I`m at 10 weeks and have hardly had any bad symptoms, but for the past 3 days, my heart feels like it`s pounding through my chest... to the point where I can feel my heartbeat and the blood rushing through my finger tips and feet. I also feel very fatigued and almost restless. Could this be from high blood pressure? Or just my body generating and having to deal with extra blood flow? And should I go to my doctor? I was thinking to test my blood pressure out at one of those machines in the pharmacy first before I panic.

That is completely normal. I had the same issues. The fatigue in my first trimester was absolutely crazy. I mean 7pm bedtime for me, and about 13hrs of sleep almost every day. I was too tired to do anything. And it just hit me out of no where. Also had the feeling of my heart bouncing out of my chest. It is just your body compensating and trying to get used to all that extra blood flow. If I recall correctly part of your weight gain, is about 3lbs in just extra blood flow, that's a lot for your body to accommodate. But rest assured you will be okay..and it will go away..your second trimester should be easier and more comfortable as you start to get used to the various changes in your body.

I've had the same feeling off and on, but my blood pressure is fine. It is probably a normal symptom you will feel sometimes. It could also be from anemia, rather than high blood pressure.

Dear Asutori,
I think that it is normal for you to be having these sensations because your blood will increase by up to 25% during pregnancy which makes your heart beat harder and somewhat faster.
Any activity that you do, will make your blood flow faster and harder through your system. If you are very concerned, you can check at a pharmacy until you are able to see your doctor next, but I think that if it is a real concern of yours, you should definitely speak with your health care professional.
Blood pressure that is consistently more than 140 / 90 mm Hg is considered high, but if you have diabetes, 130 / 80 mm Hg is high. Normal blood pressure is below 120 / 80 mm Hg.
Here are some tips to get your blood pressure in check:
1. Have your blood pressure checked regularly. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so have yours checked at least once every two years by a health care professional and during pregnancy your blood pressure will be checked at every appointment.
2. Lead a healthy lifestyle for you and your baby. Eat a balanced diet, be physically active and smoke-free, and reduce your salt and alcohol intake to help lower your blood pressure.
3. Achieve and maintain a healthy weight which you can also discuss with your doctor (what is healthy for my height and normal weight).
4. Make sure you set aside some time every day to relax. Stress can cause blood pressure to rise.
5. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned about anything. Ask about home blood pressure monitoring.
Well, I hope this was helpful!
Congratulations and best wishes for you and your baby :)
