hi I had pre-c with my first baby I gained 18 lbs in 1 week I was swollen all over my blood pressure was through the roof and I had protein and blood on my urine. It all happened suddenly it was not gradual I was 18 days till my due date they had to induce me. the week before at my check up everything was normal. The weird thing is the doctors don't even know what causes it. And because of this they can't prevent it I hope you don't have it because it was not fun the swelling was very painful

From what I know of pre-e, it would be excessive swelling and sudden weight gain, protein in urine, and high BP. I had HG for most of my early preg, and I had to check for protein in my urine everyday. Protein can be elevated if you are getting dehydrated, or right after you eat a meal. I am sure your doc will keep an eye on you if they feel pre-e is lurking in the shadows.

There are 3 classic things to look out for with pre-eclampsia, protein in urine, high BP and excessive swelling. 1 out of 3 is ok, 2 out of three they will keep a closer eye on you and if you've got all three then they will usually send you to the hospital to be checked over or put u on bedrest for a few days. If you also start to get headaches, dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, fever, double or blurred vision, palpitations, ringing or buzzing in your ears then you should contact your dr straight away. I hope this helps. All the best, try not to worry about it as it is something that is completely out of your control, try and enjoy your pregnancy. xxx

Protein in your urine without a rise in blood pressure could signify a liver or kidney condition. HOWEVER, "trace" amounts of protein are totally normal and your doctor will most likely not show any concern unless you have a +1 or +2 on your protein test. Also, a small amount of swelling is a common pregnancy complaint. The swelling associated with pre-eclampsia is so severe, that many times it causes lack of movement / range of motion in your fingers and toes. Try to relax, as long as your blood pressure is healthy then you don't have pre-eclampsia. And even if you do develop it, it's not the end of the world. In todays obstetrics field they have very good means of monitoring and managing such things that will keep you healthy all the way through your 40 weeks. I know all this because I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 12 weeks pregnant with my first pregnancy, spent the last 5 months of my pregnancy on bed rest and was still able to carry him to 41 1/2 weeks and deliver a healthy baby boy will no long term effects. Hope I helped!

You can have a little protien in your urine, and not have it. If your doc was worried, they'd be taking extra special care of you. If your bp is good, I think you're safe.
