At this point of your pregnancy, your baby is approximately 4.3 to 4.6 inches long and weighs 2.8 ounces. Not only is your baby growing, your uterus and placenta continue to grow to accommodate the growing baby inside of you! Just six weeks ago, your uterus weighed about 5 ounces. This week it now weighs 8.75 ounces! The amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby is increasing and there is about 7.5 ounces of fluid. You will easily be able to feel your uterus approximately three inches below your navel.
This is an important week for testing and you will most likely have an AFP test done. This is a harmless blood test that is done to detect abnormalities such as Down's syndrome or spina bifida. This is a non-invasive test and it carries no risk to your developing baby. Most doctors will offer the test, but in most cases it is completely optional.
Your milk glands start production at this time and this causes some tenderness and swelling in early pregnancy. Your veins will become more visible because there is an increased amount of blood flowing to the breasts.
Five and a half inches tall and only six ounces in weight. The child can grasp with his hands, kick, or even somersault.
At this time, your baby is holding her head erect. Because her muscles are developing, she can make some faces now. Your baby is able to squint, frown and open its mouth. There is enough calcium in the bones that they will show up on an x-ray. Your baby's fingernails are well formed now and the legs are longer than the arms. Because your baby is moving well now, you may begin to feel his movements! Some women say that the early movements feel like gas bubbles or a slight flutter. If you have not yet felt the baby move, don't worry. Fetal movements are usually felt between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy.
You may feel your heart beating 'louder'. This is because there is a lot more blood in your body than normal. (about 20-25% more)

sassylu-
You love your baby and things will work themselves out. Dont get down- when your preggy EVERYTHING seems to be so much worse because of our hormones... If I can have a baby at 16 with nothing and make it into something so can anyone. Our little ones motivate us to work harder and to be an adult. You will even someday find a responsible Man to come into your life and find out how relationships are suppose to be... Pray Sassylu- AS long as we give our troubles to God and trust that he will handle them on his time.... HE WILL COME THROUGH for us...Always. You will have a WHOLE new outlook and perspective on life when your closer to your due date... unfortunately that is still a LONG way off.... but enough time to get a lot accomplished.

Well girls, I no we are all having a hard time with all kinds of different issues, but don't over look them, you know your body best even though it doen't fell like it right now. I have told you all befor about the horriable migraines I have been having, the med the doc gave me wasent helping, I finally got a apt today at the doc to tell him and during the visit they found 6 different infection in my body, Bladdder, UTI, yeast, ear and sinus all of this since the last visit 3 weks ago. So they are now taking the headach more serious realizing there is something worng with me, it's not just 'pregnant' and ' it's your hormones' I knew there was something wrong with me and they just kept saying it was normal...Now we are taking ssteps to find out what is really wrong...No one knows your body like you do, if you think there is a prob, be stern with your doc
Hoppe this finds everyone in good spirits and health

on the constipation note, I'm have the exact opposite problem. I got 2-3 times a day. I went a lot with my son too. I guess it's better that than be in pain. Sorry if it's tmi.

hardthistimearound : Many of us have had it hard this time around. I know it is hard and mind-boggling BUT hang in there. Keep your head high and think that all this will pass. WE are ALL here to listen. Not much more we can do but I think that when you have people that listen that alone is what we need most sometimes. My thoughts are with you and hope that things start to shape up for you in a more positive way...xoxo

kort- be sure to read the cream ingredients b4 using it... MY mom had some too for my brothers exema (sp?) and told me to try it on my dry patches on my hands but I read it and it has a steroid in it. I didn't think it would be safe for the baby. Just a thought :-) If my hands get worse I don't know what I'm going to do. They are so dry they are raw @ my wrists. Lotion doesn't help it just burns... Baby oil helps for a little bit but not long enough to make it worth it :-/
kort5410 - 5.2 hours ago
ashley-blesseddaily-I have little dry spots too, one on each shoulder but my skin often gets dry in the winter so I'm not too worried. But these spots are more round than any other shape I suppose and I have really only noticed them on my shoulders. I know my mom had to use a prescription cream on me when I was a kid because I got dry patches of skin but I'm not sure what it is or what causes it.

Helloooo Week 16!
Time is flying by- at least for me. So, what are you guys going to do once the baby is born? Are you going to be stay-at-home moms????
My mom was going to watch the baby... but my husband is contemplating a job change. I work in Boston and he is considering a job in Boston... I have a 1 1/2 commute now... If we move to Boston... that means that we will have to put our kid in daycare... and the average daycare cost there is $17,000!!! *GULP*

I always heard not to lay on your back either... I took a nap this afternoon and it was on my back & woke up w/ the most horrible pounding headache. Dunno if that's why or what but it's killing me :-/ On the up side in 1 day and 19 hrs we will know if we're having a Hannah or Jeremiah :-D
lisamomof5tobe - 23.2 hours ago
The question about laying on your back: I actually did some research cause I had always heard that. What I have found is that after 20 weeks you shouldn't lay on your back because it could put pressure on your aorta which supplies your oxygen. that is only for long periods of time 3-4 hours or more. But somthing like 20 minutes isn't going to do any damage unless you have medical issues that your dr./midwife would tell you. If you are having issues with laying on your sides try a body pillow, it helped me. Cause I am restless sleeper and want to sleep on my stomach, and back still.

Hello week 16 : ) Hope everyone is doing well. I kinda feel like we have reached yet another milestone, wow week 16, we are moving right along. I have felt baby a lot yesterday and some today, it is really exciting. I have felt baby below my belly button, but last night I was listening to the heartbeat with my doppler and baby's heartbeat was very low (almost hairline low)and then all the sudden I got a kick almost as high as my belly button....lol I think baby has long legs! I plan on posting my first belly picture this week, but want to take it first thing in the morning, seems the more I eat throughout the day the bigger my belly is. lol and I know it isn't baby! lol
colie500 - 1 days ago
So I have yet another emergency apointment tomorrow about the headaches, what they gave me is not working and I have a the same horriable one for 7 days now, on top of the yeast infection and I think I may have a bladder infection too. AHHHH, this baby is taking everything I have! When I was preg with my son I felt great the whole time, this is sooo different.

Thanks godkina, I'll definitely try that! :)
godkina - 1 days ago
Haleysmom: Try eating banana's for the restless leg thing. It seems to happen when you're low in potassium. I got it all the time with my 1st and I ate a banana every day (even though I hate banana's). It helped a lot!

looks like pregnancy has just finally taken over my emotions. I woke up knowing today was going 2 be a bad day. and so far this day has been bad in EVERY aspect. i have no control and i feel like i will never be good enough for anything ! ugh my day stinks.

I'm on my second child. With my first one I was much younger and the father was not around at all to support me. He eventually came around and is here for our second one. The issue is that I really resent him for that. Anyone else gone through this before?
haleysmommy - 1 days ago
It's so nice to read everyone's comments and be going through the same thing!! Thank goodness for you gals!! I am having a hard time getting comfy at night as well as I normally sleep on my stomache. Although can't since I am already as big as a basketball! I feel like I have restless leg syndrome when sitting at my desk at work, can never get my legs comfy no matter how I sit! I am getting soooo anxious to find out if baby is a boy or girl! I go in on December 2nd...but it seems like it's taking forever! I'm so glad that most of you are feeling so good, and some even good enough to open a bakery! :) I know this pregnancy is moving along fast, but at the same time feels like it's taking forever! I wasn't this impatient with my daughter (6 yrs old now), I wonder why I am with this one. Anyone else feel this way?
momof609 - 1 days ago
sassy- I agree with hupko... that happens to me if Im sitting down and jump up as if im not pregnant or bend a certain way to fast.... just another way your bodys reminding you to be more careful. You arent hurting baby though... I asked my drs a long time ago when I first started getting them in earlier pregnancies.
prettierworld - 1 days ago
is it november 30th yet? IN A WEEK AND A HALF I GET TO SEE MY BABY. my first ultrasound at 7 weeks was just a blob. i'm so anxious!! wooo, 4th baby and it still feels like the first one! :)
lisa-babyno1 - 1 days ago
godkina - thanks for the clarification...was starting to worry becuase i always sleep on my back lol :-)
godkina - 1 days ago
I asked my Dr about sleeping on your back. She said it's fine until it starts being uncomfortable. She said the worst that could happen is that your legs go numb. I'm thinking that would be a good time to stop.
