i ha ve been told that eating pineapple is not good during pregnancy as it contracts the uterus and can lead to miscarriage. Is this true?

Melanie07 - 93 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You have to eat a whole lot of pineapple for it to anything. It has to be the fresh fruit. You would have to eat several whole pineapples at a sitting. I ate pineapple and drank the juice during all three pregnancies.

totallykatalicious - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I don't think so, I ate pineapples and drank the juice all the time when I was pregnant with my middle child.

mzmommy2b - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I ate small amounts of pineapple throughout my whole pregnancy and I did not go into labor at all! I actually had to be induced at 41 weeks!

brandi j. - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain which is thought to help to soften the cervix and so bring on labour. There is very little available research. Each pineapple contains only very small amounts of bromelain so you would need to eat as many as seven to have any effect. The most likely side-effect of eating large amounts of pineapple would be a severe case of the runs. There is some debate about the role played by bromelain on prostaglandins, which soften the cervix to prepare it for labour. Some studies actually suggest that bromelain inhibits prostaglandin activity while others think the opposite. Regardless of this, eating large quantities of pineapple is likely to stimulate the gut and bowel and, as with castor oil, could kick-start the uterus into action by that means. To try it, the pineapple must be fresh: bromelain is destroyed by the process of canning or juicing.

mattie4 - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) this is my 4th pregnancy and i hadn't heard this before...i guess the saying is true...you learn something new everyday :). I love pineapple and have been eating it in fruit salads about every 3 days, which has been one of my cravings. Im gonna have to look into this one. I am taking tributilin to control contractions right now, so maybe i should just nix the pineapple in my salads. hummm interesting i will definetly be talking to my dr about this at my next visit.

debi - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Well i hope this isnt true, its my craving. I eat a large tin a day in its own juice. But i have heard fresh pineapple is good to bring labour on (when your due that is) but never worked with my other pregnancies.

cloudie - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My doctor has never told me to stay away from it and I have never read anywhere about it so I would rule that this is an old wives tell.

Mommyof2Boys - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Thats the only thing that I have to have is pineapple I absoulutly love it, I've been eating it since day one and I'm 8mos pregnant.

LMO - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have never heard that one and i love pineapple and i never had a problem

nich-vegas-mommy2be - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Maybe it has something to do with later in pregnancy - I still eat it and nothing has happened to me! (20 wks)

mommy-of-3 - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If it is then I'm a walking miracle lol. I love pineapple, eating it, drinking the juice, and I think I've eaten it in some form or another almost everyday since I became pregnant and I haven't had any problems and I'm 25 weeks now.

michaela - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Its an old wives tale that i tried to bring on labour. It worked for me as i ate it all day friday and Saturday and my waters broke on the Saturday night. Eat it in moderation, I'd say. xx

beckytrcek - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i dont think its true, i know that eating fresh pineapple from about 36 weeks help ripen the cervix

JennSever - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) its an asian wives tale..but i have found that pineapple exacerbates heartburn..i think you will be fine eating it in minute quantities.
