Ok so i know i asked about when this baby might come and maybe that was the wrong thing to ask since i know that cannot be determined, but what i am really wondering is what is it meaning that my cervix is very soft and anything could put me in labor. I had many problems with my son and spent three days on mag and had him a week later, now this one i have had three shots, i am on strict bedrest drinking pleanty of water, and i think i am due to get steriods tomorrow along with getting a ffn to know if he will arrive in the next 2weeks. I am just scared 34 weeks was hard enough so only being 29wks really freaks me out. Just wondering if being dilated 2 and having a really soft cervix can mean that i will also deliver this baby pre-term? Any help would be great thanks.

From what you have said I would say it sounds like baby is coming before 40 weeks. I would just be very careful and follow your doctor's advice exactly. Stay off your feet and drink a TON of water.

being only 29 wks and being 2cm already along with a softening cervix, things seem to point in that direction. STAY off your feet. listen to your doc. If the baby does come soon, know that they are doing amazing things for preemies. Good luck :) and i hope your little one stays in a while longer

well for starters follow all dr orders and secondly you have to minimize your stress. pls know that whatever is happening to your body/mind is effecting your child. i went into preterm with all my babies and they ended up being fine. your body is an amazing machine.

I was always thinking that when the cervix was soft it meant that the dilation is near.. However your doctor can help, with ordering you to bed rest, and you can try this..
My cervix is so hi and soft too, but I am right at 34 weeks, my daughter was a 34 weeker who weighted 5lbs 14oz and she came home with no problems, so I am jaded!! Thanks for reminding me that boys and girls are different!!

At 29 weeks, should you go into preterm labor odds are that your baby has a wonderful chance at survival. My high risk physicians are hoping that I get that far as a bare minimum-I have read that this day and age babies born as early as 24-weeks have a much lower mortality rate than they did just 5 years ago. The extra worry about your cervix being soft right now, just isn't something that you should be troubling yourself. The power of positive thinking can overcome many things. I have an ic, cerclage and take weekly progesterone shots-limited activity and well you're where I hope to get to with this pregnancy! :) I wish you well, and try not to worry yourself so much. Have faith in your dr's but be prepared to speak out for yourself at anytime you "just don't feel right" Be the best advocate for yourself and never stop asking questions!

do everything that your doctor is saying dont over due yourself..it could mean that you will go into preterm labor but also you can go longer. when the cervix softens is when you are usually about to get ready to have the baby

With my first I was dilated to 1 cm starting at 27 weeks, then it progressed to 2 and 3 and I was 4 cm by 30 weeks. I stayed in the hospital for a week with mag drip, terbutaline shots, betamethasone shots for the baby's lung development and a strict meal/hydration routine. I was sent home after the test came back negative for delivering within 2 weeks. However, I was still placed on strict bed rest, terbutaline pills and a strict meal/hydration plan at home. I could not lift anything, do housework or leave the couch for more than a 10 minute shower, which had to be monitored by my husband. It was a very hard time, but I listened carefully to what the doctor said and made it to 37 weeks with a perfectly healthy little boy! Just try to relax (I know its hard) and remember to listen to what your doctor says. Perhaps you can get someone to come over and help with your other child. Alos, I know its hard to think of your child being born early, but it helped me to visit the NICU at our delivering hospital and see the baby's that were born around 27-30 weeks. Their chances of survival is good and that gave me better hope. I wish you the best and know how hard it can be. (((HUGS)))

I hope your little one will stay in there as long as possible, if you are taking your meds and on strict bedrest and your doctor is monitoring you, I think you have a great chance of getting a little closer to that due date the doctor would like.

it's a chance you might. But if they take the right steps they may get you to make it to 32-35weeks.-even 38-39w

Sorry that you had a difficult time with the last pregnancy, and that this one is having complications. You could definately go into labour early with this one. If your cervix is soft, then the doc likely told you not to lift anything more than 5 lbs, right? I would definately follow this. I am pretty much in the same situation.
I went to the hospital last Thursday night (21 weeks by dates, but 19 by baby's size) with spotting and cramping. The baby is ok, and my cervix is closed. The US monitor revealed that my cervix is only 3 cm thick, which is on the low side, but still ok. If you are getting bed rest, and drinking lots, and not lifting much or standing much, then I think you should do ok. Every week that passes makes you and the baby stronger. I would try not to stress, bc it will not help.
I was was focused on all the bad stuff a month ago and I started getting really depressed. (not eating, no appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, lost 31 lbs, no sleeping well, in an apartment that filled with smoke from the neighbours downstairs, alone, no energy, you name it, and I was living it. it was aweful!) Once I stopped focusing on what I couldn't fix, then I started to fix small things as I was able. I got one or two very small tasks done a day. before you know it I felt much, much happier.
I would try (easier said than done) to focus on what I can do each day to feel good. The weeks will pass and pretty soon you will be at your due date.
When do you see the doc next?
hope this helps, E-C-L
