Born & Birth stories

This week your baby has an amazing growth spurt. At the beginning of this week, your baby is approximately 4 to 5 mm and by the end of the week it has more than doubled to 11 to 13 mm! Your baby weighs approximately 0.03 ounces. Most women are ready for the world to know they are pregnant. Whenever you are ready to spread the news with your friends and family, consider the many unique and creative ways of doing so to make this a special time in your life! Even though you have not changed very much yet, it will come soon! You might have gained a small amount of weight by now, but it should only be a couple of pounds at this time. It is not unusual to lose a few pounds or remain the same though. Internally, cervical mucus is thickening and will form a plug in the cervical canal. The plug seals your cervix throughout the pregnancy and it will be expelled prior to delivery when your cervix begins to dilate.

Within your developing baby, leg and arm buds are longer now and they have divided into segments where the hands and feet will be. The hands and feet also have an area where the fingers and toes will begin to form. At this point of your pregnancy, the heart is bulging from the body and it has divided into right and left chambers. The hemispheres of the brain are continuing to grow and the air passages into the lungs are visible. The eyes are beginning to get pigment at this time as well. The nose is developing and the beginning of the face can be seen. Likewise, the abdomen is developing quickly and the appendix and pancreas are already present. As the digestive tract is beginning to form, the hindgut is present. The shape of the tail can still be seen, but it will fade in 3 or 4 weeks.

Even pregnant women get sick occasionally. You should not take any medications during pregnancy unless your doctor has approved them first. If a problem does not resolve or you need medication, your caregiver can give you advice on relief options that are safe during pregnancy. Take good care of yourself by eating nutritious foods, exercising lightly, drinking extra water and getting an adequate amount of rest.

Mood swings can be a pain in pregnancy. It could be hormones, or a touch of anxiety at the idea of all the coming responsibility.

Limb buds are growing quickly, and they actually look more like arms and legs, with small separations which will become toes and fingers.

No crazy morning sickness yet. Still getting queasy every now and then but nothing crazy. I'm seriously praying I don't get ms. Wondering if I'm in the clear or it's still early?

bonitadiane - 277 days ago
MamaBear .. I had my hcg taken at 5.5 weeks they were 12000. 2 days later they were taken again and were 23000. These numbers are a little higher than average says my doctor but none the less they doubled. I have heard they should double BUT I also hear EVER woman is different. I think as long as they are rising, try not to stress it. Last year I miscarried. I had my hcg levels taken at 5 weeks and they were super low, 224. A few days later they declined. I believe all happens for a reason. Stay postive and don't stress the unknown. In time you'll get answers. :) just remember everyone is different. As is every pregnancy.

I spoke too soon... Mine is back in full force this morning! Guess it was just giving me a day off yesterday. Ultrasound today at 1:30 with our reproductive specialist. She has to check everything out and release me to a regular OBGYN since we started this process with her. We didn't conceive via any medical help but I'm still under her care so we get an extra ultrasound!

lindsilizzard - 278 days ago
Nausea seems to be fading this week.... Anyone else?

MamaBear2 - 279 days ago
Thank you jojo. I never had them done with my son, so I was hesitant this time. I don't think I'll ever get them done again honestly. Who knows, maybe my son was this way as well.

Mamabear, we dont have HCG readings in England and I think this is a good example of why not. Alls this will do now is cause u stress and anxiety until u see ur midwife again. I have heard HCG levels r meant to double but I personally have no experience of having them read. My best advice is to try and stay calm and positive. There may b a good reason why ur numbers hadnt increased and for alls u know they might of now and u may be worrying for nothing. There is no certainty for anyone who is pregnant so take each day as it comes and for each day that safely passes thank the unknown for giving u ur little miracle. Good luck hun keep us updated xx

MamaBear2 - 279 days ago
I'm not 7 weeks but I'll ask here too. I got my hCG numbers back yesterday. The first one I was 5 weeks 6 days, and my levels were 879, yesterday I was 6 weeks 2 days and my levels were 965. My midwife said she would have liked to see them double. So now I'm going to get my levels checked again next Thursday/Friday, and if the levels have raised enough, she plans to do an ultra sound the next Tuesday (I'd be shy of 8 weeks). I'm really concerned. My pregnancy symptoms have died down a lot. My boobs don't hurt that much anymore either. I'm really worried I'm going to lose this baby. Has this happened to anyone else?

bonitadiane - 280 days ago
Linds... Excited for you and that us. It's always exciting to see our lil beans.

bonitadiane - 280 days ago
Oh no JoJo ...I'm sorry you couldn't enjoy you dinner. I've been feeling queasy but nothing extreme. I hope it stays that way, I can't handle horrible ms. Plus, I have 2 little ones to tend Does anyone have any cravings yet? Yesterday for the first time in my first trimester I craved Ceasar salad. I wanted it sooo bad. I didn't get it for it was 9:30 pm and I didn't have salad at home. :( boooo. I've never had cravings in first trimester. Mainly bc normaly I'm so sick. Praying I skip ms. Please.

glowingwith2 - 286 days ago
Afsham, I had a tube baby last year. I hope you do not. It was difficult, I had a rupture and emergency surgery. Have you had any other pain? I noticed the blood was a bright red color, and pain felt like it was in my lower back/ butt area. I will pray for you and your baby, and that baby is in a good spot. Please let me know how it goes. You will be in my thoughts. Xx

afshanm07 - 286 days ago

Beckym - 288 days ago
smaller jeans, I hardly knew thee, lost a lot of weight, now I can't fit in the pants I worked so hard to fit in. I still had my bigger pants only because I was trying to figure out what I was doing with them, donating, or giving to a friend. Now I am glad I still have them, because I wouldn't have clothes that fit, other than sweats and a few dresses/skirts. U/S looked good today, Oct 8th is official due date. 9 weeks, but I will stop in and say hello from time to time. :)

glowingwith2 - 288 days ago
Thank you Snooks!! I did my pap two days ago, the doctor said I may have some spotting. You should be ok :) Went and bought some looser work clothes. I know my skinny jeans definitely don't fit these days. Such a difference with a second baby!

snooks - 288 days ago
glowingwith2, Congrats on baby making itself comfortable in the right place! :)

snooks - 288 days ago
afsanm07, The Pap should have been a smeer, unless they took a little pinch of tissue? As long as it is just a little spotting, you should be OKay.

snooks - 288 days ago
Definitely can't wear any of my jeans. Soooo tired by mid afternoon. Snoozy. Looking forward to my first US on Monday.

afshanm07 - 288 days ago
Has any else had pap smear done. I got mine done and now im spotting is this normal.

blondeabby - 288 days ago

2bBlessedw2 - 304 days ago
Hello 7 weeks!!!! u/s Thursday!!! I can't wait! Nervous and excited! I had gained 4.5 pounds but since lost it. I'm attributing it to weaning on Friday. It's the only thing that makes sense! I am not throwing up and I have no problem eating!

mammaramirez - 304 days ago
In ready that baby goes through such a big growth spurt this week, this makes complete sense as to why I am so sick. I cannot keep ANYTHING down. I'm nauseous in my sleep.

BaltoBaby - 304 days ago
Saw our little jelly bean last week. Everything looks good. Hubby and I are optimistic. On another note - I can't eat eggs. They bring on the sick in full force. Another food that moves to the no list. *sigh*

lildebbie - 305 days ago
Feeling so sick today. Blah. I can't wait for my first US on 3/4. Still seems so far away :(
