I think it's good only in extreme situations hwere it's critical to the health of the mom and baby... otherwise I'd advise against it. I was induced, and while it wasn't the most tragic thing, I wish it would've been more natural.

It sounds like your body is already preparing for labor, which is a requirement for inducing, so if you and your doctor feel comfortable w/ it, then I say go for it. It is a good idea to read up on it first, just so you know what to expect!

It's ok to be induced, I was with my last 2 children, my middle child at 5 days before his due date and my last baby 3 days before his due date, I went on my own, but 3 days overdue with my oldest child

the measured "WEIGHT" of the baby is not very accurate and often wrong. They might tell you that your baby is a certain weight and be off by a pound or more. I believe inductions are wrong if they are being done for the wrong reason-like you are uncomfortable (yes, that's normal for the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and the first few weeks after baby is born is MUCH harder on you) and your doctor is trying to go to his vacation on time. NOt very good reasons. IF you need it and its in the best interest for you from a medical standpoint- you are more than 2 weeks overdue, then for sure. Be aware what is safe for you. The medications that create inductions often can be dangerous. They can cause contractions that are very strong and your labour is often more painful. This can lead to you needing an epidural and this intervention can also lead to a c/s. I agree with the comment that you can't be pregnant with a child you can't give birth to. WOMEN are phenomenal and our vagina's are designed to stretch to accomidate your child. YOU need to stay positive and believe that you can do it. If you have doubts, then you will not have a good time in labour. I found labour to be amazing and powerful. It made me feel like i could do anything!! (READ INA MAY's GUIDE TO CHILDBIRTH for more helpful and positive birthing stories). If you are going to get an Induction: If you are living in the United states and your doctor wants to induce you, please be aware of the dangers of CYTOTEC. It is a pill that is inserted into your vagina and disolves at your cervix, causing strong contractions to occur. This is a drug that has NOT been approved for use by the FDA for inductions and was designed for use with the treatment of stomach ulcers. Doctors seem to like to use it in the states as it is successful to start labour, however it is so potent a drug that the contractions it causes can rupture the uterus or force amniotic fluid into a womans blood stream. While many women have had successful inductions with its use, it is also quite dangerous, harmful, even fatal in some cases. Please be aware that this drug exists in the US. I have not heard of its use in Canada. ALso be aware to question drugs that your doctor plans to give you. You have a choice and can refuse treatment in exchange for one that is safer for you and your baby.

my doctor took pity on me and induced me on my due date. My babies tend to come fast and I live a bit a way from hospital. Everyones situation is different.

i think its wrong being induced, especially if you want a natural delivery. BUT if you must be induced for a specific reason, i'd say go for it. i never believed in being induced, and i was only b/c my baby's heart rate decreased. after my water popped, the docs told me that baby had took a dump inside of me which could lead to infection. so it was a good thing i was induced. in your case, i don't think its wrong to be induced since you are measuring at 41 weeks. but i'll tell you something, God doesn't give us something we won't be able to give birth to. my baby weighed 8lbs 5oz and i am 5'0ft and petite. I wouldn't worry too much, i know you'll be fine! Good luck!

If you want to talk to your Dr I dont think that is a problem, he would probably llok forward to doing it more in 39weeks though. Although you are concidered full term your baby just might not be ready. My daughter was 7lbs 12oz when she was born and my second one they told me was closer to 10lbs, so they broke my water (induced me) at 38 1/2 weeks. I was also 100% effeced and 4cm for nearly two weeks. Once they broke my water I had my son within 53mins.. no time for meds.. great experience. Either way its up to your Dr so just give it a shot and see what he thinks, he'll know whats best though. Good luck and take care

If you are measuring at 41 weeks and baby is over 7 lbs I don't see anything wrong with that. Especially if you had a small frame before getting pregnant, it might be better for you. I say ask about it...

I would totally ask about being induced. It isn't wrong, to have a little medical help in the process. Also, u/s is not always accurate when it comes to weight. it can be off by alb either way. My 2nd one, the u/s said 4lb 4oz, and she was 5lb 5oz the next day when they induced me. Good luck!

I would like for my doctors to get my son out already! I am so tired of my heart problems and The new E-Coli infection in my bladder! SO how can inducing labor be wrong? If you are 38 weeks then you are full term!!
Just go for it and know that you are going to be in for a bunch of stronger contractions, more pain and get your epie sooner if you are planing on one!!
Good Luck and God Bless!! Better to have a chance to deliver a baby vaginal then a C-section!!

if it is your first, the chances are unless there is a good reason they wont induce. You can talk to him/her and see what they say, until then you can always try inducing naturally...sex is great for it. Walking, and a couple of other things if you do a guick search online i am sure you will find lots of natural ways. Dont worry about the fact that you are smaller, my sister weighs in at a wopping 98 lbs and had a 10 lb baby naturally with no epidural or anything. She is TINY. she had no troubles. Your body is meant for it and well 7 lbs is just right :) good luck :)

I was induced at 41 weeks and a day due to labor not starting on its own. I think it is perfectly fine if your induced after 38 weeks (this making sure that the baby is ready to come out with no doubt). Goodluck!

With my first, I always measured big and I was told that he was going to be a large baby and they would induce me if I had not had him by 40 weeks. I had preterm labor with him and he came at 37.5 weeks, but was 6 lb 6 oz. Not a big baby. With my second, I was told he was going to be small and he was 9 lb 1 oz at birth...not a small baby! Because you are already dilated to 2 cm, I would wait it out until atleast 40 weeks before mentioning it. I know it is hard towards the end and we all get ancy, but sometimes the due date is off. The baby may not be ready to come out yet. Ask your doctor to strip your membranes if you really want to get things moving. Usually, stripping the membranes will only work if you are close to being in labor anyways. Induction is not fun. I had pitocin with both of them and it makes your contractions so strong. Hang in there and good luck!

I don't see anything wrong with being induced. Just talk to your doctor about your concerns and he/she should be glad to help you make the right decision for you and your baby.

well, with my prior preg. i was so miserable and about 3 wks early. dr decided that the baby was fine, so he stripped my membranes, i went home and sat in the bathtub to ease the discomfort. i was in the tub for quite sometime before calling hubby to let him know that we should go to the hosp. when i got there i was dilated to 6! being induced can be harder on your body, but the discomfort of having my baby inside far outweighed my fears of induction. if given the option and my dr was sympathetic i would do it again.

being induced could actually giver you harder or more painful contractions than what your body would do and still have the same effectiveness. Talk it over with your Dr. I know you're probably so done being pregnant and you're eager to wrap it up but if the induction can be avoided, I would suggest doing that. I was induced, but it wasn't by choice I had PROM and it was done to reduce chances of infection. I just remember before I got my epidural the contractions I was having seemed to be way over the top for me. I know everyone has a different threshold for pain, and I am in no way trying to psych you out of getting induced- was just recollecting on my experience. Hope all goes good for you! :)

I do not think it is wrong to be induced, although my personal preference is to wait until the day after the due date. If you are worried about not being able to deliver a larger baby, then you need to talk to your doctor. Your doctor will be able to help you make the best decision. From experience I can tell you that it is much harder to deliver a very overdue 9lbs 5oz than it is to deliver an induced (one day late) 7lbs 11 oz.

if you want the chance of going natural i would wait and see what happens....just depends if you are effaced all of the way and 2 cm dialated inducing would be a good idea
