So what exactly is nesting? Is it the act of obsessive housecleaning or is it where you shop for a bunch of baby stuff and obsess over the nursery?

It is a huge burst of energy and the urge to clean everything in site! It would include everything that you listed, b/c you will just want everything done and you will want it done NOW...lol! It actually feels great after being so tired.

Actually it's a mixture of both! It's getting everything ready for your baby to come home. Everything from getting everything he/she will need such as clothes, crib, etc. It is also about preparing your house, cleaning it from top to bottom, having absolutely everything ready to the point where all you have left to do is bring your new baby home. :)

I was freakin' crazy with nesting. my h would come home every day to a newly rearranged rooms. i was so crazy, that three weeks before my due date, I emptied my bedroom in it's entirety, and had the walls painted, and rearranged the closet in the hall. the next day, i did the second coat, put it all back and started in one of the kids rooms, bc I knew it was going to be the baby's room. I did the second coat the third day, and started in on the other kids room. the fourth day was the second coat, and replacing the furniture. the I started on the kitchen. In the end of the week, I had the whole upstairs finished. the next week I worked on the basement, and my bedroom closet. I had the house spotless before the baby came last time. I wish I had the energy to to do it this time. I washed all the laundry, got baby stuff washed and in the closet, washed out the baby bath tub, washed the bottles. For two weeks prior to having the baby, any meal I made, I made an extra batch of it. I froze the extra batch bc I heard that it was too time consuming and tiring to try to do it all and have a new baby. All I had to do was take it out of the freezer and place it in the oven, and supper was ready. (that was the best idea I ever had, by the way. I DEFINATELY recommend it to all.) you name it and it was done. I was so bored when I got back home from the hospital bc the baby was sleeping and there was NOTHING left to do. I sat and watched tv, and had a snack. boring!!

I am 25 weeks, and nesting already. Nesting for me is getting weird things organized that I do not normally worry about. Like I just spent like 5 hours cleaning, rearranging and organizing my closet. Also, I am obssessing about the laundry. Obviously with a family of 5 right now, laundry is always a priority, but I am very anal about it right now. I also just sorted through all the baby stuff from what my almost 2 year used and am keeping some and getting rid of some. I am a prime example of nesting.

Nesting occurs when you feel the constant need to get everything ready for the baby to arrive. Washing clothes, bottles, organizing things, rearranging furniture and rooms, etc. For some women, nesting is a strong sensation and they become obsessive about it. For others, it is very minimal and the urge to clean/organize does not see, to affect them as much.

Like others said... the obsessive need to make the home ready for baby, whatever that means to you. For me, it means not only the sudden need to re-organize every drawer in the house, but getting the room in perfect order.

It is when we anixously start getting ready for the baby, weither that be making sure you have everything for the baby and the nursery is ready to making sure the house is clean enough to bring a new born baby into it. I think it is a good sign. good luck to you

Either or both. It's all about preparations and some worrying thoughts. It's like a switch gets turned on and you're on auto pilot. I felt some kicking in the other night and had to take a pause and say to myself, what's the rush??

The short answer: YES. I've felt it a couple of times and it's like an obsession. The floor is all of a sudden absolutely unacceptable, how could I have ever lived with it like this, a new wood floor needs to be installed immediately, pull the investments and call a contractor. Luckily, I was talked down to just a real good cleaning of it and a couple of layers of wax. Thank GOD I don't have the energy to follow through on some of this stuff right now!

Neting is basically supposed to be when you get the urge to tidy up and get things sorted before the baby came but i didnt get that instinct at all

my nesting consisted of gardening, stripping wallpaper and getting as many odd jobs around the house done. In fact i was stripping wallpaper 1 hour before my waters broke!! It's your body getting everything ready for the iminent arrival. Good luck. xx

I believe it's a little bit of both. It's just your body naturally becoming ready for baby!

I haven't experienced it yet but from what I understand "nesting" occurs when you NEED to get things done and ready for baby. This can included cleaning, shopping and getting the nursery ready. Whatever it is that you feel isn't ready yet.

i always understood it for, feeling the need to get things "ready" and "in order". It is said that just before time of labor that you get a burst of energy, and that is when alot of moms do the "i need to get things done" mode.
