Born & Birth stories

By the end of your second month of pregnancy, your baby is about the size of a pinto bean and is approximately 14 to 20 mm long. If this is your first pregnancy, you still probably will not be showing yet. However, if this is not your first pregnancy you might be able to tell that you are pregnant. You will notice a slight change in how your clothes fit and your doctor can tell that your uterus is larger than normal. Before you were pregnant, your uterus was about the size of your fist. However, by 6 weeks of pregnancy, your uterus has grown to the size of a grapefruit!

Your baby is developing at an amazing rate during these early weeks. Eyelid folds and ears are forming. Your baby's eyes are still very wide apart on the sides of her head, but will eventually center themselves out. The tip of the nose is actually present at this time as well. On ultrasound you can see that the aortic and pulmonary valves of the heart are present. The tubes that lead from the throat to lungs are branching and your baby's torso is getting longer and beginning to straighten out. Just a few weeks ago, your baby's arms were tiny buds. Now the elbows are actually present and the arms and legs extend forward and have grown longer. Fingers and toes are becoming visible also.

One of the symptoms that you might feel around this time of your pregnancy is cramping or pain in your lower abdomen or side as your uterus grows. Some pregnant women feel tightening or contractions of the uterus. Do not get alarmed if you do not feel this though. If tightening of the uterus or contractions is accompanied by bleeding, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. Many pregnant women also experience an occasional pain that begins in their buttocks and radiates down their back or legs. This is known as sciatic nerve pain and can be extremely painful at times. More than likely the pain is caused by the pressure on the nerve and it is best to lie on the opposite side to relieve the pressure.

The tiny person is protected by the amniotic sac, filled with fluid. Inside, the child swims and moves gracefully. The arms and legs have lengthened, and fingers can be seen. The toes will develop in the next few days.

The umbilical cord contains 3 blood vessels which link your baby's system to yours. The big one supplies your baby with blood which is rich in oxygen. The two smaller blood vessels return blood to the placenta. This blood is low in oxygen, and full of waste materials. At birth, umbilical cord can be two to four feet long.

EHuff, right now, I'm having a lusty, out of control affair with food. I think you should join me-- it's the best! I've only gained 2 lbs., and I go to 9 weeks on Thursday, and I think it's due to me having such a great time eating, as opposed to what I am actually eating. I eat what I feel like, what makes me happy. If I had known that I could eat this well and like it this much, I never would have dieted, ever!

ChessBabe - 4 hours ago
Ok, so I had sushi. Behind my husband's back. There. Now the secret's out. I know I'm not 'supposed' to, but it was SO worth it! I feel much better now that craving is behind me... for now...

Ehuff6006 - 6 hours ago
I am telling all of you.... this time around I am gonna blow up. Why can I not crave a salad? Nope. It's CARBS and lots of em. Ugh. Gonna be 9 weeks in 2 days! YIPEE! Actually looked at peggo pants today. With the 1st I refused until the end to wear maternity pants, and when I did It was like the heavens opened. This time around, Im startin early, baby!!!! it's all about comfort! Hope you all are doing great!

stacy122982 - 6.5 hours ago
Do I know it's so silly...but taking another pt ran through my mind too! Although I had the blood test and my first u/s...so I know I'm pg...but I just don't really feel it!! Have barely had any nausea, no headaches, no vomitting, just sore (HUGE) boobs, and moody... Man I can't wait till 2nd trimester!! But...being at week 12 and 13, does that really feel much different then weeks 8-11?? Finally, I am getting married in may...i will be 5 months, and it's my first child. When do you think I would be able to look for a wedding dress?? Thanks!

Hey Girls, this will be my last day in week 8, moving to week 9 tomorrow, see you beautiful preggers' there! dawnyh1979: I know exactly how you feel, my first dr. appt. was when I was 6 1/2 weeks pregnant, all he did was feel my stomach, and said 'Op I don't feel anything, didn't think I would, unless you were carrying twins' I had to ask him for a blood test. I haven't had a doppler done yet, I'm looking forward to my second appt on the 1 of March to finally hear the heartbeat and make sure everything is okay. God bless!

patty26h - 9 hours ago
hello every one! I dont know about every body but I smell every thing 10x more it sucks, even the food I loved I can take it. My poor dogs I dont even want them near me. Glad to be in week 8. I agree that it seems like it is takeing for ever so anxious!

oitnkw - 10.2 hours ago
ehuff6006 - I had the headaches nightly too. I figured, by process of elimination that it was my down pillows and comforter. I switched to hypo-allerginic pillows and blanket and haven't had one since. Hope this helps.

blessedagainwith10 - 12.1 hours ago
dawny - your right... I almost feel like taking another pregnancy home test just to see if I'm not imagining this...It's the only thing I've got as proof. lol

Lilbunnybri - 12.8 hours ago
Yay me week 8! And this is my second baby and I already look 4 months!! ahh...I had pre-eclampsiya with my last baby, anyone have that, and have a second child without it?

jenica - 13.9 hours ago
This is the 3rd day in a row that I haven't been able to keep anything down. Not even water. My midwife told me to go to the hospital to get hydrated by IV but my insurance still isn't active. I've already paid almost 400.00 for two visits and an ultrasound, I dont have the money to pay for a hospital bill. So she gave me suppositories. Anyone tried them? I thought they just made you unable to throw up but that the nausea doesnt go away.

prayinwarrior - 14.3 hours ago
Hello Ladies of week 8, Congratulations and God (Jesus) Bless all of you! This is my first day in week 8, I do remember some of you from previous week but some are new and to you I say, Welcome! Hope we all get a chance to get well acquainted with one another on this Blessed path of pregnancy.

dawnyh1979 - 14.8 hours ago
Isnt it funny how all we do is a simple pregnancy test to tell if we are pregnant or not. Ive been to the Doc's 3 times now and not once have they took blood, felt my belly, or done the doppler.... is everyone in the same boat? I just want someone to tell me that I really am pregnant and its not all in my head!! Another 4 weeks till the scan.... can I wait that long??????

momof4inoc - 15 hours ago
Hi ladies! Im 8 weeks pregnant, almost 9 and im carrying twins. (fraternal) Im so excited, and nervous at the same time! One of the twins was measuring bigger than the other, by about 5 days. Did this happen to any of you carrying twins? Im worried about the vanishing twin syndrome. I dont see my dr until next wedensday so im so anxious!

First B.O.B. - 15 hours ago

18 but excited - 15.2 hours ago
Oops- thanks for the suggestion. ill let you know how it goes.

jadiemomma - 15.3 hours ago
Yayy!! Week 8! So relieved I've made it this far! MS isn't bad-mostly nausea. It comes and goes-mostly in the evening or when I've eaten too much! Still bloated--was hoping to hold off to tell everyone, but now sure how much longer I can! BF has been fantastic! Probably will drive me crazy before the baby is here! Rubs my feet, my back, talks to my belly--he's so excited! Only thing frustrating is that he doesn't understand the mood swings. Suppose to have 2nd u/s tomorrow, but had to postpone due to this wonderful weather! Now I have to wait until the 25th to make sure all is still ok! Don't think it will ever get here!

Proud-N-Preggers - 15.3 hours ago
Hello Week8! So happy to be here.. and I agree with you all, this first Trimester is seeming to take FOREVER! Hopefully time will go faster when we get to feel our babies moving around more! I just want everyone to know that we are pregnant! Take care all!

lharris - 16.8 hours ago
Thanks everyone for making me feel a bit better, now I know I am not the only one that feels like this first 12 weeks is dragging on. I was in a MUCH better mood yesterday, my husband and I got along great, he even said I had more energy yesterday. I worked, worked out, made dinner and lunches, watched a little tv and went to bed. I am starting to feel human again. One thing I noticed is the prenatals the DR gave me to try seemed to make me VERY naseous...so I switched back to my over the counter ones...but I am thinking that maybe I was having a bad week and I should try the Dr. prenatals again. By the way, it is 10 am central time. I have already had a BUNCH of cut fruit for breakfast and now I am munching on chili cheese fritos...wow. :) I hope you all have a wonderful day!

isabella13 - 17.2 hours ago
blessed, I am completely with you that this trimester is the slowest. Funny how time works....some years just speed on by, but then you get pregnant - find out early than you wish you had - and then have to wait an excrutiatingly long time for the first 12 weeks to drag on by. I guess it's good we can commiserate with each other.

isabella13 - 17.3 hours ago
I guess there's some wisdom to the saying, 'be careful what you wish for.' Here I was worrying that I hadn't been feeling anything for the past 2 days when I got smacked with a good dose of ms at work. Ofcourse ms at work is just not that pretty, particularly when your office is far away from the restroom. had to find a bag to carry my clear thrash can bag to dump since no one knows here and I didn't want to have to explain what happened. I can't wait to be able to be out with it.

shobie - 17.5 hours ago
I had my ultrasound yesterday and it was amazing.. Heard my baby's heartbeat and it was a healthy 172.. So amazed didn't think I would be able to hear it that soon.. Have another appointment on the 23 so excited...

blessedagainwith10 - 17.9 hours ago
Had my first appt. with midwife yesterday. Just routine blood work. Can't hear the heart beat yet as it was too early. For sure by next appt. March 11/10. Only one routine ultrasound at 18-20 weeks. No complications....IT's simply a waiting game. Ho Hum...

blessedagainwith10 - 19.1 hours ago
Sooo sorry to hear many of you being sick. Praying it will go away soon. I remember with my 1st being sick all the way through it just never stopped. And this time - nothing, no ms, no tiredness. In general just don't 'feel pregnant' - Can't wait for this trimester to move on - it's just sooooo slowwww...JUst shows how there are no 2 preggos alike.

Rosebaby - 19.2 hours ago
Yay... made it to my first day of week 8! Feeling good... feel a little less tired than last week. But I definitely have ZERO patience. I've read that a lot of you are having annoyances with your DH, but for me the problem is at work. Everyone around me is SOO hyper all the time (even at 7:30am) and it just makes me want to snap! Things are much better at home because my DH seems to be much more understanding and calm.

sarahmariebaillie - 19.5 hours ago
jelly is also good 4 m/s xxx

JenSohmer - 20.7 hours ago
Good Morning ladies. First day of week 8! Hope all is well with you all. Feeling great, other than being completely exhausted. Noticed a lot of comments still on m/s. Anyone try peppermint? It's supposed to help with nausea. Too bad Candy Canes are out of season right now.. hehe

sarahmariebaillie - 21 hours ago
i agree em,the 1st trimester goes so slow and is boring.im pregnant with baby number 4,were not telling any1 until 12 weeks so its even more boring.thank god 4 this site we can all have prage {i love it lol} and talk abt our bumps and hubbys irratating behaviour as much as we want lol xx

Em The Em - 21.4 hours ago
mummy2be10 - I also have my scan in 4 weeks, I got my dating scan appointment through today and was briefly happy, but then thought well that's still another 4 weeks away! Ack!!! I just need something to do. This is my third pregnancy, so I've been here twice already, it's no novelty. I'm blessed, but first tri is boring as hell

mummy2be10 - 22.2 hours ago
Em The Em - I feel exactly the same way as you do hun, i had my first antenatal appointment last friday and i thought they might at least use a doppler so i could hear my baby's heartbeat but no my midwife said they won't be able to hear it until im 12 weeks but iv read so many women on here have heard their baby's heartbeats already so i'm a bit confused, she didn't even feel my tummy or anything, just asked me a million questions. I want to tell the world, i want to buy things, i don't have a scan until 4 weeks and time is dragging. Sorry for sounding so down everyone, guess im having one of those days, this constant ms isnt helping :(

OopsHereWeGoAgain - 1 days ago
18-yuuuck never liked milk haha, but i know what you mean about ms at night. my nights are the worst. ill be fine alll day and then nighttime rolls around and i feel like total crap. one of the girls mentioned peppermint tea helping ms and i had dh grab some for me yesterday. i had 2 cups last night and didnt get sick! ehuff- PRAGE??!! lmao, im gonna have to remember that one.

18 but excited - 1 days ago
Okay so whoever called it ms must of never been pregnant because i feel sick morning noon and night.I've tryed eating yogurt and saltine crackers but nothing seems to help and for some reason anything with milk just makes the ms worse. The weird part is, before i was pregnant i drank milk every chance i got. i loved it. I dont want to sound like a bad person by saying im really not enjoying this trimester but im not and my doctor said some women have ms their entire pregnany. I really hope i dont.. Any suggestions?

ehuff6006 - 1 days ago
yes, this is a really awesome site for bonding and makes me feel so much better that I'm not the only one feeling like crap. I bite my hubby's head off for instances like this: (this actually happened) Me- babe can you fix me some coffee for the ride to work? HIM- decaf or regular? ME- Regular. HIM- By regular, do you mean Decaf or regular? AHHHHHHHHH! Who wouldnt freak out???!!!

ter-bear - 1 days ago
Dawnyh1979- I'm glad I'm not alone feeling so crappy. Lol I am truly miserable. and to make it worse, I've become very bitchy towards my poor dh. If he so much as says one thing wrong even jokingly, I threaten to do terrible things to him and I really mean it when I'm saying it. I'm not usually so evil but it has to be the hormones.

ChessBabe - 1 days ago
EHuff, at least you get to sleep for the other 4 hours, I hope. Between the 'litter of babies' dream, and having to use the bathroom ALL NIGHT LONG, I'm starting to think 8 hours is seriously overrated. If you want to see some real 'PRAGE', take a look at the girls in the 40 weeks section! It makes what I'm going through now look like a skip through the meadow!

ehuff6006 - 1 days ago
One more thing, after reading the posts about the hormone overload and irritating husbands... I learned a new word from a friend: The coin is 'The PRAGE' = Pregnancy Rage. We all get it and we all deserve to. This is what men have to deal with while we get big and our bladders fall to pieces. So I would like to say, I am in full-on PRAGE mode just about 20 hours of the day.

ehuff6006 - 1 days ago
So I totally thought I was a freakin week ahead of myself. I thought I was 9 weeks last week and I still have a few days to go. See, the memory is already slipping! Hey- who out there is having very annoying headaches? I have them almost nightly. The nausea also starts at night (around 6ish). I wasn't sick with my 1st so this is NO FUN. I don't know if I should be worried that I have headaches so frequently? Any help?

stacy122982 - 1 days ago
lharris: I am having the SAME issues!!!! My fiancé is irritating me constantly! And I couldn't agree more with the drinking/partying. He told me he thought I was using the pregnancy as an excuse for the way I have been towards him, and how I seem so not interested in him anymore...but he just doesn't understand what's going on in my body...hey, I don't even understand what's going on in my body!! LOL

Krystaldawn - 1 days ago
I had my ultrasound today!! My husband and I saw the little baby's heart beating and he was moving like a little caterpillar. The doctor also changed my due date as well to a week ahead...I am going to week 9. See ya all there!

First B.O.B. - 1 days ago
yay 8 weeks! so far so good.... deff have all the tiredness, moody, feel sick here and there, sore boobs, and did i say moody? lol cant wait to realy feel prego though... so far just feel like i'm crazy lol

first-sarah - 1 days ago
kynry: I'm really sorry to hear that. I will pray that things get better for you, and maybe things will work out. Best of luck EmtheEm: I know what you are talking about, I feel the same way, I want to tell the world about this pregnancy (as it is my first) but I can't until I know everything is okay. Just try to keep busy, maybe the time will go by faster!

Em The Em - 1 days ago
I'm bored. Bored with this week, bored because I'm not seeing my midwife for another 3 weeks, haven't had a scan or heard the baby's heartbeat or anything yet. I have this great news I want to share with people, but can't yet, and everything's just... blah, and sucking the joy out of it.

jjaimewh - 2 days ago
Last day in week 8!

ChessBabe - 2 days ago
Hi, all! I'm looking forward to getting to know you, and thanks for sharing your pregnancy stuff. I'm preg w/ my 3rd, and have been holding the emotions and hormones in check pretty well until Friday, when I got disappointment that was hard to handle. It wasn't my husband's fault, but I think I want to kill him anyway, just because he's being a jerk (he doesn't agree that he is). What should I do? I don't like being mad at him or anyone else, but every time he says something now, I get offended, angry, or hurt. Anyone else know how to get over this?

dawnyh1979 - 2 days ago
Ter-Bear .... feel your pain! I only stumbled on this website today after typing into google 'is it normal to feel this bad'!!! I am only 8weeks and 2days but have been feeling so bad since week 5! I am the same as you. I feel at the end of my tether with it all. I wake up at around 3am with that waterey feeling in my mouth and vomiting uncontrolably. I am so tired that I find it hard to concentrate at work and feeling guilty because pregnancy is a natural thing that most women go through. I just feel so bad..... almost dpressed. My poor partner is getting the brunt of it all too. I cannot bear him near me, as my body aches like I have the flu, but I cry all day like an idiot when he goes to work. Its reasuring to know that it is 'normal' to feel like this - - however roll on the 2nd trimester when these horrible feelingshopefully subside! Thanks for listening - helps just to get things off you chest sometimes!!

jennyloganx - 2 days ago
hi guys :) had my first u/s today & im a couple of days behind what i thought! so due dates now the 15th instead of the 13th , everything looked great though and i've had virtually no symptoms at all except a slight bit of nausea and tiredness and a little dizzyness , bb are hardly ever sore so i guess every pregnancy is just different , good luck too all :) x

ter-bear - 2 days ago
when is ms supposed to ease up? i feel like it has only gotten worse. it's been an almost constant state of hunger/no appetite, nausea if i eat or i dont, nausea in the morning and at night. nausea 24/7. i am so sick of feeling sick, but just thankful that i have symptoms. anyone else feel this way? and nothing works to make it better!

ter-bear - 2 days ago
kynry - im so sorry. I understand your pain. God bless you and your lil one.

lharris - 2 days ago
Husband/Men Issues - Ok, I don't know where else to vent, so I am sorry ladies. Is anyone else feeling like the husband has NO CLUE what it is like to watch everyone else get drunk and party? I keep telling him to go out and have a good time, but I do not want to go sit in a smokey bar and watch people get wasted. It is not fun. Last night at a superbowl party, after being there 6 hours I was ready to go. The husband was quite wasted so I told him to stay and enjoy himself (we live a neighborhood over, so he could easily catch a ride). He said he wanted to leave too. So as I am saying my goodbyes I over hear him telling our friends he has to go home and keep the peace. That totally upset me, as I just told him he could stay. Plus sleeping next to a guy that smells like rum doesn't exactly settle my stomach. This is so frustrating because he is being so helpful around the house and with other little things, but our life outside of the home is really suffering. Anyone have thoughts?

Girls-R-Us - 2 days ago
I've never heard of the cabbage test.....I guess I will be trying it!! I know it's just for fun, but mommy*of*4*boys has it been right w/ you at all? Just curious! :)

mommy*of*4*boys - 2 days ago
For those who want to try: buy red cabbage cut it up 2cups of cabbage poor boiling water over the cabbage, let soak for 10 minutes (water should be blue), strain into clear cup throw cabbage away, use first morning pee and poor cabbage water into it, if it turns puple its a girl if its reddish pink its a boy
