It is very normal. Keep it dry, and continue only sponge baths until it is completely dried up. Continue to clean it w/ each diaper change. If it starts turning red around it or having an odor or is warm to the touch, call your ped.

Its normal! Don't worry! keep it dry by wiping at the ooze with a DRY cloth at each diaper change. If you bathe her, use soap and water to gently wash the ooze away. Otherwise, keep diaper and clothing off the umbilical area. it should dry out in a couple of days.

I believe you just need to continue with the alcohol. Squeeze the cotton ball over the cord area letting the alcohol soak in. Use it every diaper change. Make sure you do not give your baby a bath until it is dried up. Also, if it dosn't look like it is drying up within a week I would consult your physician it may be infected.

the docs said that the use of alcohol wasn't needed anymore. they said that the umbilical cord falls off quicker without the use of alcohol, so i never used anything! is it bad?

Hi were you cleaning it several times a day before it fell off? I always used a q-tip dipped in alcohol with my kids and never had a problem.

My little girls cord was a bit weepy for a few days after the cord fell off, i just kept it clean with cotton wool/q-tips and boiled water, then pat dry with clean towel. Also i made sure that the top of her nappy didn't rub it or her clothing. If it hasn't healed up in the next few days i would mention it to your dr.

I used surgical spirits(alcohol)! It dried up in less than a week. You must keep it clean and dry to avoid infections. Good luck

My daughters fell off within 5 days and did the same thing! My dr had given me a cream for her diaper rash.. which was he same thing as canestine (sp?) for yeast infection. He told me to use a q-tip to clean the goo and then apply a bit of alcohol to the qtip and wipe it again. Then I would add some diaper rash cream on it, as long as you keep the area clean it will be fine. My daughters after awhile started to get real red and raw looking and so he perscribed me more of the cream to put on it twice a day. Good Luck and don't worry too much.

I was told to keep rubbing alcohol on it to dry it out, if it starts stinking and oozing green or yellow it could be infected.

that happened with mine too, try to keep it dry, and let your doctor know at the next dr visit, but if it starts to smell bad or looks pussy call the dr and let them know.

my daughters fell off after 3 days, which was really fast. it was yellow inside afterwards and was also oozing stuff and sometimes even bled a bit. i thought she had an infection, but the doc said it was fine. it cleared up on its own after a week or so and its completely fine now.

its normal unless it turns green and starts to really have an odor. just put some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and put some alcohol on the area- it'll help dry it up. and it doesnt hurt the baby at all- it's just a little cold :o)
