Your baby is continuing to grow each week that you remain pregnant. Your baby's crown-to-rump length is nearly 11.2 inches and total length is approximately 18 inches. Your baby weighs approximately 3.5 pounds at this point. Your uterus is about 4.4 inches above your bellybutton and continues to get larger. An average weight gain at this point is between 21 and 27 pounds. The weight that you gain is made up of your baby, placenta, blood supply, uterus, breasts, fat, water storage and amniotic fluid.
Because the ligaments and muscles supporting the small of your back relax and loosen in order to get ready for childbirth, your back may be aching from now on. There is usually nothing that can be done to prevent backaches, only to make them more comfortable. Many women get heartburn during these last few weeks of pregnancy because the oversized uterus leaves less room for the stomach and the contents within the stomach. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help relieve the discomforts of heartburn.
This week marks an incredible milestone in your baby's lung development. Before now, the air sacs and branches in your baby's lungs were present but not functional. The lungs were not able to inflate properly. However, now there is surfactant being produced in your baby's lungs. Surfactant prevents your baby's lungs from collapsing outside of the uterus and the baby is able to take in air and breathe properly. The fetal ear is almost completely developed both inside and out. Your baby can hear your voice and other familiar sounds that she will recognize after birth. Your baby is putting on white fat under the skin and the skin's color is pink instead of red at this point. Your baby's fingernails have grown to the end of her fingers and she may scratch herself while she is in the womb.

Julz-no loan protection... No working at home, yesI am applying for medical reasons unemployment. Bedrest is cuz the drive is too long and stressful & if contractions were to start again while driving I may not make it to hospital in time to save baby or me since last c sec scar had less than two years to heal before I got preg again so more chance of a rupture due to contractions & that this is my third. So... Boss says no work period cuz he can't be liable should something happen to either of us.

Sorry I didn't updated, I am going to the docs in the morning. Still feeling pressure but I'm taking it easy. If contractions start, I'm to head to L&D asap. I've been staying of my feet, but I'm pretty sure bed rest it's in my near future.

seventh-My 2 (almost 3)year old is back and forth about 'her baby boy'. She tells perfect strangers that 'her boy is named DJ'. Of course they always need an interpretation and an explanation! Sometimes she will ask, 'DJ going too?' But most of the time she is really good about telling Daddy, 'DJ in Momma's tummy. He's my boy.' :) I worry that she will still want him to be in my tummy once he gets here! That or she will still think there's one inside. LOL

Oh Bri, I hope you get the medical unemployment!! I'm calling the doc today, after having off and on contractions I'm now having extreme pressure.

Well it worked !! cleaned and put the basinett tonight and all the kids were so excited .. OH LOOK ... HE's COMING SOON !!! But Autumn (2) thinks he's outside and still does not accept there is a baby in my belly :) But she knows THIS is his bed !! Funny reality has hit .. the 7th little one is heading our way !!

Jul .. I would most certaily call .. It may be nothing more than your body kicking in to high gear to prepare for the grand finale .. But you should know either way .. and take it easy till you know !! As far as nursing gowns go .. I have never bought one with any of my kids .. I always buy and this time was no different .. I got a 2 peice PJ set from sears super cozy with a button up top ... I will wear it later and after I am done feeding. Thats about the only thing I have bought for my hospital bag. I need to get the rest preped and packed soon. MY BACK HAS LOCKED !! I hate that .. I was outside pulling christmas lights down and cleaning up the property today with the 2 little ones and I came in to have lunch and get nap time rolling after I sat for a few minutes the dogs started barking. SO I 'tried' to get up and couldn't !! so much pain .. I'd like to take a hot shower but I need to go get the other 3 at school in 45mins so I will not be doing that yet !!

Julz, I hope your contractions are nothing to worry about. I am moving to week 32 today! Less than 2 months left, supposing I don't reach week 42 as it happened with my first baby
MommytobeSL - 10 days ago
Julz-I would definitely call, especially with your history of preterm labor. They should be able to do something to stop it if you are dilating. Hope it ends up being nothing.

Gift~ Great deal on the carseats!! I also have back-up or extra car seats in my attic, found a great deal on booster seats so I jumped on it. I have 3 boys now who are 6 & under so they will def come in handy, especially now that this little guy is on his way. I plan to just wear a nursing bra or nursing cami while in the hospital and wear PJ's that are a shirt/shorts set. I'm not buying a nursing gown because I wouldn't use it after leaving the hospital.
Gift-from-God - 10 days ago
Bought two forward facing car seats for $10 a piece!! Now I can turn the 13 month old around and clean the infant seat for the baby. Didn't need the other one yet but for $10 I decided I could save it 'til DJ needs it. Not having much luck finding long, modest Nursing gowns. Don't want to spend much (not that I have much to spend :)) especially since I probably will only wear it while I'm at the hospital. Anybody got one they don't want anymore? :)

Last day in week 31...going out with a bang I guess. I had contractions last night 6 minutes apart for over an hour. I eventually fell asleep but they are still coming just not consistent. Should I call the doc just to make sure I can continue like this. I don't want to be dilated or anything...what are your thoughts??
seventhheaven - 10 days ago
Happy last day of week 31 to me :) gonna get outside and try and get some stuff done .. I pulled out the bassinett yesterday .. Today I will get that ready. More for the kids to have a visual that this newest member of the family will be joining us very soon :) Have a great day belly buddies !!

julz-I think the clothes for me-both p.j's and 'comfy clothes' are going to be the hardest for me to figure out! The first couple of weeks postpartum I feel like I can't find ANYTHING to wear--I HATE wearing maternity clothes after baby gets here! I mean, I've been wearing these huge belly clothes for MONTHS! I'm ready for 'normal' clothes...even if my belly isn't. LOL Since I've never gone anywhere in the past until baby was 3 days old, I haven't had to worry about the imediate need of afterbirth clothes and always had the option of trying different clothes on. As far as 'p.j's'-don't even own some-have one nursing gown but don't feel comfortable in it. Guess I'll have to try to find a new one. Packing for baby is a whole lot easier!!

Bri, I hope bed rest is not too boring nor too stressful. Seventh, nice your baby shower, I hope you enjoy it and get lots of useful stuff.
julz - 11 days ago
Oh yeah I forgot to add, comfy PJ's, nursing bra & comfy going home clothes for yourself.
julz - 11 days ago
Gift~I have packed my bag while in labor & I have shown up at the hospital empty handed not realizing I was in labor...haha It really depends on what your hospital provides. Mine give you everything (for baby they provide diapers, cloth wipies, pacifier, vaseline, t-shirt, nasal plunger thingie, formula ect & for mom they will give you post labor stuff, like the squrk bottle, weird undies, pads, thry also give you body wash, shampoo, toothbrush, lotion ect) But I have heard of some hospitals who don't even give you meals and dont' give you anything for baby, so you may want to check to see what your hospital provides. My bag consists of toiletries, baby blanket baby's first pic outfit & a going home outfit...I was going to bring a nursing pillow but I'm kind of up in the air about it. I will also pack some chocolate & my camera, camera battery, extra phone charger and cash for hubby once we get closer to d-date. I also bring an angel figurine in memory of my sweet angel baby who watches over us. Sorry, I didn't realize I was going on & on..lol
Gift-from-God - 11 days ago
Seventh-haven't even thought about packing a bag.Not even sure what I'm supposed to pack, having had my first two at home.I'll probably wait to pack 'til I'm in labor. --Really not joking.
julz - 11 days ago
What has your employer said, did you see my message to you on week 30...any chance you can get Short Term while on bed rest?? Also look into your loan paperwork, we always pay for extra insurance in case there is a medical emergency so our loans get paid until we are able to work again. It helped alot when my hubby went thru 12 surgeries a couple years ago. Any chance you can work from home?? IS it strict bed rest like you can only get up to pee?? Was what you were going thru last week, preterm labor??
Bri SaenzKaluza - 11 days ago
Julz,
Yes ma'am, bed rest, thinking it will be more stressful than working because I will lose my house, truck, etc... Ugh, not sure what to do. =/
julz - 12 days ago
Bri~your on bed rest?? Sorry hun, I have been there and it gets so boring at times. My advised it take people up on their offers to help you!! And if you have an ipad or e-reader keep them charged they will come in handy on the really boring days. I am hoping for no bed rest this time..fingers crossed. Seventh~I just packed my hospital bag on Sunday. Only because I need to be ready by 33 weeks or so, I have a history of preterm & my first was born at 34 weeks, I want to be ready just in case!!
seventhheaven - 12 days ago
Mama~ No worries I haven't either !! Nothing is ready :/ But my girlfriends have planned a Baby Shower which has turned into a BBQ with all the families ( perfection ) for this coming Sunday .. So after Sunday I will re-group and see what else we may need for this Little guy .. SO has anyone packed a hospital bag yet ?? I haven't done that yet either .. I woke this morning thinking it was Thursday .. bummed when I remembered it was only Tuesday and I have 3 mornings left this week getting the kids ready for school and doing homework !! June 6th can't come fast enough .. can't wait for the kids to get out of school for the summer !!

Had some painful contractions the past couple of days along with a lot of pressure/pelvic pain. My little man is still breech, too. :( But on a happier note...after two weeks of no car, my 'new wheels' are on their way!! A lady from Church is driving a 2003 Ford Windstar to us and should be here within the hour. A guy at Church bought our old car off of us and paid me for it yesterday so I actually have the cash to go register the minivan once she gets here. Kind of nervous what our new insurance policy will go up to but that's part of having a newer, bigger vehicle, I guess. Anyhow, I'm excited and soooo relieved to finally be getting wheels again! I hate being 'stuck'--especially with two little ones 24/7 !!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add...I lost another pound. That puts me at 11 lbs down from my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm not sure why that is happening, my doc is not concerned, but it's a bit confusing for me...I eat like a pig especially this past weekend.
julz - 12 days ago
Just got back from my docs appt. Baby sounds great, but my BP was up so I'm now on weekly appts. They were also a little concerned about all the cramping & pressure I've been feeling. How is everyone doing on this lovely Monday morning??

Oh Brooke...hopefully you start to feel better soon!
And I hear ya about the baby's weight...I prefer a larger baby. Both my kids were in the 8lb range...and I am hoping this one is too...or even more. He was measuring 18' & almost 5lbs at my ultrasound last week...but I don't find U/S accurate. But then at my Dr. appointment yesterday, when he measured my belly it was 34cent. which should put me around 34 weeks....so I don't know lol. I either have my dates wrong {which could be possible) or this is just one big boy!

Hi Ladies! Sorry it's been so long since I've been on! I hope everyone is doing well. Turns out we finally found out why I've been having these terrible cramps, back pain etc. I have Bacterial Vaginosis.... it's been going on for 6 weeks and we just got the results. My only complaint about my midwife office is how slow they are at getting results back. But other then that things are good and hopefully get even better once the antibiotics kick in. My midwife said this baby is smaller then my others which kind of sucks. Olive was 7'10 and Oscar was 8'10 and especially since it's a boy, I'd prefer at least 8lbs, but as long as he's healthy! Wow, Liz that sucks about the fires... you guys just can't get a break. Dragon - I'm sorry to hear about your financial difficulties. It seems like there are many people, especially in the states affected by this... can't be easy!

Gift- maybe double check. In new york, 1 has nothing to do with the other... I definitely think they are taking advantage of your kind natures.
Gift-from-God - 16 days ago
Dragonsoccermom-Can't get unemployment because hasn't worked enough. He does get disability-translats to $486 a month. not a whole lot these days for a family of going on 5. As to the minimum wage thing, I guess the reason they can legally do it is because he does get disability. There are deadbeats who work MUCH slower than he does but since they aren't disabled, they get minimum wage.Crazy, huh?

My BB's have been super sore the past few days...hmmm I don't remember that happening towards the end of my other pregnancies. It's funny how each pregnancy is different with his my 8th pregnancy total, 7th getting this far & it's different from the others..lol

LIZ ~ we woke to over a foot of snow and NO power .. school was delayed due to road conditions .. I KNOW the fear of wild Fires all to well ..Last year Colorado suffered very badly from the Wild Fires here .. Lost of animals and live stock perished in the fires. The reverse 911 calls were so scary .. We had totes packed and ready to go with imporant paperwork baby books some clothes .. The kids had nightmares. The town spend most of last summer on pins and needles watching the direction of smoke. I hope this is not the begining of a terrible fire season for you. Now with that said I understand all this moisture is fantastic for our fire season BUT if one more person posts about how great this snow is for our fire danger I WILL SCREAM !!! I have been in a horrible mood for 3 days due strictly to the weather being cold and snowy and it's MAY !!!!!!

Isn't less than minimum wage illegal? I know in NY you have to be guaranteed ay LEAST minimum wage for hours worked. Also, can he get unemployment? or disability? They are TOTALLY taking advantage & should be caught.
Gift-from-God - 16 days ago
waitingtoexhale-No,I wish it were $12 an hour!!! My husband has had a hard time finding any employment because of his disability. When we moved here, the boss assured us there was plenty of work and, although he would have to start at piece rate, he 'felt confident my husband would be up to minimum wage within 3 weeks'. Six months later he still is on piece rate and one of the main contractors has gone out of business so there has been almost no work for the past two months. After having no work for a week and a half straight,he was glad for anything. However, I feel they are majorly taking advantage of him. Talk about slave labor!! But no matter what man does, God is good and always takes care of us one way or another.
waitingtoexhale - 16 days ago
Gift-from-God, did you mean to say your husband is making $12 an hour before taxes? I'm feeling so sad for your family just thinking that $2 an hour usually only happens in third world countries. Either way, I will pray for God to send all you need your way!!

Lizakn- So sorry about your town. I am sending prayers up straight away!!

Kind of having a panic attack..I am in week 31 & I am sooo not ready for this baby to come at all. I haven't done any shopping, my house is not ready and in reality this baby could come in the next 5 weeks...anyone else in the same boat?!?!?
Gift-from-God - 16 days ago
Dragonsoccermom-Yes,I know I have much to be thankful for. God has been so very good to me and has always been faithful to take care of us no matter what our circumstances.Like I said---crazy pregnancy hormones that act up regardless of my rationalizing! As far as my sister goes-She was the maid of honor at my wedding. I was the last to find out about her engagement and I think originally she was just going to play music from a cd but the sister who is singing the song is struggling with the key changes so she needs someone who can play the music without the key changes. I feel more like the afterthought than the 'thought'.
