What features should I look for when choosing a diaper bag? There is such a wide range! I don`t want to pay a ton for overkill features, but I don`t want to go cheap either and sacrifice really helpful features.

I prefer the ones that are also a backpack as I usually have my hands full. I have a Baby Sherpa which I definitely recommend.

You want one that is lined with plastic on part of it and kinda insulated. You also want a changing pad. Lots of pockets on the outside are nice. A nice wide strap is a good thing. You want a spacious main section. You also want a sturdy one.

It really depends on if you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding. If bottle feeding, then you will need plenty of room for extra clothes, blankets, diapers, wipes, bottles, and formula, burp clothes, etc. If you plan to use the diaper bag as your purse as well, then you will need pockets for your things. If you are breastfeeding, then you can go w/ a smaller bag, b/c it will eliminate bulk of the bottles and formula. Also, if you have other children, which I am assuming you do not, but if you did, then you would need a bag to fit the other child(ren)'s things as well. Find something that you feel comfortable carrying, b/c you will be carrying everywhere you go for a year or more! Also, if your hubby is going to be carrying it, you may want to ask his imput on it as well, b/c he may not be willing to carry something too girly! My hubby doesn't mind carrying whatever, but some do, so that is important too. Good luck to you, b/c there are soooo many cute bags on the market! Also, one more thing, I would not suggest spending an arm and a leg on a bag, but I don't suggest going really cheap either, b/c you have to find something that is going to last for a while.

It is also good to make sure that a diaper bag doesn't have too many inside pockets, sacrificing the main compartment space! I feel like my bag has so many slots and pockets inside, that I hardly have room for a big item like a blanket! Sigh..

I just recently purchased the Vera Bradley Baby Bag. They are less than $100 and totally worth it. Their comfortable to carry and have lots of room, with pockets for bottles on the outside. Also, they come with a nice changing pad. There are lots of patterns to choose from and the best part is they can be washed pretty easily. If you have a stroller they easily can be squished in to the under basket or hang from the stroller!

I believe that one with a couple of large pockets should be good. You don't want to overdue it since you will probably be carrying the same thing in it each time. . . Bottles, diapers, wipes, food, and maybe a change of clothes.

Man i went all out on one with many pockets and gagets it was crazy, only to lose everything in the pockets after wards. I have no started using one with two large pockets and a small pocket with holders for rash creams and diapers... and a small change holder. I bought an attatchment for the wipes which allows me to access them more easily as well, so I didn't have to carry the large bin or search for them in the bag. Don't think big, think manageable. Plus your going to end up getting a seperate bottle bag later on for daycare, sleepobers etc so the smaller and compact ones are better then large and full of pockets! Just my opinion though but i hope this helps. (P.S. I have two babies to take care of in Sept. so the two pockets will work great for seperating the stuff for two babies but its still compact and small!)

I have never cared much for diaper bags. They have too many pockets for me and are too bulky or babyish looking. I have always used a cute tote bag that had a couple pockets inside for my keys and cell and wallet. For baby, I would carry diapers, a changing pad, wipeys, change of clothes. I have always carried a separate insulated bag for bottles but they keep bottles cool up to 10 hours, so it is well worth having it separate for me.

Space (lots of items you will be trying to fit in there), accessability (your hands are going to be pretty full, do you want to mess with zippers/flaps/etc.), pockets on the outside, a changing pad (comes with a lot of bags), a little sack for soiled clothes, maybe an extra little sack for your own items since the diaper bag will now pretty much be your purse, and a comfortable strap for carrying it!

needs to have a changing mat, room for baby wipes, at least 4 nappies and 2 changes of clothes. also room for bottles and burp cloths. i just put my purse in the bag too and it attaches to my travel system. Outside pockets are handy too as you can put your car keys in them, pacifier and teething gel etc.

i actually used a backpack and i had recieved as a gift this really cool changing pad that would hold a couple of diapers, wipes, and would roll up and had this nifty strap that would hook onto a stroller. I put this in the backpack, which it fit nicely in it. On the outside of the backpack had the mesh bag areas for water bottles, instead of water bottles it worked great at holding bottles. Inside the backpack if i could also hold a little bag that was insulated that held a cold pack and i could store breastmilk there. I just never really liked the diaper bags, they were just too bulky for me and some of them i dindt like that they looked way to babyish. The backpack was really really convenient and i didnt have to worry about it slipping off my shoulder.

I like the little pockets on the outside that fit a water bottle or bottle for the baby. I like outside zipper pockets for papers or documents you will get when you go to the doctor. A pretty big inside is helpful because I carry..6 diapers, wipes, 3 sets of clothes, blanket, and burp towel and she's only 4 months. Later on I think I'll add a rattle or toy and snacks. So big is good. Also, sometimes I just put my purse in the diaper bag just to have one thing to carry.

I think the changing pad is very helpful for when you are out in public and they have the diaper table with no papers to lay down.

Basically your main needs are a bag with the side pockets for bottles, (the plastic changing insert that is a must have for when you're out and about and have to change in a hurry,) and just make sure it's large enough to hold all of the necessities like diapers, wipes, maybe a can of formula, extra clothes, etc.
