Born & Birth stories

You may feel as if you have been pregnant forever at this point. It might be hard to imagine being pregnant for another ten weeks, but your baby still has a lot of growing and developing to do! By this time, your baby's crown-to-rump length is a little over 10.8 inches and the total length of your baby is about 17 inches! Your baby weighs about 3 pounds now. Your uterus can be felt about 4 inches above your bellybutton. Your uterus, baby, placenta and the amount of fluid will get larger over the next ten weeks. You should be gaining about a pound a week at this time.

Because you are getting larger, you are probably becoming slower and clumsier. You should try to be careful to avoid dangerous falls. Good posture when sitting and standing can help you feel better during your pregnancy. You also should be rolling over on your side to get up after lying down because your muscles have stretched to accommodate your growing uterus.

Even though your baby is cushioned by the amniotic fluid, she can feel and respond to pain. Your baby now does `practice breathing` to get ready for life outside of your womb. If you have an ultrasound at this time, you will be able to see this. If your baby swallows amniotic fluid down the wrong passage, she will still get hiccups that are noticeable by you. If your baby were born at this time, she would be able to keep herself warm.

The skin begins to smoothen as fat deposits accumulate underneath. The fat insulates and is an energy source.

I'm feeling like a darn dragon with all this heartburn, and acid reflux...hhhhhhhuuug!

julz - 18 days ago
Got a lot done this weekend, nesting kicked in & I landed up doing a deep clean of the house and yard. I'm a little sore today, but so glad to have it all done. But, I have been having tummy issues all weekend, still not feeling well...I'm not sure if it's morning sickness coming back or if it's the medication I'm on...blah

iraqimom - 18 days ago
woooow i'm 30 weeks so happy, everything is so smooth with this pregnancy so far..hope every1 is having great weekend.

seventhheaven - 18 days ago
Happily can report the barn did get cleaned today !! Hooray .. that was such a monkey on my back :) with Many little helping hands and a couple hours .. Daddy had it done :) worked out well since he needed to set u the saw horses to begin staining the trim for the house ! No beautiful warmth here yet .. it is still snowing as I type this !! Everyone back home has been posting pics of green leaves and fresh grass while wearing tank tops, sandals and sporting the pasty white skin of winters slumber. I am so JEALOUS !! On an odd note .. Even though I have been through 6 other pregnancies I have experienced a first for me tonight .. My back locked up on me while sitting on the bottom of the shower and was stuck in Pain at the bottom of the shower for a good 5 mins till I could call one of the kids and ask them to go get daddy .. who BTW needed to use a butter kife to get in the bathroom ..what a nightmare :)

Last day in week 30! I feel like the time is really moving now.

lizakn - 19 days ago
Seventh-I totally know what you mean when you say your barn becomes an extension of the house lol..ours gets like that too! I've had a wonderful day so far today!...hit some Yard Sales with my sister & nephew, enjoyed some Ice Cream at our Fathers store...went for a nice long walk (its gorgeous out! High 80's!) and now I'm going to make some homemade pizza for supper! Even though the thought of making dough right now doesn't impress me lol...that long power walk tired me out! But I'm craving MY pizza...so I better make it lol

julz - 19 days ago
Nesting has kicked in for me too, but I've been trying my best not to do too much because of all the cramping and pressure I've been having. We also have renovations going on here and just trying to get as much done as we can, hoping to not need bed rest this time around. Had another weird dream last night that I gave birth early at home, had a huge 10 pounder, he was beautiful and very healthy, my milk didn't come in but he was still a happy little guy...it was really weird but felt so real, I woke up surprised to still be prego...lol crazy prego dreams!

seventhheaven - 19 days ago
OH I would LOVE to get outside and get some work done. But we are in the middle of a wicked Mud season and I have to wait till we dry up a bit .. UGH .. I do not enjoy Mud season !! BUT I have gone through ALL of the kids rooms and ditched a ton of stuff they wont be wearing anymore and pulled out a few summer items to get them started .. I am expecting this baby to come at 37 weeks so I feel the push on getting the kids orgainized before. Plus the renovations that are still going on downstairs to create a guest room for my inlaws. We are expecting them to fly in the day before I am released to come home after the section .. so the house must be 'company ready' and not just that but She needs to be able to easliy locate things in my Kitchen since I will be down recovering and they are here to help with me family .. So Much to do !! and we so need to clena the barn too .. We havent really been out there since November .. and in the summer that barn becomes and extension of the house !! they kids have all their bikes and stuf out there and we BBQ have friends over, the beer firdge is out there .. and It so needs damage control we've just been throwing stuff in there for months. Ah geez I need to stop thinking about it now .. It wont seem like I accomplished much today if I don't .. back to the grind tomorrow !!

lizakn - 20 days ago
Seventh-I hear ya on the nesting!! Except mine is more focused on my yard work, gardens & the barn. I'm a clean-a-holic anyways...so my house is always super clean....but I am going through stuff & wanting to throw everything out lol! I just know once this baby comes...it will be at the same time we have our cattle & possibly pigs...so there will be so much to do! If I get all my yard work\gardens done now, I won't have to worry about it come July :)

seventhheaven - 20 days ago
AND the 'nesting' has begun !!! Im'a round mean cleaning machine :) have a great day ladies !!

washnwear - 20 days ago
julz- I'm glad you're ok. That's probably a sign that you need to slow things down. I had a lot of contractions last night too. I had so much pressure in my pelvis that I almost went to the hospital. Then when I was finally able to get comfortable and fall asleep, I had a dream that I went into labor at work and held the baby in with my hand until we got to the hospital. Can you say scary?

lizakn - 20 days ago
Julz- take it easy today & keep us updated.

julz - 20 days ago
Had a scare last night, I almost went into L&D because I was having slightly painful contractions off and on, there were any where from 7 to 2 minutes apart...luckily they trickled off, now I'm exhausted and sore. Might still call the doc to let them know.

julz - 21 days ago
I know people who have had home births with a midwife, they had wonderful experiences laboring in the pool and such. I think home births are pretty awesome, wish I could attend one. I'm too high risk to even consider it. I think its great others have that opportunity!!

Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 21 days ago
Liza, my husband can't believe it but you made me a believer. Can't wait to hear your birth story! Good luck!

lizakn - 21 days ago
Umm..just wondering...those of you that do find Home Births scary & wouldn't want to experience one, just to clarify....Midwives don't come to your house with a hot towel & that's it (like television makes people believe) They come with most everything you would find in a delivery room. They can sew you up if you tear..give pictocin if you are having trouble delivering the placenta...they have forceps if needed...even some pain meds (if that's something you need as well) They aren't just there to catch the baby....they have studied for years to become a midwife.

julz - 21 days ago
Liz~I am rooting for you!! I am so excited to hear your birth story!! There is absolutely no chance I would be able to deliver anywhere but the hospital but I'm okay with it being that this is my 7th. I have had wonderful birth experiences even while hooked up to monitors, iv's and such...hoping this one is the same.

lizakn - 21 days ago
Writermom- You are very right. The US has very high #'s with c-sections...much higher then here in Canada. Other countries around the world (especially In Europe) mostly have home births. People think that the death rate for mothers/newborns are higher for home births...but actually it's lower then hospital births. Dragon- The reason my family does not accept transfusions is because we live by Bible standards (or try to as much as possible - nobody is perfect) But I don't like to go into detail about that because it always seems to cause a big debate when people start discussing religion. And please don't get me wrong...I like 'modern conveniences' as much as the next person...I just like to show people there is another way to live...or birth in this situation lol. I just know if I go to the hospital to have this baby I'm going to regret it...and always wished I would have birthed at home...but I would NEVER regret a home birth! Even if something goes wrong...I would still be glad I stuck to what I believed in. Women shouldn't be afraid of birth...it's what we were made to do....but nowadays women fear their births because they see things on TV or listen to their Doctors. For every 1 home birth that does go wrong...there are hundreds that don't :)

WriterMom - 21 days ago
Lizakin - I think Brooke's advice is very sound. I have 2 friends who had home birth and they loved it. I personally don't feel strong one way or another- I feel like I just need this kid out! Since my husband is a doctor, home birth is not an option for us, he has seen too many things go wrong for him to be comfortable with it BUT it also happens rarely. If I felt strongly about home birth, I'd do it. I am going to give birth at the hospital (presumably, haha) and try to get out of there as soon as possible. And you are completely right about the high number of unnecessary medical interferences. US has actually horrible record and I was shocked to see that maternal & infant death rates are much larger than some third world countries, mainly due to early inductions, forced c-sections and lack of prenatal care. So do all you can to prepare and stay safe and have the best experience! And don't expect others to understand :-)

brookes first baby - 21 days ago
lizakin - Although I'm not opposed to hospital births, I will say that my home birth was amazing/better than my hospital birth, which was still natural and with a midwife and it makes me excited for my next one. It's such a shame that your province doesn't cover midwives. Sounds like you have things under control (provided you have your husband and labour coach with you) so I think I would go for it. I would suggest sending a map and directions to your house to the ambulance. My midwive does that for all her planned home births just in case. Good luck!!

Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 21 days ago
Lizakn- valid points. Like I said I'm intrigued & you sound open minded, thank you for that. I can see your point of view from your point, which is not always easy. I am understand you (even just a little bit more). You are green & natural. You eat organic & recycle religiously. It's a TOUGH lifestyle to adapt to, but it's healthy for your children. They are a product of their environment which is very healthy. I try to be healthy to a degree but I'd never survive in your house. :) I like my epidurals & membrane sweeps. I prefer comfort & convenience. I don't like making things harder on myself, but because that's not my lifestyle/belief. I gotta say- you got me thinking & even kind of rooting for ya. :) can I ask also, why the strong disbelief in transfusions? I think it' also hard for us in the states to understand because (at least I know by me) there are so many options & dr's ask & suggest different things rather than just follow a procedure. It's always done the mothers way. Maybe it's because we usually pay for it? I don't know. whichever the case, I'm glad you'll have a couple of people with you that are trained, & I hope you get the midwife. Wish I was that brave & secure, but I'm not. I do have a friend who is on medication that messes with her periods. She can go months without one. She was also told she'd never have children. When she delivered alone at her parents house she didn't even know she was expecting. (the symptoms were the same as medication side effects). She said it was terrifying, but that's the only story I know of besides for the people whom my husband &i have delivered. I didn't ask them at the time but those women didn't seem to be having too good a time. I'm personally good for a 45 minute labor a I live an hour from hospital. I've had waters break in car. No fun. Lol.

seventhheaven - 21 days ago
I need some thoughts ~ Andy is using his ONE and ONLY veto .. to Kill the name Jameson :( SO now I am thinking Maybe ( Henry Patrick ) or ( Charlie Patrick ) ???? Which sounds better .. See the deal is .. we go every other child to name .. but BUT the other person gets ONE veto !! So I named Quinton Kennedy and Olivia and he named Alice Andrew and Autumn .. my turn again and I really liked Jameson Patrick ... But he veto'd

seventhheaven - 21 days ago
Good Luck Liz ~ I couldn't do it !! I am a hospital girl all the way. I must have a c-section due to the previous 2 and I have a 30% risk of a repeat abruption since I had the 1st one back in 08 .. I'm glad I made it the hospital in time for that one .. Otherwise I may have died and my son had to resusatated after delivery his HR was in the 60's when we arrived and I was bleeding very badly !! I lost 2 units of blood and almost my son . I have a fear of delivering anywhere else other than a hospital and since I too am over an hr from the hospital .. they do my section at 37 weeks .. I have never made it past 38 weeks. Better safe than sorry . But I am hoping your home birth is Everything you wanted :) It's wonderful you are so brave

lizakn - 21 days ago
Dragon - I'm not opposed to all Medical Procedures at all...but in the past 50 years, people have made Births out to be some 'medical emergency' and they are not. C-Section rates have gone up SO much because of Doctors...there is actually research backing that up. Years ago, everyone was born at home...naturally. Now women go into have their babies at a hospital, and are induced...then given an epidural...have their water broken or membranes stripped....and then in the end {because of Doctors trying to run the birthing process} they have to go for a C-Section. I wish Doctors would just leave babies/women alone & let nature take its course. They try & scare women that their babies are too big to push out...or that they are too overdue....and unless you do your research & ask questions...women give into what they are being told to do by Doctors. And again...like I said before I am hoping to have a Midwife. Do I want to have a baby Unassisted..of course not. Its not my first choice...I would prefer to have a Licensed Midwife present at the birth....but because of the situation in this Provence I live in, that isn't always possible. I haven't made up my mind yet on what I'm going to do...I am exploring my options. Plus with the hospital I would have to go to being 1 hour away in another town {since ours was flooded}...it may be possible that I might have this baby in the car on the way there...so I would rather know how to give birth on my own & what to do in case something like that happens. Also..I have a sister-in-law & an Aunt that are both Nurse Practitioners...which have both delivered babies that would be on call as well if I do decide to Home Birth. I know its hard for most of you to understand {except for Brooke because I know she Home Births} why I would rather have a baby at home instead of in a Hospital...but honestly...Doctors & Nurses don't have all the answers. People rely on them too much...and think they know what is best for everyone...but thats not always true. I am a FIRM believer in a Natural way of living...Medication that Doctors pump people full of usually do more harm then good {and I know I'm not the only person in the world that thinks that} When my kids get sick {which is usually only once a year} I use natural home remedies to boost their immune systems...I never give them over the counter medications. When my 2nd child was born...he was VERY jaundice...and the Doctors wanted to send him to a larger hospital to have a procedure done where they pump him full of blood {from donors} to regulate his Bili.levels. Since we do not accept blood transfusions...& me being a Lactation Consultant I knew that Breast Milk is the best way to get Bili.levels to where they should be. So I told the Doctors that my son would NOT be receiving that procedure, and even with them totally not on board with my decision...I breastfed him around the clock...and after 1 day his levels were perfect! There was one doctor there {a women} that told me she thought me standing up for what I believed in was the way to go & even she herself said 'Doctors don't have the answers for everything.'

julz - 21 days ago
First day in week 30..no more than 8 weeks for me!! The midwife advised me that they will make plans to induces by 38 weeks, if I haven't gone yet due to my fast labors, they don't want me to give birth in the car or at Walmart..lol Seventh~I am also very unprepared, I have hand me downs from my 2 year old, but nothing new, I better get my butt into gear!! Liz~I wish you lots of luck with your unassisted home birth. I on the other hand am the poster child for a hospital birth, as I have always been on a tons of monitors & IV's and such...so the thought of delivering anywhere but the hospital scares me. I had a thought, why not invite one of the other women who have done an unassisted home birth to attend, just in case your hubby and bff need an extra hand?

Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 21 days ago
Lizakn- my biggest concern was you being completely alone. I'm so glad you wouldn't be. I'm glad you've researched & have seen the pros & cons & are making an educated decision. I still couldn't do it, personally, lol. But to each their own. :) sounds like your kind is made up & like all women (especially pregnant ones) it's best to just go with what you feel in your gut, & not double question it. For the sake of your experience I hope you & your husband find some common ground & that all goes smooth. Honestly, if you were my sister or daughter, your butt would be bound & duct taped, blindfolded in the trunk of the car on the way to the hospital at that point. But, since your not I wish you luck. I do wonder if you are opposed to hospitals for all medical procedures? Would you refuse chemo for cancer, or a transplant for a sick child? Verypersonal decisions but I'm trying to see where you draw the 'better safe than sorry' line. I'm trying to understand the drive of a home birth as you now have me very intrigued. (sounds messy too). I would like to see it from your point of view, but I can't.

seventhheaven - 21 days ago
OH Hooray Week 30 ~ now im getting nervous ..Because I am NOT ready at all !!I have 2 tiny sleepers and 2 pair of socks !! NOTHING is ready !! I have 7 weeks to get my ass in gear :)

lizakn - 21 days ago
Dragon - I have done SO much research on Home Births {Assisted & Unassisted} I'm actually a Medical Assistant {just not currently working as one because our hospital was ruined last March due to our town flooding} I am also a Lactation Consultant & I have been studying/researching Midwifery & Home Births for the past 4 years. The people that would be attending is my husband {if he becomes on board with the plan} my labor coach {who has been my coach the other 2 times} Like I said in my last post...I have talked to a Midwife about possibly being able to have her come for free...but she is also 3 hours away {thats the closest Midwife} thats why many women in my area have to have their home births Unassisted because we don't have Midwifes in this area. Personally...I'm not worried about something going wrong. My first labor with my daughter was 4 hours & she was out on the 2nd push...my 2nd child was 11.5 hours of labor {his head wasn't positioned right, causing me not to progress quickly} and he was out on the first push..before the Doctor made it to the delivery room. I have thought about everything that could go wrong...but at the same time I can't think that way because then I'm just setting myself up for something going wrong. And since I do not accept blood transfusions...if I hemmorrage to the point of needing blood, it wouldn't matter if I was at home or in a hospital. Everyone keeps saying to me 'Why do you need to home birth...what do you have to prove?!' but I actually have a lot to prove! When I had my other 2 children nobody believed that I had them with no pain meds...and they were shocked by that. I just want to be able to say 'I HOME BIRTHED!'

mamamuguer - 21 days ago
lizakn, I also wanted a natural birth with my first child. My husband was opposed to it, because he was scared of birthing at home, so we just went around all public hospitals in the area and chose the one which promoted natural births. This was a good compromise. At the end, wity my first child it was not exactly possible because he was more than 2 weeks late, and they had to provoke birth injecting Oxycontin. Even with that, I was without pain meds for 9 hours. It turned out after 9 hours of contractions every two minutes, I had not dilated anything, and they suggested that epidural might help, sometimes with girls who practice sports often it happens, muscles do not relax and they do not dilate. I accepted to have a very light epidural (I could still stand on my legs after the anesthesia!) and I dilated, and 3 hours later my baby was born. For this pregnancy, I am considering also a home birth (assisted), but the hospital, given the conditions they gave me, is not such a bad idea... Good luck with whatever you decide, and I hope you can get the birth you really want! :)

Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 22 days ago
Lizakn- I hope that your birthing experience is everything you want it to be. I want you to feel safe, & comfortable & happy. Most of all safe. Please safe. I'm so proud of you to being open to the criticism of the forum & responding without angst. That being said, it was completely wrong for the nurses to treat you that way. Your birth experience is YOURS. I'm sure you've researched the pros & cons of an unassisted home birth. My first question- would you completely be UNASSISTED with nobody to help? Nobody to unwrap a cord or assist baby's first breath? Second question- do you have or plan to have any medical training in the event of an emergency? Thirdly- in my area, you could call 911 st the time of imminent delivery & they could be there to help, or just for support, as well as for medical transport. Would you be opposed to that? Anyway, like I said I'm sure you've also considered the what if's & are ready to deal personally with the consequences of something you may not of been expecting. (ruptured uterus, baby stuck or lowering heart rate, hemorrhaging, or WORSE). Like I said, I want this delivery to be everything you want, even though I can't comprehend it. I believe the infant/mother death rate has decreased since the beginning of time because women stopped delivering on the trailsides, teepees & rice patties because of the medical interventions available. I understand you didn't have problems in the past & that's a blessing, & a natural birth (TWICE) is no easy feat so hats of to you for that. I couldn't do it! I just wish you the best- for comfort & safety of mother & baby.

lizakn - 22 days ago
Had an ultrasound today, and they say the baby is measuring over 4lbs...and they think I am perhaps ahead by a week or 2....but I personally don't believe it because they are never accurate. As for the Unassisted Birth. I realize many of you would be scared & think 'what if'....but honestly...I have more of a chance of something going wrong in a hospital because doctors/nurses try to tell you how your going to birth....with their so called 'routine' medical procedures. Since the beginning of humans on this earth...women gave birth unassisted. The nurses when I had my first 2, made me feel like I was doing everything wrong. They treated me like crap...making me feel like I couldn't birth naturally without pain meds {well I proved them wrong!} so the thought of going to a hospital again, just upsets me & stresses me out. I have thought about a doula...but one of my best friends {who attended my other 2 births} has had all 4 of her children naturally...and was the best labor/delivery coach I could ask for! I know many women that have had Unassisted Births in their homes in this Provence because of the fact that Midwives are not covered under the government yet...and they said they can't imagine going to a hospital to give birth. I have been speaking to a Midwife though, that has told me she sometimes does free births...so hopefully I can meet with her.

beingamomrocks - 22 days ago
These next Two months are going to seem slow but fly by at the same time. I remember when it was March and how fast the time went. Not much longer now Mommy's. :D. My 14 Month old just started walking:(. Time flys faster than I want it To.

mamamuguer - 22 days ago
Hello ladies, first day at week 30 for me! Almost single digits, that's crazy! lizakn, even though I prefer also all natural births, I think it is wiser to have somebody experienced around just in case. Normally, nothing should go wrong in a birth, but if anything goes wrong you can risk your life or your baby's life being alone at home. Think twice about it! And good luck!

julz - 23 days ago
I was just thinking the same thing, why not look into having a Doula with you for the birth? I have a friend who is a Doula.

washnwear - 23 days ago
liz- The idea of an unassisted at home birth sounds crazy pants to me but I'm honestly one of those people who doesn't mind the medical intervention. I want an epidural as soon as they'll give it to me so I'm not the one to pass judgment. I do, however, think that you need to be at the hospital just because anything can go wrong and you'd be in a better position to handle it there. Also, if your husband isn't on board, it might complicate the process. Not like he'd go on strike but he just wouldn't be comfortable handling things.

brookes first baby - 23 days ago
lizakin - I get that you're not too concerned and that midwives are too pricey (which sucks), but what about a dula? They are around $500 here. Not as qualified as midwives, but they may be able to see warning signs and make the whole experience better.

Dragonsoccermom*teamBLUE* - 23 days ago
Lizakn- I'm an EMT who has delivered OTHER PEOPLES BABIES in the back of an ambulance. I have 2 children myself. My husband is an paramedic who has delivered 13 children. My mother is a nurse up the block. The thought of an unassisted home birth scares the CRAP outta me. I'm with your husband. Sometimes you just need to be somewhere JUST IN CASE. There's too much that can go wrong & you can't always do it alone.

washnwear - 23 days ago
I'm feeling like I'm addicted to online shopping lately. I'm trying to be good but I keep seeing things that I want to buy.

lizakn - 23 days ago
Ultrasound tomorrow to check size & see if my dates are still matching up {personally I don't think it really matters since babies come when they come...due dates mean nothing!} but my doctor thinks I am measuring for around the end of June rather then July...so we will see. Ultrasounds are never accurate! Been researching a lot online & in books on having an Unassisted Home Birth. Since I can't afford to hire a Midwife {around $4500} and Midwives aren't covered under Medicare here in New Brunswick...if I want a Home Birth, then Unassisted is the only way to go. It doesn't scare me to give birth on my own. I had no complications with my first 2 labors/deliveries...but my husband still isn't on board with the idea. Hopefully I can change his mind...because the thought of having another baby in the hospital makes me want to cry! I want to be at home...where I feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed. I don't feel safe at a hospital. Doctors/Nurses try to make birth out to be some medical emergency...treating women like they are sick or something! We aren't sick...we are pregnant lol.

beingamomrocks - 23 days ago
Last night while I was sleeping was the first time I got startled awake with her movement. Lol. I have two boys, 3 & 1 and I am always worried when they bump my stomachs that it will some how hurt her but babies are resilient even in the womb, right?:)

Last day in week 30. Headed off to single digit weeks left. So excited.

washnwear - 25 days ago
I'm 30 weeks today! Only 10 weeks left. So glad tobe close to the end. I'm llooking forward to being able to say that I only have 4 weeks left. I think I'll have a celebratory dinner on that day.

Ready for the next two Saturdays to come. Next Saturday we're taking the kids to a Day Out With Thomas. I've been looking forward to surprising them with that for a couple months. And the following Saturday will be my baby shower. And I'll get to see my some family and friends that I haven't seen in a while.

JamieMI - 27 days ago
I have been taking it a little slower this week. And enjoying life a little more. Still have quite a bit I would like to get done before baby arrives but with three little ones already here I have to make sure I am enjoying them too. I can tell when I get real busy and don't make time to slow down for them things, attitudes aren't as pretty. Almost to single digit weeks!!

WriterMom - 27 days ago
Goingfornumber3 - my son, who up until now slept in his room through the night without any issues, keeps coming in to our bed every night and I am too tired to bother with bringing him back to his bed. He has been sick, so that might be why, but it almost feels like he knows the baby is coming and his time is limited. I am so tired of not getting good sleep with him wiggling next to me.

goingfornumber3 - 27 days ago
Starting to get bad heartburn again. And I'm exhausted. But the exhaustion is more because ds and dd haven't been sleeping well. And now dd is coming down with a cold.

Thank you ladies. I feel alot better now. I didn't want to feel like I disadvantaged my child for my own selfish reasons. My DD did pretty well being nursed, being that she really only started getting colds when she started daycare at three. She is also allergic to milk, which I learned about 9 months ago. I figured some breastmillk in the first few weeks was better than nothing at all.

I breast fed my daughter exclusively for the first five months and then we extended breast feeding until 15 months. She had tons of ear infections and eventually had to have ear tubes. She is super smart but not sure if that is due to my breast milk or something else. She is also sick ALL the time, but I think that is more because she is in daycare than anything else. My siblings and I were all bottle fed and we all turned out well. My sis and I were both valedictorians of our classes in highschool and graduated with honors from college on full ride scholarships. So I don't really think it matters and you should do what is best for you.

Maddie--I formula fed ds and breastfed dd. They both had about the same amount of colds and ear infections. And they're both about the same level of intelligence. You have to do what's best for you and your kids.

Hey ladies I haven't been on much lately. I found out yesterday that the inpatient and outpatient ob/gyn practice I got to for my prenatal care closes the day before my due date. So I had to find another hospital to deliver at along with a midwife practice with privileges at that hospital. I found both today after what will now be my last appointment at the place I had both my older children. It's kind of sad but I'm accepting it. I was lucky enough to get an appointment for exactly two weeks from now so I'm on my same schedule as I was. Now I just have to get comfortable with the new place. But anyway I didn't gain any weight these last 4 weeks So I'm still sitting at 20 lbs total weight gain for the pregnancy so far. My bp was low, Caleb's heartbeat was in the 140s, my fundal height is still on target, and all my prior lab results came back good. I'm still advised to gain as close to 20 more lbs as I can.
