Born & Birth stories

You are definitely considered full-term now and you are probably anticipating the arrival of your newborn. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is around 15 inches and your baby is now about 21.5 inches long total. Your baby weighs about 7.5 pounds and your uterus is about 8 inches above the top of your bellybutton.

Your official due date will be sometime this week and you probably have a prenatal check up this week to check for labor progress. Try to stay calm while you are waiting for labor to begin. You should have all of your bags packed and ready to go and your birth plan should be in place. Your labor coach should know what your wishes are and you should be able to get in touch with your labor coach at all times. Use false labor contractions to practice breathing and relaxation techniques that you will use during the actual labor itself.

Your baby continues to move further down the birth canal and this is measured in stations. Station describes the degree to which the presenting part of the baby has descended into the birth canal. The 0 point is a bone landmark in the pelvis, the starting point of the birth canal. If your baby's head is at a -2 station, it means the head is higher inside of you than if your baby were at a +2 station.

After your baby is born, she will be weighed and measured. Your baby may cry loudly or she may be dazed from medications. The doctor will suction your baby's mouth and throat with an aspirator. The nurses will dry her off and place a hat on her head to help keep her warm. Security tags will be placed around her arms and ankles and your baby will be swaddled in a blanket. You will be given the chance to hold your baby right after you have delivered. Shortly after, the nurses generally take the baby to the nursery for a bath and other routine procedures. Your baby will be given Apgar scores according to her condition at 1 and 5 minutes of birth. A total of 10 points can be scored. A score of 10 is unusual and most babies receive scores of 7, 8 or 9. A baby with a low 1-minute score might need to be resuscitated and usually the 5 minute score is much higher after he has time to adjust to life outside of the uterus. APGAR SCORE:
*Heart rate of baby-If your baby does not have a heart rate a score of 0 is given. If the baby's heart rate is less than 100 bpm, a score of 1 is given. If the heart rate is over 100 bpm, a score of 2 is given.
*Respiratory effort of the baby- If your baby is not breathing, a score of 0 is given. If breathing is slow and irregular, a score of 1 is recorded. If your baby is crying and breathing well, a score of 2 is recorded.
*Baby's muscle tone-If your baby's arms and legs are limp and flabby, the score is 0. If some movement is observed and the arms and legs bend a little, a score of 1 is recorded. A score of 2 is given to babies that are active and moving.
*Reflex irritability of the baby-If your baby does not respond to stimulus, a score of 0 is given. If there is a small reflex when the baby is stimulated, a score of 1 is recorded. If your baby responds vigorously when stimulated, 2 points are given.
*Baby's color- If your baby is blue or pale, a score of 0 is given. A score of 1 is given if your baby's body is pink and the arms and legs are blue. If your baby's entire body is pink, a score of 2 is recorded.

At the time of birth, the baby has a total of 300 bones. Some bones will fuse together later, which is why an adult has only 206 bones.

Almost there! Did you know that we also have a month by month calendar for babies? You can find it in the menu under `Babies`: Month by month

Sehass, I kno exactly what u mean. This is my 4th and the longest I have ever been pregnant!! Oh and for the people, I leave a message on voicemail and post on FB 'Do NOT call, text, email or write me asking ignorant questions about if the baby is here. As if Im gonna have the baby and no one kno about it!' Geez! People have no idea how frustrating and tiring it is to be preggo and then go over and then have to deal with their ignorant questions and comments on top of it!! Can u tell how pissed that makes me, LOL

sehass - 2 days ago
I just can't believe I am this overdue with #3!!! I am so beyond annoyed. I think the worst part is all the people asking me every second!! Every neighbor, family member, friend and stranger 'no baby yet??'. Ugh!! Shut up!!

4ttc5th - 2 days ago
nearly 41 weeks pregnant had my second sweep today hope it works for me :)

Bgscoobyluver - 2 days ago

Bgscooby, I am still here but it looks like I wont be for long. I am getting mild contractions, back pain, and a bloody show. Hopefully by morning my little man will grace me with his appearance. I will be 7 days over in a few hours. I really hope it is close for you too!!

Bgscoobyluver - 5 days ago

Bgscoobyluvr: I know ur going to go soon...not much longer now! God bless you, girly! You are a trooper. A gf of mine just gave birth to her 5th baby in April and went exactly 14 days overdue... I am still sore, but my boobs are killing me!! Lol...

lori0743 - 6 days ago
Thank you ladies... and don't worry your time is coming soon! It was an amazing experience! I wouldn't trade it for the world. Avayah is doing better today. They put her on soy and her aspirations have decreased... keep us in your prayers and I am still praying for everyone as well. For the ones that have delivered, and the ones still waiting:-)

mom2beof5 - 6 days ago
Congrats Lori!!!!

4ttc5th - 6 days ago

Andy20 - 6 days ago
Congratulations Lori!! It is wonderful that you finally got to meet your baby girl. Hopefully the digestive issues sort out soon so she can go home with you :) bgscooby, I know what you mean about forever! The last few days have felt more like months and I am so irritable it makes it worse lol. Hey 4tt5th, I am feeling like a great big cranky whale lol, how are you feeling?

Bgscoobyluver - 6 days ago
congrats lori!!

lori0743 - 6 days ago
Hi ladies! My little girl was born on June 11th at 3:36p.m, after a 15hour labor!!! Her name is Avayah Jayde Brandon.. she weighed 6lbs 11oz and was 21inches long! Here is my story.... I got up early Tuesday morning at 12:15a.m, and used the restroom. When I was on the toilet, I felt a pop in my back and heard it. It was the strangest feeling, and I was unsure of what it was. I stood up and felt a trickle down my leg, and it followed by a larger gush. I screamed for my fiance, and yelled'Babe, my water broke!'... lol..I never saw anyone move so fast, and before I knew it he was in the bathroom getting dressed and putting in his contacts! He was very stern and said 'c,Mon, get dressed and lets go!'. I think he was more scared and excited than I was. When I say my water broke, I mean it! Lol... it just kept coming out and I couldn't control it. I couldn't wear pants, so I wore a comfortable skirt, and threw on a T-shirt. When I called the doctor, I informed her I lived an hour and a half away nd asked if I should leave?! But at that point, I had no contractions. She told me to go ahead and come in. What usually takes over an hour, took only 45mins with my fiance driving! I tried to calm him and tell him that we had time, and not to drive crazy, but my plite was in vain. He was so scared and nervous and it made me feel more love for him at that moment! He was so cute. Anyway, we arrived at the hospital sometime around 1 am. They wheeled me straight to labor and delivery, and because my water was gushing so much, I was not allowed to leave the bed from that point on. So began my labor. I started to feel contractions soon after arriving, but it wasn't bad until around 10 a.m. the nurse told me I was only at 3 cm and could be there awhile, and suggested I get my epidural now. I remember my 36 hr labor with my first, without meds and I didn't want to go through that again. (God bless you strong ladies that always have natural births)but this time I wanted relief. Around 1pm, I was checked and had reached 5 cm. After that, it went pretty quick. My epidural had worn off and I could now feel everything again around 2pm. I felt urges that I had to push and had the nurses check me. I had made it to 8cm! They got the room ready, and by 2:50 pm that urge to push became stronger. They checked me at 3pm, and I was fully dilated, but still had to thin a little. At that point, it took all I had not to push. I was reassuring myself and kept telling myself not to push. By 3:30 pm I was finally allowed to push, and in four big pushes, she came out screaming!!! I knew then my baby girl was healthy! She has digestive problems and has to spend some time in the NICU, but I get to stay with her. Other than that, she is perfect! Don't worry ladies! It's your time soon!

4ttc5th - 7 days ago
week 40 the end of the line is here cant wait to have my little man really getting excited. how is all you ladies x

Bgscoobyluver - 7 days ago
LMBO Andy!! But I keep telling myself that this will all end soon, but my goodness, soon feels like FOREVER!

Andy20 - 7 days ago
I'm still here bgscooby!! My first boy was born 12 days over and was perfect so don't stress about being overdue (other than the fact that it is horrible for you). I am only 2 days over so far and I am feeling terrible. The upside to making it to 41 weeks is you know that you have a maximum of 1 week to go (I know, a week is forever and you are swearing at me right now lol)

Bgscoobyluver - 7 days ago
41 wks tomorrow@! Am i the only one left?

Bgscoobyluver - 8 days ago
Still here ladies. This is officially the longest I have ever been pregnant! Was only 2cm dilated n cervix still high up. They attempted another sweep which hurt like crazy but no pains watsoever since!! They r gonna let me go until next week n I will be really close to 42 wks! I cannot believe this is happening but keep praying that my lil girl remains healthy n gets here safely.

Andy20 - 8 days ago
Congratulations lilmomma!! It sounds like your labour flew by :) bgscooby, I feel for you. I have had a hurty belly on and off for the last 24 hours too and it doesn't seem to be doing anything useful at all. I hope bub doesn't leave you waiting too much longer.

Bgscoobyluver - 9 days ago
uggghh! 5 days past and my tummy hurts! Not like contractions but like the feeling that I have to potty but cant always go. It comes n goes. Prayin this turns into labor. Either way, got a doc app. in 2 hrs so we will see what they do.

Bgscoobyluver - 10 days ago

Congratulations lilmomma!!

lilmommafuller - 10 days ago
She's finally here! At 4 days overdue, our sweet girl decided to make a quick entrance into the world. My water broke and contractions started at 2 am and she was in my arms at 5:47 am. It was a very intense 3 hours and 47 minutes of pain relief-free labor, but so worth it! Miss Ella Jayde weighs 8 lbs 5 oz and is 20 in long. She looks just like her big sis. Amazing!

lori0743 - 11 days ago
Thanx mom2beof5: I hope you and your baby are doing great!

mom2beof5 - 11 days ago
Lori I had same pain for few months but after I had baby all pain gone. For me didn't mean that I was in labor... Ask ur Dr. to do sweep. For me help he did on Thursday and Saturday nigh my water broke. Good luck hun.

Hey ladies! I added pics of my darling to my profile if anyone wants to see :) im healing pretty well and aside from swelling in my legs, i feel great! Congrats to all the mamas that had their lil ones and to those still waiting, i wish you all happy and healthy deliveries! The day will be here, dont fret! Soon you'll be holding your cuties!

lori0743 - 11 days ago
Does anyone else feel unbelievable pubic bone/vagina bone(lol) pain? So bad its hard to walk. It feels as if i have been riding a horse for days! If anyone knows what the pain feels like after riding a horse. Should I be worried or is it just beginning stages of labor. My doc hasn't called me back yet...go figure... Do u guys think I have time or is it something I should go to the hospital for. It takes me almost 2 hrs to get there, and my fiancée is at work...my contractions aren't bad and still irregular... any suggestions on what it might be? My doctor probably won't call, I'll have to call him back...

lori0743 - 11 days ago
Week 40 tomorrow! I feel for you ladies that are already overdue! I'm already depressed and tired... I too keep getting the 'Haven't had that baby yet?' questions in every way, shape and form! Ugh, I can't imagine two more weeks of this!! I'm with all u ladies!!

Dragonsoccermom*teamblue* - 11 days ago
Hi ladies! Checking in from week 23. I like to watch the week 40 ladies because you guys are the champions already approaching the finish line after a 40 week long marathon. I know you're hot & uncomfortable & really want your bodies back but hang in there. It's so easy to get down in the dumps when you see your due date come & go...trust me I know! But, best advice I was ever given was to make each day memorable. Have a date night. Do something with the kids. Turn the tv off & play board games. Take advantage, because you won't get it back. A watched pot never boils.

babybean~no5 - 11 days ago
Day 4 of being overdue come on baby I think I'm still going to be here at 12 days :0(

Andy20 - 11 days ago
lilmomma, I have been there before and it is horrible! Hopefully bub decides to arrive soon. It is so frustrating dealing with the incredibly insensitive questions and comments. I'm not past my due date yet and the 'anything happening yet' questions are driving me insane

lilmommafuller - 11 days ago
Still pregnant. Sigh. After hearing for weeks from my doctors that they'd be surprised to see me make it to my due date, being 3 days overdue is a big, fat slap in the face. I just want to cry. And having people constantly remind me that I'm overdue does. Not. Help. Ugh!

Andy20 - 11 days ago
Lol we can be crazy messes together ;) like they say misery loves company

Bgscoobyluver - 11 days ago
Andy- Im sure u will be! I am a crazy mess and no labor yet LOL.

Andy20 - 11 days ago
bgscoobyluver- my patience went out the window a week ago and my due date isn't for another 2 days! To make it worse I am pretty sure I am going to go over again. I will be a crazy mess by the time I go into labour lol

bgscoobyluver - 12 days ago
Waiting! Trying to. Be. Patient!

Dragonsoccermom*teamblue* - 13 days ago
Rinstat- sounds like yours come as fast as possible! Wow! Congrats!
