What are the advantages of using a full-size stroller over a small umbrella stroller (besides the basket)?I`m trying to decide what kind of stroller to register for... I like the idea of something lightweight like a frame for the carseat, and then graduating to an umbrella stroller, but I`m afraid I might be missing out on something!

I would recommend a full-size stroller, they are good for newborns and older children as well. There is also the convenience of being able to store everything you need to take along in the back of the stroller for the baby i.e. diapers, bottles, clothes, etc. I know I will be getting one of these again they're great whether your just going for a walk around the neighborhood or your taking a trip to the mall or the zoo, very handy!

The larger ones are best with a young baby as they provide better support for your baby, they can move into positions to gear towards your child. The umbrellas i find are so much harder to push as well, and are geared more for a child who can sit up on their own. Hold off on the light weight umbrella till your baby is older and sturdy on his/her own!! hope this helps

If someone else buys it then let them get the nicer one but if not the cheaper small umbrella ones work just fine. If you will be using it a lot than the bigger one might be better. I never hardly used mine and the bigger one got in the way. So I just got the other kind and it served the purpose.

I highly reccomend the snap and go stroller. Where you snap in the infant car seat to the stroller. It is very easy to transport, light weight, and compact. It is easy to put up and take down. It is also skinny enough to get through isles and crowds. I had very little space to store a stroller so it worked perfectly for me. They make them where a sibling can ride standing up in the back which is also a plus side to me. I never had to worry about waking the baby, i could just take them from the car (sleeping) and snap it in. When my baby grew out of it, that was ok b/c it was time for an umbrella stroller, which again b/c it is lighter and easier to transport is what i prefer. I dont like the cheap unbrella strollers though b/c they are too short and i am a tall person so i have to reach down to push...very annoying so i usually will spend a little more on the umbrella, but you can after not spending so much on the snap and go. I hope this helps

Umbrella strollers have no support for the kid, and regular strollers do, That is the main difference!! SO keep that in mind, also go to this site for reviews:

Hope this helps!!

I prefer a full size stroller due to the fact that their neck muscles are very underdeveloped. In an umbrella stroller there is no neck support or way to hold their head up. Also .if the baby is very young there is no way to lay them back for sleepy time in an umbrella stroller. Good luck deciding

I only have a travel system at the minute, but am planning on buying a simple umbrella stroller soon as they are much easier to negotiate on and off public transport and for travelling etc. The full size is great when they are very small as it offers lots of padding and support for babies head and back, also protects them from the elements better. Personally, because i had a winter baby i have fouund the full size invaluable, yes it's a bit of a pain to get in and out of the car, but it's so much more comfy looking. I do worry about baggage handlers at airports breaking my pram so will use a cheap umbrella stroller when i fly.

i started with a big one then went to unbrella. at first it is better for their head. they dont have the strength in their neck to be in an unbrella. but it sucks to lug those things in and out of the car

I had the umbrella stroller and the big stroller, the only thing with the umbrella is when the baby is so little you have to hold it back because he/she can't support his neck yet and the umbrella strollers are so upright, the best thing about the full size is they recline, I think you can find some umbrellas recline also if you can find one of them go with that because they are much lighter than the full size.

I am thinking almost the same thing as you are. The umbrella strollers are nice, and light- but when it really comes down to needing the carrying space to take the pressure off your back of the diaper bag or a place to put your water bottle the full sized strollers are a better companion. An umbrella stroller would be a better fit for a short trip where not much was needed and the terrain wasn't too rough or graveled. Umbrella strollers tend to have wheels that aren't so forgiving and instead of giving you what they need, they just break off! Anyways- I think I'll wait to get the umbrella stroller for Nya when she's ready to play with baby dolls :)

When babies are little and still in their carriers you want to make sure that you have a stroller you can use with your carrier. I personally like the expensive umbrella strollers. They are much lighter which makes it easy to put in and take out of your car. I like the ones that have the option to recline all the way back which is good if your baby is still very small or you will be using it alot. We took ours on a cruise when my son was 9 months old when we put it in the full recline position he would fall right asleep. Mine is the Esprit Sun Speed which is cheaper than the MaClaren which I have heard is great but even more expensive. Remember lightweight and full recline.

We got a travel system as well. My reason for that, other than economics, was that they seem more secure and stable than the umbrella style ones. Personally, I think that I will most definitely graduate to a smaller type stroller when the baby is much older, but until she can hold herself up and control/coordinate her movements extremely effectively, I feel safer with her in a bulky stroller.

I am personally going to be buying a Bugaboo Bee which is like a half breed between a full and umbrella stroller because it has full stroller features with umbrella weight and ease. We have been researching them quite a bit, and also from my experience helping to raise much younger siblings, I can't stand bulky strollers! The reason for picking the Bee is that is the smallest folding stroller, extremely light, and is has a carseat adapter for infants. It also fully reclines and comes with padded accessories to support an infant even better. We also travel lots and are on-the-go people, so something lighter is more beneficial to us. The price point is a bit higher, but we are willing to pay for the features. Also, some mom's really like to use their strollers for "storage on the move", like when grocery shopping or at the mall they can hang all their stuff off of it, so that is a personal choice as well. So don't forget those kinds of features as well: what you will use it for in addition to pushing your baby, and where you will use it. Good luck!!

I like having a larger stroller personally because when you go place you can put the diaper bag in the bottom or shopping bags vs a umbrella stroller you cant

We are getting a travel system. Logically and financially it makes the most sense. I priced it out and its actually cheaper to get a travel system then to buy the car seat and the stroller separately. You need to test them out though before you chose one to register for. I have found some to be awkward; especially when it comes to folding them up. Also, test out the wheels. I have heard lots of complaints from various friends who already have kids that they hated their strollers because they have to really struggle to push their on anything other than cement. Good luck hunting :-)

For a newborn, the travel system is so convenient and easy to use. Just simply take the baby's carseat off of the base from the car and attach to the stroller. You dont have to wake baby and you can close the stroller cover and car seat cover to keep nosey strangers out!! Not all travel systems are big and bulky, either. Combi makes some great, lightweight travel system strollers. We had a Graco and it was lightweight and had great ratings, too. Also, most full size strollers will recline and in my opinion, are safer for smaller babies that do not have good control yet.
