Born & Birth stories

By week 32, your baby weighs nearly 4 pounds! The crown-to-rump length of your baby is approximately 11.7 inches and the total length is about 18.9 inches. Your uterus is now 5 inches above your bellybutton. Some doctors do not see their patients every other week until now. So, if you were going to the doctor monthly, you may begin going once every other week now.

Sleeping boy. the baby sleeps 90-95% of the day, and sometimes experiences REM sleep, an indication of dreaming.

Now that your baby has grown so long and your uterus is higher, you might notice a new discomfort. Your baby is probably head-down and may occasionally stretch out and kick you in the ribs. The pressure on your rib cage can make you sore, especially if one of your baby's feet becomes caught. You can prevent this by sitting up straight as much as possible. Because your baby's demands for vitamins and minerals are higher than ever right now, you should continue to take your parental vitamins for the entire pregnancy.

This week your baby's movements will peak. You should continue to monitor the fetal movements daily and address any concerns with your caregiver. The wrinkles in your baby's face are disappearing and fat is still being deposited throughout the baby's body.

The body growth slows down from now on.

Because of the lack of space in the uterus, the legs are drawn up in what is known as the fetal position.

As a preparation for breastfeeding, your baby has learned to root for the breast. The baby will turn its head if touched on the cheek and open its mouth if the bottom lip is tickled. By this time the baby can also suck and swallow in a coordinated way.

mrsmom...a vaginal delivery without complications is usually one night. It can vary however depending on the time of day you delivered and the insurance you have. Commonly though its just one night.

mrsmom - 1.9 hours ago
Hey guys--curious. When I had my twins I ended up in ICU myself. So, I don't know what the standard is on how long one stays in the hospital with a vaginal delivery. Is it one or two nights? I am trying to plan for my girls...

estellablu2 - 3.4 hours ago
Hey all! HOpe everyone is having a great weekend! I had my 32 week ultrasound yesterday and baby boy is weighing approx. 4 lbs. 10 oz at this point! That's in the 70% percentile. My doctors said not to worry and that it's not abnormally large for this point in my pregnancy, but I'm so worried that he'll just continue to climb the charts and I'll end up with a 10 pounder again! I hope not!!! Phew...such a busy weekend...gotta run!

hollienjax - 4.4 hours ago
Oh yea, 4th4me--I feel your pain. I've never been a busty girl. My best assest was always my butt! LOL never had boobs til I had kids. This is also my 4th and even though they grew before, they never grew this much! Even when my milk came in. I was at my skinniest right before I got pregnant this time (which for me equals NO BOOBS!) And I was in a 34-36B and then I changed into my 36C that I had from before and that worked for like a week. And I finally went in and got fitted and the girl said 38D!! I have never ever had boobs like this and never knew my hubby was a boob guy! LOL. I told him to just buy me some boobs and stop knocking me up since that's the only time I ever have any boobs!

hollienjax - 4.5 hours ago
Hey yall! Hope your having a good weekend. We went out to eat last night with our new friends and another couple from his work. Its nice being able to have a couple hours among adults. I think it has really lifted my spirits but I always have to cut the nights short, I get so sleepy and just can't hang right now :) I had to sleep pretty much sitting up last night. My reflux has been sooo bad here lately. I eat Tums by the dozen but about 5 minutes later its not working anymore. I did sleep pretty good on the couch propped up high. I've also been having lots of BH here lately...they don't hurt but are very uncomfortable and he hurts me when he moves. He just feels so heavy, he jabs me here and there and I can feel him hitting my hip bones while I'm sitting up or laying...that's a weird, painful feeling. Oh and on the Boppy...I'm not sure that WalMart has the name brand Boppy. I only say this because the off brands are not as sturdy or firm and just don't work well for breastfeeding or helping the baby sit up when its time for that. They are very nice though and serve many purposes. I loved mine and gave it away and then got an off brand this last time at my shower and it just wasn't the same. I will get another Boppy brand name one this time. Anyways, yall have a great weekend. I'm gonna rest :)

4thbaby4me- Try having H boobs to begin with, God knows what size they are now, and what size they will be after I have this baby, but trust me its not fun! Breast reduction here I come :) people that have small boobs do not complain cuz trust me big ones aint the greatest!!!!! they are just a pain in the a$$, I HATE bra shopping its the worst, and you can never find nice bras, just granny looking bras lol

melisamax - 5 hours ago
Marn- Yes Walmart has a registry :) UGH I couldnt get to sleep for like an hour last night, baby boy was doing some crazy things in there, think I was also having braxton hicks contractions, I was saying in my head now is not the time baby its too early, but then I couldnt get to sleep cuz I was thinking of all the stuff I had to get done if I was really going in to labour and where to go when I got to the hospital, all kinds of stupid stuff then I finally fell asleep, But then this morning my stomach was very tight again! So I dont know whats going on, I have a client coming at 2 today to do a manicure and pedicure I hope I can survive :) today is my major cleaning day(cleaning never ends) but I dont think I'm going to get too much done, I think I should just do a couple light things and relax, I for sure dont need to be going into labour right now. My back is also killing me! This is going to be a fun day :) Lets hope I can make it through

4thbaby4me - 5.4 hours ago
Everyone is talking about how their breasts grew in size and it seems most of you have increased to a C cup. Im jealous, Ive increased from a B to a D cup! I dont just look like I have nice full breasts, instead I look like I have two cantalopes dancing on top of a watermelon! Its just not sexy!

Bri - 8.6 hours ago
kittie79 - Congrats on knowing your date but I have to ask, why so early? That is almost a month early for most of us in this week. Most babies really aren't ready to come out then. I can understand when it is healthier for the baby in the NICU then in the womb but I didn't know you were having problems? Hope everything is ok with you. Good Luck with the induction.

Sorry Marn, I didn't mean to confuse you. I guess I just think everyone knows what a Boppy is because I've been around them for years and year. And, they are sold everywhere. But, as for registries. I am 100% sure Walmart does do registries. Again, I haven't shopped there in years and Canada may be different but I would think so. I did a registry with my son and NO ONE bought off of it. I did get some things I wanted but nothing that was needed. So, after we moved into our condo my husband and I went on a shopping spree. Actually it was more him then me. I was going for the crib and such. We didn't buy the crib until 36weeks because we moved and didn't want to move it too. But, anyhow. We ended up buying everything all at once which was a huge expense. I kind of wish we hadn't bought a bed in bag for the crib and all the accessaries to go with it. He doesn't use the toddler quilt even to this day. I can't keep him under a blanket. HAHA! I found the twin/full bedding that I want when he moves to a big bed but that means all his animal things are going to a waste. Oh well. Good Luck with your registry.

doublemama - My husband thanked me for not making him go to any of those classes. He is like me and learns better by reading and experiencing. Why he hated school so much. Just to listen to someone talk is boring to him. He's had lots of medical training and such so he is actually really good when it comes to be a coach. Have I mentioned lately that I didn't change a diaper until Kekoa was over two weeks old!!! Since he was on paternity leave it was his job while I fed the baby. Loved it! Now I wish I could get him to change a diaper. HAHA!

alittle88 -YAY! I'm so happy for you. That had to be sooo damn scary and even now. Yes, Ellie is doing ok but you always gotta think 'what if?' I haven't been through what you have and still wonder if everything is ok in there. I would be livid if someone did that to me. My inlaws would be all over the hospital as well. No one messes with their babies! HAHA! I'm glad you've talked to a lawyer. I hope you get some sort of compensation and make sure there is a complaint filed in your state for this hospital's neglagence. If i were you I would want everyone to know what they did to you and your baby.

Bri - 8.8 hours ago
Ok, I think I am just about ready to die! I've been asleep for several hours and just woke with the nastiest acid reflux ever! Ugh! It burned my throat sooo bad. It was like when you puke a little in your mouth with something really really gross (not that puking itself isn't gross). This led me straight to the bathroom for Tums and now I can't go back to sleep. Yuck!

doublemama - 12.6 hours ago
i loved my childbirth class...not so much for me but for my hubby. he got so much out of it in terms of how to be a good coach and he did such an amazing job the day of. i totally recommend it for people aiming to go without an epidural. it helped so much that he went in with a plan and the class had us discuss and figure out how to work together to relieve my stress and get me to focus beyond the pain. he thought it was kinda ptless before we went, but even he enjoyed it and has been hounding me for the book they gave us cause he wants to 'study' it real well again lol. i signed us up for a refresher class in case theres anything we forgot this time around.

alittle88 - 12.9 hours ago
great news at the high risk ob today! fluid levels went from 4.6cm to 7cm! yippee!! No hospital stay for me :) She did say that if my levels keep going up and down to expect to deliever at 36 weeks, so I might be hanging out with sfrizzel1 in the hospital. Ellie did great with the NST as well, she is soo active. Makes me feel a little better about the whole shot incident. But yes Avocat, i have been in contact with a lawyer. Big hospital bill plus lots of crying and BS, not happy. Still have not slept but Thanking God that we are both okay for now.

marn-1st-time-mom - 14.2 hours ago
melisamax- good I am glad that i'm not the only one lol...I thought that a boppy was something simple like another name for bottle or something..thought I was having a MAJOR dumb moment haha.. Hey to all those of you from Canada, do you know if wal mart does registering???? If not, where do you think is the best place to register? I was thinking BABY'S R US...what do you think???

kittie79 - 14.3 hours ago
Found out our baby will be here for Christmas!!! We will be going in on Dec 6th to be induced-if i make it that far, been having alot of issues o doc i not sure we will go that long but lets hope. That means 4 weeks and 2 days!!! Hope everyone is doing well!!

kentuckyfinest96 - 15 hours ago
Yeah Im finally 8 months. Less then 8 weeks to grow. Yeah Yeah Yea!!!

Bri - 15.1 hours ago
MyBabySuprise - Thanks! I found a place online that I can order a new jar for like $8 so I'm not too sad anymore. Just frustrated as all Hell! I went on my tour alone too. I have a husband and he never took the tour. HAHA! He was just too busy to go. I've said it before, he's not one to be interested in pregnancy. But, he is a good day. He's doing tubby right now. Giving me a break, although he isn't feeling well. I just have had one of those weeks. Nothing has gone right. I'm breaking, spilling or forgetting things.

nopey - I'm not doing childbirth classes. For me it was almost a waste since I practiced and studied for hypno-birthing. Obviously, I didn't get a chance to use those skills but plan to this time around. I don't know many people that got a lot out of them. I think it's great for people that don't have any idea of what is going to happen but having three sisters and a good friend that's a doula I learned everything from them and the Internet. I'm definately one to research the crap out of everything. Not something a class is going to teach me. Have fun at your classes though. I'm sure if that's how you learn you'll have fun and get a lot out of it. Plus, it's a way to meet other moms in your area.

nopey - 15.3 hours ago
MyBabySuprise: good to hear you decided to go on the tour! I hope you find it interesting... I haven't gone.. but I have the childbirth classes for the middle of nov... Anybody else taking childbirth classes??

MyBabySuprise - 16.1 hours ago
Bri, i am sorry you broke the gift. I keep breaking stuff to. it wastes money and time. I am going on my hospital tour tomorrow & I am excited. I am going by myself but I am OK with that now.

babypeanut26 - 16.4 hours ago
Just wanted to comment on the Boppy pillow...just got one for 29 bucks. They carry them at Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Max. I'm not sure if they have those stores in Canada, but I hope the info will help somebody at least. God bless!

melisamax - 16.8 hours ago
Marn- yes Walmart would have them, I got mine at my baby shower, I was registered at Sears so I know they have it for sure, and the covers as well. LOL I didnt know what Bri was talking about either when she talked about a boppy a while ago! I'm in Canada too :)

marn-1st-time-mom - 16.8 hours ago
well i have 2 wal marts in my city one of them being the largest wal mart in all of north america (or is it only canada???) anyways it's HUGE i love wal mart everything is so cheap :)

Bri - 17.1 hours ago
Target I think is only US? But you can get them at Walmart too, I think? We don't have one close to us so I never go.

marn-1st-time-mom - 17.6 hours ago
oh ok boppy brand..never heard of it..and target...is that only in the states or do we have it here in canada too?? if so we don't have one in the city i live in. Ok yes I have heard of the nursing pillows though...would wal mart have them?

Bri - 18.2 hours ago
I am so damn angry with myself! I can't believe how clumsy and stupid I am becoming! We bought this very squirrel feeder (hand carved and such) from a farmer's market for my MIL's birthday (Nov. 9th!). It was in the garage. After a nice long walk with my son's new wagon I was parking it. Well, I broke the damn thing! Ugh! It's just the bottle part but I have no idea where to get a new one. I need to look up online to see if the farmer's market is still going on because if so I need to head to Redmond tomorrow to see if the guy is still there AND if I can get a new bottle. Ugh! I just need to stop doing things, period!

Bri - 18.3 hours ago
HAHA Marn! Boppy is a brand but because they are the most popular everyone just calls them that. They are a nursing pillow....looks like a half circle. They have 'naked boppys' and colored ones. I suggest a naked boppy because you can buy covers for them. I have two and definately need two! Between blowouts, spit up and whatever else gets on them you will need to wash the covers. They sell them everywhere. You can't miss them. Target has them, Babies R Us. I've even seen them at Pottery Barn Kids. You can use regular pillows but they aren't as comfortable. My husband would sit in his computer chair with the boppy around him and feed Kekoa. It's one thing I pack to go to the hospital with. Yes, it's one more thing to lug but it's awesome!

marn-1st-time-mom - 18.4 hours ago
ok mental block....bri what is a boppy????? And I am planning on breast feeding and don't want my daughter to use a bottle until she is older...should I still have some just in case something happens to my milk supply?????

nopey - 19 hours ago
wow I cannot imagine when everybody is starting to disappear... ohh I wonder who would follow =)

Bri - 19.8 hours ago
sfrizzell1 - Are they inducing or are you scheduling a section? How exciting for you! Can't wait to see pictures of your little angel.

sfrizzell1 - 20.1 hours ago
It's confirmed.... Sophie will be here in 4-5 weeks tops. Seems I'll be the first to deliver. I've posted a blog on my page about our visit today.

sfrizzell1 - 21.2 hours ago
If you want to see my maternity pictures go to my last blog and it will tell you how to view them.

doublemama - 21.6 hours ago
bri, u bring up a good pt with the placenta as well..if the docs dont get all the placenta out, and a peice of it is still retained, it will delay the milk coming in (as well as supply i think). something to keep in mind in case days pass and the milk still hasnt showed up.

embembooshkin - 21.9 hours ago
Finallyababygirl - thanks sweetheart. xxx

mrsmom - 21.9 hours ago
Hey, I was a 34B and am still not a full 34C yet! UGHHH! Last time, I only got to a 36C and that was BARELY! lol I get no pregnancy perks!!! Pimples, bloating, and big belly without the boobs! What gives? lol Hey, I want one of those chocolates!!!!!!

Bri - 22.4 hours ago
NOPEY - I bought my bras because I've already grown as big as I will. The cups on mine have a bit of sag to them because even if you don't go up a size they'll fill out. Mine are already feeling out but will become hard after the milk comes in. They never strunk after finishing my nursing last time, they just became soft. By the end of your pregnancy your boobs should be the right size but you want room for them to fill up with milk.

Bri - 22.4 hours ago
NOPEY - Breastfeeding is really basic. It's not like bottle feeding. We don't absolutely need bottles, formula, etc. Everything you get can be gotten now or later. The must haves for nursing are a bra, pads, lanolin cream, burp clothes (for you and baby) and a boppy. I actually recommend a boppy even if someone is bottlefeeding. My husband liked to use it when he fed expressed milk. It is also nice to have a prop when baby is learning to hold his/her head up and such. Gives them a better look around. And, when sitting. It gives them a pillow to fall back on. HAHA! Lanolin is needed for most but the hospital will have samples to let you have if you don't buy any. Definately bring several nursing pads with you to the hospital, you'll need them. The extras are a pump (which may be a must if you are going to be away a lot as in work), bottles, storage bags/bottles. Nursing tanks are usefull but I never had one and I nursed for almost two years.

On another note about nursing. It is very hard for some women. Even with the best intentions and doing everything right they just can't seem to get the hang of it. A lesson I learned from my sister. With her first, her placenta grew an extra lobe so after delivery the doctors made sure they had all of the placenta. They didn't realize there was an extra lobe which remained inside her. She hemorraged and ended up with a D&C, three blood trans. and an iron trans. It was really scary because she literally almost died from childbirth. Instead of scaring anyone, this is something that never happens and the doctors at the hospital had never seen it. It's not something they look for. So, after all this her body was worn out and her milk was just not happening. The first night home Anna woke up crying. My sister did everything she could to feed her but the little piggy drained my sister and wanted more. So, at 3am my BIL was running to the store for formula and bottles. Lesson I learned is to keep a small container and a bottle just in case. I normally wouldn't recommend supplimenting but sometimes you need to do what you need to do. In the end after my sister healed she was able to recoop her supply and fed my neice for over a year but having that formula in the house helped get through a very rough night. When I went in for my 4D they gave me a bag of goodies. In there is a can of formula. I have it in my pantry. I don't plan on using it but just in case. I already have bottles since my son was in school for the first year so I'm not worried. Just a suggestion for those breastfeeding. Plan for the best, prepare for the worst.

NOPEY - 23.2 hours ago
ok so I'll wait for the bra.. but how about the tank tops.. I guess it comes in S, M , L or XL right?

katesyb - 23.3 hours ago
mikeysmommy---I have terrible heartburn as well....and as I am currently on antiobiotics (zpac) I cannot tkae anyhting for it----or so the instructions say :-(. Nopey--I waited to get a nursing bra until after my daughter was born.....my boobs tripled in size after her birth once my milk came in (I swear it was the only time in my life I had good clevedge!). Before her birth I went from 34 b to 36 c....that was all. This pregnancy I am currently in a 36 c--im hoping they grow again though after the birth!!

mikeysmommyof2 - 23.4 hours ago
nopey--IF you do buy them right now...i would buy them one size up from what fits you right now. Your boobs may not get any bigger btween now and birth...oh but once your milk comes in......you will most definately want the bigger size! and most likely NEED the bigger size!

NOPEY - 23.5 hours ago
I also wonder if I should buy now the nursing bra and tank tops.. I don't know if my boobies will get any bigger. what do you think? I'm 38C righ now pre pregnancy size was 34B +(

LBM.newmom - 23.5 hours ago
ok, someone just gave me a box of chocolats...and i'm here alone...I just cracked the box open and had 2...I'll let you know how many are left before i leave today...this isn't good.

NOPEY - 23.6 hours ago
OK so anything else besides *nursing bra * nursing tank top * lanolin cream * pads * bobby pillow * pump. What else???

mikeysmommyof2 - 23.7 hours ago
nopey--i would also get a couple nusring tanks too. I dont know how modest you are (im not TOO modest) but i know when i wore shirts that required lifting the shirt up to nurse...i like having the nursing tank underneath so i could lift the shirt up and just un snap the top of the nusring tank and bra to feed...that way my belly wasnt hangin out everywhere! lol

mrsmom - 23.8 hours ago
Nopey--you will want some nursing bras too. Also, storing bags or containers. I loved having the Boppy, but it is not necessary. You will want some kind of pump too, but it depends on if you need to stimulate more milk, pump a lot or only once in a while, etc. Like for me, I had to pump after I breastfed each time because my supply was SO low. I am hoping not to have that issue this time and am hoping it was because I wasn't allowed to breast feed for over a week, only pump (preemies in the NICU). I also like having a Hooter Hider so I am more modest and wanted privacy. Anything else guys? I better start remembering...but yes, the cream (lanolin--sp? is what I used and liked), pads and lactation support!!!

NOPEY - 1 days ago
Can someone tell me what are the essencials to have when you breastfeed? pads, cream (what kind??) - I want to have everything I need when I come back from the hospital.

jessmunoz - 1 days ago
Avocat29 - yes end of pregnancy sucks!! Emotions, feeling like a whale, feeling anxious about having or rather not having everything ready for the new arrival... no or worse awkward sex and husband not being the most understanding about that aspect.I think third tri is hardest part of pregnancy..

Finallyababygirl - 1 days ago
I used the Johnson's Nursing pads . They are fairly cheap and seem to work awesome. They were comfortable, and it let your boobs breathe, plus you could stick them in place.

mrsmom - 1 days ago
Anyone else starting to not feel hungry? I swear I am not hungry all day...but when I do eat, it still tastes good. I just try to keep snacking. I guess the baby is starting to hog up the space inside. My hubby tells me...then don't eat. UGH! how stupid! Of course I need to eat...I just feel like I am carrying around Thanksgiving dinner in my tummy all day...a big 4+lb turkey! lol

mikeysmommyof2 - 1 days ago
did i say my heartburn was okay just annoying? well now it feels like a heart attack wanting to come on! oh good lord!!

mrsmom - 1 days ago
Bri--I absolutely HATED the Avent ones too!!! HATED!!! In fact, when I passed mine on, I just threw those away. They were small, bulky, and did not stick at all. I also liked the Medela ones (but I only tried those two). I wish there were ones that had more 'stick' to them. I advise against the Avent ones!

mikeysmommyof2 - 1 days ago
i am having heartburn tight now...its not too bad but man is it annoying! esoecially when taking a deep breath! i NEVER got heart burn with my first son. now i gt it a couple times a week. luckily its nothing not managable...just annoying!
