I had my baby 1 week ago. I am still clotting and bleeding bright red. Does anyone know is this is normal, how long did you all bleed after delivery? and did you clot? I am afraid that there might be some placenta left inside. My doc said to wait 2 more days and if it doesnt stop then to come in. But i am totally freaked out that I might hemorrhage or something. Any comments or advice would be great. Thanks

I bled for 64 days my dr did not seem concerned but I wasn't happy about it. If the clotts are larger than a dime then you should get checked out could be bits left.

If you are passing big clots then there could still be some placenta. You should be fine. I bled for two months after my first was born. They ended up doing a D&C to remove the placenta fragments that were left.

I am 3 weeks and 2 days post partum. I have bright red bleeding on a off. Sometimes it is bright red, sometimes brown, sometimes yellowish brown. Not sure what is "normal" but I would guess it would depend on how active you are. Clotting however is not normal, and you should see your doctor as soon as possible. I know when I was in recovery, after day 1 they said for me to let them know if i had any clotting (which i didnt) but bleeding however is def. normal at 1 week pp

i bled for around 4 weeks. yes i also would pass some clots, you want to look out for large clots. If they are smaller clots thats fine and normal especially if you have been laying down. Anything over the size of a golf ball or if it is heavy enough to soak a pad in an hour you will want to seek medical attention. Also, if you have a fever or your discharge has a foul smell. Those are the things to worry about :) congrats on your new baby

it's very normal to bleed and clot at this point bleeding for up to six weeks is considered normal how much are you bleeding? are you soaking a heavy pad in an hour or less? you need to take it easy to help your bleeding slow i know it's hard to do but try it really should help the amount that you are bleeding

I clotted for probably 2-3 weeks, and then bled for 7.5 weeks. Don't worry, just the aftereffects of your sweet baby! No one tells you all of the gross stuff before, huh?!

calm down.. i remember being so worked up and freaking out too. If you had stitching or tearing it can add to the bleeding and clotting. I had this for about 3 weeks myself, and then it got lighter but all in all lasted nearly 6weeks with bleeding. I had stitches and an epidural (which makes your skin less stretchy when delivering and more likely to tear) With my second I went natural and no tearing and I only had bleeding for a week. Another thing I found too was that breast feeding causes your uterous to contract and therefore expels alot out for you too. You should be fine and like your Dr said if in a few days your still worried about it you can go in for reassurance or check up to see if there is anything wrong. Good Luck and hang in there! Enjoy your new bundle of joy as well and CONGRADULAIONS

That is very normal, I remember clotting and heavy bleeding for at least two weeks if not three then it began to taper off and gradually get lighter until it eventually stopped all together around 4 or 5 weeks.

My baby is 9 weeks old. I bled heavy and clotted for 3 weeks. or have a foul smell. I finally went to the doctor concerned and they put me on Metherigine to make my uterus contract more. I am breastfeeding so I do not know why my uterus did not go back to normal on its own.Maybe cause this is my third child. The doctor also said this was normal as long as it wasn't heavier than a period(saoking a pad every hour). Anyhow, if you are still bleeding heavy in a week or two I would call your doctor.

I, too, passed clots after childbirth. I was told, that it was a good sign that the clots were coming out and not staying in. I was also told that as long as my bleeding was not more than a period then everything was fine. My bleeding was bright red past the "textbook" time that it should have been turning pink, but once again was told that as long as the bleeding was less or equal to a period then I should not be concerned. You also have to think about the fact that a blood clot is merely the collection of blood, What you're seeing may be a whole night's collection, with sudden vertical position upon rising allowing gravity to cause it to fall out. No matter what though, you need to watch it, and if it increases or you keep passing blood clots, get to your doctor!
