Born & Birth stories

This week your baby has an amazing growth spurt. At the beginning of this week, your baby is approximately 4 to 5 mm and by the end of the week it has more than doubled to 11 to 13 mm! Your baby weighs approximately 0.03 ounces. Most women are ready for the world to know they are pregnant. Whenever you are ready to spread the news with your friends and family, consider the many unique and creative ways of doing so to make this a special time in your life! Even though you have not changed very much yet, it will come soon! You might have gained a small amount of weight by now, but it should only be a couple of pounds at this time. It is not unusual to lose a few pounds or remain the same though. Internally, cervical mucus is thickening and will form a plug in the cervical canal. The plug seals your cervix throughout the pregnancy and it will be expelled prior to delivery when your cervix begins to dilate.

Within your developing baby, leg and arm buds are longer now and they have divided into segments where the hands and feet will be. The hands and feet also have an area where the fingers and toes will begin to form. At this point of your pregnancy, the heart is bulging from the body and it has divided into right and left chambers. The hemispheres of the brain are continuing to grow and the air passages into the lungs are visible. The eyes are beginning to get pigment at this time as well. The nose is developing and the beginning of the face can be seen. Likewise, the abdomen is developing quickly and the appendix and pancreas are already present. As the digestive tract is beginning to form, the hindgut is present. The shape of the tail can still be seen, but it will fade in 3 or 4 weeks.

Even pregnant women get sick occasionally. You should not take any medications during pregnancy unless your doctor has approved them first. If a problem does not resolve or you need medication, your caregiver can give you advice on relief options that are safe during pregnancy. Take good care of yourself by eating nutritious foods, exercising lightly, drinking extra water and getting an adequate amount of rest.

Mood swings can be a pain in pregnancy. It could be hormones, or a touch of anxiety at the idea of all the coming responsibility.

Limb buds are growing quickly, and they actually look more like arms and legs, with small separations which will become toes and fingers.

cutey24u - 310 days ago
First day of week 7 and I am sooooooooooo tired. Anyone else having mild lower back pain? No bleeding or anything more of an uncomfortable feeling in the back. I am prone to UTIs but am currently taking an antibiotic for one so I know it isn't that. First u/s tomorrow and I am so nervous and scared. - 311 days ago
Week 7 today :) feeling crummy but trying to look on the positive side of this all day sickness...thank you precious baby lol!

wantonemore - 314 days ago
I have not done it. I did try the baking soda test. That said boy.

alaina698 - 317 days ago
While I am dying to know the gender of this one, I am not sure I would want to try that! lol Did anyone do it?

Phronsie - 323 days ago
Anyone want to try the Red Cabbage Gender Test I just read about? Sounds a bit of trouble, but I do just happen to have a 1/2 a red cabbage in my fridge.... 1) Buy red cabbage 2) Cut cabbage up not small pieces but cut up into about 2 cups 3) Boil water 4) Pour boiled water onto cabbage. Let set about 10mins 5) Remove cabbage from water. 6) Pour cabbage water into white or clear glass. 7) Add urine to cabbage water. If it turns purple its a girl If it turns pink/red its a boy

Phronsie - 323 days ago
Well, I am so excited, but am also feeling kindof okay, so a bit apprehensive, actually, since I have had two miscarriages before and the morning sickness is just a re-assuring thing, though no guarantee. Just found out that one of my closest friends in the UK is five weeks along and another good friend is 10 weeks. What fun. Blessings on all of you... chemmommy, I am tired, too!! I keep falling asleep at night with my children!

Healthymum - 333 days ago

urhighness - 334 days ago
Can't wait until Wednesday! I have my first appointment and ultrasound! It's been a long three weeks waiting on confirmation.

Livanlearn - 336 days ago
Thanks Brittplus3--it's nice to be on a forum with so many expecting moms!

brittplus3 - 337 days ago
Congrats livanlearn!!

Livanlearn - 337 days ago
This is my 4th baby and the only one that was totally unplanned. it's exciting and scary to be caught off-guard. I don't get to to an appt til I am 11 weeks but am feeling complaints. Now it just makes sense why my eating has been so out of control lately! I teach 18 fitness classes a week so poor baby was competing for some calories! I am cautiously optimistic.

christina1010 - 338 days ago
Well ladies I went to the doctor today and got an ultrasound. It turns out that I'm 6 weeks and not 7. If you go off my last period I would of been 7. But the development 6 weeks and 4days. I got to see my baby's heart beat. (soo exciting) My due date is now 1/4/15 not 12/29/14. So I'll see yall back next week.

mischi - 338 days ago
This is my first post here. I am due with my third on New Years Day, 2015. I feel nauseous all day and have to constantly eat snacks so as not to be sick. I am also so tired! I am excited to be in week 7 but can't wait to be past these early weeks and have my first scan.

GoingFor4 - 339 days ago
I scheduled my first appointment last week. I have to wait until June 3rd where I should be 10w5d according to my LMP. It is very close to my mmc milestone of 11w2d which brings about some anxiety. One day at a time :) Moving on to week 8 tomorrow. See you all there!

GoingFor4 - 339 days ago
Britt: Sorry you have that nasty taste in your mouth. I remember it from previous pregnancies and am thankful I haven't experienced it yet!Hopefully it's short lived!!

lissie**** - 339 days ago
jh1983 oh wow hope you are out soon and the next few weeks pass quickly for you.

brittplus3 - 340 days ago
I hate having this metallic taste in my mouth. Yuck!

jh1983 - 341 days ago
Had another ultrasound today of the baby. Hr was 174 and everything looks good. I'm back in the hospital again for dehydration. Is the first trimester almost over yet???

laurentyesmomma - 341 days ago
Had my first doctor appointment today due to track record of two miscarriages and problematic pregnancy with my son I have a ultrasound next Tuesday, should be 8 weeks 4 days that day! Hope I get to see a heartbeat and hear good news.

lissie**** - 344 days ago
hope they give you an ultrasound then. It can really put your mind to ease. It did for me too

laurentyesmomma - 344 days ago
Just joined week 7, 7 weeks and almost 2 days now! Finally have my first doctors appointment Monday! Hoping to have a early ultrasound to put my mind at ease because of my past pregnancy issues!

lissie**** - 345 days ago
I've moved 2x with all 4 of my pregnancies. Horrible. Now we own our home and won't be moving...well life could throw a curve ball but doubtful. DH is working a full-time and part time job and just starting as masters degree in June. So I will be on my own basically for the next two years. But the babies will be close in age and I will be younger(34) than if I wait.

FourthTimesACharm - 346 days ago
Im in the same boat crossfitmama3 just found out I was unexpextedly pregnant with number 4 also. We just moved across country for the second time in three years and are in the begining stages of completely redoing an old house we live in! Im so excited to be pregnant but boy would I have chosen a different time lol

crossfitmama3 - 346 days ago
Hi ladies! This is my first posting. I used to live on this website when I was pregnant with my daughters and figured I would sign back up as I really need the positiveness and support this website offers. I will be 8 weeks tomorrow and just found out a week and a half ago. I am freaking out with this pregnancy as it's a complete surprise and I am just getting out of a divorce. I've been with my current partner for about a year but, but neither of us were ready for a baby. Trying to see the positive in it, and I know the baby will be a blessing. We have 3 girls now. I have 2 from my previous marriage, and he has one. Praying for a boy so he can keep at least a little bit of his sanity. First appt is Friday and I'll get an ultrasound at that time as well. I haven't felt sick really at all so I do have to wonder if everything is ok. I was VERY VERY sick with my girls from 5 weeks till the end. Anyway, sorry for the super long post. I just wanted to introduce myself. :) hope you are all feeling well!

lissie**** - 347 days ago
jh1983// zofran doesn't do much to help me either. Hope you are doing better though

zwiebelpulver - 347 days ago
Have been really sick the last fee days. Not nice! Better also keep drinking more water. It is really strange but since yesterday I am craving Sushi so badly! Of to week 8! Hope we all feel better soon! X

nini210 - 347 days ago
jh1983 hope you get better and get to go home soon mama!

jh1983 - 347 days ago
Lissie - yes iv fluids and iv zofran. Keeping it at bay, barely. Ugh!!!

lissie**** - 347 days ago
jh1983// oh boo!! Glad you are getting help though. IV fluids? Should help quickly :)

jh1983 - 347 days ago
Went to dr yesterday bc I've been miserable for a week with intense nausea. I've been taking zofran for a week with minimal relief. I expected to go in and be given another option for nausea, but instead was admitted to hospital for dehydration. I've read over and over how it's okay to lose a lot of weight in the beginning from being sick. What the internet doesn't tell you is it's ok for the baby, but not necessarily for momma. So now I'm stuck here for awhile. Keep well mommas. And drink up!

shaym007 - 348 days ago
Dmmarine I a glad your apt went good!! I am sure it's just normal cramping from our bodies changing!

Juliemom24 - 348 days ago
dmmarinewife- sounds like you're having round ligament pain. I remember having that around 4 months my last pregnancy. Also, congrats on your appt. Mine was also today and baby looked great! So happy! - 348 days ago
I am having cramping get too. I was worried too but I know it's just my body stretching out.

dmmarinewife - 348 days ago
Just came from my appt- everything looked great! Heard the heartbeat at 158bpm! And baby was measuring 7w3d crl

FourthTimesACharm - 349 days ago
Ive been having a moderate amount of cramps and though I know its normal its scary, they actually wake me up at night. It could be ligamenr pain or if your dehydrated it can cause contractions and cramping. Oh the joys lol

dmmarinewife - 350 days ago
Just curious if anyone else is having constant cramps? I have it continuously all day today esp that I noticed- right in the joint where my leg and pelvis meet... I have an appt Monday but was curious if anyone else had this too?

shaym007 - 350 days ago
Zweib- I'm still taking b6 and Unisom, but my nausea just won't go away!! I pray it doesn't last much longer...I'd love for it to end sooner than later..

shaym007 - 350 days ago
Dmmarine- good luck with your move Hun! Hope it goes as smoothly as possible Juliemom- I got the same, a sonoline b Doppler or whatever... I got it for $20 and it's practically brand new!! Very excited!! I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow so I'll wait to try it... Welcome fourthstime

dmmarinewife - 350 days ago
Julie- I haven't tried using it yet for this pregnancy but I did for my last and was able to hear it- or so I thought. Zwieb- thank you. Our house is completely packed and I've no motivation to clean anything...but also nothing to do- TV's are also packed as well.

zwiebelpulver - 350 days ago
dmmarinewife good luck with your move. I hope all goes well.

zwiebelpulver - 350 days ago
Hi Ladys! We are finally back home after two month in Europe. The flight went well and I was surprised I didn't get sick. I am really lucky that my daughter travels really well which is great travelling alone with a toddler. I got my extreme sensitive smell back. Which is a bit of a nightmare. And I don't feel good for most of the time. The only thing I can eat without problems seems to be soups. I am taking a vitamin B6 supplement before I eat three times a day and that seems to be helping a bit with my nausea. But I have problems taking the pregnancy vitamins. So hope all is well. Tomorrow I will have to call my midwife to get an appointment. And a referral for a scan. So looking forward to the scan. So feeling for all of you who are feeling so sick right now. I really hope it will all settle in a few weeks. Oh also my hormones run wild! Every movie is just so sad or someone says something which I find a bit offending I just start to cry! Ha ha ha...

FourthTimesACharm - 350 days ago
Thanks it's nice to have someone to talk to wasnt sure whatvweek I was but confirmed Wednesday due December 16th so exciting!!! Number four for us, Im more nervous with this one.... I feel like I won the lottery three times with the other ones and dont want to push my luck :/

Juliemom24 - 350 days ago
Dmmarinewife, do you love it?

dmmarinewife - 351 days ago
Hi ladies. Just stopping in to say hello... It has been extremely hectic/ chaotic here as were getting ready to move cross country... FYI moving sucks already, moving while in your first trimester sucks even more. Just finished my last day of work yesterday, movers came and packed everything and now comes the hard part- driving cross country. But first I have an ultrasound on Monday am. Hope you're all doing well. And Julie's mom- I have a doppler as well- I bought it during my last pregnancy- you can get them brand new for $50. I got the sonoline fetal doppler b I believe.

lissie**** - 351 days ago
fourthtimesacharm/// glad you joined us! We need more ladies!

Juliemom24 - 351 days ago
Metalmommy and Shay, I'm feeling so bad for you two right now. That sounds terrible. Shay, I'm totally jealous that you bought a doppler. Let me know how that goes for you. I am always seeing people selling those and I'm pretty tempted to snatch one up.
