Born & Birth stories

By week 32, your baby weighs nearly 4 pounds! The crown-to-rump length of your baby is approximately 11.7 inches and the total length is about 18.9 inches. Your uterus is now 5 inches above your bellybutton. Some doctors do not see their patients every other week until now. So, if you were going to the doctor monthly, you may begin going once every other week now.

Sleeping boy. the baby sleeps 90-95% of the day, and sometimes experiences REM sleep, an indication of dreaming.

Now that your baby has grown so long and your uterus is higher, you might notice a new discomfort. Your baby is probably head-down and may occasionally stretch out and kick you in the ribs. The pressure on your rib cage can make you sore, especially if one of your baby's feet becomes caught. You can prevent this by sitting up straight as much as possible. Because your baby's demands for vitamins and minerals are higher than ever right now, you should continue to take your parental vitamins for the entire pregnancy.

This week your baby's movements will peak. You should continue to monitor the fetal movements daily and address any concerns with your caregiver. The wrinkles in your baby's face are disappearing and fat is still being deposited throughout the baby's body.

The body growth slows down from now on.

Because of the lack of space in the uterus, the legs are drawn up in what is known as the fetal position.

As a preparation for breastfeeding, your baby has learned to root for the breast. The baby will turn its head if touched on the cheek and open its mouth if the bottom lip is tickled. By this time the baby can also suck and swallow in a coordinated way.

i love the picture in this week. when we had our last US this was how our baby was positioned... head down, with all hands and feet by the head! i'm really anxious for my next appointment. i just did a 24 hour urine collection to test for protein since i have high BP (160s/100s). on a side note, my hospital is not allowing any visitors during or after delivery due to concerns with H1N1, and there is no nursery for viewing either because they firmly believe in 'rooming in' with your baby.

Quesiton, how many of you are planning to do uninterrupted skin to skin contact for the first hour/90 mins after birth? I really want to do this this time, but I need to talk to the midwife first because I also really wanted to make this a 'family' event lol. I am having my husband and 15 yo daughter there while I deliver but my 12, 8 & 5 yo boys will be in the waiting room and would like to have them come in after I've delievered and all...except that I'm kinda wondering how that will work...not sure if I will be covered up enough or not. I would also like to have DH hold her skin to skin for a bit so maybe the boys can come in while he's holding her so that I can get put together some lol. I am getting so excited about labor. Sounds masochistic, but the prize at the end of the road is worth it!!!

reneemg - I also think it might just be discharge and urine, however, being as how I have now had BV and a bladder infection in the last couple of months, it doesn't hurt to have your doc do a speculum check. I didn't even realize I was having a bladder infection, or BV for that matter, so just for your peace of mind, maybe you can have the doc check you. Plus, they have to do the GBS test soon so they might just go ahead and do that at the same time. Good luck! I'm on Day 3 of anti-biotics for the bladder infection, and the pills are big :o(

sil-n-carlos0110, I am having a really hard time staying asleep eventhough I am exhausted all day. I did the dishes at 2a.m. and a load of laundry the night before last.

sil-n-carlos0110 - 6.2 hours ago
Hello ladies!!! I am so excited to be writing to you all! I had my doctor's visit yesterday, and she was shocked to see how big I got in the past two weeks. She is having me do a growth ultrasound next week because I measured at 34 weeks instead of 32. So I hope that this means my baby will be here sooner! I can't wait to hold her! I keep on feeling like she will be here before the new year! I really wish it goes that way. As far as pain and all that goes, i'm feeling a little lower back pain from time to time. Also the lower vaginal pain. My nightly sleeping patterns are so disturbed now. I fall asleep for like three hours and i'm up for three or four. By the time it's time to get up I am feeling so exhausted and I only get like five hours of sleep total. Then during the day I cannot nap at all!!! Any of you other mommies having this problem?

Berrymama - 16.5 hours ago
What can you do for a shower if you will not know the gender prior to birth? Any idea or anyone who has done this please comment on my poll. Thanks.

MyBabySuprise - 19.3 hours ago
mommy2many, I can't wait to read your birth story. reneemg, sounds like discharge and urine. I could be wrong so you should check with the doctor

LivingMyDream2GIRLS - 1 days ago
Had an ultrasound a few days ago...Our little girl is head down and weighs 4lbs. 5oz. Estimated birth weight is 7lbs. 5oz. according to ultrasound tech. I am measuring 10 days ahead, but they won't change my c-section date. Tech confirmed gender again because I am so convinved my Princess is going to come out a Prince ( I REALLY, REALLY wanted this one to be a girl) and she could show us in great detail that our baby is indeed a 'she'..LOL. So surreal seeing the ultrasound. She went from a little bean who we could barely see to a huge baby that wouldn't stop kicking the techs device. Can't wait to meet our second little Princess.

chick ~ my first was with drugs went into labor on my own at about 37.5 weeks. i'm hoping to make it to 37 weeks this time but my lil man is measuring 3 ahead and has been for the last 3-4 months and i will be doing drugs again. i just dont think i could handle the pain. i also felt the ring of fire with my first as my epi did not seem to work during her head. lol

mimi2b2aboy - 1 days ago
renee ~ that could just be ur mucus plug your starting to lose. when your water breaks or leaks it is not slimmy. :)

reneemg - 1 days ago
This is TMI but I have to ask. I'm leaking a watery discharge and its somewhat slimy. Is that amniotic fluid or just some type of discharge. I have had all c sections so my water has never broken and I don't know anything about it. Help.

Darcey2009 - 1 days ago
Re: restless legs, yes, I've had it for weeks and it's been a right pain, I have found however, that showering right before I go to bed seems to relieve it for long enough for me to get to sleep at least.

mommy2many - 1 days ago
Had my midwife visit yesterday and both girls are still head down and I'm doing great. After Dec 18th I am good to go for our home birth. I don't think they are too eager to go anywhere soon because neither one has even dropped into position yet. It is so neat to feel them pushing their hands towards each other and playing.

chickster- Yes the count down is on. I am hoping for a natural drug free labour. The midwives forced the gas mask on my face with my first and I hated it. My second was drug free and I felt much more in control. I have a feeling this one may arrive early but my hospital only takes you from 34 weeks onwards...so one more week and I'm safe. Of course I hope I get to 37 weeks though.

chickster - 2 days ago
an(ela- can you get bio- magnesium or a magnesium-calcium supplementy where you are? 3 per day initially and then after a week 2 per day sorted me out- and the extra calcium is always handy!!

an9ela - 2 days ago
anyone else get restless legs? any suggestions how to overcome it?

chickster - 2 days ago
Wow, week 32 just crept on me- 5 weeks till we're full term girls... I'm starting to recall the 'ring of fire' with DD- eeekkk. What sort of labour are you all going for? I've had 2 drug free VB- first pain free, second induced and EXTREMELY painful!! I'm hoping for a spontaneous VB this time- no drugs. xx

lovelyluney - 2 days ago
checkin in from week 30, the baby in this pic is really crammed in there now huh! lol.

chrisplus2 - 2 days ago
I live in the Middle East and method of delivery is the patients choice, and yes it was covered by insurance although more expensive then vaginal birth. The doctors sometimes push for a 'normal delivery' but in the end it is the womens choice. yeah to choices!!!!

reneemg - 2 days ago
All of you ladies should go to parents.com and take the 'am I going into labor soon' quiz. I did it and it was so fun. Yall should try it.

nerock82 - 2 days ago
OMG baby is moving so much very active..im feeling tired and sleepy evryday..ive been gaining so much right now,dr.says to eat more protein than carbo..have u guys do some excercise already?i cant go walking outside coz i dont have someone to come with me so instead i do walking excercise at our stairs 10steps back and forth for 15 minutes..lol..im feeling like my baby wants to come out now i can feel her like just near my V..

reneemg - 2 days ago
Ok I swear that at any moment I will look down and I will have a lil foot or hand hanging out of me. Lol. It seems like he's trying to claw his way out. Which isn't good at all considering I have had all my kids by c section. This baby is already a handful. Can't wait to finally hold him. Me and fiance have a net goin on who he will look like. Hair and eye color etc. Ready to see who wins. Lol

M2G - 2 days ago
jessmonoz ~ with my first I lost 30lbs having her. With my second I lost about 25lbs in the hospital. I am praying I lose atleast that much this time. I am weighing right now what I weighed when I delivered #2....And I still have 7 weeks left! I hope I don't gain anymore. I hate being so heavy. And breastfeeding did not help me one bit to lose the weight.

M2G - 2 days ago
chrisplus2 ~ where I live in Canada you are NOT allowed to choose to have a c-section. Unless there is an underlying medical concern that would require a c-section. MyBabySurprise & Mama 2 B ~ it's amazing what your body can do to birth a child. My sister is about 105lbs, 5'9 and delivered my nephew vaginally, he was born weighing 10lbs 9oz and 24' long....So anything is possible!!!LOL A recovery from a c-section can be easier or harder then a vaginal delivery, it all depends on how your body heals and everyone is different. With 2 little ones at home I can imagine that my healing process this time around may take a little longer and be a little harder. But there isn't much choice....

3rdOnBoard - 2 days ago
Just letting you know that I had my refresher birthing class last night and I asked about the stabbing pain below. ALL of the girls in the class are having the same problem so we are not alone. The midwife said that it is just the pressure of the baby pushing down combined with the muscles and ligaments starting to relax in preparation for the birth.

Well ladies, I will be moving to week 33 tomorrow, hope to see you all there.

ALYSSAASMIMI - 2 days ago
HERE I AM AGAIN!! 32 WEEKS. We went to the dr. today and I now weigh 178. I gained about 40 pounds so far. Which is actually good considering I'm having twins. So I will be delivering in about 6 Weeks, which is the week of Dec. 28th. Well I'm ready, we are ready. This pregnancy has been awsome so far and I can't complain. I ate 5 slices of pizza today, But i dont feel bad since this is the month they will gain fat. lol.

MyBabySuprise - 2 days ago
jessmunoz, I am over 50lbs up & crossed over 200lbs about 2 months ago.

hi ladies,..i've been such an emotional wreck lately,..over nothing. Thank God my husband encourages me to talk/cry/vent to him. i don't get it, nothing to worry about but sometimes i feel that lump in my throat that makes me feel like crying....hope this passes away, anyways im excited as we get near our dates.,maybe im unconsciously scared since this is my first...

jessmunoz - 2 days ago
DawnMd - yes i gained about the same as you and just finished off fatty take away for dinner, so i suppose i only have myself to blame..not looking forward to weighing this much and not having the excuse of being pregnant, i think they say you only drop 10lbs or so from delivery, so i'll be left with about 40lbs to shift and will be in the larger ladies stores, my ideal weight is 126lbs and am normally tall and slim! I'm closer to 200lbs these days...

redlipstick - 2 days ago
Ugh I really hate the military life sometimes :o(. DH is finally home from deployment to be able to make it to one of my appts. and they secured the barge this afternoon so he can't get off the ship until 3. My appt. is at 3:10 and no way he could make it there in that time. I feel like nothing goes my way these days. My stupid insurance finally approved my maternity belt and it should be here in like 2 weeks soooo for the next two weeks I get to suffer. Nice. On the up side, I get to hear baby girls hb today so that's always nice :o)

Hey ladies, I am here from week 11 and have a question. I am pregnant with my second baby but at 7 1/2 wks was diagnosed with a placental abruption (where theres a tear between placenta and uterus). Happens 1 in 200 pregnancies and not really known why. I had a miscarriage in Aug then 2 weeks after d & C got preg with this one. I have had very heavy bleeding twice in the last month but baby is still ok. I just have to be on strict bedrest til it heals completely which could take several months. I am just wondering if anyone or anyone you know has had this and if so how long did they have to be on bedrest? did it eventually heal? Did they go onto having a full term natural birth? Was baby ok? I am just worried and my dr wont give me a lot of answers. It's frusterating. He said it could go either way so I am just not looking forward to my baby being here til he/she is actually safe in my arms because I am almost 3 months pregnant. It will be devasting loosing a baby at this point or when I'm 4,5,6+ months pregnant. Please write me on my page and let me know if you've had this same thing happen and what the outcome was whether it was good or bad. Please. Thank you!

cantwait4two - 2 days ago
I would choose a c-sec over regular birth. Lucky for me I have to have c-sec because of a fibroid, but in this day and age everyone should get to do what they want as long as it doesn't harm anyone. That is the good thing about living in a civilized society.

Mama2B 01-10-10 - 2 days ago
i have a friend who is trying to conceive right now, and her doctors have said that they will allow an elective c-section. she is scared of the worst happening because her mother and her husbands mother had issues with vaginal delivery. i personally think she's just overly concerned, but everyone's different as far as what's comfortable for them. i'm a pretty tiny person... 5'6 and 110 lb pre-pregnancy, that's a pants size 0-2. i've always been a thin person and i definately have fairly narrow hips, but my doctor examined me around 12 weeks or so and actually felt my pelvic bones and said that i should be able to deliver vaginally. i guess i just want the experience of a vaginal birth if possible.

MyBabySuprise - 2 days ago
chrisplus2, can your doc call mine and tell him that we can choose C-sections and does your health insurance cover that? I want a c-section. I have narrow hips and don't want to push a human being through my body if I don't have to.

DawnMd - 2 days ago
chrisplus2 - Where do you live that they'll let you have an elective c-section? Here in Canada, there has to be a medical reason.

chrisplus2 - 2 days ago
M2G I chose c-section over vaginal birth. There was no medical reason whatsoever, just my personal preference. I am totally at ease with my decision.

Mama2B 01-10-10 - 2 days ago
doing my 24 hour urine collection today! whoop-dee-doo......... as if it wasn't enough fun the first time around. shouldn't complain though, better to be safe than sorry i suppose, especially with BP readings in the 160's/100's. it's crazy to think that a few of us will probably start having our babies in the next couple weeks. if i don't go early due to high BP/preeclampsia, i'm sure i will go late.

redlipstick - 2 days ago
Hello week 32!!! Finally!! Went to the hospital last night cause I was having a lot of back pain/contractions turns out I have a bladder infection. Nothing they could do about my back pain though, bummer. But hey at least the trip wasn't for nothing. I will see my Midwife today.

M2G - 2 days ago
Brittney ~ I don't think anyone 'chooses' a c-section over a vaginal delivery. Sometimes medical reasons play an important role in the decision to have a c-section. I will be having my third c-section in Jan. My first daughhter was born via emergency c-section. After 17 hours of labour, we were minutes away from losing her and a c-section was the only option for a safe delivery. 15 months later I delivered my second daughter via c-section. Having a vaginal delivery wasn't really an option as my pregnancies were too close together and the risks of a vbac were too high. And again, 15 months later I will deliver my third (a son!) via c-section. I have no regrets over having a c-section. After the trauma and labour I went through with my first I am happy to have a scheduled c-section!

I am so irritated!!! I have never had to do FMLA paperwork, so I turned it into my doctor office and they faxed it to my employer today. Turns out that they only filled it out to cover the 6-8 weeks after I have the baby. I needed them to fill it out so that I could use it for appointments and if I got sick now. I have no vacation time and I have to make up all of the time that I miss for my appointments! That put me working from 7-5 today. That is just too long!

DawnMd - 3 days ago
I had a Dr. appointment today... she said Little d's is head down as I thought. I've been feeling hiccups down there for a while now. I'm just happy I only gained 4 lbs in the last 3 weeks considering that puts me at 47 lbs since becoming pregnant! My Dr. doens't seem to have a problem with it, but my knees are not enjoying the extra weight. Anyone else feel like you've gained a little too much?

BrittanyMomOfOne - 3 days ago
Hi Ladies I am a new member but I read your posts every week! I love this sight! I am due Jan 10, not sure what we are having. I have one beautiful 4 year old daughter (she'll be 5 in December). I am getting so excited. I have had the pain down there for a few weeks now mostly when I walk. My doctor (who is amazing!) says it's completely normal. I was wondering about the women who know the date of their C Sec. Where are you from? Why did you choose to have a C Sec. as opposed to a natural delivery?

reneemg - 3 days ago
Ah... 32 weeks finally. So excited to have the weeks and days slowly move forward.

nikki4twilight - 4 days ago
I remember when I had my first child, I came home from the doctors and took a nap. When I awoke I really had to urinate. I tried getting up but was in so much(stomach) pain I could not walk. I even tried yelling for help but even that was painfull. I eventually had an accident. And the pain went away after about 30 minutes. Has this ever happened to anyone?

armywife21 - 4 days ago
Thank you everyone!!! If any of you get any news from your doctors about absolutely ANYthing, plz post because I rely on this site alot when I'm home and have all of these questions lol. With my husband gone, I get bored and do research...esp since this is my first child. I may not post much but I read lots!!

3rdOnBoard - 4 days ago
I have had the sharp pain up there for weeks and weeks now...feels like a bubble of water up there waiting to burst and comes and goes at random times. I told my Dr but he is so unconcerned about anything, he just smiled at me. I have not had a single internal this pregnancy. I have a refresher class starting tomorrow night so I will ask the midwife there and let you all know what she says.

tootsieroll - 4 days ago
I have been having pains off and on for a while now also. I know I need to walk more but my belly just feels so heavy. The more I walk the more my feet hurt and sweel. I was going to ask my doctor about taking me off work but they are going to throw me a shower on 12/4/09 at work...I just can't miss that. Can you believe it is less than three weeks from now???
