By the end of your second month of pregnancy, your baby is about the size of a pinto bean and is approximately 14 to 20 mm long. If this is your first pregnancy, you still probably will not be showing yet. However, if this is not your first pregnancy you might be able to tell that you are pregnant. You will notice a slight change in how your clothes fit and your doctor can tell that your uterus is larger than normal. Before you were pregnant, your uterus was about the size of your fist. However, by 6 weeks of pregnancy, your uterus has grown to the size of a grapefruit!
Your baby is developing at an amazing rate during these early weeks. Eyelid folds and ears are forming. Your baby\'s eyes are still very wide apart on the sides of her head, but will eventually center themselves out. The tip of the nose is actually present at this time as well. On ultrasound you can see that the aortic and pulmonary valves of the heart are present. The tubes that lead from the throat to lungs are branching and your baby\'s torso is getting longer and beginning to straighten out. Just a few weeks ago, your baby\'s arms were tiny buds. Now the elbows are actually present and the arms and legs extend forward and have grown longer. Fingers and toes are becoming visible also.
One of the symptoms that you might feel around this time of your pregnancy is cramping or pain in your lower abdomen or side as your uterus grows. Some pregnant women feel tightening or contractions of the uterus. Do not get alarmed if you do not feel this though. If tightening of the uterus or contractions is accompanied by bleeding, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. Many pregnant women also experience an occasional pain that begins in their buttocks and radiates down their back or legs. This is known as sciatic nerve pain and can be extremely painful at times. More than likely the pain is caused by the pressure on the nerve and it is best to lie on the opposite side to relieve the pressure.
The tiny person growing inside of your uterus is protected by the amniotic sac, filled with amniotic fluid. Inside, the child swims and moves gracefully. The arms and legs have lengthened, and fingers can be seen. The toes will develop in the next few days.
The umbilical cord contains 3 blood vessels which link your baby\'s system to yours. The big one supplies your baby with blood which is rich in oxygen. The two smaller blood vessels return blood to the placenta. This blood is low in oxygen, and full of waste materials. At birth, umbilical cord can be two to four feet long.

Anyone know of any information that can help I would be so so greatful. We had another ultrasound today the one twin looks fantastic and is even measuring a day ahead. The other his gestational sac is measuring at 5 weeks 5 days and he is at 7 weeks 4 days ( the other 8 weeks 2 days) he is quickly running out of room and fluid levels I'm absolutely afraid he will pass his heart rate was good though but he was all curled up to get a good look at because he is just so squished do you ladies know I have heard of it once of a dr or anything that can connect them to share the fluid or any ideas how to aid in levels and growth of the gestational sac? The babies are almost touching they are so close and I heard a procedure the lazer holes in between them to share fluid but can't find anything I'm a nervous wreck we have lost 3 babies in the past and this is just not what I was expecting to hear today. Any advice or web links would be appreciated

Onnumber4 - 7 days ago
Hello Ladies. I am back from week 9 into week 8. I had a scan today and baby measured 8+1. I thought I was 9weeks from my LMP. My new DD is 24 Dec. I'm a bit disappointed as I want to get out of Morning Sickness Hell and out the 'danger zone'. My next scan is June 18th. 5 long weeks away!
NDmom - 9 days ago
Morning sickness is getting better but this evening night time sickness is getting old! I throw up every night now! Doesnt matter what I eat and it comes up!!! The vitamin b6 and night time sleep aid really helps with morning sickness for the most part! Now im wondering if I can take mirilax?

Onnumber4 - 15 days ago
I went for a private, early reassurance scan yesterday. I was getting so paranoid and worried so I decided to get one to put my mind at ease. Well I am pregnant :) There is only one baby in there phew! and I could see a little heart beating. I measured 7 weeks though, which'd put my DD to 21 Dec eek! but they did say it's hard to get an accurate measurement this early so I'll stick with 8 weeks till I get my hospital scan next month. Morning sickness has suddenly worn off yesterday. It's still there but no were near as bad. I should be grateful really.
lexico22 - 15 days ago
Hi everyone in week 8! It sounds like a forum full of pregnant ladies! I love it! :) I have been feeling pretty normal and lately it's kind of worrysome.. while I know I should be glad im not sick or having tenderness in my chest etc I kind of appreciate those annoyances because then I know im pregnant. I dont even feel pregnant this time and maybe others are feeling normal too?? i have my first appointment tomorrow so we'll see if all is well!
jmama2013 - 16 days ago
hello week 8. So glad to make it this far:) nausea set in for me last week and it is getting hard to hide from my kids. my daughter is 11 and knows what it means when i get sick a lot. i was going to wait until 12 weeks to tell the kids but may tell them after my next ultra sound at 9 weeks.

ShireeT - 16 days ago
Have my first appointment on Thursday!
Whoo-hoo!
Nervous about my dad. He has a bad heart valve. It is hereditary. I'm worried for my kids, and also for myself because I have always had these random episodes where I am suddenly faint and am tired all the time.

Hey ladies saw baby today FHR is 164! They changed my EDD to 12/13/13 but I'm going to be delivering around 37 weeks 11/22/13ish due to complications in previous pregnancies so I'm just going to stay with this week

MS is better then with my last pregnancy. But its also more tempermental. Before I knew what triggered it and what times I would be out of luck. This time every few days the times are switching, random food kills me and it happens out of know where. Frustrated.
lelamg01 - 20 days ago
I stayed home sick from work today. When does the nausciousness stop! I want my normal digestive system back! Have any of you been hungrier lately too? My stomach gets so hungry so easily at work. Is anyone else having to work a full time job and dealing with this?
lostandfound1684 - 20 days ago

Man I read comments and I sit it for half a second looking for the like button lol! We really need a like button
sarebear - 22 days ago
that happened to me blue stork and sometimes still does, i was getting really tired during the night, what was happening was the pregnancy congestion/sniffles/blocked up etc...so i was having to use my mouth to breathe instead of my nose, which was making me dry out and get really really thirsty at night
blue-stork(blue) - 22 days ago
Oh man I can't get enough water at night! I have to drink at least 2 1/2-3 bottles of water before bed for the thirsty feeling to go away and then I wake up 2-4 times a night to drink and go bathroom! I drink during the day so it's not that I'm not drinking enough!
lelamg01 - 22 days ago
Emily 1988, I am also interested in the FB group due in Dec but I could not locate you on FB.
lostandfound1684 - 22 days ago
Blue that is heartbreaking, I am so sorry about your little boy! I got mine around 4 or 5 weeks hoping to hear it then but I'm sure that was impossible. Ive tried it recently but it does fluctuate too much for me. It seems to always start at 135 or 125 then disappear then go back then slowly come down to 100 or less which I know is mine. I'm gonna check out that site though, maybe I'm doing it wrong!
blue-stork(blue) - 22 days ago
Lostandfound, I baught mine mainly to use later but wanna use it ASAP! My other baby passed at 38weeks 5days during my c section because my placenta ran out of nutrition when I went to the dr that day his heart rate was 88bpm and I was rushed to hospital. I got the Doppler so I can monitor baby at home and can know before its to late if something is wrong with baby and possibly save this one!
lostandfound1684 - 22 days ago
Blue-stork I gave up on using my doppler for now for that reason. It was driving me crazy because Id think id find it/hear it one day, then not the next! Plus this being my 5th pregnancy there's a lil 'more to love' in my tummy area and Ive wondered if that's my problem :/ I heard its a lot easier to find after 9 wks, and ive also heard after 12 wks, so who really knows! I thought having one would bring peace of mind but I guess not til later on :(
myfirstmkc - 22 days ago
Blue-strok: I couldn't hear anything when I saw the elevated heart rate on screen and when I could hear, I saw some random numbers on the screen. When I tried next day, I couldn't see or hear anything. So I decided to wait till the weekend to try again..
As you have your doc appointment Friday, may be you could take the doppler with you and ask them to show how to use it?
blue-stork(blue) - 23 days ago
:-( I still haven't heard baby and no one will help me look! They all say its to soon!
Martin515 - 23 days ago
Myfirstmkc- with a heart rate that high, it had to be baby. That's exciting! Can't wait until we can start picking up those heartbeats everyday. It's so reassuring that all is well.
blue-stork(blue) - 24 days ago

Hello all, I just entered week 8 starting on Saturday. I am still nauscious and constipated. Started taking Colace today. Also having heartburn.
myfirstmkc - 25 days ago

I found this to be very helpful
myfirstmkc - 25 days ago
Martin - congratulations! that is wonderful!
I got my doppler today and heard 150-175bpm (they were fluctuating) for a brief second twice!! I am just assuming that its the baby. Any thoughts?
Martin515 - 25 days ago
Well my appointment went fine. The ultrasound tech was measuring this and that and the whole time I was thinking 'lady, is there a heartbeat?!' There was. Thank God! Now to wait 4 more long weeks for the next appointment. They should go by quick bc I have a first bday party to throw for my son. Yay! And then a weekend trip to Wild adventures. You know you're getting older when that gets you excited. Any kind of weekend trip sounds wonderful to me. Hope everyone is doing well!
myfirstmkc - 26 days ago
Martin - I had the same feeling when I first walked into doctor's office for u/s. I was so scared and infact looked away from the screen till I heard that beautiful heart beat..
