Your baby's weight has doubled in two weeks and now weighs about 3.5 ounces! The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches. If you spread your hand out opened wide, you can see about how big your baby is.
Your uterus is moving up and is now approximately 1.5 to 2 inches below your navel. You are showing more now and there is a noticeable swelling in your abdomen. At this point in your pregnancy, a 5 to 10 pound weight gain is normal. Other people can probably feel the difference in your lower abdomen if they were to rub your tummy. To be the most comfortable, you should be wearing maternity clothes or clothing that is too large for you. You may have felt your baby move already. However, you might not feel it move every day at this point. As your pregnancy progresses, movements become stronger and more frequent. Feeling your baby move can help reassure you that your baby is doing well. You might also notice that your gums or nose bleed occasionally. This is from the increased blood volume that puts pressure on small blood vessels and capillaries.
Huge changes continue to take place within your developing baby. This week fat begins to form and will continue to do so until he is born. Fat is important to the body's heat production and metabolism. Right now, at 17 weeks, water makes up about 3 ounces and fat 0.018 ounces of your baby's body. In a baby at term, fat makes up about 5.25 pounds of the total average weight of 7.7 pounds. The placenta is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. The placenta will continue to develop in tandem with the fetus and it will weigh more than a pound at birth! By this week, the placenta is large and well established with a network of blood vessels that exchange nutrients and waste.
The eyes are facing more forward. The ears are now close to their final position.
Your baby is more flexible with ability to move head, mouth, lips, arms, wrists, hands, legs, feet, and toes.

2tauruses~ My doctor I had didn't give me the nt even though I demanded it. I'm getting it bc my oldest daughter who is 9 has down syndrome it doesn't run in my family or anything it was the accidental kind. But my husband in the past month decided he wanted to know if baby had it bc he doesn't know if we could do it all again its been a rough road for her &us. I'm having a hard time with it all bc I don't know if I could really abort if it did have downs & I'm scared to death I will lose the baby bc of the amnio...its tomorrow &its all I can think about if I lose this baby me &my husband decided we would go ahead &get my tubes tied bc I can't go through anymore miscarriages. SO STRESSFULL!!!
Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 13 days ago
Cantwait- this will be one of those times you look back & laugh at yourself. It's good that you & your husband can be so good spirited about the 'fun parts' of pregnancy. Lol. if he anything like my husband I'll be hearing puking noises every time i.m near bologna for the next 10 years
2Tauruses - 13 days ago
Misty- Is there a reason why you decided to have an amino? Did your NT results come back high or something?
cantwaittobeamom - 13 days ago
So, this morning I'm up fixing my hubby his lunch for work! I go to make his bologna (gross) sandwich' I used to love fried bologna sandwiches but now, the thought of it is gross to me! I grabbed the pack out of the fridge and didn't even open yet, and pukes my gutttfs (didn't have any food in my stomach so it was that yummy liver bile) and in the process pee all over myself! ::sigh:: lovely way to start the day!!! Not that y'all wanted to know any of that! Now my husband is making fun of me by making his puke sounds while making his sandwich!

tinkerfairy - that's so funny about the Doppler - we have one too and I listen a few times a week and if I leave it in the same place to hear the heartbeat for more than a little bit, the baby starts moving around.. I kind of wonder how it affects them!
Bettys4thbaby - 13 days ago
Happy Mothers day to everyone!

Why thank you 2Tauruses and here I was thinking I was odd or something lol I think my MIL used to do that as well, mind you her teeth used to fall out a lot too, but I guess that's another story
2Tauruses - 15 days ago
I use tums, can't say they work but they don't make matters worse.. and Claire- aw it's ok it happens! I swear my MIL can't go anywhere without peeing her pants and she's DEF not pregnant. lol
3scompany - 16 days ago
Weird, I always use tums while pregnant. Works well for me.
Claire! Hilarious! I mean, I feel for you.
claire0308 - 16 days ago
on a lighter note i was in john lewis shoppping with my 3 year old today, and due to the fact that there's a high pollen count out here at the mo i went into a coughing fit and well anyways lets just say i wish i was wearing some huggies, so much so i thought my waters broke, how embarrassing had to go in the rest room and use the hand blower,so that was my day...LOL
bentZ5215 - 17 days ago
Already getting those painful calf cramps in middle of the night. This isn't good. Had 2 last night!
Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 17 days ago
Yeah when it comes to pregnancy heartburn tums are evil. Cream cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes bread may all help. Avoid sweet.
sarennah - 17 days ago
Dragonsoccermom - you were right about the Tums. Took one just before coming here and puked it back up. Unfortunately I have some slight allergy issues with milk so am going to have try something else. Thankfully I'm not a chocolate gal so that's not an issue :)
Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 17 days ago
Sarennah- tums wont help & may make it worse. Chug a cold glass of milk or enjoy some vanilla. I've cream. Solves it within minutes. Avoid chocolate & tomatoes.
sarennah - 17 days ago
Anyone else having acid reflux issues? In the evenings it is bad, especially when I lie down. Last night I sat up in bed till after 1:30 due to it unable to sleep. Any suggestions? Ate 3 Tums to no effect.
missniff2013 - 17 days ago
hello week 17! Still waiting to feel baby... Nothing frequent enough anyways that I could for sure say. Starting progesterone today. Have IC and hope on Monday my dr. Doesn't have to put me on full bedrest.
sarennah - 17 days ago
kimblestar- glad your allergies are getting better! Mine have gone crazy since the spring weather arrived and I have been sneezing like a crazy person. I keep waiting for this fabled improvement in health but so far not for me. :)
brookebaby3 - 18 days ago
I've had strangers touch my belly! It's really awkward and they all tell me I'm having a boy lol. I think even when I do find out boy or girl I won't tell the strangers just to see the guesses. I have 2 boys and they're always with me when this happens.. I thnk that's why people keep saying oh,another boy.
pr406 - 18 days ago
Haven't been on for a while! but yeah I'm also starting to show and I'm getting so excited! Its so amazing! And I'm loving how I can feel baby kicking everyday now and everyday its stronger :) :) :) can't wait till Thursday I will be 18 weeks along and I have an u/s app! I can't wait to see my baby <3
Kimblestar*team green* - 19 days ago
Mharter.... I noticed in my last pregnancy that most of my allergies went away. And I see now the same is starting to happen again. Usually I get headaches from chocolate and all mucousy from dairy but I seem to tolerate both at the moment. But the wierd thing is I have one hand covered with dry eczema since last week when I started having honey in my tea. My hand would start burning and itching within about 5 mins of drinking the tea. So have stopped that now and it's clearing up again. But it's quite common for allergies to clear up when pregnant or for them to change.
P.s. I just woke up 6.30am here now and had the freakiest weirdest unpleasant dream!!!!! Hate them!!!
2Tauruses - 20 days ago
I was reading y'alls comments about Dizzy spells and I was like hm, haven't had those.. Then what do you know, pops up last night.. Luckily close to bed time so I ended up sleeping it off.. On another note of sleeping, I have been having terrible dreams lately. I remember having more vivid dreams with my son, but not nightmares. This go around, I'm always having a dream that someones chasing me or trying to kill me.. Yikes.. Not a great nights sleep when you dream about that!
claire0308 - 20 days ago
Yes I did blessed someone for the first time gave up a seat on the bus ride home, it felt great :)
blessed2013 - 20 days ago
I getting excited! I was in the store yesterday and someone noticed I was pregnant for the first time this pregnancy and asked me when I was due!! I'm excited to know that I don't just look fat anymore, lol!
Anyone else have a similar experience of people starting to notice your pregnant without you telling them?
mharter04@yahoo.com - 20 days ago
Are any of you blessed with lactose intolerance? I have been for about 13 years plus when I was a baby (it went away for a while when I was a kid). Anyways, I took my daughter out for ice cream today and I had a big bowl. I haven't had ice cream in many many years but it looked sooo good. I figured I would just stay home and be absolutely miserable for the rest of the day, but it didn't bother me at all! Not even a little bit! I'm wondering if pregnancy has anything to do with this??
Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 20 days ago
No dizzy spells today but I also didn't take prenatals (yet) & I drank like 4 glasses of water. I do have terrible pains (probably gas??) Under my chest but above my belly button. It takes my breath away. Feels like a gremlin is ripping through my rib cage. Freakin ouch! Legs hurt & I think I popped, but it could be just whatever is ailing me. Dunno. still not feeling a ton of movement. :(
