Not always, the same thing happened to my 4th child, they just didn't get enough blood the 1st time, so it came back abnormal. There was a different nurse do it the next time and she did it right, so the test was normal after that. Good luck to you! Congrats on your baby!

not necessarily sometime you get a abnormal test and then you go back and the baby is fine. if it is still abnormal they will have you change the babies diet

My son's pku was the same came back abnormal, it turned out they didn't take enough blood the first time so it showed an abnormal report. I was relieved when they told me this happens all the time.

I wouldn't worry yourself, a lot of tests they do on babies come out abnormal the first time around but when they do a follow up there is nothing wrong. Just try and think positive thoughts, I'm sure everything will be okay.

first you need to find out what the ranges are - depends on the lab being used..remember its just a screening doesn't mean there is anything wrong. symptoms of PKU are vomiting and seizures and extreme underweight..don't worry about the preliminary test. get the second one done and go from there. i think he will be just fine. its scarey all the things you have to go thru being a new mom, but i am sure your little one will be wonderful! hugs

I wouldn't worry hun until you get the results from the second test. Probably just some mess up with the test which is why they are re-doing it.
