My baby is breastfeed only. How much should she poop a day? My MIL told me she could go a few days w/o having a dirty diper. Is this true??

totallykatalicious - 83 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I forget, but they usually tell you that it has to be so many times within 24 hours...and it various when they get older and fed more or less and sleeping thru the night, etc.

jah-baby - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) no thats not true..breastfed babys are suppose to poop several times a day..girl MIL is bugging out...lol

slnkl - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i breastfeed too, my baby poops atleast 5 to 6 times a day! it almost seems like everytime i feed her she poops! i was told the size of a quarter counts as a poppy! my daughter seems to shart a lot too (you know, fart with poop) LOL :)

Baby3OnWay - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) this is true although most breastfed babies are said to not be constipated like bottle fed my daughter ould go days at times. regular breastfed are said to go sometimes after every feeding too... Just talk to your Dr is your concerned about constipation though, I had to give ny daughter a sepository after 4 days when she was only a month old, yucky but glad to see her go! good luck!

mommybee - 88 days ago Good news..She pooped yesterday night! Thank you!!

mommy-at-home - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is true that breastfed babies can have days when they don't poop. You can tell if she's constipated by how hard/soft the poop is. Basically your baby's body will create it's own schedule. I wouldn't worry unless her bowel habits suddenly change and she seems uncomfortable. And even then it may just be something you ate that is not settling too well in her tummy.

ryanzbabi - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It all depends on your baby. You should ask your doctor for more information about this :)

candace3 - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My breast fed baby pooped 2-3 times a day. As long as she is wetting at least 6-8 times a day...that is good.

mzmommy2b - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My baby is formula fed and poops on schedule every 2 days LOL. The Dr said this is normal. From what I understand, breastfed babies poop more often, and often have softer stools. A baby should not poop more then 12 times a day though no matter how they are fed from what I read.

mattie4 - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) babies poop less often when breastfed b/c there is less waste. I b/f all three of mine and plan on doing it again, and it was true for me. :)

Zenzabar - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My breastfed baby once went a week without pooing. It's normal, but trust me once she does go there will be no diaper big enough to handle it! Lol!

vikki - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Well mine were all B/F and they had one every day sometimes a couple but as long as they are have several wet ones every day and a dirty one at LEAST every two days, the baby should be just fine:-)

MelissaJoanne - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) That is true. Breastmilk is so perfectly designed that it produces very little waste. Your baby uses almost everything that breastmilk provides.

Darianna - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi: Is she wetting her diapers? If so then great, she is getting a great supply of water from the milk!! The rule is two to three good poopie diapers a week, or more, or less, depends on what you are eating to give to the baby!! I say to try this site, http://www.llli.org//leaderinfo.html Also you should know that it is true that breastmilk is the best for the baby and thus not as much a formula feed baby, my daughter was a breastfeed baby and she only poop a few times a week and less smelly by the way!! Good Luck!!

kater - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) because breast milk to perfectly designed for baby's, it is extremely well digested, so often baby's do a few days without pooping. what the mother eats can also have an effect on how often a baby poos too, for instance chocolate has a reputation for causing runny poop, and some baby's have the same reaction to orange juice if baby is having plenty of wet nappies per day, roughly one wet nappy for every feed, ad baby seems comfortable, i wouldn't worry

CourtneyR26 - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Breast feed babys should be haveing a bowl movement everyday. Formula fed babies can go up to several days without having a bowl movement.

michaela - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My baby is breast fed and at 9-10 weeks she would always have at least one dirty nappy a day, most times it would be 2 or 3 a day. Breast fed babies are generally looser and what you save by not buying milk you spend on more nappies. My little girl became constipated at one point at 8 weks of age, she didn't go for over 48 hours and was really uncomfortable, so the dr prescribed laxatives, but mostly she was loose. Always remember that what you eat may effect how regular she is, if my little one hadn't gone for 24 hours i would normally eat 5-6 dried apricots and about 3 hours later she would go. Hope this helps. xx

Carmione - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It most certainly is true, but Dr's say that if it 2-3 days and your baby seems uncomfortable then it should be addressed. Babies can have bm's as often as they feed, and the amount can vary. Now if baby doesn't have wet diapers, then that's something completely different and should be tended to right away.

Mommyof2boys - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) She should be pooping a few times a day, its normal for our bodies to have a bowel movement after we eat.

christen - 91 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I AGREE WITH TAMARALEIGH....YOUR BABY SHOULD HAVE A BOWEL MOVEMENT....AND MOST BREASTFEED BABIES DONT GET CONSTIPATED

LMO - 91 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes that is so true they can go days and it wont hurt them. the baby will start going more regularly once it starts getting more solid food.

tamaraleigh - 91 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I believe your child should be having a bowel movement everyday. Going without one for several days would seem to me like they are constipated.

kayleighrobo - 91 days ago Rating: 5 (2 votes) with my third i was worried sick i ended up ringing the hospital to double check i told my health visiter lilly hadnt pood in 6 days she said that was normal but i got that concerned i rang and spoke to a midwife she said because the breastmilk is designed for the baby the milk is absorbed as long as the babys having wet nappies everything is ok if the baby was on powdered milk the baby would b pooing daily or get a bit constipated so the baby would need sips of water every now and then x

ttasha - 91 days ago Rating: 3 (1 votes) i agree babies should be soiling there nappies everyday

Laura Ward - 91 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) All babies are different, but on average she should be pooping several times a day in the early months. Many breastfed babies will poop after each feeding. It should be mustard in color and appear to have seeds in it. As her system matures, the pooping will decrease and a poop 1-3 times a day would be normal. However, my son went for 4 days without pooping when he was very little and I was concerned. I called his pediatrician and he said that as long as the baby was not in distress or acting constipated (bringing legs to chest or strainign to poop with no results), then he was fine and it was normal for them to go for a couple days sometimes.
