The things no one tells you no.3:
Getting the shakes after birth

Mumofsix` featured blog about things no one tells you.

`I thought I would, every now and then,
add a little bit of info that
took me by surprise with my first baby.
`

OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

Someone else left me a message that they thought I should add to this section and it is one I can relate to. Soon after birth it is not uncommon to get the shakes, not because of blood loss or cold just a very normal body response after birth. My legs and especially my thighs can become uncontrollable. This has also happened to me during the transition phase of birth. I cannot blame it on a long labor either as my last 3 were only 2 hours. I have heard labor likened to running a marathon the body goes thru a lot and uses huge amounts of energy.
My shaking doesn't last too long and then I'm up in the shower but it's good to know this may happen so don't get a fright.

I had the shakes really bad after my section. About 2 days after. It turned out to be rigors from an internal infection. I had to be re-admitted to the hospital and giving antibiotics through IV.

I have gotten the shakes before every c-section. I have had 3 and when they wheel me into the surgery wing I start shaking uncontrollable. And it becomes a problem for them to put in my spinal. But I eventually stops and things go on as scheduled. I'm due in January so I know I will have the shakes before this surgery also. But sylest it will be the last time. We are stopping at 4 even if we don't get our lil girl.

After a vag birth I didn't, but after my c-sect I did, very badly. Since I had the spinal I only had upper body shakes, but it felt like all over. The nurse took one of those hose blower heaters and put it under my blanket. It was like she hit the off switch for the shakes! It was amazingly relaxing and I was finally able to ask questions about the baby I only got to see for a few seconds!

I see alot of people got c sections and their shakes. Although I guess i never put much thought into if woman got them if they had c sections. i had just heard you got them for vaginal. i was in labor 17 1/2 hours and i got the shakes really bad right after she was born and you try to fight through them and it isnt easy. lukcily my hubby wasnt freaked out though because they had kinda talked about it in lamaze class. so i jsut reminded him. i heard it has to do with the major release of hormones after your baby is birthed. i wonder if this is the same for woman who have drugs and woman who dont???

I had a c-section Nov.20th (my 3rd) and I got the shakes in my upper body badly. It was REALLY bad. I tried to fight it and get them to calm down. Made it worse. Stopped after a couple of hours though.

I had my first baby on the 16th of last month. I got the shakes too. I was shaking and shivering and I felt REALLY COLD! I didn't know what was wrong with me! It scared the hell outta me.. but I discovered that it was perfectly normal!

after my second child i had the shaked very bad, and i didnt have it with my first so it scared me. While in the hospital, i woke up shaking uncontrollably and sweating like crazy, the nurse said it was because of everything my body had just been through, and all the changes in hormones. it went away after 2 days.

I had the shaked for 2 days after giving birth! My nurses told me a lot of women have them and not to worry. And they went away after a day or two! Everyone thought I was cold, it was funny trying to explain to my bf that I wasnt cold that I just was shaking for no reason.

I noticed that I began the shakes just as it was time for pushing. Just as they started to put my legs up in the stir-ups they were convulsing. Everyone just thought I was getting nervous.lol.......So I guess you can also get them right before the birth also.
