I just noticed my babies umbilical cord is bleeding underneath, I didn`t think they were supposed to bleed, so I am worried. It is not dripping blood, but I can see the blood when I move the umbilical cord, What should I do?

totallykatalicious - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes it does that, that means he is about to lose the cord!! :)

brandi j. - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Sounds like your baby is about to lose his/her cord!!! All 4 of my babies did the same thing. As long as the area around it is not red and looking infected then it is normal!

*Precious.Moments* - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i went thru that with my daughter.. it totally freaked me out.. i called her doctor and he said it was normal to see some bloody goop.. as long as it was not pussy green or foul smelling it was okay.. i just wouldnt move it around too much.. let it heal.. my daughters fell off when i was nursing her.. and had a lil orangy goop left.. it healed within a few days..

Mommyof2Boys - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) When the umbilical cord is cut, it leaves a stump, which then dries, heals, and usually falls off within 1 - 3 weeks. While the cord is healing, keep it as clean and as dry as possible. In order to keep the cord dry, sponge bathe your baby rather than submersing him in a tub of water.Watch the umbilical cord for infection. This does not occur often, but can spread quickly if it does occur. Signs of infection are: Foul-smelling, yellow drainage from the cord Redness and tenderness of the skin around the cord Another uncommon problem is active bleeding. This usually occurs when the cord is pulled off too soon. Allow the cord to fall off naturally, even if it is only hanging on by a thread. In active bleeding, every time you wipe away a drop of blood, another drop appears. If the cord does actively bleed, call your baby’s doctor immediately.

jah-baby - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think u have to keep it very dry but if it starts to have an odor i think thats when u should see a doctor

michaela - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) That's normal, sound like the cord is starting to separate. Just keep it clean and dry and try to keep it frrfom rubbing on top of nappy and clothing. If it does start to smell or ooze pus then let your dr know.

Carmione - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It happened with Devan's umbilical cord too-keep the area as dry as possible and avoid it during sponge baths. Antibacterial, fugera ointment is good to keep the skin supple so it would be more forgiving should it need to move slightly instead of resisting causing unnecessary separation.

Debra - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) normal. The midwife says it was because it was falling off a little too fast. DOn't be afraid to get under the dead tissue and clean it really well. You can use alcohol if it smells really bad- otherwise just keep it dry by wiping it with a clean DRY wash cloth during the day at diaper changes and when you bathe him, get right in there with soap and water with the washcloth.

mommy-of-3 - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes sometimes that can happen and it's perfectly normal. Just make sure you continue to clean it several times a day, I always used a q-tip dipped in alcohol for my kids and it worked great.

ttasha - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yh that happend to my son i just cleaned it and it soon got better so there nothing to worry about

christen - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) THATS NORMAL...JUST MAKE SURE YOUR PUTTING ALCOHOL ON IT I BELIEVE ITS THREE TIMES A DAY AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE SKIN....IT SHOULD DRY UP

LMO - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) That is perfectly normal. You know how when you have a scab and you rub up against something that it sometimes starts to bleed

jen - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) DO NOT put any water or salve on the cord!!! Light bleeding is perfectly normal, as long as it doesn't soak thru the clothes, a bit of blood is nothing to worry about. My sons cord kept getting bumped by his diaper which caused it to bleed a bit on the top of his diaper. Just dab on some rubbing alcohol with a q-tip each time you change the diaper. As the cord is getting ready to fall off, this may cause a bit of extra bleeding too. Unless the area around the cord is red, or if the cord itself is stinky which signals an infection, just let it do it's thing!

pepper1376 - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Completely normal. After it falls off, it could bleed for several days. Not dripping blood or anything but you'll notice what looks like dried blood for a few day in and on your babies new belly button.

kayla-love - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Its normal. It is healing and may have been caught on the babies nappy or clothes. You can fold the nappy down so it is kept off the umbilical cord.

bayBontheway - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes it is very common for them to bleed.. its just like having a scab, if you pick one or if something irritates it or rubs against it to hard they bleed.. the same will happen with the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord needs to remain dry, but if you are finding that it is getting caught on clothing.. you can cover it lightly with band aide...or something similar... just remember that it shouldn't be covered too much that air cannot get in and it becomes moist!

mattie4 - 103 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) cord care changes with each child i have, my first they told me to use alcohol on it to dry it out, and the next two i was told not to use it. i have to say that the alcohol worked best with my first child. I would say try not to move it too much but it is sounds like it is getting ready to fall off. A little blood is normal so dont worry to much. keep it dry, i always folded their diapers down so that they didnt rub and irritate the cord. I would give my ped office a call just in case, if anything to ease your worries. They may want to look at it or they will just tell you what to do over the phone.

JennSever - 103 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) gently apply some warm water and salve (neosporin) put a call into your pediatrician just to make sure they don't want to see the baby. chances are the cord got tugged on by the diaper or by clothes. try to put a loose bandage over it, but don't let moisture get trapped as the cord needs to dry out so it can fall off
