I`m 7 weeks with my first baby and yesterday I got an electric shock from my mains circuit at home. I am worried that I have done harm to the baby. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I could really do with some help, even if it`s to put my mind at ease. I also don`t want to freak out unecessarily about this. Thanks very much.

Hi I actually had a similar experience, I was cleaning the microwave with a damp rag and got a shock through the door. I was concerned but all turned out well.

Once you are not having any pains you should be fine. You should let your doctor know on your next visit. Congrats on the pregnancy :)

I would like to assume that an electric shock would be different than you actually closing a circuit by coming into contact with the breaker switch panel. If you feel weird at all, as in light headed, dizzy or more uncoordinated than before- go get checked out. I had an issue with my blow dryer cord dipping into the sink which was running- (I was having a total idiot moment) and I started feeling an electric buzz traveling up my arm and I could put down the blow dryer voluntarily. I ended up going to the hospital later for palpatations but the over all experience was more of a panic issue than anything else. I believe that if you were suffering come serious troubles that would be an indicator for immediate attention. To put your mind to ease asking a nurse practitioner may be the quickest tension releiver for you. I would worry too much about it and just keep note of any oddities that come along. :)

Probably if you didn't experience any cramping or bleeding it was fine. The baby is well protected.

I would talk with your doctor about this however I think you are pretty safe. Babies are well protected in their little sac.

When I was pregnant with my last baby, I was on the computer during a bad thunderstorm. Lightning struck and I got shocked while I was using the laptop. It made my body jump and my husband said I leaped across the room. It was quite a shock and I had some tummy cramps afterwards. I called my doctor and they did want to see me to make sure. Tey listened to the heartbeat and did an ultrasound to make sure everything was fine and it was. To make sure, I would call your doctor and tell them what happened. Because you are still so early, they wont be able to detect the heartbeat with the doppler yet and you can not feel any movements to ease your mind, but an ultrasound can show how the baby is doing. Best wishes!

To ease your mind I would ring the Dr'. There is nothing to loose to ask. Have you had any spotting? If so, you should also report that to your Dr'. I'm sure everything will turn out. :-)
