Hi Moms and moms-to-be! I am currently at 9 weeks and have recently been losing my appetite. At first I thought I was just sick of the food I had at home as I was able to eat out just fine, but now that is even diminishing, and then I thought maybe I was constipated, but I`m not that either. So what is the deal? I am concerned as I have already lost 2 lbs. I have been blessed with rare-to-no nausea, so I`m not puking, and my vitamins only make me sick when I don`t eat it with food. This is COMPLETELY abnormal for me as I am a huge foodie, and even pre-pregnancy, I would have to eat every 3 hours and maintained that until maybe a week ago now. Had anyone else experienced this? Is it safe to maybe drink shakes like Ensure to make sure I get the nutrients I need seeing how I have to force feed myself?

I lost my appetite as well until about 13-14 weeks in my pregnancy then I was able to eat. I practically lived on prego pops, crackers and cranberry juice during and lost like 10 lbs, but gained that plus 10 more before I had the baby (so 20 total). Not to worry so much.

perfectly normal..i also lost my appetite in the beginning but when i got about 16 weeks i went bananas..my appetite came back and now at 28 weeks..OMG i just never get full ..i have cravings galore.

I went through this exact same stage around this time! I think it lasted until I got to around the 12th week and then my appetite came back so don't worry more than likely it's just one of those phases of pregnancy.

Same thing happened to me! Everything I used to love I all of a sudden hated! Nothing sounded good and things I liked even smelled so bad! I never threw up but was constantly nauseas. I used to eat like a pig pre-preggers too! Don't worry, your appetite will be back very soon! One day I woke up and felt great and really hungry! Now I eat everything in sight...you will notice tho you eat smaller portions but more times a day!

I went through the same exact thing at 9 weeks preg. Dont worry at all. It is your body adjusting to the new hormones being produced. At this point the baby is still attaching itself to your body, so lack of food will not hurt the baby, but it may make you feel weak. If so, try drinking milk if you like it since it is high in fat and filling. Hope this helps!

Drinking a nutrient supplement while your having your stomach issues is better than not eating at all. I had severe nausea and it was hard for me to keep anything down until week 12 even on the days when I was feeling ravenous. At this point in pregnancy I wouldn't take to worrying about weight lost or gained. Express your concern to your dr yes for peace of mind- but I wouldn't stress about it too much. I'm in week 23 and my weight has yo-yoed 5-7 lbs depending on how much water/food I took in. Rest easy, your nerves and hormones may be getting the best of you right now. :)

Ensure is a good way to get the nutrients you need. Don't worry your appetite will definitely increase down the road. =)

Drinking Ensure shakes are a great idea. Womens' bodies go through crazy changes when they are pregnant and no 2 womens bodies react the same.

I am at the 17 week mark and I was there where you are. Except I was throwing up all the time. I lost the 3 lbs that I did gain and the dr said that was normal. Then it got to the point that nothing sounded good. I would order something and once it was in front of me I looked at and thought this isn't what I wanted. Then after a while of this I got my appetite back and now I'am eating all the time. So just hang in there and snack on little things...animal crackers, fruit, little veggies, and etc.

dont force your self to eat. eat when your hungry. your appetite will start to pick up dont worry

Thank you soooo much to all the ladies who responded! I really do appreciate feeling comforted by your stories and suggestions. I will definitely continue to just snack when I can even if it's not a full meal in one sitting. I have also decided against the shakes for now only because after reading the ingredients, I feel more comfortable just snacking on fruit and taking my vitamins.

Eat when you are hungry and dont worry too much. I lost 5 pounds my first trimester because I wasnt that into food either. In fact I really didnt have much of an appetite until about 28 weeks or so. Dont worry about the baby, because the baby will take what he needs and grow reguardless. That being said, the less you eat, the more careful you should be about what you eat. Take your prenatal vitamins, and try a different kind if yours make you sick, because not all of them will. Shakes are ok, but watch them because some times they will have a ton of caffine and not even mention it.
What I ended up doing, was just munching on food when I felt like it ( I couldnt do a big meal for the life of me) and drank a lot of water, took my vitamins, and so far the baby is doing great and I gained the weight later in my pregnancy. Just listen to your body and your doctor!

This sounds exactly like what I experienced. I just didn't have an appetite at all. It got so bad that my hubby was actually staying mad at me, as he thought I was being really unhealthy. I literally force fed myself, I didn't want anything at all. I felt full all the time. It was worse for me later in the day. I am now in week 13 and my appetite has returned in full force. I found that eating tums before meals helped some. I still contiue to do that at times, it really helps with gas. I think this is pretty normal, just hang in there and your appetite will come back, promise. Good luck!

I'm 10 weeks and I am going thru the same thing! I cant eat normal sized meals and when i do eat i feel like i've ate too much, which isnt the case at all. My advice is to just eat small snacks often. try not to feel hungry make sure you drink lots of water when you cant eat.

Pre-pregnancy I ate ALL the time.. but in the first couple months of pregnancy I hardly ate at all. I lost a total of 7 pounds in my first trimester because of it. The doctor says it is normal though.. just try to do whatever you can to eat.. even if it is just small snacks throughout the day.

Hi there,, I myself am at 8-9 weeks have had little to no morning sickness and am losing my appetite which is unlike me,, but i think its got to do with what Debra said,, ill eat a few crackers and feal full. so im just eating real small amounts through out the day, and making sure i eat plently of fruit..

When i was at 8 weeks, i got fully really fast and had little appetite. I too had little nausea. I didn't loose weight though. I gained slowly, some weeks gaining nothing in the beginning. I would just try to eat something every few hours, making sure that its got good nutrition- fruit, cheese, some protein like chicken or pasta. Drink water if nothing else or gaterade. I gained 31 lbs total during my pregnancy and when i hit 12 weeks, i started eating more and had lots of cravings- especially for fruit.

well for me my pregnancy i lost befor i gained an the docs say it's ok now with this one i have only gained 3 pounds an i am now at 32 weeks an they say i should of gained at least 25-30 pounds but they say it's ok so don't worry you will gain maybe you will gain all at once..but some women are different...but good luck
