The things no one tells you no.34.:
Is it normal to be this obsessed?

Mumofsix` featured blog about things no one tells you.

`I thought I would, every now and then,
add a little bit of info that
took me by surprise with my first baby.
`

OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

When you hit the final stages of pregnancy, labour can feel like an obsession. Unless you keep yourself busy it's too easy to have your thoughts totally taken up by possible twinges, secretions, you name it, we try to make it a sign that labour is about to begin only to be disappointed.

Even though I am on my sixth baby and am kept pretty busy with day to day activities I do find I cannot stop reading about birth. You would think I should know it all by now but it makes me feel somewhat connected to my baby and keeps my anticipation and excitement alive. Sometimes I feel like I am so inside my head thinking about meeting my baby that if anyone talks to me it is an invasion. Now I maybe making it sound a bit more extreme than it actually is but from others I have talked to it is an obsession most of us seem to have, you are not going crazy. What's wrong with being excited about the arrival of your little one?

I personally begin the obsession early on, as soon as I find out I am pregnant actually. I begin following the stages of babies growth via any info I can get my hands on and find it fascinating, the closer I get to birth the stronger my obsession becomes. At present I am 2 weeks away from my due date, keeping really busy to help the time pass and even though I have been feeling very patient until now I can feel the anticipation levels rising and I feel ready to hold my baby.

Pregnancy and birth are one of the most amazing experiences that we can have and it doesn't happen often, It's well worth the crazy behavior. Don't feel bad about it.

I read so much about labor and pregnancy while I was pregnant, I could not get enough information. One thing I wish I would have also been researching was parenting books as well. By the time the baby gets there you have read so much on your pregnancy and now you have the baby so now what?!! Of course you find your way and it all works out but it would have been nice to read a little more into mommyhood. I read what to expect in the first year, which is a good book but it barely scratched the surface of what I was really in store for.

LOLLL talking about my baby (really to my husband, fam and close friends the most) and reading literature about babies is ALL that I want to do. I get irrationally irritated when I think of having to work instead of being able to be a FULL time mom. My husband and I are working on that though. :)

OOh So true, it's my due date tomorrow with our first baby and longing for some signsof labour!! I've read stacks of books/magazines, the internet etc I'd say for over a year and throughout my pregnancy our baby to be has been at the fore front of all my thoughts, we just can't wait to meet our little bundle now, hopefully not too much longer to go, Jools

Burning and stinging when peeing. ouchy! but mid wife told me about Witch hazel; completely natural skin toner available from chemist. Put some on sanitary/maternity towel. Very soothing

I do feel that I get so caught up in thoughts of meeting my baby that anyone who talks to me is an interuption. Unfortunately, even at work. And I'm at a customer service job...so I take it out on them at times. I'm 5 weeks away from my due date, but I just feel like it should be here NOW! Especially considering the fact that my doctors have told me "plan on him making his grand entrance up to two weeks later than his estimated arrival date". So I guess that's why 5 weeks feels like a lifetime 'cause I have to think 5 weeks + some. Eh. Not only that, but I'm sure most pregnant mothers can agree when I say the throwing up, no matter where you are, is getting rather old!!

definately true i cant think about anything else now. every morning i wake i think will it be today? please hurry. i try to think he will come soon enough when he is ready and it will be no more than another 2 1/2 weeks but that seems like a lifetime away. its crazy but at least we know we all feel the same way

Obsessed with labor/signs/ idea of holding him. AND terrified at the same time. Maybe that's your next post? The anticipation of guilt and doing things wrong?? ;0) But I think, since I'm prepared to do things wrong, I won't be so shocked and dismayed when I do! And maybe instead of a college fund, I should set up a therapist-fund?? Mildly neurotic and extremely eager, Jen.

This is one of my favorite posts, this is so true for me as well. I have never been so obsessed with anything as I have been with the pregnancy and birth of my two babies! These last two weeks have gone by so slow!!!!
