Does getting your water broke by the doctor hurt and how do they do it?

lindamc - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) they stick a needle type hook up into you and pop it that way.. doesn't hurt, but it's definitely an odd feeling!

totallykatalicious - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) They stick their hand up your you know what to try and break it.

jah-baby - 103 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) i dont think it hurt..just a little uncomfortable and they insert something like a hook to pop the water bag

wildberry - 103 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) i wouldn't say hurt it's uncomftorable they use a tool that kinda looks like a crochet hook

slnkl - 105 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) no it does not hurt! i thought it would hurt, but the docs had to break my water. you'll feel warmth down there and you'll know your water broke. i heard that if you're induced, labor hurts a lot more than your water breaking on its own. good luck!

Baby3OnWay - 105 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) No it does not hurt.. thats how I was induced in November of 08... they use what looks like a croche hook and they pop it like a balloon. haha it feel neat actually!! Good Luck! I had my son winthin 53 mins!!

gabriela1 - 105 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) no not at all, they do it with a a plastic stick that has a liltte hook at the end of it. When they do pop your water bag it feels really warm

mommy-of-3 - 106 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) No it doesn't hurt at all, I've had it done with both of my kids. They take a device that has a hook on the end of it and it basically pops your bag of waters. It is the weirdest feeling ever let me tell you! All of the sudden you just feel this tremendous gush of warm water pouring out of you. It is only after the water has broke that your contractions tend to intensify and that is what hurts, but not breaking the water itself.Hope this helps! :)

Darianna - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I have heard that the doctor does this: There is a long stick with a hook on the end and they slip it in to the vaginal area and clip the end of the bag.. I see from TV that is cramps some what, and it is a strange feeling!! Then you will feel the water go out!! Good Luck!!

mzmommy2b - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) from what i have heard (and seen on a baby story LOL) it is painless, however, in my opinion, once you are full term, cervical exams of any kind are painful regardless. They just take a glove with a little point on the tip of the pointer finger and pop it like a balloon! Goodluck!

Carmione - 106 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) I haven't had my water broken for me, but witnessed my best friend having hers done. They used the small smooth crochet like hook and it was fast and painless. I did make sure I asked if it causes any pain, out of curiosity- Dr said because there aren't any nerve endings in the sac, it's painless-it's like feeling a balloon burst slowly and softly in your hands without you sqeezing it. That laid my mind to rest.

mizzsnazzy - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Mine hurt but only because I think they had a lot of trouble finding the sac. Not sure why, but it hurt really bad. Not as bad as labor pains though.

liddlexprego - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) It doesn't hurt at all. They take a plastic stick type thing and pop it like a balloon. When you feel the gush of water come out it gets very uncomfortable.

LMO - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) its like a balloon popping it doesnt hurt too bad you just feel uncomfortable for a sec

ttasha - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) well i had to get induced because i was 12 days over due and to be honest it dont hurt its just feels a little uncomfortable thats because the silly midwife who tried ti break mine was finding it difficult to tear the sac

kayleighrobo - 106 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) you dont feel a thing i have had it done twice to quicken up my labour its a dead thin plastic with a tiny hook thing at the top when they did it i was getting hard strong contractions every couple of minutes i would rather that then having a slow prolonged labour dont worry about it hun u'll b fine x

candace3 - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I had my water broke with my last 2. It didn't hurt at all. The contractions afterwards hurt like hell.

2ndxmommy!! - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) it does not hurt it is this long hard plastic hook things they break your water with!! but you will be fine!!

captshelley - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) My midwife was checking my dialtion and accidently said she broke my water. Didn't hurt...didn't even feel it.

vikki - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) NO it doesn't hurt! The worst of it is that the fingers of the Doc' or midwife may be uncomfortable. They use what looks like a long small ended crochete needle. They place the hook against the membrane and pull alittle "snag" into the membrane. Then there is a rush of fluid. Instinct wants to stop the waterflow LOL. But of cause THATS not going to happen:-) My waters when broken just flooded everywhere, like a wave!LOL Baby comes pretty quickly after that. Well with me anyway:-)

smithc78 - 107 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) Well, I had to have my water broken with my first prego but I don't even remember it being painful...

michaela - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) They use a thin stick like a knitting needle that has a fine hook on the top of it, it doesn't hurt and it really speeds things up if progress has been slow, my hind waters went spontaneously but progress was really slow, so they broke my fore waters and i went from 4 to 7 in 15 minutes, it does increase the force of each contraction and you can feel a lot more pressure once they are broken. Hope this helps. xxx

blessedmom - 107 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) It doesn't hurt but it definetly speeds up labour. they use a small plastic hook to break the water. It takes a couple seconds and its painless. I had it done with all my deliveries.

jomama03 - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) It doesn't hurt when your water is broke but if the dr does it too early there will be more pressure from the baby. Some say it helps move birth faster but in the case of my sister it slowed the contractions and she was in more pain so she tensed up and wouldn't dialate. Its better to let your water break naturally.

julie80 - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) when my dr broke my water i felt nothing. i had already been having contraction for 24hrs and was ready to have the baby. so i would have to say no it doesnt hurt. But i guess everyone could be different. And they break it by inserting a plastic stick with a little hook looking end. I know sounds bad but really i felt nothing at all

JennSever - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) it depends on how rough the dr is - having contractions w/ a cushion was much easier to bare than when the water was gone. but it does speed things up. if want a faster labor then have your bag broken, but if you and the baby are doing fine, then wait and see if your bag ruptures on its own.

mommy to boys - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) with mine it didn't hurt to have my water broken and I delivered with in 4 hours after the water was broke with 2 of my children, the other was c-section Good luck.

leahs - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) With my first child it was uncomfortable because I was in full blown labor at the time,my 3rd child they broke my water to induce me and it was no problem just a little pressure and a gush. I delivered my baby within four hours after it was done :)

christen - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) WHEN I HAD MY WATER BROKE BY THE DOCTOR I HAD ALREADY HAD MY EPIDURAL....IT DIDNT HURT ME...JUST FELT A LITTLE PRESSURE THATS ALL

2xmom - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I had my water broke on my 2nd pregnancy, it did not hurt at all, it actually relieved some pressure. They do it by inserting a long skinny instrument, with a small hook on the end. It was very fast, instantly effective! It was the least of my worries during the birth experience!

mattie4 - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) the first time i had my water broken it hurt, but it wasnt done with the hook, but rather when they were inserting a monitor that goes on the baby's scalp, which is usually used when the baby is having decelerated heartbeats (decels). That hurt. Now the second time i had it done, it was done with the tool, like explained already, it looks like a crochet hook. Honestly, that one didnt hurt. With both tons of fluid came gushing out. The pain only lasted as long as the procedure and stopped after it was done :) i hope this helps

Laura Ward - 107 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) When your doctor breaks your water it is called an amniotomy. They will generally use a tool that looks like a crochet hook or a smaller device that goes over the doctors finger with a small hook on it. I had my water broken with both of mine. My first, it did not hurt at all. I did not know he had done it until I felt wet! But, with my second, it was uncomfortable. Not the actual prick to break the water, but he was tugging (it seemed) at the sac because there was so much fluid. Not painful, just uncomfortable pressure. Check out the section on this site about rupturing membranes. There you will find more information. Fortnately it is fast. Just try to relax during the quick procedure!!
