man o man...when will this child learn to use the potty! he knows when he is wet...he tells me if he pooped...when will the potty stop being a novelty and he actually sit on it! whenever i have to go i say,`oh oh I gotta go potty!` and I run to potty and he runs after me and he watches the whole thing go down, like it is a game...but he won`t do it! oh bother, what should i do.

they have these round floaty things that you put in the potty and let your little guy try and "shot" i couldn't find theme so i used a few fruit loops in the potty my son love it and it really worked well

My oldest son was fully trained at 3 1/2. We are currently potty training our middle son and he is 2.4 yrs old... he lets us know when he pooped and wants to *pee potty* ... we have made it into a game for them so it's easier and they aren't afraid of it.

I had mine wear big boy underwear with his favorite character on it and he got in trouble when he didn't go to the bathroom. I know some say don't do that but it worked just fine for me and he has been completely trained since he turned 2. I hear some moms say that their child is trained but they still have to wear diapers to bed or for long trips. When we were done we were done. It only took a couple of weeks. He would wear diapers at night but he knew as soon as he woke up, we went straight to the bathroom and about every 2 hours we went. It just takes a very dedicated routine.

I potty trained 2 boys. They were not ready until they were 3. I only use pull ups at night, I put them in underwear. If they pee pee in the potty I would sing & dance & make a BIG deal, then give them 4 m&ms from their special candy jar that was only potty candy. If they poop in the potty, which I would put toilet paper in first so they wouldn't freak out if the water was to splash, I would sing & dance & they got a handful of m&ms. I trained on a real toilet with a potty ring for small children. I was told if you use the kiddie potty you have to retrain on a real potty. Oh and I bought a stool so they could stand over the toilet or reach to sit down.

How old is your child? I potty trained my by not using pull-ups they don't work. I put my son in underware and if he pees he can feel it run down his leg. He didn't like it so he wnated to use the bathroom. I also made him a sticker chart and when he use or tried to use that bathroom I would give him a sticker. He love that and in about 3 weeks he was peeing and a month later he was pooping. I hope this helps.

boys are suppose to be harder to potty train (or so i have heard, i only have boys so i cant compare really). My first was really really hard, he is autistic and it really presented a problem. One of things i did that really worked was to take him outside and let him pee on the side of a tree or other things, He wasnt into the Potty, b/c it scared him. And a little potty, well that didnt go over either. So i let him learn with mother nature...lol. I trained my middle son with using cheerios in the potty for him to sink with his pee. This worked. I am now working on my 3rd son he is 2 and well...fun...hahaha. Good luck though

TRY USING CHEERIOS OR FRUIT LOOPS AND LET HIM AIM AT THEM WHEN HE PEES

i kept a jar of candy out of reach but within eye sight so that when my boys even thought about peeing they knew what they were going to get - but my boys were much harder to train than my daughter.

Oooh, I hear that boys are stubborn with this (and with many things, I suppose). Don't pressure him, but do set up a reward system if he successfully uses it.

Bribe him!! I used Thomas Toys for my daughter, it worked great.. I say to feed the potty and she is 5!! I say pee is a drink and poo is the potty's food!! I suggest that he think about it like that, and this came from a mom of 5 boys!! SO it works, and then praise his like crazy the first time, also try the seat that fits the big potty seat that we use, you can get one at walmart or target!! I have Dora and you may want to get Bob the Builder!! They help out a lot!!

there is a wonderful book out there called POTTY TRAINING IN A DAY. Its written by a world renowned man named Dr Richard Foxx. I have actually met him and he is phenominally knowledgable (as well as kind and gentle). I have also used his techniques in training two different young boys who have autism....IT WORKS! BTW I just read the answer above mine...and I totally don't agree. I have a bachelors degree in developmental psychology and your son is clearly communicating that he is ready to be trained. Remember, boys are typically harder to train than girls...they are usually much more stubborn about it.

This might sound bad but my mother in law potty trained two of her grandsons with "poop candy" if they would poo or pee they would get to pick out a piece of candy or a sticker. The biggest thing is to offer them every other hour do they need to go pee or poo. and try to be consistent. Good luck!!

I found that with my son, the more pressure I put on him- the more he wanted to avoid going. It took his grandfather to seriously take a hold of things and guide him. I give kudos to the women that are able to potty train their little boys by themselves- I was at a loss!

When they say that kids will do it when they are ready, I have found that to be the case. For the most part. I was a preschool teacher, and it does take a lot of encouraging, patience, persistence and rewards. My first son (now 3) was pottying at 16 months and was completely trained by the time he was 2 years old. Be consistent. Take him to the store and let him pick out underwear. Do not use diapers or pull ups anymore. It only gives him a reason to not use the potty and will confuse him. It might not happen overnight, but it will happen!! Best wishes.

If you have the time take a week off of work and basically tell him that diapers are for babies and he is a big boy now. Totally get rid of the diaper and only use big boy underwear. Eventually he will get tired of having accidents all over himself and use the potty. (I would keep pull ups on him at night though)
