Born & Birth stories

Your baby's crown-to-rump length at this time is approximately 14.4 inches and the total length is approximately 21.5 inches. The average baby weighs a little more than 7 pounds now and is preparing for birth. You are probably as big as you are going to get and may be uncomfortable now. Most women gain between 25 and 35 pounds during their pregnancy. Your uterus is about 7-8 inches above your bellybutton now.

Although your baby continues to grow and develop inside of your uterus, there is not much room for him to move about. All of your baby's organ systems are now complete and the lungs were the last to fully mature.

If you are uncomfortable with your pregnancy at this time, you are not alone. Most women are ready to deliver their babies. It would be very unusual for you to not be uncomfortable at this time. Your uterus has grown a lot and now fills your entire pelvis and abdomen. Try not to ask your doctor to induce you, unless it is medically necessary. Your cervix is ripening in preparation for delivery and your bladder is under a lot of pressure. You may feel nervous about the upcoming labor. You will know when you are in labor because contractions will get worse when you move around and they will also get stronger and more frequent. Other signs of labor are the breaking of your water or a bloody show as the mucus that plugged your cervix becomes dislodged.

Most of the lanugo on your baby should be gone by now. Your baby still may have some on his shoulders and in the creases of his body. Your baby's toenails have reached the end of his toes. The umbilical cord is about a half inch thick and may be wrapped around him. The umbilical cord still supplies the baby with nutrients that he needs. After delivery, your baby's umbilical cord will be clamped and cut. After it is cut, he will be an independent human being and must perform all of his body functions on his own. Your baby will get antibodies from your body that give his immune system a boost.

Baby baby- are you on Facebook? You can look me up and friend me... If you want - Kathryn Manzella (Chicago)

babybaby21986 - 232 days ago
After the birth of Samuel, my hubby ( still shaking from the birth LOL) 'you still want to go for number 4?' LOL and of course, I said yes :p kids drive me nuts, but I love them so much, and they make me laugh and brighten the day :) wouldn't be great if we all come back together in here pregnant with the next one ? LOL I just really enjoy talking to you all and that is one thing I am going to miss a lot when all babies will be out

babybaby21986 - 232 days ago
Girls, I hope you will have your babies very soon. The end is always so long !!! I am so glad my little man is out LOL other way, we found someone that is going to take the lease yessss !!!! The only thing is that we need to be out by Saturday. THIS SATURDAY o_O we had been looking like crazy everywhere (that is one of the reason I haven't been able to come in here). So expensive everywhere. We finally found one last Saturday, and put the application in. We hope we are going to get it. If not, well, look like we may have to sleep on the street LOL right now, I am in the middle of packing everything, feeding the baby, running after the other two. Boy life cannot get any busier LOL

Baby2comin - 232 days ago
The count is on Kitty. :) How have you been feeling? I keep getting these really sharp pains in my sides, often when I roll over. I'm assuming they are round ligament pains. Oh man do they hurt!!!

kitty79 - 233 days ago
Baby2- hope so. I have 8 more days until c-section. Doctor doesn't think I'll go sooner naturally and I'm hoping no complications

Baby2comin - 233 days ago
I'm hoping this is my week. :)

rayansmama - 255 days ago
Thanks littlesqirrel...we are actually getting some help...religious therapy. It's been working for the last two months. I just get overwhelmed very easily. I spoke to my doctor about getting Meds and she says if the symptoms get worse to contact her. I have a lot of family around so I'm trying to keep busy with them. One day at a time....

littlesquirrels - 256 days ago
@rayansmama you wrote sometime ago about your DH being abusive to you and how he would take your children if you left. I am sorry you're going through this. These threats likely make you depressed. You can talk to someone before you leave the hospital. Ask to speak to a social worker or psychiatrist. You don't have to suffer.

G7 - 259 days ago
Man I would be really angry with a comment from a doctor like that too - unacceptable. I was depressed a while ago due to being very sick, meds helped me get through as did a great therapist. The main thing I had to tell myself is that it won't always be like this. AND I had to learn to give myself a break because I was really hard on myself - I had to give myself permission to be what I considered 'weak'. Tell yourself good messages and give yourself permission to take care of YOU! Hugs my friend!

Ryan's, I had a similar situation with my last pregnancy. I had some issues in my life that I was struggling with. I woke up crying every night and couldn't stop. I wanted to die every day, and I could find no reason to smile. I told my doctor and he immediatrly wanted to put me on anti-depressants. I asked him about side effects, and he brushed me off saying, 'it's up to you if you want to take them, but it's only going to get worse after the baby's born. You don't want to get postpartum depression like Andrea Yates, do you?' Well, I didn't end up taking the pills, mainly because I was so angry at his comment. And I didnt get post-partum depression, either. I felt 100 percent better once the baby was born and those pregnancy hormones were gone. I'm sure the pills would have been fine, and helped during the pregnancy, I was just too pissed at the doctor to take them (irrational, I know, nothing makes any sense when I'm pregnant). Good luck, sweetie!

rayansmama - 260 days ago
Thank u ladies...I think I will have a talk with my ob and see if I need Meds or therapy. Most days I'm ok and other days I'm just a mess. It could be my crazy hormones or a start to a postpartum depression. I am just praying it's nothing too friend went through the depression and it took her months to get better.

G7 - 260 days ago
Ryans - thinking of you. One day at a time. Focus on the things that you are grateful for such as your son and new one on the way. Make sure you talk with your doc for some support and if he's not a good person to talk to talk to the nurses. We are here for you!!

AmyLynn82 - 260 days ago
Glad your little man is here Adiro! Sounds like you had a crazy delivery! All the best

AmyLynn82 - 260 days ago
Rayansmama- we are here for you. There are times when I feel completely overwhelmed and don't know how I am going to get out of bed and do it all over again. It's just one day at a time. Remember that there are people out there to support you if you need it. Sometimes we even need some medication to help balance things out. Don't be ashamed to ask for help. We all need it sometimes. I really hope things turn around for you xo

Delylah - 260 days ago
Adiro-Congrats on your baby! So sorry to hear about your 21 month old and her pneumonia! :-( Hugs! - 260 days ago

I will pray for you, always here for you hugs from far away but my prayers are always near by keep us updated. I am posting in the 40 group cuz i am past due

Adiro - 260 days ago
Ps : last night I was barely keeping my eyes open while typing, sorry for all the typos, actually my iPad made them worse because the keyboard was set on my other language and everything got really messed up

Adiro - 260 days ago
Dear Ryansmommy, please try to stay strong, there is nobody , nobody in the world who can take care of your babies and love them the way you do! They need you more than you think! You are the most important person in their lives! And in another order, please don't wish or accept to get induced if you or somebody else around is sick with a cold, it is incredibly stressful and risky if they pass it to a newborn! My baby girl is so sick now, with lung infection or pneumonia, and she spreads it's everywhere my husband also got sick, I am doing everything on my power to prevent the infant from getting sick to, because the fatality rate in newborns is horrible

bonniemama - 261 days ago
Wow, Adiro! What a story! What an entrance your little man made into the world!! Congratulations! To all the waiting mamas, I think of you every day and pray for comfort and patience for you. These last days and weeks just drag on and on....

baby3andme - 261 days ago
Congrats redding, tiff, and adiro! So happy all the babies are doing well.

rayansmama - 261 days ago
I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and have been wanting to go into labor right at 37 weeks...but now I'm thinking I can use some time off. My husband is sick with a son is sick with a fever and cold and barely eating again. Have been getting no sleep whatsoever. I don't know if any of u have dealt with postpartum depression but I'm thinking I will be going through it. Those of u that have followed my posts know it's been a rough couple of months for me. Still not better and I can't keep it together anymore. I cry all the time...even prayed I would die giving birth. It's embarrassing even to post that but maybe some of u can give me advice.

rayansmama - 261 days ago
Congrats u guys...amazing birth stories...glad u all had happy and healthy babies...

Adiro - 261 days ago

Adiro - 261 days ago
So a day before I was fully closed, and siuposed to start with cevadryl but I used primrose oil pills inside and dilated to a 2 til following day! So dr was able to break my water directly, and started pitocin right away. By 1pm contractions were quite hard, I had a few off the chart, so the nurse told me that if I want an epidural, better get it now, bc later they had four Csections and will get too busy for me. I agreed, then got epi after an hour more of waiting, at 2pm. I send my DH home, thinking it will take a while. An hour later, I feel like pushing! The nurse checks me and tells me that I am,fully pen! I call home my husband but complications he just sent home my sis, and has nobody to babysit my daughter, has to wait I try to hold baby in, because I want my husband to be there for birth!well ,long story short,I had to keep baby in for two hours! Finally when all arrived , nurse comes, tells me to do a practice push, haha. The. She starts screaming after doctor, while holding the baby in with one hand, the doc comes running, no gloves on, just in time to catch my bebe!! I GAVE BIRTH LAUGHING, it was so funny, I did get to tear very badly, which hurts now because I am all stiched up between v and a,but it will pass I assume.... So grateful and happy to have my baby!

Adiro - 261 days ago
So for those of you who want to know. My adorable baby boy Nicholas was born by induction last Friday, December 20, at 7lb6oz and almost 20 inches long. He was IUGR and I also had so little amniotic fluid, but bebe was smart enough to be heavier than all predictions, haha. I had a great birth experience, so miuch better than with my daughter!

Adiro - 261 days ago
Hello ladies! Congratulations to all of u who had their babies, I have a lot to read and a lot to catch up to, but this is the first time I have internet in over a week! I have news too! Yay!

Congrats Redding! That is a fast labour!!!! Good for you for getting the birth you wanted. That's awesome! She is a great size too.

AmyLynn82 - 261 days ago
Congrats Tiff! So glad everything is ok with you and Myles. I was starting to worry. NICU time is tough. Mine were there for a few hours for breathing quickly and low sugars. It was torture. The only time I cried... All the best!

3ringcircus - 261 days ago
Congrats redding and tiff!

Noelle Elizabeth was born December 27 @ 2:23am, 8lbs 6 oz and 21 1/4 inches long! She is such laid-back and snuggly baby! Hello ladies. Well baby Myles is a week old today. Had trouble getting spinal but other then that just sore. Didn't get to keep Myles in room he got put in nicu with breathing issues. Finally released me Christmas eve evening. He weighed 7 lb 6 oz 19 inches long.

G7 - 263 days ago
ryansmama - I'll still be here with you! :-) My dr hasn't even checked me. I guess there is no real reason to yet. Right now I'm content with waiting - I just get pretty achy during sleep and then crabby. I just have a 'one hour at a time' attitude at work and now that I don't have to do days in a row I think it will be okay.

rayansmama - 263 days ago
Still no changes for dilation. Cervix is softening a little. I will be 37 weeks on Monday so I guess I have a while to go...

rayansmama - 263 days ago

bonniemama - 263 days ago
Hi ladies! Just wanted you to know I have been reading this forum, waiting with you all. :) My baby is a week old and doing so well. I have been enjoying snuggling and caring for him. we've been too busy with Christmas and family staying with us (to help?), which takes my attention away from little man. :( I cant wait til everyone leaves so I can just lie in bed and stare at/sniff him! Lol! I am so glad the pregnancy is over. I have almost all my energy back and feel like a million bucks! Pregnancy time drags by so slowly, but soon as the baby comes, time starts to fly!

*wyatts*mommy* - 264 days ago
G7 you will make such a wonderful mom! Enjoy every single moment even those crazy sleepless nights! With Wyatt I was in such a hurry to see his next 'first' or to get to the next stage of his life that I forgot to enjoy the moments that he was in and before I knew it he was no longer a baby then past the toddler years and now a child. I'm making sure to really stop and savor every snuggle, smile, touch from these guys and with Wyatt too. There's just something so magical about being a mom and watching your children become amazing little people who love you unconditionally no matter what. You have waited patiently so long I can't even imagine the amount of excitement you have!

G7 - 264 days ago
tears keep rolling out of my eyes. I've wanted to be a mom since I was 4. (I'll be 42 in 6 weeks). My whole life has been dedicated to working with children from infants through young adults. I love watching people grow and develop and trying to learn each person's unique personality. I've been married for 5 years, 4 of those years were full of pregnancy and loss. I can't believe I am getting what I've always wanted, it is making it really hard to keep waiting, to focus on anything but baby, to enjoy these big kicks and uncomfortablness that is just my body preparing. . . I'm going to make cookies!
