I am beind induced Sunday and will be 3 days over due. Doc says my cervix is thin, but no dilation. I`m wondering how many of you have successfully been induced with no dilation, and how many have had c-sections. I really do not want a c-section, but at the same time, I`ve been having horrible back cramps for over 2 weeks. I appreciate your comments.

I don't think there should be any problems, b/c your cervix is already changing some. I just suggest you read all that you can, so you know what to expect.

Induction: If you are living in the United states and your doctor wants to induce you, please be aware of the dangers of CYTOTEC. It is a pill that is inserted into your vagina and disolves at your cervix, causing strong contractions to occur. This is a drug that has NOT been approved for use by the FDA for inductions and was designed for use with the treatment of stomach ulcers. Doctors seem to like to use it in the states as it is successful to start labour, however it is so potent a drug that the contractions it causes can rupture the uterus or force amniotic fluid into a womans blood stream. While many women have had successful inductions with its use, it is also quite dangerous, harmful, even fatal in some cases. Please be aware that this drug exists in the US. I have not heard of its use in Canada. ALso be aware to question drugs that your doctor plans to give you. You have a choice and can refuse treatment in exchange for one that is safer for you and your baby.
My friend was induced with pitocin. She only dilated a little and was not dilated to begin with. She ended up with a c-section as the babies face was stuck against her pelvis. If you won't go into labour naturally, then there is usually a good reason why the baby doesn't want to come out.

Any reason why your doctor won't let you go longer and try to go naturally? I was 6 days late and went into labour on my own. My baby was breech and i had a c-section after labouring to 10cm, but i went into labour. 3 days late isn't very long. Usually they should let you go 2 weeks unless they are worried about something now... or your doctor has a vacation coming up

It is a little strange that you aren't dialated at all being 3 days overdue. Hopefully the induction will kick start the dialation but if it doesn't rest assured that if you do have to have a c-section it is the best thing for your baby if your body won't cooperate.

I've been induced with my 1st baby, the reason was because he was a little too heavy for my body. So after inducing me for about 4 hours and a half, And me getting contractions so bad. They checked to see how far dilated I was the doctor said I was only 1cm open. I got really upset becuase of the pain I been going threw just for that. So the doctor told me that I need a c-section, it was not has bad at all, but I do wish I could have had the baby natural, becuase now I always have to have a c-section.

I say this: I was honestly blessed to have a C-Section!!
However you could just try natural induction, like sex, walking, or any thing!! Here is a site that offers help:

I hope this link can help!! Your back is the first sign of labor!! God Bless!!

i have been induced at not even at 1 cm. I was induced due to preeclampsia so it was before my body was really ready. It took 2 days, but i did end up having a natural delivery and a very healthy baby boy :). good luck and i am sure you will do great :).

I was with my son- but my waters ruptured prematurely that's why the induction. I had an epidural after 14 hours of the pitocin- I needed some rest. It didn't slow down or hinder any progress- but everyone's body reacts differently. I wouldn't stress about the induction- they start you off with minimal medication to set a gradual pace- they don't "turn on the faucet" full blast if that's what you're worried about. Just like your menstral cramps start light and get stronger (or maybe you're blessed and don't get crampy) - that's what will happen with an induction. short and mild, then over time increasing in length and strength.:)

My advise is get the Epidural. I was induced and only 2 cm, and when I got the Epidural, my cervic dialated SO quickly due to being so relaxed. Read my birth story on my page and goodluck!!!

Is your doctor going to be Cervadil on your cervix the night before? Many doctors will give you this to help soften and dilate the cervix for an induction. You will probably be started on pitocin, which will make you contract. The contractions will stimulate your cervix to dilate. Many women are induced when they have slow progressing labors or are not dialted at all. BEst wishes!!

my water broke spontaneously w/ my first & she was only 31 wks.i had zero dilation or softening of cervix. but since there was no water left they had to double dose me on pitocin..that was painful, however, they let me have an epi at only 2 cent and about 6 hrs later i was fully dilated and out she came. try to tough it out as long as you can before your epi because once you get the drug you can't walk around and the med tend to slow labor down. but there is no reason to suffer greatly..good luck and early congrats

I was induced with my 2nd child at one day overdue. The med's they give you cause dilation, so you should dilate just fine. Some women don't dilate whether natural or induced and they have to have a c-section. My first baby was not induced and I was overdue. I had been 4 cm for 4 weeks. She was so large that I almost had to have a c-section. I plan to be induced again if this baby is not here by it's due date.

I was induced at 2cm and 80% effaced. It went wonderful. I got the drip at 8:30a.m and an epi at 11:45 and had my daughter at 12:15p.m. So 4hrs of labor was wonderful. Good luck.

I was induced after progress stopped at 3cm, my waters had broken 33 hours previously. I gave birth naturally 10 hours later, she was back to back and facing up instead of down so i had to go to 13cms instead of the usual 10!!!!!

My sister was induced with no dilation, and she went to 6cm, but never any further than that. She ended up getting a C-section after being in labor forever!

I was induced and was dilated 1cm but my doctor said that was more than likely from having kids before. It never goes back to completely normal. I had no trouble. Usually the medication they give you to induce you causes contractions which cause the cervix to dilate and efface. So you should be fine.
