The things no one tells you no.4:
Birthing and nakedness

Mumofsix` featured blog about things no one tells you.

`I thought I would, every now and then,
add a little bit of info that
took me by surprise with my first baby.
`

OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

I had been quite a modest person and was not quite sure how I would like having people peering at my private anatomy but believe me when I say, I could not have cared less who was in the room when giving birth. Pushing is the only time that you really need to bare all unless you don't care and also for the odd check of the cervix along the way. All I was focused on was having my baby and I was going to do that in any state of being dressed or undressed as long as I was comfortable. Your body becomes tuned into birthing and nakedness is as far from a sexual thing as possible at that time. So for those who are worried about loss of dignity, shed the fear because the process of birth takes over and becomes your central focus.

I hate the idea of people looking at me naked, I don't even let my sisters in the bathroom when I'm just changing my shirt, I guess I'll have to suck it up and hope the baby comes quick while nobody is looking at me haha.

Hehe I was the same... I still got monthly brazillian waxes so I didnt have hair while giving birth,, I thought I would be fully dressed except bottoms while giving birth and I was very much naked... Hehe I didnt care.!

With my first I said I just wanted my hubby in the room...but then my mom wanted to be there..then my two sisters...Then my husband's grandma...and his aunt....and about 5 or 6 students! It was PACKED!! But I didn't care. It was nice to have the company during labor and once it was time to push, my only concern was bringing my baby girl into the world!! With my last two though, it went down to my husband, mom, and sisters. This time, maybe just my husband but my mom always sneaks her way in the delivery room lol so we'll see!

I felt the same way until around 7 or 8 in the morning when I realized that the reason I was vomiting was because I was so hot, so I said, "Get these clothes off me. Get a cold rag and ice water and apply it to my back." All modesty went out the window.

i had an epidural, due to back labour and cervical scarring hindering my dilation, so had no pain and no urge to push, when i was told i was ready to deliver i got undressed. i was concerned that i'd look a little odd as i was under no strain so really it wasn't a necessity. I really actually wanted to be naked when i delivered. i wanted the feeling of my daughter snuggled into my skin immediately after delivery, and i got my wish, it was truly wonderful and i will NEVER forget that first hold, feeling her whole body pressed into mine. it was amazing. as i work in a hospital as a care assistant i see naked people all the time so i knew it wasn't an issue for my midwife, after 1 minute i felt completely at ease with my nudity. i have to say, naked births are fantastic, i will definately do it like that again.

yeb! we're gonna feel the breeze! i couldnt care less about showing it to the people in the room and believe me they dont even care either! the only comment from the nurse was "hey dad, u're gonna get a brand new vagina there!" she said that to my hubby while the doc was stitching it up!

as a nieve young mother, i was so mortified at the prospect of a room full of ppl seeing me "down there". i worried about it up until the first contraction. trust me new moms, you wont care WHO sees ur vag, at the time i wasnt worried about any stranger seeing what i had on top of any family member, though im really glad my dad skiped the delivery room hehehe

I thought to myself during pregnancy, "Why do all these women have their clothes off? I'm not going to be like that." Ha! After several hours of labor, off came the clothes. Why? I was afire. Every contraction was like a torch had been placed on me, and I was getting sick.

ok I have a comment on the shaving question, I did shave before i had both of my daughters. I was nervous that i didnt do it very well, lol. i am a regular shaver, but with a belly that big its hard to see! I asked my husband to check for me to see if I had done a good job. Just get yours to help you with it. Hell, if you cant get the help grap a mirror. i liked the feeling that there wouldnt be all of that down there. I guess women that shave just feel better about it. but if you are thinking about it and feel that you will be more comfortable with it then DO IT. Dont worry about what anyone thinks about it. I will be doing it again this time around, Good luck to all!!

Anyone have any info on shaving down there while pregnant and being in labor????

txcopswife - Sunday, 10 Aug
This is so true. I remember getting my epidural and thinking that my big stretch mark covered butt was completely exposed to the doctor and I didn't care ONE BIT!!

MillysMum - Sunday, 27 Jul
YES!! Being chubby befor i was even pregnant made me modest too..going swimming i wear shorts and a tshirt kinda modest.. but once i was in labour.. i didnt care at all about being naked and letting it all hang out!! I was in too much pain to be bothered with that!! It was the last thing on my mind!

Jo-Mama - Tuesday, 15 Jul
This is so true! When I got to the hospital, I was 6 cm dilated and so tired. Once I finally got a room, I stripped off my clothes and jumped in the tub. I laboured totally naked for about 6 hours. When I got out to push, the midwife asked if I wanted a towel, but I didn't want to feel anything on my skin. So I pushed for 2 hours totally naked. I was naked the whole time! I really didn't care at all. All that stuff I packed for the hospital stayed packed.

I completely agree! I gave birth at a teaching hospital and of course with their permission I allowed students/residents in the room. However I had no idea how many they meant. I am not kidding there must have been 10 people in the room besides me and my husband. The hospital is new and the rooms are HUGE.. we could have roller bladed in there. At one point I had 7 faces looking "down" there! I only felt uncomfortable for a second or two. It was acatually kind of cool to have a crowd like that cheering you on. Also seeing the excitment on their face gave me motivation. It sounds funny but it's true!
