I am 5 months pregnant and i have the habit of crossing my legs. Will this affect my baby or is it ok? Someone told me that i shouldn`t cross them but i havent heard anymore on that matter.

I, too, have this habit, and it is only an old wives tale that crossing your legs will cause harm to your baby. However, it is not good for circulation, but still I do it, it is a hard habit to break!

I learned the hard way my lady... its not bad for your baby but for the circulation of blood in your legs. My Dr warned me as I cross my legs all the time and they were always falling aleep on me. I ended up with a lot of really bad looking bericose veins but once I gave birth they went away. I was lucky though sometimes they don't go away! good luck!

The only thing I've heard about this is that it can make for poor circulation and increase your odds of getting varicose veins in your legs. As far as hurting your baby, no worries there it does not have any negative affects on the baby.

It has no effect on the baby at all. The reason you should not cross your legs is due to cutting off circulation. As your pregnancy progresses, your legs and ankles will become more swollen, thus causing spider veins to come about when you cross your legs and cut off your own circulation. If you feel fine doing it, and not like your cutting off your blood flow, I wouldnt worry at all =)

it can cause spider veins, that would really be the only concern, other than that it shouldnt hurt the baby at all :).

It's fine to cross your legs. I have a habbit of that too. Towards the end of my pregnancy I always tried to do it out of habbit and I couldn't. It was so frustrating.

Crossing your legs while pregnat is at most uncomfortable once you get bigger and won't hurt your baby. However, if you have poor circulation, then it can cause spider vains and down the track ceulite. As you get bigger, you will probably stop sitting like that anywayLOL. :-)

I believe crossing your legs in general, pregnant or not, isn't healthy due to the blood restriction. Whether it impacts the baby more during pregnancy, I'm not sure... but as LMO stated, with the swelling in the legs you may be more prone to in this state, I'm sure it doesn't help.

Crossing your legs can restrict your blood flow and also cause you to swell. It will not cause harm to your baby.

I just went to the doctors yesterday and he said just don't cross your legs on a plane. I plan to go on and he said the air pressure in the plane would cause blood clots if you cross your legs.

I've read that it doesn't hurt the baby but can cause varicose veins and can increase swelling in your feet and ankles.

The crossing of your legs interferes with your regular blood flow and can cause clots or vericose veins in some women/even men for that matter. The fact that our blood volume increases when we are pregnant makes it even easier for such to happen. I read that in my what to expect and my dr agrees to that as well.

hey, it won't hurt your baby to cross your legs, but you want to be able to keep good circulation throughout your legs. That is why you should not cross them too often. Could cause unnecessary swelling. But don't worry, soon your belly will be too big to cross your legs anyways =)

It doesn't affect the baby, the reason you are told not to cross them is because it slows down the circulation in your legs putting you at risk of a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) ie clot in your leg. Pregnancy puts you at higher risk to start with so try to avoid crossing them and make sure you flex your feet and ankles regular to encourage the circulation. It may also cause more swelling in your feet because it slows the movement of fluid to and from your feet.

I have never heard that it will harm you or the baby. It might cause some extra swelling. If you notice that you are swelling after sitting with your legs crossed, try to avoid it. You might also notice that your feet and legs dont get as good of circulation with your legs crossed. Otherwise, I think crossing your legs is perfectly safe!!
