At 38 week appointment dr says I am 1cm dialated and 30%effaced. So will the more effaced I get determine how much more I will dialate? When I am 100% effaced will the dialation process begin to speed up?

Yes, it does go hand in hand, but most women efface quicker than they dialate, and getting to 100% effacement will alot of times speeds up the dialation! Congratulations to you!

it could mean that your body is steadily readying itself on its own schedule..thats great as being induced can be traumatic for your body. dilation and effacement accompany each other. if your body is readying itself it could happen at any time. good luck

they go hand in hand. basically you have to be 100% effaced to have the baby, and I've heard of some women having their kids and not being dialated to 10 just to 8-9.

You could still have awhile only being 1cm and 30%. I was 9cm and still not 100% yet so it just depends on your body and how things are working together. Now with my daughter i was 100% and only 2cm but i had her within 4 hours. SO do not worry when he/she is ready your body will start to progress faster. Good luck and congratulations.

Every woman and labor is different. Dilation and effacement work together to get your cervix ready for the birth of the baby. Usually, the softer your cervix is, the easier it is for the cervix dilate. I was 100% effaced and only 5 cm dilated with my last when I went in to the induced. WIth my first, I was 4 cm dilated and only 80% effaced. Dilation is usually pretty slow until 4-5 cm and then it will pick up from there (usually!) You are almost there! Hang in there!!

when you are dialating that is the cervix opening. When there is efacement that is the cervix thinning and getting ready. You can be 100 % effaced and still not fully dialated, but yes...if you are 100& you are more than likely ready to deliver, the thinner it is, the more likely you are dialated. doesnt sound like it will be too much longer :). good luck :)

It's different for everyone. There can be any version of dialtion and effacement. It seems a bit unlikely for you to be 100% effaced and then begin to dialate more. I think they both move along a bit together. For me, 100% effacement came around at 10 centimeters dialation.

I have read that dilation can happen prior to effacement, or vice versa in some women. This proces isn't cookie cutter for every woman but I would rest assured that you're on your way to having a baby soon. There isn't a timeclock for this, I wish there was though! :)
