I feel that their clothing, plus the swaddling blanket and a little cap on their head is enough to keep them warm. If you still feel like your baby is cold, then adding another blanket to the top is fine as well. Also, some babies don't like being swaddled, so a blanket sleeper is another option for you.

both my children were born in the winter so i would swaddle them and then just place a nice blanket on them. Check the babies head to see if their skin is cold... over heating a baby is said to be another leading cause of SIDS.... still not 100% but you will know. Swaddled babies sleep great as well! GOOD LUCK!

the nurses told us that you should put them in what you are wearing for that environment plus one layer. We usally had our son in a onesie or pjs and a 'swaddle me'- which is a blanket with velcro that is designed for swaddling and they can't kick out of! I recommend this to anyone who's baby likes to be swaddled.

u shouldnt need the extra blanket. when i swaddled my daughter she was usually in a onesie. do u have those swaddling blankets where u just slip the baby in and pull the other side over with velcro? my friend got them for me and they are awesome cuz the baby cant wiggle the blanket undone.

if you are hot most likely the baby is hot so if you are feeling uncomfortable the baby is too

They say you shouldn't cover them with blankets at all, other than swaddling them tightly. The sleeper should keep them nice and warm, especially the ones with the mittens to close over their hands. Swaddling them is basically to make them feel as if they are still in the womb, not necessarily to keep them warm. More of a comfort thing for them. The sleepers keep them quite warm. Hope this helps :-).

I never needed an extra blanket when my son was swaddled. As long as the room you are in is at a decent temp., around 72*F, an extra blanket shouldn't be necessary. Any sleeper outfit should be just fine to wear. I preferred the one with the elastic bottom, made it easy to change a diaper when your half asleep....no needing to fumble with snaps and buttons!

i like the advice of dress your baby how you would dress yourself. but do remember that babies lose a lot of heat through their heads.. losing heat means losing calories so watch that. and babies love to be swaddled..

I dont think you need to put a blanket on along with swaddling they say a comfortable temperature for a babys room is 70 degrees

Hi it all depends on the temperature, I believe the saying is dress your baby 1 layer warmer than you would dress yourself if I remember correctly.

They say to keep the baby at room temp. if you are too hot chances are the baby probably is too. I would always let my baby sleep in a button up sleep suit witht he feeties in them and onesies when he got older. If you swaddle it you shouldn't need an extra blanket only if your going to be outside and its cold, you don't want the baby to get too warm or too cold.

I had my daughter in a sleep suit and swaddled in one large blanket folded in half. As to whether you put more blankets on top it all depends on the temperature of the room they are in. ideally your room should be between 16-20'C and your baby should only need 2-3 blankets at this temp therefore if you have swaddled then in a blanket halved then that counts as 2 so another one should be fine. If your room is hotter then remove a blanket, if colder add another layer.
