheap and really cleans. (my boys are 12 months apart, and this baby will make it 3 under 3 for me!)
However, I just want to throw out there, it's not advised to use cloth until after the umbilical cord has healed, and/or after the circumcision (should you choose to circumcise your son) has healed as well. The disposables will be less irritating (especially if you get those pampers ones with the cut outs for newborn cords) and keep both drier.

Anyone having trouble sleeping? My fear is that for the rest of the pregnancy I will only get naps in my sofa. The bed just seems to be most uncomfortable and I spend the whole night tossing and turning. I was taking Unisom and B6 for morning sickness but has stopped and so has regular sleep. Its crazy to think I have 24 more weeks of this. Is anyone else experiencing this?
tink21 - 23.1 hours ago
Malenasmommie, I plan to use cloth diapers as well but I'm gonna make them myself. There's some really useful videos on YouTube on how to make them and I can't wait to try them ;) good luck!!!!
malenasmommie - 23.3 hours ago
Thank you Millie and Kanojoca!! I can't decide what to do. The twins are due in July but we also have a one year old who will still be in diapers so I was just thinking it could be a lot cheaper. Thank you for sharing!!
kanojoca - 1 days ago
oh we used disposibles at night time though! they do keep them dryer and make them sleep longer!
kanojoca - 1 days ago
Melena...we used cloth nappies, but they were the bamboo nappies that were already pre folded. It worked great! However we did only use them for the first 8 mths..then we gave up cause the poop was getting annoying. Use Tea tree oil in water to pre-soak them, it is an antibacterial, it's cheap and you only need a few drops for a bucket for the day, that helps prevent them from staining and baby will be due in the summer anyways, so you can hang them out to dry!!!! But they do save you a lot of money, we worked out that we saved abourt 1500 dollars!
millie79 - 1 days ago
malenasmommie, i tried cloth nappies with my first baby, and found it to be just as costly as buying disposable, all the washing powder, stuff to soak them in, all the water and electricity. And the time it takes for washing, drying, folding when you could be spending that extra time on more important stuff like snuggling your little ones :D ...plus baby stays drier with disposables. ... so, for me, disposables win :)

Has anyone tried cloth diapers?? I am considering it. We have a lot of disposable ones in the storage shed now but we have a one year old and are expecting twins. The idea of buying Pampers for THREE scares me a bit. That just seems like a small college fund right there! I heard from onother twin mom that she loves cloth diapers. I am seriously debating but have no idea where to start with it. If you tried it, could you let me know how it went and what brand you tried? THANKS!!

njsa - I am in the same boat as you. I am pregnant with my 2nd, and think (not 100% sure) that I felt the baby move on Sunday for the first time, and once today, but that has been it. I remember with my first that once the movement started, it was relatively consistent, but we are also not that far along yet, so I don't think it is necessarily supposed to be consistent yet. Hopefully soon we will start to feel our little ones more often! It will be so much more reassuring!
brittanysbabyinjuly - 4 days ago
tishlamp that is soooo wonderful congrats!! im so happy for you... lol with all the girls popping up maybe some of should have boys to even things out lol!!

Found out today that I'm having a girl!!!!! I already have a 8year old girl and a 17 month old boy. My. Older daughter is so excited.
csa.wadkins1864@gmail.com - 4 days ago
NJSA: When I first started feeling movement, it was sporadic. I had to be sitting perfectly still and in a certain position. The movement increased in frequency, but only felt when I was still. Even now (and I've been feeling my little one for about 2-3 weeks), I have to be sitting or laying down. He/she isn't big enough to affect me when I'm busy or walking. Sometimes, I get a kick or nudge when I'm standing...but again, I have to be still. Don't worry. If you are concerned, purchase or rent a fetal dopplar. It is very reassuring in these beginning stages to listen to that heartbeat when you can't feel what's going on with your little one. Hang in there. :-)

Brittany I say boy as well. My mega craving was oranges and fruity ice lollies with Cameron my 11 month old. This time I can't get enough salt! Salt and vinegar everything. I'm also drinking loads of fruit juice and just eating tons in general. I'm not showing at all yet this time and by 14 weeks with my boy I was very obviously pregnant which is surprising as I'm about 40lbs lighter than when I got pregnant with him. I'm convinced this will be another boy but I'm not finding out, was too exciting getting a surprise the last time :)

First day in week 16! I'm barely even showing though and its driving me crazy! Anyone else having this isuue? I can feel my uterus and can tell that it has grown, and I have a doppler, Hr is always around 150-160 so i'm sure everything is fine. This is my second child so I thought I would show sooner.
katkatkat - 7 days ago
Hi all, first day in week 16, so happy! Good luck to all who want to find out sex! I am going to the docs on Thursday, but haven't decided if I want to find out sex. I didn't with the first one, but was 100% sure about it anyway. I think the shape of the belly is only visible later on, no guesses yet.
I was not sick for about 2 weeks but it started again, it's back on every second day but without nausea. I prefer this version.
Oh yes, and I couldn't eat chocholate or any sweets with my son, but I am quite happy eating all this now. I wonder if it means anything...
csa.wadkins1864@gmail.com - 7 days ago
Hello 16 weeks. Its hard to believe that we are already at 16 weeks. Time has gone by so fast. Still getting a little sick now and then, but I've noticed that it only comes when I'm really tired or hungry. As long as I get plenty of rest and eat small meals during the day, the sickness has gone away. Firday we have an ultrasound, so hopefully we will learn what sex the baby is. Counting down the minutes and very excited. Baby moves often in my belly and it makes me laugh to feel him jumping and moving about. His/her little bubbles and flutters are much stonger than when they first started. I can now feel them when I'm standing or moving about, and not just sitting still. One happy momma here. Hope all is well with everyone.

Brittany I say boy. I was like that with my son. Very healthy. With Kori, I eat a lot of junk....but so far I'm also carrying her low and hidden. So we'll see if she ends up poppin up and out by the end of all of this!
