does anyone else feel pain in their breast after hours of feeding? does that mean its time to feed again? what about mothers who work? how do you deal with the pain? engorgement is the correct term i am looking for... are our breast still getting engorged and painful? what about when we want to stop breastfeeding? how do we deal with the pain? and how long does it last for?

mommauv4 - 576 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You can pump off a little bit of milk to relieve the pressure and pain. Mom's that work often pump and store the milk. Most people stop feeding slowly by reducing the number of feedings so there is no pain because it is a process not a sudden stop. Breasts make milk by supply and demand when you decrease the demand they slow down.

Melanie07 - 577 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Warm compresses help. Only pump enough to relieve the pressure. If you empty your breast they will keep producing more. This is the time to stock up on frozen milk. It should even up soon. When you do decide to quit, you should do it slowly. Only stop one feeding every few days. This gives your body time to adjust with little or no pain. If you neeed to stop quickly, I heard wearing cabage leaves on your breast dries them up quickly. I didn't try it. I just gradually stopped.

slnkl - 579 days ago the 3 day after labor, i was engoreged! i took a hot shower, thinking it'll help me. totally wrong! i came out and felt even more pain!! =[ i tried the cabbage leaves, and it seems to help so far.

totallykatalicious - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If you don't want to breastfeed, then you just let it go .. NEVER take HOT showers or baths because that just makes it take longer for you to dry up .. I've heard that using cabbage leaves on your breasts helps... I never tried that though lol

wildberry - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) after a few weeks your milk should start to even out and engorgement should be less of a problem also you can take a nice worm shower and let the water run on your breasts it should help you to let down relive some pain you can also express just enough to feel better until your baby is ready to nurse aging and when i ween i wrap my breasts

slnkl - 585 days ago i hate waking up middle of the night when baby won't wake up to eat. i have to always pump b/c my breast hurt! i can only imagine what i'll go through when i'm going to stop! i wonder why no one ever mentions the painful breast 3 to 4 days after labor? i wasn't excpecting anything and then on the 3rd day, i slowly felt my breast get engorged! i thought it was just me, my hubby told me to go in to the hospital! haha... lol... i forced my hubby to run to the store and pick up a pump! it was a relief!

LMO - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) try pumping if you get engorged of take a hot shower. if the baby is hungry it will let you know

Baby3OnWay - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) SUCKS!!!! I KNOW! your baby will let you know when its time to feed but if you need to releave your breast try pumping, you might just have a great milk supply. as for working moms... they pump too!! When I stopped breastfeeding I wrapped my breasts REALLLY TIGHT (binding) and they hurt bad... so every morning and night I would put frozen cabbage on them and sit in the tub, they would leak... sometime squirt out HAHAHA but the pain lasts for 3 days TOPS when your stopping! Good Luck with it all!

brandi j. - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is most likely your milk letting down, and this is completley normal. My baby is 13 mos. old and I still get this on occasion. Once you are ready to wean, slowly start cutting out one feeding at a time, your body will stop making as much milk b/c your baby no longer is needing as much, eventually there will be very little left and you will not experience any engorgement when the baby is completely weaned. However, if you try to wean all at once, you will experience engorgement, and pumping a little milk out can help relieve this, as well as cabbage leaves in your bra. Sounds crazy, but you can find lots of info about it online.

captshelley - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The pain is your milk coming in if it feels like sharp needles inside your breasts. That will stop after about 6 weeks or so. I pump when I get engorged atleast enough to take the pain or hardness away. When you stop breastfeeding it could take 2 days or up to 2 weeks, depends on how much your producing when you stop. Wrap your boobs up tight when you stop breastfeeding so your boobs don't giggle or move as much when they are in engorged.

Mommyof2boys - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You can have shooting pains sometimes like you can feel the milk coming through and out the ducts. Take some tylenol or take cabbage leafs and put on them, I breastfed for 15mos its hard but well worth it, and the pain went away. If you are working just take a small pump and pump when you go to the restroom.

mommy-of-3 - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I know I tried breastfeeding only for a few days with my youngest because things just weren't working out (we had issues) and if I remember right it took about 4 or 5 days of agonizing pain to stop the milk. I remember sitting down with an ice pack on each breast lol.

mattie4 - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes a pump helps for those times that the baby just isnt nursing enough. I prefer the electric ones, they work the best for me. you can take tylenol and thats about it for the pain. Now if your breast gets red, hot, painful and is accompanied by a fever then thats an infection called mastitis and thats very very painful. Thing is the way that fixes it is what hurts it the most...nursing on the breast that is infected. I would look into going to a lactation specialist, they are really really helpful and encouraging. They may have some very good suggestions for you :) good luck.

babigirl82 - 585 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Well when you feel pain you should pump a little and then feed cause it is harder for the baby to feed when you are engorged. Working moms should pump and store and while you are at work you should still pump every couple hours. There is risk of getting infected when you do not pump enough i had it and that is more painful. If you are wanting to stop feeding i used cabbage leaves and ace bandages the tighter the bandage the better. My daughter the pain lasted a week or less and my son i got infected so i am not sure when the pain stopped. Good luck and just remember to pump too.
