Born & Birth stories

This week your baby has an amazing growth spurt. At the beginning of this week, your baby is approximately 4 to 5 mm and by the end of the week it has more than doubled to 11 to 13 mm! Your baby weighs approximately 0.03 ounces. Most women are ready for the world to know they are pregnant. Whenever you are ready to spread the news with your friends and family, consider the many unique and creative ways of doing so to make this a special time in your life! Even though you have not changed very much yet, it will come soon! You might have gained a small amount of weight by now, but it should only be a couple of pounds at this time. It is not unusual to lose a few pounds or remain the same though. Internally, cervical mucus is thickening and will form a plug in the cervical canal. The plug seals your cervix throughout the pregnancy and it will be expelled prior to delivery when your cervix begins to dilate.

Within your developing baby, leg and arm buds are longer now and they have divided into segments where the hands and feet will be. The hands and feet also have an area where the fingers and toes will begin to form. At this point of your pregnancy, the heart is bulging from the body and it has divided into right and left chambers. The hemispheres of the brain are continuing to grow and the air passages into the lungs are visible. The eyes are beginning to get pigment at this time as well. The nose is developing and the beginning of the face can be seen. Likewise, the abdomen is developing quickly and the appendix and pancreas are already present. As the digestive tract is beginning to form, the hindgut is present. The shape of the tail can still be seen, but it will fade in 3 or 4 weeks.

Even pregnant women get sick occasionally. You should not take any medications during pregnancy unless your doctor has approved them first. If a problem does not resolve or you need medication, your caregiver can give you advice on relief options that are safe during pregnancy. Take good care of yourself by eating nutritious foods, exercising lightly, drinking extra water and getting an adequate amount of rest.

Mood swings can be a pain in pregnancy. It could be hormones, or a touch of anxiety at the idea of all the coming responsibility.

Limb buds are growing quickly, and they actually look more like arms and legs, with small separations which will become toes and fingers.

rainbowbaby2 - 390 days ago
Ugh morning sickness has kicked in! This stinks! Lol was hoping to bypass it with this one! I got lucky with my first two. I guess the last three not so much lol

daisy3 - 390 days ago
Rainbow -ha ha! That's so funny! We haven't told my girls yet in case something goes wrong but we'll tell them after the 12 week scan. room - I'm doing a triathalon on 20th! I think I'm actually mad!!!! Might have to keep stopping to be sick!!! Anyway ladies I'm off to week 8 today, see you all there! X

rainbowbaby2 - 390 days ago
Lol room, my son said week 5 looked like a duck. He wants to name the baby sun blossom and was upset when I told him no! He's 7.

room4onemore - 391 days ago
Daisy3- Oh man you poor thing! I was active duty with my first and ran a marathon in my third trimester with my second I worked 12 hr days until tues and had her thurs. This one I take multiple naps and am very comfortable just sitting down all day except for work I could not imagine having one any later... Bless you

daisy3 - 391 days ago
Room4onemore I had my first at 28! I'm 33 now but to b honest I'm probably fitter now than I was then. Unfortunately I have the diarrhoea AND nausea so one hasn't taken away the other :-( it reminds me a bit of one very long sick bug that lasts about 2 months! Ha ha!

room4onemore - 391 days ago
My son Tiergan wanted to name the baby Tiergan jr until he saw what it looked like. Now he says he doesnt want to name an alien jr...... lol he is 6

rainbowbaby2 - 391 days ago
Yay week 7 here I am! And by next week we'll have formed looking feet!!!

room4onemore - 391 days ago
I have not had that problem but if it would take away the nausea I wouldnt mind. My other pregnancies were not this bad. I have one of each. I dont know if it is because I am 28 now and my body is just done

luvmykiddos - 391 days ago
They were all boys :) Maybe blue is in your future... Lol. Never thought of it as a reason for the exhaustion, but I'm with you in tiredness!

daisy3 - 391 days ago
P.s that was supposed to say WHAT did you have before, not why! As in what sex!

daisy3 - 391 days ago
Luvmykiddos that's interesting, I've had 2 other children and didn't have this with either. Out of interest why did you have before? I have 2 girls. I did go to the doctors today and they told me it would not be expected as a symptom of pregnancy and have asked for a sample and I've had some bloods taken just to check it's not bacteria causing It. It wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't making me feel so exhausted! I remember being tired before but nothing like this, even going In the kitchen to get water is like a marathon! I love my children and enjoy my time with them when I'm not working but I'd do anything for someone to take them away for a whole day and deliver them back at lunch time the next day so I could just puke, poo and sleep in peace!! Ha ha!

luvmykiddos - 391 days ago
Daisy- I'm peeking ahead from week 6, and what you're talking about is one of my symptoms, too. I was like that with all three of my boys, and it's kicked in with this one now. It's almost like instead of puking, it's the other thing. Just soft, too, not complete diarrhea. Sorry if tmi. I would almost rather this than the puking ;) Hang in there. Hopefully it's a good sign for both of us. I've had 4 losses recently without this symptom, so I'm hoping it means this one is sticking....

daisy3 - 392 days ago
Room One more that must have been so scary for you! Glad the scan was positive! Make sure you get lots of rest. on another note and possible TMI but has anyone had diarrhoea? I think I picked up a bit of a stomach bug just before 5 weeks as I had diarrhoea and couldn't keep much down but it wasn't like a normal stomach bug. A few days later my youngest had horrible diarrhoea which lasted 4 days which is why I assumed it was the cause but mine hasn't stopped. It's not been liquid, just very soft and I'm going 4-5 times a day which is not like me. It's been about 3 weeks now and as if I'm not tired enough I think it's adding to the exhaustion! I'm taking pregnacare tablets and thinking about changing to just folic acid to see if it helps. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

room4onemore - 392 days ago
So today I woke up with bright red blood in my panties. went to the ER and did an ultrasound but because it was a threatened miscarriage they would not let me see :( I am on bedrest for three days but at least I know my little bean is ok! Hope you ladies had a good day

dre32 - 394 days ago
Congrats Sammie! that's exciting! is this your first pregnancy? Welcome daisy3 and Room4onemore!

daisy3 - 394 days ago
Hi all! Just thought I'd say hello! This is my 3rd pregnancy and I always loved going on this site with my other 2 so thought I'd revisit. I have 2 girls aged 5 and 2 so fingers crossed this will be number 3. It's been a tough pregnancy so far, I had severe pain in my right side early on and visiting the emergency room they suspected an ectopic however thankfully they found the cause of the pain was a corpus luteum cyst on the right side that had bled. I had a scan on Wednesday to check everything was developing ok as it was previously too early to see baby and I was very happy to see a teeny heart beat :-) I have had a little Brown spotting since the scan but it was an internal one so I'm assuming that was the cause, trying not to worry and feeling suitably nauseous! Good luck to all the mummies on here and I look forward to the journey with you over the following months :-)

room4onemore - 395 days ago
7 weeks today!!! Nausea and exhaustion are my two symptoms that will not go away! We are waiting for a while to tell our famly too. I think I am going to wait until a family get together then put a bun in the oven and set the timer and then when someone notices I will share. My sisters will be excited my mom and dad will cry from disappointment even though I am 28 married and pay my bills. They hate my husband.

mschichi - 395 days ago
Sammie217 that is hilarious! Congrats! I don't know what I'd do if I saw two heartbeats on my U/S. Probably do more crying than laughing.

Sammie217 - 395 days ago
Has anyone been experiencing stomach cramps and severe nausea at 7weeks

Sammie217 - 395 days ago
I am 7 weeks pregnant I took 8 EPT and within seconds they came back positive. I went to dr got confirmation with blood test. But I was having problems with ear infection and went to ER. I was giving ultrasound to make sure that the baby was ok because of some cramping and spotting I was having. And to my surprise two little heartbeats. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry so I did both. My husband found out when he came to the hospital and almost fainted. Lol

cutezilootz02 - 395 days ago
I had my dating scan yesterday it was a relief to see a heartbeat! Dates are matching up perfectly so I'm very excited now. Dealing with a lot of morning sickness all day long too, feels like a massive hangover all day. Yuck!

Timefor2 - 396 days ago
Dre32--That doesn't sound like fun at all! My nausea has actually calmed down a bit recently, I am just exhausted all the time and have been dizzy, I have to stand very slowly or I almost pass out! Not a good feeling when the room starts spinning! I called my OB this morning to schedule my next prenatal visit and they asked again if I was ready to schedule to dating u/s, I told the nurse I was probably just going to have to skip it or something because I could not fit it into my schedule since they wanted it done before 10 weeks. Luckily, the nurse contacted my doctor and told her we were having scheduling issues and the doctor agreed that it should still be accurate enough at 12 weeks! So we will do it then. I will have my 1st u/s and my next prenatal visit both on the same day which is great for my DH's work schedule! July 30th. Seems like forever away! I am just happy I will still get a scan! (We always opt out of the genetic testing so don't get an NT scan done so if I skipped the dating scan, I wouldn't see my baby until 20 weeks!). I am a little worried now about our announcement plans though! We have a big family BBQ this weekend for the 4th and had planned on announcing by having our DS wear a 'Big brother' shirt to the BBQ but now we don't want to announce yet since we don't know for sure what is going on in there! I am so bloated though and have food aversions, I feel like if I turn my nose up at food I normally love or someone notices my bloat belly, we are going to be outed before we are ready! It has been so hard keeping it quiet this long, I don't know how we will manage another month!

dre32 - 397 days ago
awww. sorry Timefor2! I don't have my first appointment until 10 weeks and won't have an u/s until 12 weeks :( Right in the middle of all day sickness here...man, its miserable.

Timefor2 - 397 days ago
I was so disappointed today! Had my first appointment..I have been looking forward to it for weeks because my 1st appt. with my DS, they did the u/s right then since they have machines in the office....well this time the u/s tech was booked! DH took off work today for this appt. and he most likely can't get off again this month because it being the middle of summer, a lot of other worker's already have vacations planned and they won't let 2 people off the same day because they don't have enough workers! We aren't announcing to family until after the first scan (which we thought would be today and we were going to announce on the 4th!) so I can't ask family for a ride or to watch my 2.5 year old while I go to my appt. No clue when I will get a scan now! The doctor wanted it done within the next 2 weeks because early is more accurate for measurements and I am already going on 8 weeks but I can't make it back in within the next 2 weeks. I left the appointment in tears (dang pregnancy hormones) because I was so excited to see my little bean and make sure everything was going well and it was just a huge let down!

mschichi - 397 days ago
Week 7 today! It seems there are a lot of ladies who still don't know they are pregnant this early. Forums are really quiet

Week 7 for me tomorrow! Got my dating scan on wednesday, pretty excited but also nervous, until i see the heartbeat im worried something might happen or it isnt real.

Timefor2 - 401 days ago
So sorry cnjsmum.

cnjsmum - 401 days ago
Thanks dre32 and tripplets. Im home from hospital now. Unfortunately my pregnancy has ended... It was way too risky for me to continue, it may have led to a scar abruption, which would at best led to a full hysterectomy and at worst life threatening for me and the baby. So my options were very grim... It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made, but the right one for me and my family. There is also a good chance I can conceive again in the future. Wishing you all a safe journey to your beautiful babies.

dre32 - 402 days ago
aww. cnjsmum...i'm so sorry to hear that news. thinking of you.

tripplets - 402 days ago
cnjsmum you ate in my prayers

cnjsmum - 403 days ago
I'm in hospital, awaiting another scan to confirm some bad news. It looks as though my baby has implanted in my cs scar, which is a rare form of ectopic. I saw my baby and its beautiful flickering heart... But It is life threatening condition so will likely not be able to continue this pregnancy. I'm devestated....

mizz-fallon - 403 days ago
Just made it yesterday to week 7. Very excited for my long journey to Feb 2015. I'm now going on my third child. I been in so much pain.. started to think maybe it was an ectopic pregnancy but the ultrasound showed that my little one was in the uterus and had a good heart beat. . Morning sickness sucks right along side all of these horrible aches and pains.. anyone else experiencing pain??

cnjsmum - 403 days ago

rainbowbaby2 - 410 days ago

cutey24u - 411 days ago
NeNe, I am sure the happy will come, you can do it!Chsaamanen, yes I have a lot of discharge and the doc said some women just have a lot of discharge it sucks and I have to wear a pantiliner most days because of it. I did have my ultrasound Friday and was dated earlier so today is actually the 1st day of week 7 lol. I saw everything and was lucky enough to see the heartbeat. Even though I have seen I am still nervous, I just want this 1st trimester to be over so I can have more energy this lil one is taking everything out of me, by noon I feel dead to the world and just want to take a nap.

Nene305 - 411 days ago
Hello Ladies, So I guess I am pregnant again it been 4 1/2 year since I've been on this sites because my son is going to be 5 in September 9. This was not a plan pregnancy and honestly I'm not sure if I really want this baby. I am going to be 40 year old next year and who want to start over raising a baby again not me. Well I don't mean to come off being so negative but I just in odd right now and my husband is super happy and I just wish I could feel the same way but I not young anymore. Does anyone else feel scare about having a baby at my age?

minibub(pink) - 412 days ago
So I hope at this point your all travelling well. I had another bonus sneak peak at my little jelly bean today. I was stressed out because my scan at 6 weeks showed nothing but a sac so for piece of mind I went and got my bloods done to make sure they were rising the way they should and the doctor confirmed that there was definitely a baby in there and that it's little heart was beating away healthily. So I sigh of relief here

chsaamanen@hotmail.com - 414 days ago
Sometimes I wish I journaled my last pregnancy so I could remember all my symptoms. Does anyone else get a (TMI) larger amount of dishcahrge? I just found today I had a thick creamy color discharge. Yesterday the tiniest amount of brown discharge. Called my doc about the brown and she asked if I had sex recently and I had The day before, she said probably from that or implantation bleeding and not to worry unless it turns to red blood, I haven't had anymore some but jut a larger amount of whitey discharge. Anyone else experience this ?? I feel like I did last time but don't remember exactly!

chsaamanen@hotmail.com - 415 days ago
No back pain here but I come to realize after I firt pregnancy that all these little aches and pains are usually normal :) good luck with your ultrasound and enjoy! My doc is making me wait until 12 weeks for a dating ultrasound?!? My last pregnancy was at 8 weeks I'm so disappointed I would like to confirm a viable pregnancy before 3 months :(

NICOlA2010 - 415 days ago
Cutey24u, yes i have mild back pain on and off through the day, wosre in morning and night...sux so early on too

cutey24u - 416 days ago
First day of week 7 and I am sooooooooooo tired. Anyone else having mild lower back pain? No bleeding or anything more of an uncomfortable feeling in the back. I am prone to UTIs but am currently taking an antibiotic for one so I know it isn't that. First u/s tomorrow and I am so nervous and scared.

chsaamanen@hotmail.com - 417 days ago
