Born & Birth stories

Close up of the face and hands The right foot, including the developing bones, are clearly visible in the middle of the screen

Your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.2 to 6 inches this week. Your baby weighs approximately 7 ounces and will increase its weight more than 15 times between now and birth!

Most women can feel their uterus about a half of an inch below their bellybutton at this point of pregnancy. If you turn to the side, you can really tell that your body is changing! Most women have gained up to 14 pounds now and only 7 ounces of that is your baby! The placenta weighs about 6 ounces and the amniotic fluid that surrounds your baby weighs 11 ounces. Your breasts have increased in weight by 6 ounces each and the uterus has grown to 11 ounces! You may be gaining weight in places other than your abdomen and this may be affecting your posture and sleeping habits.

One of the most amazing aspects of your baby's growth and development is that of the fetal brain. Your baby's brain is one of the first organs to appear. Your baby's oversized head shows the brain's importance in his development. Because the nerves that connect the muscles to the brain have grown into place, your baby's movements are consciously directed. Your baby's ears stand out from the sides of the head and the buds for your baby's permanent teeth appear. Your baby's arms and legs have reached their relative proportions and his feet are approximately one inch long.

Yeah I taught a lachlan a couple of years ago and he was a wonderful child, a real character but still a lovely child.

Anna Porteous - 2.5 hours ago
Duffy - We are tossing up between Shepherd or Lochlan... not sure yet! I see you've chosen Lachlan too!

Claire1987 - 3 hours ago
Duffy, yeah it makes up for some of the stuff he does, he can be a complete butthead most of the time lol. That's a nice combination of food, I've been craving fruit's.. So together we got 3 portions xD I love that name, it's so cute!!

Duffy - 4.1 hours ago
awww how sweet I wish my hubby would do that :( So far I have been mainly wanting salad, steak sandwiches and vegies lol So far we have decided on Lachlan Kenneth for Squirt - Kenneth is hubby's and hubby's grandfather's name

Claire1987 - 4.1 hours ago
ktb, see ya soon. **** Duffy, thank you, it took us forever to finally decide. Hehe on another note.. I just said to my husband 'I feel like a Kit-Kat' and he pulls out a kit-kat lol

Duffy - 4.2 hours ago
Claire I love those names!

ktbbaby - 4.5 hours ago
hey thanks for birthday wishes! my husband bought me a voucher for a 3d/4d sonogram (at 27 weeks, sigh). I cried when I opened it. What a great day! My baby blueberry is coming into a house with lots of love (and very little space :) ) I am 20 weeks tomorrow so see you there!

Claire1987 - 4.6 hours ago
Oh and on the name thing, yeah we got the names for a boy and a girl sorted out. For a boy Shawn Owen, named after my father that passed away, and for a girl Seren Angel, Seren meaning Star in Welsh.

Claire1987 - 4.6 hours ago
Kitten, so where ya live then if the father wants the boy? I think my dh wants a girl, cos he thinks they'll be easier.. Obviously not if they turn out like mommy at all hehe ;) ****** mumoftwo it's happened to me a couple of times too, I asked my dr and she said it was normal. I usually have sex before bed it's easier then you snuggle and go to sleep lol.. OR make him go up and get a ice pack to put on for a few minutes the pain seems to go away. Or try being on top, I found it didn't hurt at all when I was in control ;)

ookitten - 5.7 hours ago
mumOftwo; Ayva Samantha is a beautiful choice.DH has chosen TJ for a boy (Thomas John) after grandpa so he'd be the 5th or Feby Lynn for a girl.Anna; Congrats on your babyboy!I'll be thinking the same thing if I end up w/team blue also,LOL.

Duffy - 6.5 hours ago
COngrats Anna....go team blue!!! have you thought of a name?

Anna Porteous - 6.6 hours ago
Max is getting a little BROTHER! Poor me, so much testosterone in this house!

lovemy2girls - 7.8 hours ago
mumoftwo..that's so sweet about the name ;) I would swell from time to time with my last pregnancy...not having sex currently with this one so I don't know yet..haha. I remember it would feel really hot and swollen down there for about an hour after sex, then stop. I cold wash cloth worked well and felt good. I agree though you might want to run it past your Nurse/Dr. just to make sure nothing they can do to help you out.

mum0ftwo - 8.1 hours ago
Geez, cant believe theyd just take your baby and cut him without asking!! WOW .. In regards to the whole swelling thing its like im allergic to sperm or something .. It doesnt hurt while were doing it but immediately afterwards it swells and when i pee it burns like crazy .. and the inner bits which normally sit inside neatly out of site protrude 2 cms (an inch?)past the outer bits .. were not using lube or condoms or anything so i know its not that .. Does anyone have names picked yet?? We're naming our little girl Ayva Samantha (Samantha is for my mum who lost a baby girl named samantha and i asked her what she thought about using it for a middle name and she liked the idea=D) .. If it was a boy it'd have been Tyler Gregory ..

marli - 8.3 hours ago
Thank kitten! Hopefully i'll be joining team pink tomorrow.

ookitten - 8.5 hours ago
momOftwo; I'd be a little more than concerned about the whole swelling 5Xs.I'd probably get a hold of a nurse over the phone at least if I wasn't able to see my doctor.Good luck, hope it's nothing serious.

ookitten - 8.6 hours ago
Marli;I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! =D

marli - 8.7 hours ago
Circumcision is always a hot topic! Both my boys are and I wouldn't consider not doing it. I really anxious/nervous about my ultrasound tomorrow! But i'm not sure why? I really have got my hopes up that it's a girl and I don't want to disappointed if it's another boy. I think it would be so great to have 2 boys and a girl, that's always been my dream. Oh well, by 9:30 tomorrow we should know!

lovemy2girls - 8.8 hours ago
just bored and reading...I don't have a dog in this fight since I'm having a girl..but I've dated guys who were not circ'd...eww...not into it. Of course just like everythign else, it's TOTALLY a personal decision and your boys will be fine either way. Just as a vote though, I'd say do it. I've watched tons of them at work and it's no biggie (of course I'm not the Mom having to watch) ;) I agree with the others that said it's a hygiene thing too. Still, go with your gut ladies...it's your choice ; )

ookitten - 8.8 hours ago
mumoftwo; DH & I had NOT arranged for it nor were we asked.HECK, we hadn't even filled out papers agreeing on it.The whole drama scene happen in the same hospital where I had pre-registered (get this)3mons prior to the birth. And the nurses still didn't get me my epidural!I ended up giving natural birth unwillingly.Don't worry ladies, you will all be glad to know that that same hospital ended up closed 2yrs later. But the whole circumcision decision shouldn't be about drama or beliefs is my theory. When it all comes down to what's best for baby, just ask yourself that. What do I THINK is best for my baby?..and do that.=)

mum0ftwo - 9.2 hours ago
Also its hard to find information that isn't buyist on the whole circumcison thing .. they're either written aboutsomeone for it and make it sound so benefeicial or by someone who is against it and make it sound absolutely terrible ..

mum0ftwo - 9.2 hours ago
ookitten: do they just do it where you are or did you arrange it? just curious but the way you explained it seemed as if they do it unless you say otherwise .. I think here in australia only 10% of babies a circ now .. not 100% sure though .. i never thought about getting it done but after i had my son and saw discussions about it i decided to research it just to see what the big kefuffle was but the so called benefits are only very small .. i think it said lower chance of uti's in the first year .. but that can be treated with antibiotics and it isnt very common in males anyway .. we may as well remove appendixes when we are born as we dont need them and we could get appendicitis?? or whatever the thing is called lol .. anyway circ is a personal decision and im not trying to make anyone change their minds or anything .. just my opinion .. and does anyone else (ummm) swell after sex? I have been and my inner bits swell to 5 times their normal size and burn anless i constantly pour cold water on em for bout 5 mins .. im scared of having sex now!! lol ..

brookeamber - 9.3 hours ago
We have a 16 month old boy- he is circumsized. They took him from us the day after he was born and brought him back a half hour later circumsized and he was fine. We plan to get this boy circumsized also.

ookitten - 9.5 hours ago
In a completely different subject, has anyone else been experiencing numbness on your left or right side (depending which side you lay on)after only 2hrs?I've been having to turn non-stop @ night time just to get the feeling back. It's really tiring & frustrating especially when I'm suppose to be sleeping.

ookitten - 9.8 hours ago
Claire1987,I'm finding it ironic that you'd hope for the boy & DH for the girl cause in my nationality (native) it's usually DH whom wants the boy,LOL!AKA- the whole macho-man thing.I think that's really cute that your hubby wants the girl.In my circumstance it's me who wants the girl & DH wants the boy..go figure.Jenn.and.pumpkin;bet you felt great knowing you were off the hook from that decision LOL!ArticArlz; I have a son who didn't get cir.Our decision really became much more clearer to us right after the nurses took my newborn away & the nurse said 'we're getting him prepared for the cutting.'=O I almost fainted when I heard my screaming to the top of his lungs down the hallway.Call it a mother's instinct but I knew it was my baby.I felt my blood rush cold down every vein of my body.I screamed so loud I still remember hearing my voice echo,LOL. I just couldn't allow it to happen.I felt it was too much to bare, that & DH@the time was a clear example that it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't go thru it.

babymama77 - 9.9 hours ago
My husband is circumsized and here in the US, at least where I am, alomst everyone does it. Although, lately I've been hearing more and more than don't. I would say we made our decision based on hygiene and also, as embarrassing as this may sound, for the 'look' of it. Uncircumsized penises just look odd to me, but that's just me. :)

ArcticArlz - 10.3 hours ago
I think it may end up being about how passionate DH is about it.

ArcticArlz - 10.3 hours ago
thanks a lot ladies!! I was panicking a bit at the idea there after the video, but I will continue to research and talk with hubby and make our decision. The more stories I hear the more it doesn't sound so bad. (I did a poll as well) However with it not being medically necessary.... we'll see, I don't know yet!

jenn.and.pumpkin - 10.4 hours ago
on the circ discussion...DH and I had decided we would not, b/c DH was convinced baby was a boy, but... since this one is a little girl it's moot now... for us though it came down to the fact we just didn't see a point in it.

jenn.and.pumpkin - 10.4 hours ago
Well one of the Dr's I worked with told me I was finally starting to show today...and then one pt and our cleaning lady (who don't know) came right out and asked me if I was pregnant....LOL...kinda made my day

alison3773 - 10.5 hours ago
My husband went with our son when he was circumsized and it was much harder on my husband than our baby. Colton cried before they started because they held him down on a board but Anthony gave him his binky and Colton didn't even cry when they cut him. We were told they usually don't use anything for pain, but we requested topical pain releif and they used it no problem. Colton didn't even notice. We cleaned it with his diaper changes and put ointment on it so it and it healed up pretty fast. Not all circumcisions are as scary as the ones they have you you tube so please don't base your decision on a couple of ammature videos. I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do, just do your research and do what you feel is best for you little boy.

bkz123 - 11.3 hours ago
You tube has videos of babies being cirumcized...you should check it out and educate yourself! After watching it I made my husband watch what the baby would have to go though before he just said yet...even though he is circumsized and would have wanted to have it done if we had a boy (but we are having a girl, so we dont have to decide). Good luck!

ArcticArlz - 11.4 hours ago
babymama - how come? religion or medical? I'm really into this topic now, LOTS of info out there for and against.

clairemumof1 - 11.4 hours ago
insensitive i meant lol xx

clairemumof1 - 11.4 hours ago
I am watching a programme in the UK called one born every minute. This poor woman is in labour and her husband is sitting there laughing at her whilst she is having contractions omg it is making me so angry to watch- what a complete knob head. So glad I dont have a DF that is a complete insensite loser- sorry just had to vent about that ha xx

babymama77 - 11.4 hours ago
We're definitely getting our baby circumsized. There wasn't any question about that. ;-)

ArcticArlz - 11.6 hours ago
I left the choice to my husband, who himself is circumsized and believes it's better. I might have to do more research on it, now that I know we HAVE to make that decision.

mum0ftwo - 11.8 hours ago
Hey I've been following this site for a while .. I have a 19 month old son and I'm pregnant with a baby girl. So excited =D I think that parents who circumcise their boys because its cleaner are too lazy too teach proper hygiene .. but where I live circumcision is'nt very common anyway .. (Australia) But I guess this is'nt really the place to discuss that .. =D

ArcticArlz - 12.4 hours ago
need to save that $$ for the circumcision now!! Yikes!! Hubby says there's no question, he's getting it done, poor boy, but I agree, seems cleaner and better in the long run.

ArcticArlz - 12.4 hours ago
gispencer - I have heard that we can fly to Edmonton to get a 4D done, but we won't, we talked about it if they couldn't tell what the gender was but we have the info we wanted, and don't really need to drop the $$ for the flight and U/S. Our city is only 20,000 and doesn't have all the options that a major center would.

babymama77 - 12.9 hours ago
Is anyone still getting headaches? I've had one for 3 days now.

momof2under1:-) - 13.1 hours ago
brookeamber- I definitely do not have a name picked out yet. Ultrasound is tomorrow then we will start thinking more seriously about it. Luckily we still have atleast 19 more weeks!

gispencer - 13.2 hours ago
arctic.. can you at least go to an outside source and pay for a 4d if you elect to like you can in the US?

brookeamber - 13.2 hours ago
Does everyone have names picked out yet? I am having a boy and can't find anything that I love.

hannahsomerville - 13.3 hours ago
is it possible to feel your baby's leg with your hand ?

ninjen - 13.4 hours ago
Its a boy!

momof2under1:-) - 13.5 hours ago
I'm glad to hear others are feeling there baby on the outside! Yesterday the baby was hanging out on my right side and just going CRAZY! It was when I was at work and I was on the phone. As soon as I got off the phone I leaned back as far as I could (in my chair) and I put my hand on my belly and sure enough felt it move on the outside! I was so amazed I could feel that this early! Thought it would be a couple more weeks for sure! ULTRASOUND TOMORROW!!

kriistiina - 13.8 hours ago
babymama- that is so cute! my bf got to feel our baby for the first time last week & he was so extremely happy as i've been feeling it for 3 weeks now, and he was kind of getting upset he couldn't feel a thing. My sister also got to feel it last night for the first time ( you have to be a bit patient when trying to feel him or her move, with mine anyways) it kicks & kicks & as soon as someone puts their hand there it stops LOL & she had the biggest smile on her face. it's such an amazing feeling, I love it!

dwilk - 13.9 hours ago
51 hrs until ultrasound!!!

babymama77 - 14.1 hours ago
Hubby felt the baby move last night for the first time. He's been trying for weeks and never feels anything, but last night we were watching tv and all the sudden he belts out 'I felt something!' I felt it as well so I know it was def. the baby. It was cute.
