By the end of your second month of pregnancy, your baby is about the size of a pinto bean and is approximately 14 to 20 mm long. If this is your first pregnancy, you still probably will not be showing yet. However, if this is not your first pregnancy you might be able to tell that you are pregnant. You will notice a slight change in how your
clothes fit and your doctor can tell that your uterus is larger than normal. Before you were pregnant, your uterus was about the size of your fist. However, by 6 weeks of pregnancy, your uterus has grown to the size of a grapefruit!

Your baby is developing at an amazing rate during these early weeks. Eyelid folds and ears are forming. Your baby's eyes are still very wide apart on the sides of her head, but will eventually center themselves out. The tip of the nose is actually present at this time as well. On
ultrasound you can see that the aortic and pulmonary valves of the
heart are present. The tubes that lead from the throat to lungs are branching and your baby's torso is getting longer and beginning to straighten out. Just a few weeks ago, your baby's arms were tiny buds. Now the elbows are actually present and the arms and legs extend forward and have grown longer. Fingers and toes are becoming visible also.
One of the symptoms that you might feel around this time of your pregnancy is cramping or pain in your lower abdomen or side as your uterus grows. Some pregnant women feel tightening or contractions of the uterus. Do not get alarmed if you do not feel this though. If tightening of the uterus or contractions is accompanied by bleeding, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. Many pregnant women also experience an occasional pain that begins in their buttocks and radiates down their back or legs. This is known as sciatic nerve pain and can be extremely painful at times. More than likely the pain is caused by the pressure on the nerve and it is best to lie on the opposite side to relieve the pressure.
The tiny person is protected by the amniotic sac, filled with fluid. Inside, the child swims and moves gracefully. The arms and legs have lengthened, and fingers can be seen. The toes will develop in the next few days.

The umbilical cord contains 3 blood vessels which link your baby's system to yours. The big one supplies your baby with blood which is rich in oxygen. The two smaller blood vessels return blood to the placenta. This blood is low in oxygen, and full of waste materials. At birth, umbilical cord can be two to four feet long.

Heartbeat info~ I am from 14 weeks, but wanted to let you know that heartrate to determine gender is not accurate, especially at this point. The heart rate is naturally much higher in early pregnancy as baby is doing some major developing. With both my current childrent, their heart rates were above 160, one is a boy and one a girl. About 12 weeks the heart rate will start to go down to around 160's....
Also many studies have been done that conclude heart rate does not mean a specific gender.cowgirlygirl28 -

So after all the advice about stupid saltine crackers (yuck!) I decided to listen. 40mins before the time I need to get up for work (I set the alarm for this) I eat 3 saltine crackers. I have to dip them in water lol! I can't eat those dry things by themselves and if I drink liquids I throw up immediately. It has worked 2 mornings in a row. I can now feel my stomach getting empty. NO LIE! When I start getting that little hint of nausea I know it's time to eat again. I'm eating every 3 hours now. Little meals here and there. This has really helped. I'm also wearing seabands from rite aid. They help but not as much as the crackers. If i start the morning off right the rest of the day isn't so bad.
I was throwing up 5-8 times a day! I haven't thrown up in 2 days. KNOCK ON WOOD! The mix between small meals and crackers before getting up is working!one4betty -

lainyi: i work full time too and have found that it is easier to just throw up in a trash can than trying to run to the back to go to the bathroom. really wasn't too keen on the idea of holding my head at the toilet everyone uses... yuck.. i can eat something for breakfast but give it a couple of hours and it is back again. it has became a joke at the shop. i work with mostly men and they find it amusing. i don't.. but i guess it is the price we have to pay for our future bundles of joy. hope you ladies have a great day..kanojoca -

This is to all the ladies who are tired!! I am sitting here looking at the pig sty of a house and laundry and all the things i was supposed to do today and you know what who cares!!!! i feel guilty but oh my god i just want to sleep and sleep! Yesterday i took one of the residents (work as activity org. in a care home) for an enhanced care session to the conservatory and my hidden agenda was that her dementia is so gone she won't tell anybody that i just put the tv on for her and fell asleep for 2hours!!! Bad employee but great sleep!!! My heart goes out too all those mothers who have children running aroudn the house, this is my first and i can't imagine feeling like this with a two year old at my heels!!kanojoca -

Sea bands....i caved in and bought those this morning!! :) I figured i'll try anything, as its not the fact i'm throwing up all the time i'm trying not too, but i feel so sick and its all day and all night. Another good tip is i went to my first swimming aqua class on monday and it really helped my tummy! anyone that is struggling with no energy and sickness that doesn't go away try going to the pool for an hour! The aqua class was great as well, and it helps with the hot flashes cause you just go under water. Take it easy the first time, i was knackered after 10min but stayed on for the full hour!!!!!hyperwink -

Okay, good news on the SeaBands. I moved them down a little farther than they were supposed to be and that seems to have done the trick! I'm still a little queasy but I ate cereal for dinner last night and breakfast this morning and kept both meals down! Didn't even feel sick while I was eating! Baby steps and fingers crossed but I may never take these off...okay maybe with caution after week 12. Does anyone know if it is okay to leave them on all of the time? I slept in them last night.pepperdawn -

good morning ladies. the ms won't give up and it is kicking my tail. my house looks like a tornado has hit it. i just don't have the energy to fool with it. i can wash the clothes, but the dishes are a no no. it is nice to know that i am not the only one trying to avoid puking all day. my doctor prescribed Frozan, and it works a little. does anyone else have that swimming feeling in your head? i feel so dizzy sometimes. samanthaandbaby - About 2 wks ago I had to go to the ER... I had a heavy bleed. It was just one instance and was not accompanied by cramping or clotting and everything is fine. This also happened to me during my 1st pregnancy. I never really did get an explanation either time other than, 'some women just have bleeding during their pregnancy'. I spotted up until 2 days ago. Its just happens sometimes, but it is definitely a good thing you went to the ER... plus you got an early u/s!!!! yahhhh!!!
I've also have had some serious problems with m/s... uughhh, last time I was preggo I stopped signing in here all together because I couldn't even move without hurling. It was awful. This time it is pretty much nausea all day but its been at bay so far, Believe it or not - having my kids home with me and keeping me busy has helped.... I don't know how. I keep thinking its going to get so bad again. I'm praying it doesn't. Oh well~ happy 8 wks everyone!!TDGLASS05 -

8 weeks today! i had an u/s yesterday and was told that i am one whole day further than we thought :) I had a scare yesterday...a tiny bit of spotting. i went to the ER and everything looked fine. my little bean had a strong heart beat, cervix was closed, and HCG levels were great. i have another blood test tomorrow to make sure that the HCG has doubled. i was told that the spotting may have been due to an infection. so i was given antibiotics for an infection that i may or may not have. Things look good though, so we are just praying that the little one is safe and sound. please say a prayer for us just in case!hyperwink -

Hi there, am about 8 weeks and have escaped morning sickness so far. Apart from complete exhaustion and the lack of AF I do not feel pregnant at all! I took 2 tests, both positive and went to the doc. She used a doppler and we heard my heartbeat and then what she said was the baby's heartbeat. Am a bit confused as I have read that it is not possible to pick up the heartbeat until a good bit later. My Doc's apptmt was a week ago. Could I be further along than I thought!?hollybobollys1st -

Hey guys, thanks for all the wonderful comments! They have helped me so much. I've tried preggie pops and they really help for ms. You can find them by typing preggie pops in google. Ginger ale and crackers were not cutting it and I was sick all day long. It's not a cure but it helps a lot.
It's so funny, before I got pregnant I was a neat freak and now all I do is laz around and sleep! Hope I snap out of it!KittyLynn20 -

I ve been with my boyfriend for only a few months, and at first i cleaned, made supper and did everything i could to help and make him happy. But now that im pregnant, all i do is sleep and feel sick and sooo hot. I dont feel like doing nothing i use to do.... My boyfriend thinks it was just the new relationship phase, but i know i ve always been like that. Now we argue more, and i feel like total crap. do you guys think i should get up my bum and act like before to save our relationship, or stay calm in bed and sleep the hours i need?? ormsby2 -

I could've killed my husband when he said yesterday 'dont you think you could be sleeping a little too much?' grrrr. Men can be so insensitive sometimes.lauren3509 -

Just wanted to drop a note for all you poor nauseated moms to be. I am on Diclectin for my nausea and had to use it for my last pregnancy the whole time. This time I feel more sick so I heard about using motion or seasick wrist bands, I bought some today and so far I actually got hungry enough to eat lunch. Usually even with my meds I have been feeling really sick off and on, so I will keep you all posted in a few days to let you know if it works out for me or not. I got them in my local pharmacy, I couldn't find them so I asked and thank godness they had some. Take care all xxx.yoginima -

I am so sick and so tired I honestly haven't had the emotions or thoughts to be excited or happy. This is my second child and it's been 15 years since my daughter so this is a 'new' of an old experience if you know what I mean. Breathing makes me sick. I can't eat anything and yet I am starving. What gives! I want to cry but don't have the energy. I worry that this is unhealthy for my baby. My 1st Ultrasound is next Monday. I hope all is ok. When will this pass? I hear after my 1st trimester and then there are those that feel sick the entire pregnancy. I am getting depressed. kymommy -
