My breastfed babies had a poopie diaper everytime they were changed. Their stools didn't begin to firm up until after I introduced solids to them. It is b/c breastmilk is easier for your baby to digest than formula. Also, as your baby gets older, you may notice that your baby goes days, if not a week, w/out having a bowel movement, all of my breastfed babies did this. My ped. told me as long as they did not act like their tummies were hurting then this is what was normal for them. As they got even older, they started having more regular bowel movements.

My son had a poopy diapy every change- turned out it was because of the Colace I was taking. It was recommended at the childbirth and breast feeding classes- but probably not for as long as I took it. Rookie mistake.

Your baby will continue to poop with almost every diaper change for several weeks. When my son was about 31/2 months, the pooping slowed down to once a day, now its every 2 days or so. Their digestive systems are not mature to absorb everything you are giving them. So unless the stool is purely water- then its normal. It should look like mustard or slightly green with bits in it. Their pooping slows down when they start absorbing more from the breastmilk. This doesn't mean that they aren't getting nutrients from you either- as long as there is wet diapers and baby is inceasing weight,k then your breastfeeding is going well! Good luck!

Completely normal for breast fed babies to poop that many times in one day. Her body will eventually regulate itself and she won't go nearly as much. Just keep telling yourself that 8-9 poops means she's nice and healthy!!!

she sounds right on target..i realize it get redundant to continually change diapers, but be mindful that her body has to learn how to regulate itself. she sounds just fine

The doctors at Children's Hospital in Omaha told us that our newborn (who is breastfed as well) should have 8 to 9 dirty diapers and 110 to 12 wet diapers a day. So all in all you should only have one or two just wet diapers a day (if your lucky they will be just wet:) ). So it sounds like your baby is right on track!

I've been breastfeeding for about 9 weeks now, my baby only has 1 poo every week. We wait paitently for hour "surprise"! Every baby is different. Some babies poop after every feed and some(like mine) have a surprise once a week. You can never over feed a baby on the breast.

is it GOLDEN in colour??? when I breastfed my daughter she seemed to have pooped nearly after everyfeeding and it was like "golden poo" we called it and YES it was like diarrhea. Even babies that are bottle fed have lose stools until they start eating solids so it ok and perfectly normal! CONGRATS and have fun!! they grow up WAY too fast!

If it has mucus or blood in it I would call the doctor. Everyone is supposed to have a BM after every meal so if your baby is eating every couple hours its normal, but if its constant all day call the doc because you don't want him/her to get dehydrated.

i also dont think ur baby is getting "too much". ur baby will know when its too much. breastfed babies usually poo after every feed early on, so that could be alot of poops. and it does look like diarrhea sometimes, but its most likely not. its very soft and could be watery. if u want u could ask ur doctor to b sure, but i think its perfectly fine.

Normal poo for a breast fed baby is very mushy. Diarrhea for your sweety will be watery. It is normal for baby to have many poos a day. Eventually she will poo less. I disagree with those saying she may be getting too much breastmilk. Breastfed babies generally stop drinking when they are full, and you can definately tell the difference between drinking and using mommy for a pacifier.

I have heard on average it is about 7 diapers a day. If it seems like diarrhea though you might want to ask the doctor about it, she might be getting "too much".

This is perfectly normal, the money you save on not buying formula you spend on nappies. At the start my daughter was going through at least 12 nappies a day!

idk too much but i read that it could be that the baby may be getting 2 much breastmilk.sometimes it hard to tell when the baby isnt hungry anymore and its possible for excess milk to cause diahrrhea and extra dirty diapers
