By the end of your second month of pregnancy, your baby is about the size of a pinto bean and is approximately 14 to 20 mm long. If this is your first pregnancy, you still probably will not be showing yet. However, if this is not your first pregnancy you might be able to tell that you are pregnant. You will notice a slight change in how your clothes fit and your doctor can tell that your uterus is larger than normal. Before you were pregnant, your uterus was about the size of your fist. However, by 6 weeks of pregnancy, your uterus has grown to the size of a grapefruit!
Your baby is developing at an amazing rate during these early weeks. Eyelid folds and ears are forming. Your baby\'s eyes are still very wide apart on the sides of her head, but will eventually center themselves out. The tip of the nose is actually present at this time as well. On ultrasound you can see that the aortic and pulmonary valves of the heart are present. The tubes that lead from the throat to lungs are branching and your baby\'s torso is getting longer and beginning to straighten out. Just a few weeks ago, your baby\'s arms were tiny buds. Now the elbows are actually present and the arms and legs extend forward and have grown longer. Fingers and toes are becoming visible also.
One of the symptoms that you might feel around this time of your pregnancy is cramping or pain in your lower abdomen or side as your uterus grows. Some pregnant women feel tightening or contractions of the uterus. Do not get alarmed if you do not feel this though. If tightening of the uterus or contractions is accompanied by bleeding, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. Many pregnant women also experience an occasional pain that begins in their buttocks and radiates down their back or legs. This is known as sciatic nerve pain and can be extremely painful at times. More than likely the pain is caused by the pressure on the nerve and it is best to lie on the opposite side to relieve the pressure.
The tiny person growing inside of your uterus is protected by the amniotic sac, filled with amniotic fluid. Inside, the child swims and moves gracefully. The arms and legs have lengthened, and fingers can be seen. The toes will develop in the next few days.
The umbilical cord contains 3 blood vessels which link your baby\'s system to yours. The big one supplies your baby with blood which is rich in oxygen. The two smaller blood vessels return blood to the placenta. This blood is low in oxygen, and full of waste materials. At birth, umbilical cord can be two to four feet long.

I hate always peeing at night! :( I try so hard to hold it!
ChristyTorres - 2.6 hours ago
Kla I try so hard to hold it at night but ugh it's only going to get worse in the last trimester with DS I literally felt like I had to go every 10-15 minutes but I never actually peed but I could never tell if i had to go or not lol. I also had horrible headaches which are starting again '(
kla.west.baby - 3.6 hours ago
I made the realization this morning at 5pm while sitting on the toilet that I haven't made it through the night without going to the bathroom in a week now. . . And so the fun begins. I also considered etching a tally into the wall to track how many times I go to the bathroom each night. put down one right now, then when it starts hitting 2, etch another. I don't know why I felt the need to do that. Maybe so my husband can wake up and realize just how many times i've had to get out of bed that night :) baha. What a crazy prego rant I've just made

eliciamadora - 9.5 hours ago
you know what. you can't do ANYTHING while pregnant. everything is risky it seems. why don't they just stick us in a bubble for gods sake.
alicia-n-baby - 9.6 hours ago
kla - dont worry eventually he will get excited! esp when he see that there is actually a living being in your belly!! lol Also about not being able to have canned soup...what??? Seriously one day pregnant women will have to be in a bubble according to all these things they keep adding to the unsafe while pregnant list...nothing will be safe during pregnancy! haha As for me I will eat canned soup, lunch meat, have a cup of coffee and everything will be ok! :)
kt7777 - 9.7 hours ago

hi hope everyone is well this is my third pregnancy and have been told i might have to consider a home birth this time has anyone ever had one before and how did you find it??
kla.west.baby - 10.6 hours ago
Today's craving: spaghetti-o's! yum :) so far the only thing that's a for sure go-to food no matter what is soup. We've gone through so much soup! If you could keep me in your prayers or thoughts tomorrow, I would greatly appreciate it. We have our first 'real' u/s tomorrow where we'll be able to see baby and hear heartbeat. I really need my husband to get on board with this pregnancy. He's having such a hard time with it and I just want to see him happy. How can you not smile at a little bean with a heartbeat??

kla.west.baby - 1 days ago
edl. That happened to me as well. I went in thinking I was almost 8 weeks (according to my last period) and went to my ultra sound and couldn't see the baby, just the sack. After measuring the sack, they bumped me back to 6w1d. (I had been super stressed that month, it must have pushed my period back) I have another ultra sound on monday so we'll see how everything looks then. I understand, it's scary and makes it feel like something is wrong. But hold in there!
edl37452 - 1 days ago
ok so last week i had an ultrasound done and the doc wasnt able to see the baby only the sac and said maybe its just bc im earlier then i think i am and honestly thats what i am hoping but im not sure i think my last period was dec 12 so it puts me at 8 weeks has this happend to anyone else???

Thanks to another IAP member - I semi have my profile back but who knows for how long!!! lol There is a private facebook group for IAP mamas that are due in 2012. You ladies should ask to join. There is alot of memebers and noone can see your post unless they are a member!! :) Its called IAP Mama's 2012 :)
alicia-n-baby - 2 days ago
A fellow IAP member has figured out how to recover your profile for those who cant log in anymore. This is how it worked for me. 'I think I know why people's profiles are getting deleted...at least for me- I tried to add a ticker- and my entire profile got wiped. I thought I lost all of my info- it turns out- if you 1-can't login- make a new sign in- with your same info, 2- go to add a picture and your photos will pop up, 3- your profile info will be gone- but at least the pictures will be there'

Mrs Grey- How terrible. It must be such a hard time for you and your fiance. . Praying that you can mourn your child and hopefully have another soon . .
mrs. myers (Jessie) - 2 days ago
Mrs. Gray, I am so very sorry for your loss. It's nothing you did, though, I'm sure. Miscarriages this early are usually a result of something wrong on a chromosome level, and your body knows the baby wouldn't survive otherwise, so it miscarries. It's a horrible, horrible thing to go through, but our bodies seem to know what's best, and yours must have known that something wasn't right. I'm so very sorry. Are they going to do any tests after the D&C? Maybe they'll be able to tell what the problem was. I hope you and your fiance are able to conceive again and get the beautiful baby you two deserve.
kla.west.baby - 2 days ago
Oh man, I don't know if it was just because I had done a lot of standing yesterday or what, but I was deficiently experiencing some pain right above my pelvis that I'm assuming came from the uterus growing but idk. By the end of the day it felt like I had been doing crunches all day long!
twinklestar - 2 days ago

Hello ladies! Just moved here today from week 7. This is my first pregnancy and I have to say, it's going brutally slow!
kt7777 - 3 days ago
twinklestar-! i was just about to ask the same question !! i am 8 weeks 2 days today and have been nauseous since before i found out i was pregnant so since around 4 weeks and as of yesterday i have barely had any nausea which is weird for me ! i may have had an hour total yesterday and right now im just feeling kinda crappy but not even close to enough to make me want to get sick ! with my son i had bad nausea from the end of week 7 til the end of week 9 and that was it ... it kind of worries me but hey i guess if the baby is growing well and i am over the morning sickness i am not complaining !!!
