I read on this website that if the heartrate is higher than 140 then it will be a girl. I had my ultra sound and the heartbeat was 180. Does this mean its a girl? Does anyone have a boy with a high heartbeat?

This is an old wives tale, a fun of to do, but old wives tale none the less. Also, it depends on how far along you are, b/c in the early months all babies heart rates are really high.

The heart rate thing is an old wives tale and you can't determine sex by it. All my boys were 150-160 heartrates.

The tech who done our ultrasound explained it this way. You can't go off of the heartbeat to determine the sex because just as anyone else if you are more active your heartbeat rises, if you are at a relaxed state then you will have a lower heartbeat. So if your baby is moving a lot while they are doing your ultrasound then the heartbeat will be higher. Our baby boy got up to 183 at one time. He was a mover and a kicker. So you will just have to wait and find out by the ultrasound or when he or she makes their entry into this world!

I really don't think you should believe this old wives tale. My first had a heart rate of high 130's and low 140's, and that was a girl, my second had a heart rate of high 130's and was a boy.. the one I am prego with now is high 120's... so you just never know! Godd luck though and congradulations

no, this simply just isn't true. even if a boy DID have a slower heartbeat that a girl, a sleeping girl will have a lower rate that an exercising boy, and since you cant be watching your baby all the time to see what they have just been doing, it really isn't a reliable way to tell. also in early pregnancy, the heart rate is MUCH higher, and gradually slows during pregnancy. my baby is a boy, and most of the times i have heard his heart beat, is has been around 120, BUT last time i went to my OBGYN, his rate was 165, and i hadn't been feeling him move overly much just before, so it goes to show, you just cant rely on it

I'm having a lil boy and at first his heartbeat was high...like almost 170 but now its 153. I heard the heart rate changes over time and depends on certain things like you're activity level. So...lol...I'm sorry to say I wouldn't go by this myth! Good Luck with everything!

My dr told me that in his experience the heart rate old wives tale usually is right...BUT only when its considering the babies heart in the later parts of pregnancy. It could be that that is just how things have worked out..I mean there is no actual proof of this-if there was it wouldn't be an old wives tale :)

This is just an old wives tale! I am pregnant with boy #3 this time and his early heart rates were in the 170's. (I thought it was going to be a girl because it was so high but nope, another boy!)

My first 3 girls all ran 160's & 170's. this little girl I am pregnant for now has been running 140's & 150's. So, I wouldn't believe it.

Well that is a old wives tale!!
However here is a great thing to know:
My daughter's heartbeat was 170
My son's heartbeat is at 164
So maybe it is true, try this other fun sites:

Not true. But it this way, the myths are all right half of the time... they are just myths! You will know when you can see the parts there or lack of parts there!

hi darlen - well, i always thought in the back of my mind that the heartbeat determined the gender - i have 1 girl and 2 boys..all their heart rates were gender appropriate..ie daughter stayed over 150 and boys stayed on or around 140's this baby girl hovers right around 155. HOWEVER, every baby is so different..don't bet the ranch on your babies heartbeat. also, when the baby is younger gestationally the heart rate tends to be higher..

You found that under old wives tales for predicting the baby's sex. Most old wives tales are just that and are only for fun. I would not count on it and would wait for a confirmation from the ultrasound (which still is not always right!!)

My babe's heart rate was 155 and its so a boy, and a nurse told me the higher it is its a girl but I guess I proved her wrong. I wouldn't go by the hear rate, its wishful thinking just wait until you get a ultrasound to be sure.

I was hoping that wive's tale was true- but it turned out to be more entertaining in the guessing game than anything else. just like the other gender predictors...there's a 50/50 chance of being correct! :)

Early on in the pregnancy, my baby boy started out at 182. Their heart rates start out pretty high and slow down as they grow (with the exception of very early weeks, where I think the heart rate is low). My boy started at 182, then into 170s, then 160s, etc. I am 20 weeks now and his heart rate is 140.

When we went in at 11 weeks to get our scan, the heartbeat was at 170, so we thought for sure we were having a girl. Nope... just had another scan, and he's a boy! (I'm at 14 weeks now) Granted, his heart rate is slower now, about 135, but I don't know if that has to do with him growing or what.

I don't think it is a reliable indicator. I have heard many people, even docs, say that but it's not always accurate. My son was over 140 quite a few times. His goes back and forth.
