?My week old baby has `eye boogers` his eye gets crusty if I don`t wipe it. Should I keep wiping it or will that irratate it more? I am calling the doctor tomorrow but I am worried now, Are Eye infections normal for newborns?

carsynsmummy - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) you should wipe it with cooled boiled water, from the inside out. my little boy has an eye infection and has had it since birth ( he is now 9 weeks) i fond that if i dont wipe it then it get worse.

jah-baby - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i thought the babys eyes do that becuz of something that the doctor puts in it when first born

candace3 - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My last one had that...plugged tear ducts. Keep cleaning them with a warm compress. It will go away on its own. Goodluck!!

Brandi J. - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If you are breastfeeding, put a few drops of milk in his eye at each feeding until it clears! This works wonderfully! Good luck to you!

chasesmommy08 - 90 days ago I want to say thanks for all of the advice, wow so many of you are willing to help, its great to know if I have any questions I know I can depend on this website, Thanks!

mattie4 - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes keep wiping them. I would call the dr. just to be on the safe side. Babies can get pink eye without the eye being pink. One of the signs is crusty eyes. good luck :)

Zenzabar - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think it's allergies. My baby got the same thing when she was a newborn. They have been in the womb so long, protected from everything and then they are thrown into a world full of allergens.

christen - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) MORE LESS THAT COULD JUST BE ALLERGIES, BUT THE EYES THAT CRUST SHUT AND ARE REDDISH PINK....THAT COULD BE PINK EYE.....I WOULD TAKE HIM TO THE DR JUST IN CASE

2nd1ontheway - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Your baby may not have an eye infection it may be his tear duct, it could be clogged or it could just be working over time. I would wipe the eye crusties away so that they don't get into his eye and scratch the cornea.

Carmione - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would keep wiping away any crumblies as I call them with a baby wipe or very soft wash cloth. The hardened fluid can cause more damage hanging around if it were to scratch the baby's cornea. If the discharge turns greenish, then bring it up to a dr. At first a baby's ability to lubricate their eyes isn't all the way functional- I think that it may take up to a month or so for the tear ducts to actually start producing tears. Hope this helped.

michaela - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Wipe the eyes with boiled water and cotton wool 2-3 times a day. If they are green and stopping your baby from being able to open his eyes then you should definitely check it out with you dr. xx

kater - 90 days ago Rating: 4.5 (2 votes) blocked or underdeveloped tear ducts are very common in newborns, they arnt dangerous in themselves, but can be prone to infection. wipe each eye separately from inner to outer corner to avoid spreading any germs, and you can gently massage the inner corners of baby's eye with a clean pinky finger, taking care not to scratch baby's eye. this can help unblock the duct. see your doctor if it doesn't clear up in a 2-3 weeks, or if the colour changes from clear/light yellow discharge

Darianna - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Just wipe his eyes and keep them clean, also great for calling the doctor, there is a eye drop to help him out!! Just wait till tomorrow!! ANd you may need to bring him in!! If it is not green then be happy!!

sarahann - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Make sure when you wipe his eyes to use a clean cloth for each eye to avoid spreading any infection from one eye to the other, and wipe from nose outwards. Use cooled boiled water or a little saline. As with anything you have concerns about, check it with you doctor.

Laura Ward - 90 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Because newborns have underdeveloped tear ducts, it is completely normal. Just wipe his eyes out genrly from the nose outwards to prevent spreading the bacteria. Also, it is common for them to have clogged tear ducts at this age. Massage the tear duct- the inner area of their eye (by the nose) to help stimulate it.

Mommyof2boys - 90 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Its normal for newborns to have little eye boogers and they run a little bit all the new things his eyes are adjusting to. I always took a warm soft cloth and dabbed around my sons eyes when he would get them. If he's real fussy and his eyes have like a green discharge and his eyes are red I would call the doctor it could be an infection.
